ABC Press Release:

SEASON PREMIERE

FAN FAVORITE JILLIAN HARRIS GETS A SECOND CHANCE AT LOVE,
AS THE FIFTH EDITION OF ABC'S ROMANCE REALITY SERIES
"THE BACHELORETTE" PREMIERES MONDAY, MAY 18, ON ABC
Thirty - Count 'em - 30 Fabulous Bachelors Will Compete for Jillian's Roses for the First Time Ever

This Season's Highlights Include Extraordinary Trips Across Canada, Spain and Hawaii,
a Private Concert by Grammy Award-Winner and  Four-Time CMA Female Vocalist of the Year
Martina McBride and a Pick-Up Game of Basketball with the Harlem Globetrotters

Jillian Harris, the intelligent, independent, passionate woman who fell just short of her goal -- hoping that Jason Mesnick could be her best friend, soul mate and future husband on the just completed hit season of "The Bachelor" -- will have her own opportunity to find true love, as the fifth edition of the female version of the ABC's popular romance reality series premieres MONDAY, MAY 18 (9:02-11:00 p.m., ET), on the ABC Television Network.

An instant fan favorite on the last edition of "The Bachelor," Jillian, 29, immediately charmed America with her irrepressible humor and emotional honesty. She currently resides in Vancouver, British Columbia and works as a restaurant interior designer, successfully supervising projects in both Canada and the U.S. Vivacious and energetic, She always lives life to the fullest, but she is ready to settle down with her soulmate and is confident that she can find the love of her life on "The Bachelorette." Jillian, who has enjoyed being part of a tight knit family, is an only child and is excited at the thought of starting her own family.

Editor's note: Beginning Monday, May 25, the program moves to its regular two-hour run time from 8:00-10:00 p.m., ET.

This season's premiere, "Episode 501," begins with 25 eligible men arriving from all over the country to try and win Jillian's heart, including an Olympic cyclist, a break dance instructor, a pizza entrepreneur, a commercial pilot and a wine maker, as well as a successful lawyer, general contractor, business developer and oil and gas consultant. Each is more handsome than the next with standout personalities. All the men saw Jillian on "The Bachelor" and can't wait to meet her.

The first man out of the limousine blows Jillian away with his good looks and quiet charm; one man literally sweeps her off her feet and yet another becomes quite tongue-tied in her presence. The party kicks into high gear as Jillian starts to look for the bachelor who will receive the night's only first impression rose. One tall, dark and handsome guy attempts to woo her with his Latin style, a country crooner charms Jillian with a song - and then two bachelors duke it out on the floor, battling in a dance-off!

But in a stunning, first-ever twist, five strikingly handsome late arrivals crash the party. Jillian will be the first person in the history of "The Bachelor" and "The Bachelorette" to have 30 suitors to select from. The original group of 25 men quietly seethe as the additional guests get their time with the Bachelorette. One bachelor reveals that he is secretly obsessed with Jillian's feet, while a wealthy businessman impresses her with his laid-back confidence. In the end, Jillian presents her "first impression" rose to the man who managed to stand out in the crowd of eligible contenders.
By the end of the evening, Jillian, having the time of her life and confident that her future husband is among this group of men, must eliminate ten of the 30 bachelors the first night, leaving 20 to compete for her affections and, in the end, her heart.

A list of bachelors will be released shortly.

Once again, trios of lucky bachelors get to live in the mansion with Jillian, while the rest of the men must live together in an unspectacular bunkhouse down the hill. And, during one of the episodes, the bachelors must vote for the man they'd most like to send home - much to one stunned and unhappy bachelor's dismay.

Jillian's hunt for Mr. Right will take place during some of the most romantic and adventurous dates ever with exciting surprises in store for her bachelors as they travel around the globe for intimate dates in California, Hawaii, Canada and Spain. Jillian takes one lucky man on her ultimate dream date: a private concert by Grammy Award-winner and four-time CMA Female Vocalist of the Year Martina McBride at the House of Blues in Hollwood. McBride will sing her hit "Ride," as well as her new single, "I Just Call You Mine," from her new album, "Shine," which debuted at No. 1 on the Country Album charts. Seven bachelors go on a group date to Venice Beach, California, for a game of pick-up basketball. Little did they know that they would play against the world famous Harlem Globetrotters. In the most daring date in "Bachelorette" history, Jillian takes one man on a helicopter ride to the roof of the Bonaventure Hotel in downtown Los Angeles, but the only way down is to rappel 30 floors to the pool. Will the guy have the courage to measure up to our most daring Bachelorette? Then, it's "lights, camera, action!" as 11 bachelors get to channel their inner John Wayne on a movie set, acting in an old-fashioned Western. Are there any scene stealers, or just those who would like to steal a kiss?

Traveling north, Canada becomes Jillian's personal playground with the guys, as she takes some of the bachelors to her hometown of Vancouver, showing them the city sights through her eyes. Then she takes one man ziplining through a mountain in Whistler and six of the men get a truly romantic surprise, traveling on The Rocky Mountaineer for a spectacular cross-country train journey, stopping for dates in some of the most beautiful places in North America.

As in the past, men will continue to be eliminated each week, but if at any point along the way a bachelor should decide that he's no longer interested in the Bachelorette, he can reject her invitation to continue dating. Two lucky men will meet her family, and she will visit the final bachelors' hometowns for a slice of their lives in an effort to determine the man with whom she is most compatible -- but there are surprises in store for Jillian that shake her world. At the end of the journey, the Bachelorette may quite possibly have found true love. But the big question is: After all of this, will he pop the question, and will she say yes?

Hosted by Chris Harrison, "The Bachelorette" is a production of Next Entertainment in association with Warner Horizon Television. Mike Fleiss and Martin Hilton are the executive producers. "The Bachelorette" is broadcast with Spanish subtitles via secondary closed captioning. A TV parental guideline will be posted closer to airdate.

This episode of "The Bachelorette" will be available on ABC.com the day after airing on the network for users to watch online.

Meet Blakesley Grace Sutter!

Meet Blakesley Grace! Bachelorette couple Ryan and Trista Sutter introduce their baby girl, now 4 ½ weeks old, in the latest issue of Life & Style.

Posing with their daughter and son Maxwell Alston, 21 months, Trista shows off the nursery and dishes on her delivery — she went into labor three weeks early, despite a scheduled c-section — choosing the family name Blakesley, and being the only successfully married pair from the ABC reality show.

When Max was born, you had to be put under general anesthesia to have an emergency c-section. How were things different this time around?

This birth was so much easier. Blakesley was born three weeks early, and I did have another c-section, but I didn’t need general anesthesia. I just walked into the hospital and put my gown on, and then my doctor came in and said, “Okay, it’s time.”

I didn’t know you could just walk into the delivery room, because the last time, I was wheeled in on a hospital bed!

What was the best part of the delivery?

Being able to hear her cry when she came out and then seeing her right away. With Max, I was under, and I didn’t wake up until several hours later. But this time I was able to hear her first cry and see Ryan there too.

How did you come up with the name Blakesley?

It’s a family name. Ryan really loved the name Grace. At first we were calling her Gracie, but then we decided to stick with Blakesley.

How does it feel to have a little girl? Are you already having fun dressing her up?

First of all, I feel so blessed to have a boy and a girl. I can’t really dress her in girlie things yet because she’s so little, but trust me, I’m getting excited! But for now she’s wearing some of Max’s old hand-me-downs, like his onesies.

You and Ryan are the only couple from the Bachelor and Bachelorette shows to make it to the altar and start a family. What’s your secret?

You know, it’s so hard to say. I will acknowledge that it’s difficult. You meet under these crazy circumstances, and then you get separated for three months, which was super hard. And I think some people just think they’re ready and then when they see the person again, they realize those feelings just aren’t there. I didn’t set out to be the only Bachelorette to get married. I just feel lucky and blessed that my life turned out this way.

Is Jillian Harris Going to Follow Melissa Rycroft onto 'Dancing with the Stars'?

Since Melissa Rycroft was dumped by Jason Mesnick on last season's "The Bachelor," her star has risen as one of the semi-finalists on "Dancing with the Stars." Does the new "Bachelorette" have similar aspirations?

"Oh, my God, no. I am the worst dancer in the world," Jillian Harris says in a phone call promoting the new season. "I could not do anything to do with dancing or singing. If I was a good dancer, yes, I would go on 'Dancing with the Stars.' My coordination is pretty bad. You need to watch the season. There are a few times when I show that I am not a good dancer."

Jillian says that the shooting schedule for "The Bachelorette" has kept her so busy that she has only had time to turn the TV on once, but she has tried to keep up with Melissa by getting the info second hand.

"I know she is in the semi-finals," Jillian says. "I miss her so much. I can't wait to see her after all this is over. I am proud of her. I know she is doing well."

The 29-year-old Canadian, who works as a restaurant interior designer, says while "DWTS" is not in her future, she wouldn't turn down the opportunity to compete on a design show.

"I love my job that I have right now," she says. "I love everything to do with my job. Would I take on a reality show that had to do with interior design? I think that would be another incredible opportunity. I would love to do something like that, but I am not here to find a career in the TV industry. I would be more than thrilled to go back to my regular life and do my restaurant design and work nine to nine again."

"The Bachelorette"'s two-hour premiere airs Monday, May 18 at 9:02 p.m. on ABC.

ABC PRESS RELEASE:

TRANSCRIPT FROM THE MAY 12 "THE BACHELORETTE"
TELECONFERENCE WITH NEW BACHELORETTE JILLIAN HARRIS

"The Bachelorette" premieres MONDAY, MAY 18 (9:02-11:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network.

Cathy Rehl:    Thank you. And welcome everybody to our first conference call of the season with Jillian Harris. We have a very unusual circumstance this time in that for the first time we are still in production with the show, while the show is going to premiere.

So Jillian will only be able to answer certain things.  She will not be able to tell you how this comes out because she can't; it hasn't finished. It will be done towards the end of May.  And I can you that right now she's in Hawaii-- somewhere in Hawaii.

And other than that, we are going to go back to our process of taking two questions per person at a time. And then we'll cycle through everybody and then you can come back and ask other questions.

You certainly can ask Jillian about last season. I know many of you can't wait to do that. But we are trying to focus on the upcoming season, so please try to limit that. We have a limited amount of time with her because as I said we are in production. So let's get started right now.

Operator:    Ladies and gentlemen, at this time if you would like to ask a question press star then the number 1 on your telephone keypad. Again that's star 1 to ask a question.

Our first question comes from the line of Paulette Cohn with ET Online.

Paulette Cohn:    Good morning, Jillian.

Jillian Harris:    Good morning, Paulie how are you?

Paulette Cohn:    I'm good. So when we talked at the end of the Bachelor you weren't sure that you wanted to do this. What was it that made you change your mind?

Jillian Harris:    Well, temptation I guess. It's just curiosity and having, getting the opportunity I think last time you asked me, I just had no idea that I would even have the opportunity.

But once you get that little ticket and somebody says, "Do you want to give this a try?" I always thought well I'm still single, and I, you know, last season was definitely hard. But I learned a lot about myself and what's the harm in giving it a shot.

Paulette Cohn:    Okay and for my second question. Can you, I know you can't tell us your situation now because it hasn't ended. But can you rate these guys? Do you think there might be somebody?

Jillian Harris:    Oh, I've learnt my lesson. I do not rate the guys. But they're just very, they're all very different. And they all make me feel differently, but I can tell you that they are wonderful guys, and I think I've made some really, really great choices.

Paulette Cohn:    Okay, thank you.

Jillian Harris:    Yes, no problem.

Operator:    Our next question comes from the line of Ruth Myles with Swerve at the Calgary Herald.

Ruth Myles:    Hi, Jillian how are you?

Jillian Harris:    Hi, how are you, say hi to Calgary for me.

Ruth Myles:    I will. it's snowing in Peace River today so...

Jillian Harris:    No, are you kidding me?

Ruth Myles:    I'm not.

Jillian Harris:    Oh my God, well I'm sorry to tell everybody that I'm sitting here watching the waves roll in.

Ruth Myles:    Oh nice. I got to ask you the first question that all of Calgary if not Canada wants to know. There's no Canadian guys in the running?

Jillian Harris:    I know.

Ruth Myles:    How did you feel about that?

Jillian Harris:    But you know what I thought of when, you know, I didn't know there was not going to be any. But when they all came out the first night, it was one of the first things that I thought. And then I sort of thought to myself, okay what if there were three or four Canadian guys. What are the chances that one of those guys would be the one that I choose?

And also what are the chances like, you know, what's better for me to find a guy that maybe lives in Seattle or along the Western Coast. Or to find a guy who lives out in Toronto.

You know what I mean so that I guess when I put it into perspective and I sort of thought, you know, I am a Canadian I am a very proud Canadian. But I've learned a lot that there's not a huge difference between American guys and Canadian guy so I'm okay with that.

Ruth Myles:    Okay and I have to ask you what do you eat on your hot dogs?

Jillian Harris:    Mustard.

Ruth Myles:    You're a straight mustard.

Jillian Harris:    Well I like to load it up but mustard and sauerkraut.

Ruth Myles:    Oh interesting combination.

Jillian Harris:    Yes.

Ruth Myles:    Okay thanks so much.

Jillian Harris:    Thank you.

Operator:    Our next question comes from the line of Tim Malloy with TVGuide.com.

Tim Malloy:    Hi, thank you for doing this.

Jillian Harris:    Hi, how are you?

Tim Malloy:    Good.

Jillian Harris:    Good.

Tim Malloy:    For my first question I wanted to ask (Mike Fleiss) told us that he talked to Melissa Rycroft and also, I'm forgetting her name right now.

Jillian Harris:    Molly.

Tim Malloy:    Molly right. Before approaching you and I just wanted to see if you felt like third place or if you ever felt like a third choice?

Jillian Harris:    I was a third choice on last season. I know what that feels like.  I'm comfortable with that. But no, but I mean really, in all honesty, it's like obviously there's going to be other people that are considered for this role. And I'm not sure if you've read anything about my views on me being selected.

But honestly I'm just a short little hyper quirky Canadian and I actually don't feel like I fit the mold of the Bachelorette very well. And I was very surprised that they asked me. So it's no it doesn't come as a surprise to me that they would have asked Melissa and Molly. They're both very beautiful like talented outgoing personable girls.

And just also me being placed third on the Bachelor. Sort of naturally places either one of them as the natural choice. So I mean no it doesn't make me feel like I'm third. It makes me feel really happy that they declined.

Tim Malloy:    I also wanted to ask and first, I hope you give yourself as much credit as you give them, you deserve it.

Jillian Harris:    Thank you.

Tim Malloy:    But secondly, you mentioned that your father's jaw dropped after the hot tub scene last season.

Jillian Harris:    Yes.

Tim Malloy:    The show really strongly insinuated that you and also the other contestants basically had relations with this guy. And I just wanted to see if there was anything you wanted to clear the air about or help (unintelligible) I guess.

Jillian Harris:    Sorry what was your name?

Tim Malloy:    Tim Malloy.

Jillian Harris:    Tim I think that that's probably the most inappropriate question ever.

Tim Malloy:    Really?

Jillian Harris:    Well yes and like I'm normally really a really open girl about all these kind of things. But I mean it's one of those things, that anybody can assume that I had a steamy make out session with Jason and I went in the hot tub. That him and I quote unquote "did it." And we can also assume that every Bachelor and Bachelorette in history has done it with those people.

But unfortunately what you don't see on camera is what, and I think it's one of those things that it's like what if I turn the question on you and ask you if you had sex last night?

Tim Malloy:    Well, the reason I was asking is because the show really insinuated it.

Jillian Harris:    Yes.

Tim Malloy:    And if that wasn't the case I wanted to give you a chance to clear the air if you wanted to.

Jillian Harris:    Yes I mean...

Tim Malloy:    Or to not answer it, you know, there's no gun to your head.

Jillian Harris:    You know what it's like even if I had or hadn't I don't think that's a topic that I would even want to talk with. And I know like, and actually you, and I give you huge credit for having the guts to ask that question. Because I know it's a question that everybody wants to ask.

But I always find it really funny like a few people asked my mom that question after last season. And my mom didn't know how to answer it and I just told her tell people it's inappropriate to ask that question.

And I think being a 30-year-old grown woman who is very successful in her career. And has a great, you know, background and great morals and great values people can take a look at me and who I am as a person. And they're entitled to their opinion.

Tim Malloy:    I think my reason for asking is really knowing what we know now about Jason I think people, definitely our readers, view him negatively.

Jillian Harris:    Yes.

Tim Malloy:    When they believe that he had, you know, hooked up with three different women over the course of this. Knowing that two of them, at least probably two of them were going home.

Jillian Harris:    But what about all the other bachelors and bachelorettes?

Tim Malloy:    I'm not talking about them.

Jillian Harris:    I know yes ,I honestly think that Jason is a really great guy and I think that being in the position that he's in now. I definitely and even after he let me go last season.

Whatever, you know, steamy make out session we had I don't feel like he led me on. He is going through the process to make sure that he makes the right choices.

And sometimes, you know, a good steamy make out session with somebody can enlighten you and say you know what I didn't feel that spark that I was looking for.

And don't get me wrong like, I'm not really offended. I was actually waiting for that question and it's funny how it fires me up. Because I am doing something that's very public and I am putting my love life on the line publicly.

But, you know, it's like let's say I had slept with Jason then I don't think that's anybody's business. And let's say I hadn't slept with Jason and that also is nobody's business.

And I think that this is where I'm being really stubborn and I could say right now I did not sleep with him just to make myself look better. But I don't want to do that because I don't want to for people to feel entitled for them to know that information.

Tim Malloy:    Okay, well thank you very much.

Jillian Harris:    Sorry Tim, I'm sorry if I came over a little bit harsh but that's the one thing I feel really strongly about.

Operator:    Our next question comes from the line of Mike Hughes with TV America.

Mike Hughes:    Hey thanks. And I didn't have sex last night but that's not the discussion here. Hey let me ask one of the things that people were intrigued by is just, you know, Vancouver, you know, is interesting enough. But coming from a place like Peace River just sounds so interesting and exotic and so forth.

Give us a little more of a feeling, did you grow up, did you spend your whole childhood in Peace River? And how did that form you as a person?

Jillian Harris:    I spent yes my whole childhood.  I was born and raised in Peace River and I believe I moved out when I was about 19. And honestly, you know, like I'm going to start to get teary-eyed just thinking about it.

But I loved growing up there. It was just like, it was full of being an old soul because you learn to communicate with people your own age and adults and you're always camping and fishing and spending time outdoors.

A lot of family barbecues a lot of just like, you know, I grew up in a town where I could stay out running around the woods till 7:00 or 8:00 at night and come home. And nobody would be worried about me.

I came from a town where my auntie lived right across the street and I could run down and say hi to her and have a coffee and nobody would worry about me. So, it's just it's a great, great little town and most of my friends and family still live there. And I wish I don't know sometimes I wish I was a lot closer that's for sure.

Mike Hughes:    Yes, that's what a lot of us wish we were now, yes.

Jillian Harris:    Yes.

Mike Hughes:    And just one other thing to kind of explain when you called yourself a short little quirky Canadian. All which are things I enjoy. First of all be specific how short are you and just give us an example of quirky?

Jillian Harris:    I am 5ft 2ins.

Mike Hughes:    Okay.

Jillian Harris:    Maybe 5ft 3ins on a good day. And I think I'm just quirky because I mean, when it comes to sex appeal, I don't know how much I have. But I know I'm just, I love to make people laugh. I love to stand up for myself as you've just heard. I love speak what's on my mind, I love to find humor in everything.

I have been known to like, I don't know, I'm just, I'm just all about funny, you know I just love being funny. And I love telling good jokes and making people laugh. And I'm not afraid to look silly and to make fun of myself in order to make somebody else laugh.

Mike Hughes:    Cool, thanks a lot.

Jillian Harris:    No problem thank you.

Operator:    Our next question comes from the line of Stephanie Zolis with TV Guide.

Stephanie Zolis:    Hi Jillian. This season there were more bachelors on the show than ever before. Did you find the situation a little bit overwhelming?

Jillian Harris:    Oh my God, yes. I was overwhelmed when there was 25 guys and when the extra five came out. Yes, I was very overwhelmed I didn't know how to react. And how to, you know, you're spreading yourself thin if you've got one night to try to connect with 30 suitors. And remember all their names and where they're from and what they do for a living. It's very hard.

Stephanie Zolis:    And part of the reason Jason chose Melissa first off was he said he had to, he kind of showed some reservations about choosing the wild card and taking that risk.

Have you thought about how you're going to base your decision in the end and how have you made the decision so far in eliminating the bachelors?

Jillian Harris:    Well, I have to admit it's way harder than I thought. And you know I have all these different things going through my mind. You know, do I pick the guy who has everything I want on paper? Do I pick the guy who makes me laugh and would be my best friend? Do I pick the guy who makes my heart go pitter patter? Do I pick the guy that everybody else likes?

It's, or do I pick the guy I know America is going to love but not me? It's like so difficult to know how to choose the right person in the end. And as you know I have not chosen that person yet, so I'm still struggling with that decision.

But I think I'm just trying to look at all of those things I just told you and make sure that one of those four or five things are there. And continue to spend time with them and really, like I kept on telling myself last season. If I saw one of those guys walking down the street and I met them in a pub with peanuts on the floor.

Would I be attracted to them? Would I want to call them the next day? Would I be excited for them to walk through the door 50 years from now? And I think that's what I keep on trying to think of. And it's hard to put yourself in that state of mind when you're in this beautiful tropical fairy tale paradise. But that's what I keep on telling myself.

Stephanie Zolis:    So relating it back to real life...

Jillian Harris:    Exactly yes.

Stephanie Zolis:    ...to see if it works with the bachelor, okay that's great. Thanks.

Jillian Harris:    You're welcome.

Operator:    Our next question comes from the line of Rita Sherrow with the Tulsa World.

Rita Sherrow:    Hi Jillian thanks for taking the call.

Jillian Harris:    No problem Rita.

Rita Sherrow:    I was wondering in the initial meeting with the guys there was a guy named Brian from Oklahoma who swooped you up. Did that make a good impression?

Jillian Harris:    Oh, funny that you guys already know this stuff already because I have not seen anything. But yes I thought it made a good impression, I mean I think it was really cute and it was outgoing and he was taking a big risk in trying to stand out.

So yes, just really as far first impressions are concerned as long as a guy isn't rude or negative. Then you're making a good impression whatever you're trying to do.

Rita Sherrow:    Did you find it hard, well I'm sure you did find it hard, with 30 people when you actually had to cut 10 of them. I mean it wasn't like I didn't get to these, you know, three or four beyond, "hello, nice to meet you," you know, "what's your name?" It's 10 of them how do you eliminate 10 and I know you have to but?

Jillian Harris:    I actually and I might eat my words later. Maybe after I get to know them after watching the show a little bit more those 10 guys. But I feel like that night I was I did I got so much rest.

And I treated it almost like a job like I had to be on all the time, I had to be aware. I really feel like I got enough time and I did find it difficult I felt like I was very exhausted. I don't even want say by the end of the night because it was pretty much morning by the time you're done that evening.

The guys were all great, my problem as I've had this whole season, is this isn't Mr. Congeniality it's who is going to be best with quirky short Canadian Jill.  And so it was difficult for me to disappoint them but I've always, I've felt very confident in my decisions at every rose ceremony.

Rita Sherrow:    And what did you take into this season that you learned with Jason?

Jillian Harris:    Just to be open and vulnerable and to be myself. And by being myself it doesn't mean that I'm always making the right decisions or always reacting the way I would hope.

But being yourself means, you know, you're tired and you haven't slept, you know, in eight days. And you're juggling 15, 16, 20 guys and you break down and you cry or whatever being yourself, just be yourself. And do deal with the situation as it comes and try to have fun whenever you can.

I think that's what I learned last season. I think I was so afraid to show emotion and I was so afraid to be vulnerable, that I may have sold myself short, and in this season, I'm definitely not doing that.

Rita Sherrow:    Thank you so much.

Jillian Harris:    No problem.

Operator:    Our next question comes from the line of Jim Halterman with Futon Critic.

Jim Halterman:    Hey how are you today?

Jillian Harris:    Good, how are you John?

Jim Halterman:    I'm doing great.  It's Jim.

Jillian Harris:    Oh Jim sorry.

Jim Halterman:    That's okay, no worries. I want to know if you have surprised yourself at who you've been attracted to. Because like you said, you know, you can kind of see on paper what you want. But then when you actually meet somebody things can surprise you. Have you gotten that at all?

Jillian Harris:    Absolutely, I mean like I said before, it's like I, you know, there's guys that I would keep because they're exactly what I want on paper. But maybe they don't make me feel the way I should.

And then there's the guys that make me feel the way I should but they're nothing of what I wanted on paper. And, you know, it's it is definitely confusing but I have for sure surprised myself.

But with the feelings that I have with, you know, the guys that are left is really the ultimate goal. So I have had to kind of throw that piece of paper away.

Jim Halterman:    Okay and I love your hot dog theory.  Did you employ that at all with the guys that are still left in the competition?

Jillian Harris:    Oh, these guys give me a run for my money and they're not buying the whole hot dog thing. So I tried, I've tried to play the hot dog thing on them but they're not buying it.

So we've had a little bit of fun with it and they all, they definitely know what my favorite foods are by now. And they know why I love mustard and I love hot dogs. But other than that it hasn't, I don't think I'll be the hot dog girl this season.

Jim Halterman:    All right, best of luck, thanks.

Jillian Harris:    Thank you so much.

Operator:    Our next question comes from the line of Rick Porter with Zap2it.com.

Rick Porter:    Hi Jillian, how are you?

Jillian Harris:    Good how are you?

Rick Porter:    Good. Because I'm just wondering given all that happened with Jason and the enormous criticism he came under last season and your answer to that earlier question. Why the hell do you want to put your romantic life out there in front of millions of people every week?

Jillian Harris:    Right, yes and I start finding myself getting heated when answering the questions. Then I kind of thought to myself, right, I did put myself in this situation.

That's the one question I don't feel like is appropriate. But I'm putting my romantic life out there on public, not my sex life or anything like that. I think that I am, I, like I said believe, I'm successful. I have great values, great morals. I'm a family girl. I volunteer for Big Brothers and Big Sisters.

I'm not here to date and mess around with 30 guys. I'm here to hopefully find the person I'm going to spend the rest of my life with. And that is a very very serious thing for me.

And if I have to go through the same criticism that Jason went through, and maybe even make the same bad decisions, I hope that I don't.  But I'm here to find that person and I'm really serious and very passionate about it.

So to be in the public eye for a couple of months in order to find a lifelong happiness for me is totally worth it.

Rick Porter:    And do you feel, I mean obviously you're still in the process of everything. I mean the show doesn't have the greatest track record in doing that.

Jillian Harris:    Right.

Rick Porter:    That do you feel like you're on the right track?

Jillian Harris:    Well, trust me, neither does the dating scene back home. Doesn't have the best track record either. I can tell you that if I walked down the street and I bumped into any of the guys that I have left right now. I strongly believe that I would, my jaw would drop to the floor, I would go home in a mad panic and wonder what I should do next. How I should call this person what I should wear to the next date.

And I probably would end up being with one of those people for a long time. I can't tell you whether it would end in marriage. But all of the people that I have left are remarkable people that I have not met anybody like these guys.

Rick Porter:    Okay.

Jillian Harris:    Yes, no problem.

Operator:    Our next question comes from the line of Tanitia William with Us Weekly Magazine.

Tanitia Williams:    Hi, Jillian.

Jillian Harris:    Hi, how are you?

Tanitia Williams:    Fine.

Jillian Harris:    Good.

Tanitia Williams:    I was wondering now that the tables are turned. What has been the best thing about being the Bachelorette so far?

Jillian Harris:    Other than the fact that I'm sitting on my balcony watching the waves roll in in Hawaii?

Tanitia Williams:    Absolutely yes.

Jillian Harris:    I think the best part is, oh boy, I think well I think I've learned so much about myself last season. But it's hard not being not wearing the pants I guess. You know last season it was hard to remember that I still have to do what's best for me.

But this season, I think I'm even realizing more who I am and what sort of qualities I have to give. And what qualities I'm looking for and I get to make those calls. And I get to make those shots.

And I also feel like, I mean I don't know I haven't lived in the shoes of anybody else who has done this. But I feel like I've been really open and really honest and sometimes too honest. And I've really encouraged the guys to do the same thing.

And I feel like I've had a really open mind with all the guys, you know, somebody tells me something that's really surprising and really shocking. As long as they are honest and as long as they're trying to put themselves out there. There's nothing bad you could say.

So I think that's what I love about doing it this time is that I'm writing the story. And I think it's a lot of fun.

Tanitia Williams:    Absolutely, so do you and Jason are you still friends? Do you remain friends and keep in touch?

Jillian Harris:    Well, I made a conscious decision when I the day I decided to do this. Jason actually was helping me quite a bit make up my mind to do this. He is somebody that I talked to and he really supported me and Melissa supported me. And all the other girls supported me.

But when I knew I made the decision and when I realized okay I'm making the decision to find somebody new. And I had to sort of cut off my relationship with Jason. But it's temporary, and I will definitely be friends with him after all this is over.

I know that what, you know, how people view him but he followed his heart and he made a huge move and he put his reputation on the line. But it's for love and I feel like, you know, right now they're still together and they're still happy. So hopefully they'll prove everybody wrong.

Tanitia Williams:    Absolutely.

Jillian Harris:    Yes.

Tanitia Williams:    And if you were invited to the wedding, if Jason and Molly were to get married would you go?

Jillian Harris:    Oh, that's a good question, okay so this is a part of me that's really open and honest. I feel like if this goes the way I want it to go and I am in a I guess the romantic place that I want to be.

I think I would go for sure.  I can't imagine me showing up to their wedding solo. But yes, I would go if I find what I'm looking for, I would go and I don't know why that makes a difference but I'm just being honest, that's how I feel. I would have a hard time showing up solo but if I find someone I'll go.

Tanitia Williams:    Absolutely, well it sounds like you're going to have a great time. I can't wait to see the final.

Jillian Harris:    Thank you so much.

Operator:    Our next question comes from the line of Monica Sotomayor with Flash News.

Monica Sotomayor:    Hi, Jillian, thanks for your time today.

Jillian Harris:    Hi, Monica, thank you.

Monica Sotomayor:    I was actually just wondering have you ever had, you know, guys vying for your affection, you know, in high school or grade school or anything like that? Obviously not 30 guys at once but, you know?

Jillian Harris:    Honestly, I don't think so I mean my friends will probably be yelling at me right now if they were sitting here saying "yes you have." But I've had a lot of relationships and I've dated a lot of really great guys.

In high school I was sort of the class clown I think. I wasn't really, yes I think I always had one solid boyfriend I never dated a lot. And in the last five years I'd say the roster has been really dry.

Monica Sotomayor:    Okay got it. Now you mentioned several times, you know, how you really enjoy the quirky aspect of your personality, you're proud of it. Are you hoping to find a guy who is just as quirky and unique. Maybe has, you know, little weird habits and things like that?

Jillian Harris:    Well I think I was hoping for that and I've been learning so much about myself in the last couple of years. I definitely know that I that it's hard for me to be with somebody that is as quirky and sort of bubbly as me. Because it's a lot of energy in a room and it probably would give us both a headache.

Monica Sotomayor:    Yes.

Jillian Harris:    So but I need somebody who embraces it and who finds humor in it. And who also has a little, yes, some humor and some of their own quirky, you know, characteristics for sure. I definitely don't want perfection I'm not looking for perfection.

Monica Sotomayor:    Okay, perfect. Have you ever had a boyfriend that just had like a really weird habit that you were, able to kind of accept just because you do seem like a very accepting person?

Jillian Harris:    Well, since I'm not, since I've since broken up with all of them or they've broken up with me. I don't know, there was one boyfriend that I dated and he loved EBay, like loved EBay.

And he knows who he is he's probably going to kill me right now. But anything to do with EBay.  He and I bought all his clothes on EBay and I thought it was really cute. And he actually got me hooked on it for the longest time.

But it was one of those things, it's like it's weird, but I think that's what makes everybody unique and different. And that to me is what's really attractive is if somebody can say this is who I am yes it's a bit strange but it's me.

Monica Sotomayor:    Yes, definitely makes it fun.

Jillian Harris:    Exactly.

Monica Sotomayor:    Great.  Thanks a lot Jillian, good luck.

Jillian Harris:    No problem thank you.

Operator:    Our next question comes from the line of Monica Rizzo with People.

Monica Rizzo:    Hey Jillian.

Jillian Harris:    Hi, Monica how are you?

Monica Rizzo:    I'm good thank you, how are you?

Jillian Harris:    Good.

Monica Rizzo:    You're in Hawaii, you poor thing.

Jillian Harris:    Oh my gosh and it is so beautiful today it's just gorgeous.

Monica Rizzo:    So do you get swept up in the moment? I know you're I don't know if you've said I joined the call late, where you are in the process. But when you're in a romantic setting can you think level headedly?

Jillian Harris:    Honestly, I mean I don't know if anybody will believe me when I say this. But I think it works, I think I would have an easier time falling in love and being swept of my feet if I was back in my home town or their home town.

I feel like when I'm in this beautiful place because you are getting swept off your feet. It's harder to think about reality, I am constantly, like I'll go up to my room and shut all the curtains. And think to myself who do I see coming through the door after a long day of work? After being married for 25 years?

Who do I see comforting me after, you know, I lose somebody down the road. Or who do I see on my wedding day or just those normal those fixing my tire when it's broken.

And so being here in Hawaii and, as you know, we've been to Spain. Has been so amazing and so wonderful. But I'm a very cautious person with all this I take it very seriously.

So I'm sort of like okay put the palm trees and beauty and the coconuts and my ties aside. Just look at the person just for who they are. So I don't think that, I don't think that any of this is distracting me at all.

Monica Rizzo:    Thanks and are you able to say where you are in the narrowing down selection process?

Cathy Rehl:    No, she's not.

Jillian Harris:    I'm not allowed.

Monica Rizzo:    Okay.

Cathy Rehl:    All we said was it will be over by the end of the month.

Monica Rizzo:    All right, well enjoy.

Jillian Harris:    Thank you.

Monica Rizzo:    Thank you.

Operator:    Our next question comes from the line of Jeane Jakle with San Antonio Express.

Jeane Jakle:    Hi, how are you doing Jillian?

Jillian Harris:    Hi ,I'm great how are you?

Jeane Jakle:    Good. I'm kind of intrigued by this Texan who is a financial analyst. But anyway his name is Tanner P.

Jillian Harris:    Oh yes.

Jeane Jakle:    And he said immediately he was obsessed with your feet.

Jillian Harris:    Yes.

Jeane Jakle:    Could you elaborate on that a little?

Jillian Harris:    I can't elaborate on it too much. But Tanner has a foot fetish and he loves feet and I think it was really cute. I mean I don't really love my feet, my one toe is longer than the other toes and they're wrinkly. But he found them really beautiful, so yes, I mean he's a doll. So I think that his foot fetish was really cute.

Jeane Jakle:    So you didn't mind that at all?

Jillian Harris:    No, like you say these are the quirky things that make people unique and make people stand out, and I love it when people embrace their differences. I love it when people can say like I have a foot fetish and that's me. I love that I think that's very attractive.

Jeane Jakle:    I know it's hard to remember but were there any, I'm from Texas, so were there any other Texans that stood out at the very beginning?

Jillian Harris:    There was actually quite few Texans.

Jeane Jakle:    Yes.

Jillian Harris:    There was Bobby and there was Wes and there was Tanner we just talked about. And there was Jake and all of those guys are really incredibly guys and I don't know if it's the water down there. Or the country music but you guys are doing something right.

Jeane Jakle:    Thank you so much.

Cathy Rehl:    She can't be too specific about any of that.

Jillian Harris:    Yes.

Jeane Jakle:    Okay, I realize that, thank you.

Operator:    Our next question comes from the line of Ruth Myles with the Swerve at the Calgary Herald.

Ruth Myles:    I'm back, hi Jillian.

Jillian Harris:    Hi, how are you?

Ruth Myles:    I'm good still.

Jillian Harris:    Good.

Ruth Myles:    I was just going to say touching on, you know, the world of hurt that's possible with reality TV with the backlash against Jason. And the current situation with Jon & Kate Plus 8.

What thoughts have you given to reconciling, you know, your life basically being other people's entertainment?

Jillian Harris:    Well I'm going to be perfectly honest that is something that I do think about a lot. I'm a people pleaser and so naturally I want everybody to like me.

Ruth Myles:    Yes.

Jillian Harris:    And it's really scary but like I said before my the possibility of me finding somebody and this whole experience. Just all the guys that I've met and the places I've traveled and the feelings that I've had, make it worth it.

And I hope, you know, all I can say is that I hope that the Jill that I know that is open and honest and vulnerable and sincere and wants to make people laugh and wants to be a good person is the person that you guys see.

And I also hope that if I make a decision or I react a way that people think isn't appropriate or that people want to judge, I just hope that everybody can put themselves in my shoes and know that I am aware that I am not perfect.

And I'm okay with that and I believe the everybody is entitled to their opinions but before making an opinion, they would put themselves in my shoes.

And, you know, it's scary because I embrace my imperfections I look at everybody who is in the limelight.  And who is in those tabloids including Jason and that scandal with the Jon Plus 8.

And all it does is make me realize that everybody makes mistakes. And everybody nobody is perfect. And I just have to go out there with that mindset and hope that people just appreciate me for that.

And if I am one of those people that, you know, they always say that when you're one of the contestants, you're the underdog. And everybody loves you but when you're the Bachelorette or Bachelor and you're wearing the pants you are judged more.

And I am very aware of that and I am scared of that. But I signed up for this and I'm just going to own it and I'm going, I haven't made a decision yet that I regret.

But I can't say that I haven't made any bad decisions, you know, so I'm just going to deal with it. And cross my fingers and hope that I represent myself well.

Ruth Myles:    And speaking of decisions, you know, hypothetically speaking if there is no, you know, commitment, love match. Are you willing not to choose one of the guys because there's got to be tons of pressure for the fairy tale ending on this?

Jillian Harris:    Yes that's something I've been thinking about a lot. And as you know broadcast live there's no, you know, there's nobody saying that I have to get engaged.

And that's something again it's like the whole being traveling and getting swept off my feet. I don't want to get engaged or commit myself to somebody just because I signed up for this.

I want to commit myself to them because I'm crazy about them and that is one thing I'm sure that in the end if you do see me choosing somebody. Or you do see me not choosing somebody I'll be making that decision not because I'm the Bachelorette but because those are my true feelings.

And that's all I mean and that's something that I've thought about. The two things that you've just brought up is, you know, what if I don't find somebody. And what everybody says to me after this is over, those are my two biggest concerns.

Ruth Myles:    It's very (unintelligible) of you.

Jillian Harris:    Yes, no kidding. But you miss 100% of shots you don't take, right, Wayne Gretsky?

Ruth Myles:    Yes.

Jillian Harris:    And you just have to go out there and give it a shot and see what happens.

Ruth Myles:    Best of luck. Seriously, everybody up here is just like "yay for Jillian" so.

Jillian Harris:    Thank you so much.

Ruth Myles:    You're welcome.

Jillian Harris:    Thank you.

Operator:    Our next question comes from the line of Lindsay Ward with Sun Media.

Lindsay Ward:    How Jillian how are you doing?

Jillian Harris:    Hi, Lindsay. I'm doing great.

Lindsay Ward:    Good. As a Canadian girl you probably haven't dated a lot of Americans. What do you find attractive about them?

Jillian Harris:    You know people are people, and they are really not that much different than Canadians. I can say that they are more forward but maybe I'm just seeing a more forward side of them because of the position that they're in.

One of the hardest things I found dating back home is, and maybe it's me too, is that everybody just tries to be so chill and be your friend and like, "Hey dude what's up?" And it's hard to put yourself out on the line and say, "I like you I want to date you."

And I felt like for me that didn't happen a lot back home. So other than that I don't know these American guys were tons of fun. And I don't know aside from accents, there's a lot of different accents. Which I can't judge because I've got one myself.

Lindsay Ward:    Thank you.

Jillian Harris:    Thank you.

Operator:    Again ladies and gentlemen that's star 1 to ask a question. Our next question comes from the line of Tanitia Williams with Us Weekly magazine.

Tanitia Williams:    Hi Jillian. I wanted to ask you have you watched Melissa on Dancing With The Stars and find out if you voted for her and what you thought?

Jillian Harris:    I haven't been able to watch her. I mean I don't know if anybody knows how crazy the schedule is here. But there's not a lot of time for any TV watching. I don't think I've turned a TV on, I've turned a TV on maybe once since I started all of this.

But I have been keeping my eye on her and I've been asking a lot. And I know that she is in the semi-finals. And I miss her so much, I cannot wait to see her after all this is over. So I'm so proud of her, I can't wait to see her and I know she's doing well.

Tanitia Williams:    And in the event, like a previous reporter asked that you didn't find love on the show hopefully you will. Would you be willing to go on Dancing With The Stars also?

Jillian Harris:    No, oh my God, no, I am the worst dancer in the world. I could not do anything to do with dancing or singing. No, I would, no, if I was a good dancer, yes I would go. I would go on Dancing With The Stars.

Tanitia Williams:    Well that's the whole point of it though, you know, they train you they, you know, they mold you?

Jillian Harris:    I don't know I'm pretty bad, my coordination I think you better wait and watch the season. I think there's a few times where I'll show you I'm not a good dancer.

Tanitia Williams:    All right thanks a lot.

Jillian Harris:    Let's choose something else maybe that has to do with interior design maybe I would do that.

Tanitia Williams:    Oh, okay. Thank you.

Jillian Harris:    No problem.

Operator:    Our next question comes from the line of Mike Hughes with TV America.

Mike Hughes:    Hello, I just have a quick one. You know, the women have had the only success. Bachelorette has had some success and Bachelor hasn't had any. Do you think that's just coincidence or is there a reason?

Is it possible that the women are a little better at being in a selecting position?

Jillian Harris:    Oh, I don't think it's a coincidence I think women are a lot smarter than men when it comes to this kind of thing. That's going to be my shortest answer today.

Mike Hughes:    Okay and then my other question is this one. You said something about interior designing. You know we've got a ton of those shows in the U.S. we got a ton of good new reality interior design shows. When this is all done would you be interested in doing one of those shows that?

Jillian Harris:    I okay I love my job that I have right now. I do restaurant design and I love everything to do with my job. But would I do would I take on a reality show that had to do with interior design?

I think that would be another incredible opportunity and I would love. I think that I would love to do something like that. But I'm not here to find a career in the TV industry.

I would be more than thrilled to go back to my regular life and do my restaurant design and work nine to five. Right nine-to-five, yes, right, nine-to-nine again and so whatever happens, happens. But I'm pretty open to all those possibilities for sure.

Mike Hughes:    Okay, cool, thanks.

Jillian Harris:    We have to go?

Operator:    Again, ladies and gentlemen that's star 1.

Jillian Harris:    Sorry.

Cathy Rehl:    That's okay we're almost at the end of our time.  We can take like one more question.

Jillian Harris:    Okay sure.

Operator:    Again ladies and gentlemen that's star 1.

Cathy Rehl:    Okay.

Operator:    And we have no questions in queue at this time.

Jillian Harris:    Thank you.

Chris Harrison blogs 'The Bachelorette' season premiere

Well hello, my friends -- oh how I've missed you. Just look what you people have done to me: This time last year I had never even blogged before and now I Twitter. I Twitter! What has happened to me? I'm so hip next thing you know I'll be wearing Ed Hardy shirts and riding a motorcycle. (By the way guys, if that's your thing no offense -- women really love that!) The last season was so mentally and emotionally draining I wasn't really sure I was ready to jump back in the water so quickly with another season. I arrived the first night and found Jillian getting her makeup done. She hopped up with that infectious smile of hers and gave me a big hug. She was a breath of fresh air, and I knew right then we were ready to go again. I've done so many interviews where I've tried to describe what's so great about Jillian; the best way to sum it all up is what you see is what you get. She's the real deal and any of these guys will be lucky to end up with her -- and I'm truly hoping that happens.  Notice I said hoping: For the first time in Bachelor/Bachelorette history, the show is premiering while we're still in production. So if somebody tells you they know how all this ends, you should also ask them for future lottery ticket numbers.

I'm sure you noticed we are back in the same house. I love shooting at this house; not only is it close to where I live, but it looks great on TV. Once again, huge props to the art department and lighting for making everything look so fantastic. I wish you all could meet the small army that works so hard to make this show so good. The first night is always a long one and this one was no different. We did have one little twist for Jillian: About half way through the night, I brought five more guys in. I really didn't think much of this, that is until I saw everybody's reaction. I figured it would be fun and Jillian would be excited -- the more the merrier, right?  The original 25 guys got pretty territorial, and Jilli got a bit overwhelmed. I think she had just gotten a handle on everything when I threw her the curve ball.  She ended up handling it like a pro and that's a good thing, because she ended up keeping most of the new guys.

Speaking of, lets talk about the guys and the cocktail party. (Hold on, 'cause here comes a bunch of random thoughts about the guys and the night.) "On a scale of one to Bilbro... I'm Bilbro."  Greg, I'm gonna miss you the most of all. Greg was certainly not the one for Jilli, but damn he would have been outstanding entertainment.  Brian, "Hot tub Harris"... great line. That's gonna stick. Kyle, if your gonna roll up on The Bachelorette in a Members Only jacket, you can't think you have game -- you better have major game. No rose for Kyle, and we lost our only member. Greg and Mike challenge each other to a break off -- not since the '80s has such a battle been waged. Know this people: The rec center not only wasn't saved this time, it burned to the ground. In the end, in my humble breakin' opinion, Greg did get served and Mike stomped the yard. (Can somebody get Kyle's Members Only jacket for me please?)

Tanner P's foot fetish...  Let me tell you, at this point Jillian didn't know anything about his odd desires.  Don't worry -- this story isn't over yet!  You can bet your left pinky toe on that. Dave got the first impression rose -- what a perfect example of what a great women Jilli is. Dave really fell all over himself trying to speak when he got out of the limo, and I think Jillian knew his ego had taken a bit of a shot and he was embarrassed. Jillian really gave him a shot in the arm by giving him the first impression rose.  Class move, Jilli!  Wondering what you guys think of Wes and his song for Jillian. I know some of the guys were put off, but it worked on Jillian, and isn't that what really matters most?

The first rose ceremony was one of the weirdest scenes I've ever walked into on this show.  It felt like there were 50 guys in that room. I know it's only five more than normal, but it just felt very crowded in there. We went from 30 down to 20, so obviously the numbers are going to be a little different each week. This, oddly enough, really changed the show. (We'll discuss this more in the upcoming weeks.) Let me say this before I go, after nineteen roses I know you were confused, and thank God I was there to let you know there was one final rose left. What would you do without me?  Wait, don't answer that! I need the job. It's good to be back, and I'm glad you're back with me. It's a great season and I think you'll all enjoy the ride.

Chris Harrison blogs 'The Bachelorette': Episode 2

If you're new to this blog, and it appears we have some new readers, I usually start off by answering or responding to some of your comments. But this week I want to start by letting you know I'm writing this the night before our final rose ceremony. By the time you read this, the season will be officially wrapped. This is the first time in the history of the show we have still been in production while the show is on the air. Now, on to your comments.

Teacher, you are correct -- I am not a master of the written or spoken word. I should be better with my grammar and set a better example for my kids. Just not sure that ain't gonna happen... oops! No, it didn't rain before episode one. This is where TV and common sense run in different directions: The director wants the driveway wet so it looks good on TV. Meanwhile, wardrobe puts Jillian in a full-length light colored gown. Not a good combination. What you guys didn't see is when Jillian was walking in and out of the house, I was trailing behind her holding her dress off the wet cement so it wouldn't get trashed.  It didn't help much. Somebody mentioned at rose ceremonies that names are written on the roses to help Jillian know who to call. Not true, but that's a really cool idea. Not sure the art department would be up for that little plan. For those who asked, you can find me on twitter @chrisbharrison. Sorry, just not up to the Facebook challenge yet -- baby steps. Glad to see there's still some outraged haters out there. I'd hate to think that everybody was happy and content. Oh, and not sure what you meant by asking if I like to get wet like Jeff Probst -- but all of a sudden I felt as creeped out as Jillian's feet. Now, on to episode 2!

It's always fun to move the guys into the outhouse, or "bunkhouse" as these guys end up calling it. It's not a huge surprise, but this season moving 20 guys into that space was pretty funny. It was so packed in there they were sleeping in single bunks right next to each other. One outdoor shower and one bathroom -- stuff we would never do to the group of women, sorry fellas. I know you love the behind the scenes tidbits, so here's a bunch from this episode you won't read or hear about anywhere else. The group race for Jillian was fun. Pretty funny leaving Michael up on the balcony, as he was acting all cocky expecting the rose. Wes ended up winning the competition and dinner.  More importantly, this is also where the guys begin to question his motives and intentions. One of the coolest dates this year (especially for Jillian, given that she's such a country fan) was the concert with Martina McBride. The date started out with Jillian looking sexy driving off with Jake in this purple Stingray. What you didn't see that wasn't so sexy was Jillian having to sit on three pillows so we could see her on camera and she could see over the steering wheel. Turns out, Martina is a big fan of the show and really wanted to be a part of it.  We had conference calls where Martina was pitching ideas on how to get involved in the date. She was awesome on stage and awesome to deal with. Thanks Martina!

On the group date, Mike ran into the ocean in a bikini. He actually bought those off of some random guy on the beach for $10. Jillian thought that was very funny, and he ended up getting the rose for it.  (Running in a bikini, funny... Brian going full nude at the party, not so much. We'll discuss that more later.) Many of you commented on Tanner P. and his foot fetish. The truth about his obsession came out in this episode. I talked to Jillian today, and she told me she found it unique and kind of funny, not creepy. They laughed and had fun with it, unlike Brian going full frontal at the party. Okay, let's just deal with that now.  Jillian put it best in the deliberation room -- sorry you didn't get to see that this week; we just had too much stuff to cram into the show. Jillian said she likes to have fun and wants to see the guys be themselves, but there's a line of decency and it was crossed. There's fun and cute, and then there's a lack of respect -- and unfortunately for Brian, his choice was the latter. Jillian felt very uncomfortable, and in the end that helped her decision in sending him home. On a personal note, that's just not something I ever need to see again.  Brian was right -- the skinny dip did volumes separating him from the rest of the guys.

One little surprise for Jillian and the guys during the cocktail party was the vote. Tensions were already running a little high, and I don't think the ballot box helped. At the time I kind of thought Brad would get the most votes, but he didn't get any. Juan really started to rub some of the guys the wrong way but Jillian decided to save him. One thing I didn't mention on the show is that I got one vote to be sent home -- that was pretty funny. In closing, I'd like to say I hope you or your significant other isn't hung like a "light switch," and on a scale from zero to Bilbro, I hope you're all feeling Bilbro! See ya next week, and I will continue to read all of your comments -- the good, bad and the ugly.

Bachelorette Blog: Mike’s Speedo Makes Jillian’s Day

In week 2 of Jillian’s adventures, she sent the guys on a scavenger hunt, two-stepped with a buttoned-up Jake and got a kick out of Mike’s Speedo surprise.

My first week as the Bachelorette was an incredible whirlwind. All 20 guys moved into the house and I moved into the mansion. It was so strange having the whole master bedroom to myself. I shared that same room with six other girls last season.

The first date started as a pool party at the mansion that turned into a scavenger hunt through L.A. I felt bad leaving the party early, but I knew that it was all part of the game. I felt so glamorous driving through Los Angeles in that convertible Mini Cooper. It was so much fun!

As the guys raced through the streets, I called each of them to see how they were doing. Somehow, Tanner and Mike Stag ended up in Chinatown! I was like, “Where are you?” and Mike was like, “I don’t know, there are all these signs that we can’t read!” Also, Brian and Ed stopped along the way to get me a flower, which was so sweet of them, but it also held them up. I was lucky that I had time to stop and get ready along the way. The guys had to drive around in wet swim trunks until they changed into their tuxes. I loved the dress I wore at the Crocker Club. I felt like a total princess in it. And I wore my favorite shoes that my dad got me for good luck.

I felt awful that I could only choose one guy to have dinner with in the vault. I wanted to invite them all in! But, in the end I chose Wes because he was the most mysterious to me and I wanted to get to know him better. I didn’t know until later that Wes was a little claustrophobic and was secretly freaking out the whole time we were having dinner. He definitely didn’t show it!

The next date was with Jake, and I was so excited to spend time with him. Up until our date, he had seemed so buttoned up, so I was curious to see if he could let his hair down, and he totally could! I loved dancing with Jake. He taught me how to two-step, and that’s kind of a miracle because I’m so not coordinated. Guys usually won’t dance with me because I will stomp on their toes, but with Jake, I felt really graceful. Seeing Martina McBride perform just for us was the thrill of a lifetime. She is one of my all-time favorite singers and I could not believe she was there just for us. I kept saying, “pinch me, am I dreaming?”

The third date was the basketball date, and it was a blast! I had my Harlem Globetrotters uniform on under my jacket for the first part of the date and it was really hot. The guys kept asking me if I wanted to take my jacket off, and I kept insisting, “Nope, I’m fine. Really,” because I didn’t want to blow the surprise. It was Simon’s first time ever playing basketball, and I was really impressed with his efforts.

Playing on the Globetrotters’ team was awesome. And all those guys are so funny. I had a chance to talk with Special K afterwards and he told me to watch how my guys play, because it says a lot about their personalities. For example, if a guy hogs the ball on the court, then he’s going to be selfish in bed. Good thing all of the guys shared the ball that day.

Oh I almost forgot, the real story behind the Speedo. Okay, so after playing basketball, I took the guys for a walk on Venice Beach. We passed a bigger guy wearing a tiny black Speedo and I casually mentioned, “If any of you guys wear something like that, you will be my hero.” Right after that, Mike disappeared and we didn’t know where he went. All of a sudden, he runs out into the water wearing that same guy’s speedo!! I don’t know how he pulled it off, but he made my entire day by doing that!

Wow, there’s so much to tell you, but don’t worry I’m almost done. The cocktail party was overwhelming, with 20 guys, and there were still some that I hadn’t had dates with that week. The part I hate the most is sending guys home. I hate it and it gets harder each time, but I know it’s all part of the process. All in all, this was a wicked week, and the best part is, it’s just the beginning!

It's David vs. Juan on 'The Bachelorette'

click on link below to view video

After last week's episode, it is no secret that "The Bachelorette"'s David has an axe to grind with Juan, who he accused of breaking the "man code."

David finally gets five minutes alone to talk with Jillian -- the first time since the first night -- and just as he is expressing his feelings to her, Juan comes along and interrupts.

Before David leaves, he tells her, "There are other guys in the house that I think are not a good fit for you."

Of course, he means Juan. In fact, Juan is the least popular bachelor in the bunch, because on last week's show, the men cast ballots as to who they would like to see leave -- and Juan won that dubious distinction.

So now, David is trying to rally support for his point of view, telling the other bachelors, "I have zero respect for Juan. He seems shady. He is here for the wrong reasons. He has lied. As far as I am concerned that is the biggest slap in the face you can get. He acts like he is too good for the rest of us."

Then, when Juan tries to re-join the rest of the bachelors, David declares: "Juan, go back inside. We are talking about you."

The next episode of "The Bachelorette" airs Monday, June 1 at 8 p.m. on ABC.

The 16 remaining men are:

Brad, 27, financial advisor from Chicago, IL.
David, 27, trucking contractor from Dayton, OH.
Ed, 29, technology consultant from Chicago, IL.
Jake, 31, commercial pilot from Dallas, TX.
Jesse, 27, wine maker from Carmel Valley, CA.
Juan, 35, general contractor from Santa Monica, CA.
Kiptyn, 31, business developer from Encinitas, CA.
Mark, 26, pizza entrepreneur from Denver, CO.
Michael, 25, break dance instructor from Astoria, NY.
Mike, 28, baseball camp owner from New York, NY.
Reid, 30, realtor from Philadelphia, PA.
Robby, 25, bartender from Spring, TX.
Sasha, 27, oil and gas consultant from Tiki Island, TX.
Tanner F., 28, sales representative from Derby, KS.
Tanner P., 30, financial analyst from Dallas, TX.
Wes, 32, musician from Austin, TX.

Chris Harrison blogs 'The Bachelorette': Episode 3

We have a lot to deal with this week... Dave's rage, Tanner's fetish, my lack of love for cars, and so much more. Seattle_Girl, Cynthia, and all the other car enthusiasts, I honestly don't know what kind of car Jillian was driving. It could've been a VW bug for all I know. Somebody thinks it's a '71 Challenger, so lets go with that. Sorry, never been a car guy. Last week I owned up to the fact that my grammar ain't that swell, but the poor grammar on the date card during the race for Jillian is not on me. I will fire the intern who was responsible for that. I'm sure they can find another job in this terrific economy. Denise, I apologize for the terrible picture and my chipmunk cheeks here on the blog. Not sure where these pics come from; guess I should look into that. Last week I also told you that we just wrapped production, which confused many of you since we showed video of Jillian in what appeared to be a final rose ceremony in episode one. Before every season we take the Bachelor or Bachelorette out for publicity shots and video. That's where that shot of Jillian in that dress came from. Another subject that seems to be stirring up rumors and stories is why, for the first time, production went so long. I'd love to give you something really juicy and controversial but here's the boring truth: We had 30 dudes to deal with this season and it just took that long to get it all done. Told you it was boring. Plus, we thought it would fool the folks at CIA headquarters!

Many of you asked to see more Ed. Well, ask and you shall receive. He got the first solo date with Jilli this week. If you liked Ed before, I'm guessing you love him even more now. Is it just me, or was that the slowest zip cord ride ever? Jillian told me she wanted to go faster but they wouldn't let them. Now on to the group date, or as I like to call it, the Western Porn. (Sorry to all the porn stars reading this; your acting skills are a little better than that of our bachelors.) Tanner P, I'm sorry man, that outfit we gave you was just wrong. Brad's kiss... was it "ultra bad ass" or ultra awkward? The Brokeback Mountain scene... let's just move on. Jillian was a little freaked out by all the kissing scenes but dealt with it. Just know that she wasn't that happy about all that. David's rage begins to build, level 1! Sasha got the other individual date. This was a dream date for Jillian... unlike me she loves cars. It really seemed like things were going well between them but Jillian just wasn't feeling it and with so many guys left, if she could eliminate one then, it just made life that much easier. Jillian told me she was really concerned about his lack of relationship experience. He's never been in love and that's something she wants her partner to have experienced. Did we really send him home on a city bus?  What, we couldn't find a short yellow school bus at that hour?

Let's talk about Wes and his golden guitar of love. Please give me your thoughts on this because I have to admit, it's wearing on me a little bit. Jilli says it melted her heart (her words not mine). She has a weak spot for live country music, especially when she's being serenaded. Apparently this is many girls' fantasy. Is that true? The cocktail party begins with Dave's rage quickly building to level 3. Interesting when you think back to the sweet, innocent, shy Dave that got the first impression rose. Oh geez, Juan interrupts Dave's time with Jilli... Rage now at level 6! We leave the rage-fest for my favorite part of this episode and maybe the season: Tanner P's toe suck dance. I'm sorry did he just say, "I'm here to suck on some toes and meet some Jillian"? You can't think this guy is creepy cause he's too damn funny. Uh-oh, David's rage meter now up to level 8! Dave was extremely rude and condescending to Juan. I can't believe Juan was able to keep his cool as well as he did. As you heard some of the other guys also feel Juan is a bit insincere, they just don't threaten him with death. This is where it's really tough for me as the host/friend. In the deliberation room, I could clearly see Jillian had a small clue as to what was going on but at this point she obviously doesn't know or see everything. We've always maintained that the Bachelor/Bachelorette needs to find things out and judge for themselves. I try to lead her as best I can and give her direction, but this is her journey and her decisions. Don't worry, Jillian's not an idiot, and she's a great judge of character.  I have more to tell you about this but can't at this time. Obviously this situation is far from over, as Juan and Dave both got roses. I will enlighten you as we continue.

I think we all learned some valuable lessons this week: The correct use of your and you're...I don't know about or care about cars, but Jillian does... These guys can't act... What a toe suck dance looks like, and whatever you do in this life, don't ever, ever fake a shot. Now as my angry man Dave would say, have a great week and "stop being a cheese-ass."

Bachelorette Blog: Ed Sweeps Jillian Off Her Feet

In week 3, Jillian shares a few “awkward” kisses, goes over the edge (literally) with Ed and gets is blown away by Robbie D’s acting chops.

Hey Guys! Wow! Am I alone in saying that was one of the craziest episodes ever! (And somehow I think that won’t be the last time I say that) with all the romance, drama and kissing, and my first tears … even my head was spinning when I watched it!

At the time, I remember there being some tension in the house, but not that much! Remember — anything that I don’t see — I don’t know about… so I had no idea of the magnitude of conflict that was going on. It’s times like those that I really wish I had a secret little camera to get the inside scoop. That way I would have stormed right in there and put a stop to all that nonsense.

On to a more positive topic … the dates this week were over the top… literally! My date with Ed was truly the definition of “living on the edge.” At the time, Ed seemed so easy-breezy about going over the edge of that building, but he later revealed to me that he was a nervous wreck! The best part about Ed moving into the house was his house attire — Ed would lounge around the mansion like he owned the place, wearing a silk robe and cucumber eye masks (and later on, drinking blended margaritas at 8 a.m. with Robbie!)

For the record, some of the kisses on the western date were really awkward (sorry guys!). But I totally appreciated how the guys were all really going for it, and I had fun being a good sport! I am so not an actress, so the scene work was nerve-racking for me. It wasn’t until the last scene that Robbie D was finally able to calm my nerves a bit. He put me at ease, and dealt with his scene with such class. I was really proud of him, and had a blast acting with him. That’s why I gave him the rose.

Actually, thinking back, I was also very proud of Tanner for sporting that ridiculous costume. The poor guy was last to be “outfitted,” and that was all that was left He was such a good sport about it — even when I made fun of his furry chaps.

That week, unfortunately, ended with me having to deny Sasha the rose on our date. This was an extremely hard situation for me. I knew at the time, there were other men in the house that were “less perfect” for me, but I also knew it wasn’t fair to keep Sasha if I didn’t feel the connection. Sasha is such a great guy, and I was touched by all that he shared regarding his accident. Still, I wanted to be fair, and that meant ending the date with disappointment for both of us.

Thank you again, for tuning in every week. As time goes on I can promise you even more romance, laughter, adventure and yes… even more kissing … (sigh)

Yours truly,
Jilly

The Bachelorette Episode Recap: June 1, 2009

In this week's episode, the guys film a Western, crazy David confronts calculating Juan, and Wes somehow manages to yet again work in the song he wrote for Jillian.

Welcome back to the Bachelorette recap. With me as always is my lovely and opinionated fiancée, whose enthusiasm for the show is waning, because this week's episode was so long and kind of boring. So, to begin:

The episode begins with a typical Bachelorette one-on-one date (helicopter, rappelling from a skyscraper, hot tub, booze) that ends with Jillian giving Ed a rose. Then a bunch of the guys go on a group date that requires them to film a Western with Jillian.

We have to assume her suitors include a lot of good actors — you know, guys pretending they want to win the Bachelorette when they actually just want to be the next Bachelor — but you can't tell from their performances in the Western. Some highlights:

— The script calls for Jillian to kiss lots of the guys. Michael describes Brad and Jillian's kiss as "one of the most awkward tings I've seen two people do together."

— Robby the bartender says he hasn't had a girlfriend in two years and hasn't kissed a girl in a long time, thus earning the second official nickname of the Bachelorette recap.

Fiancée: What a Prudence Merriweather.

The first nickname, of course, belongs to Daniel Plainview. For an explanation click here.

Prudence and Jillian share a kiss. On a scale of 1 to 10, he ranks it a 50. (As an aside, if you're going to ignore the scale, why not go for 60? Or even 70? Jillian says her kiss with Prudence was the one sincere kiss of the day.)

Country singer Wes steals Jillian away and says he doesn't want to watch her kiss other guys. "Not that you're cheating. I mean you sort of are," he says, accusing her of cheating before they're even together for the second time in the season's three episodes. Jillian says it's sweet that Wes is a little bit jealous.

Next, everyone goes to a typical Bachelorette party. (Rooftop, hot tub, booze.) Reid hangs out with Jillian and isn't sure whether to kiss her. Just as he tries, Juan shows up. The show plays Matador music. Get it? Because his name's Juan. Muy racista!

Juan talks to Jillian. Cut to David saying he'd like to kill Juan. What? On a 1 to 10 scale of craziness, this merits a 50. Or, heck. A 60.

Fiancée: Ohmigod, David would like kidnap her and throw her in a shed.

Me: Wes's possessiveness is okay, but David's is scary?

Fiancée: Sure. Wes wrote her a song. That excuses everything.

Everyone hangs out in a hot tub on the rooftop. Tanner P., the foot fetishist, goes off on how great Jillian's feet are. He starts kissing them. Later, in a supposedly unrelated development, Jillian and Robby get out of the hot tub. The other 30 or so guys hang out in the hot tub together as she gives Robby a rose. Then Jillian plays the guys the film of the Western they've filmed, saying it seems like some of them forgot they were on camera during filming.

Jill, I promise: None of these potential Bachelors ever forget they're on camera.

Next, Daniel Plainview gets a one-on-one date. He wins the best mixed metaphor of the night by saying he considers himself a wolf. Most people stay "in line," he says, while he's "always looking for that mythical unicorn." Here are some of the reasons this is a ridiculous thing to say:

— Wolves are pack animals, known for never hunting alone.

— Unicorns, as Daniel Plainview notes, are not real.

— Even if unicorns were real, there is no mythology that involves then being hunted by wolves; additionally, no one fantasizes about being hunted and disemboweled by their partner. Unless they're dating crazy David.

Meanwhile, back at the house, Wes notes that he has more on the line than the other guys because he's written Jillian a song. This is a great point that totally helps him make the case that he isn't just here to help his music career. No it doesn't.

Next, Daniel Plainview takes pictures of Jillian at an automotive museum. She stretches out across the cars in her bare feet. Tanner P., if he really is a foot fetish and isn't just using a middle-of-the-road fetish to differentiate himself and become the next Bachelor, must be soooooo mad right now. Daniel Plainview reveals he was in a tragic accident several years ago: He flew out the window of a truck that later landed on him.

Jillian: That's crazy!

Fiancée: Jillian's eyes are glazing over, and I can't tell if it's because she's bored or because she's drunk.

Jillian insists she was very moved by Plainview's tragedy.

Fiancée: Do you think she's ejecting him or he's staying?

Me: Staying out of pity.

Jillian: [Daniel Plainview] is a great person.

Fiancée: See? He's going home.

Plainview says he's told three ladies in his life that he's loved them, twice in high school and once in college. Then he brings up the mythical unicorn again.

Me: Jillian, please! You're from Canada. You know about wolves not hunting unicorns —

Jillian: That next chapter [in life] is so profound and so huge, it's like going out and finding a unicorn —

Fiancée: There's no way she's down with the unicorn thing. I would bet my life that she cuts him. She looks as bored as I would be if I had to date this guy.

Again back at the house, Wes plays all the guys the song he wrote for Jillian. The guys are extremely unenthusiastic. One or two other guys play some songs as well.

Tanner P: The guys playing guitar, I'm not sure what their agendas are. Are they here to win over Jillian or win over America?

Either way, the song has won over my fiancée.

Me: Does it bother you that the song only has a beginning, not a middle or ending, and that he just keeps singing the first line?

Fiancée: They don't have time for him to play the whole song. The show is only nine hours.

Back at the museum, Plainview talks about Jillian mothering his children and Jillian decides it's time to send him home.

Jillian: I wish I could be that unicorn he's looking for, but I'm not.

Props, Jillian! She sends him home — on a bus. And so Daniel Plainview becomes the first guy to go on a group date and not get a rose.

And then: Oh boy. When everyone is asleep, Wes goes and stands under Jillian's bedroom window and again sings her the beginning of his song.

Fiancée: Why is he performing in the terrible fleece? He's fine. Sing it bare-chested!

Jillian invites Wes upstairs to finish the song. If it has an ending. He goes upstairs.

Wes: I'm gonna play it again.

Me: See? He has to just start over again and again and open he's conveniently interrupted.

Fiancée: I'm liking this song. I think my favorite part is the beginning.

Later, Jillian and the guys get together for a cocktail party. Jillian pulls aside David for a long-awaited heart-to-heart, and then Juan appears to pull her away.

Fiancée: Juan is such a [expletive] [expletive]

Me: Okay, fine, but David's nuts.

Juan teaches Jillian to say "I think you're marvelous" in Spanish. Jillian says Juan seems to be on the show for her, and not the wrong reasons, which is code for "to promote a music career." She says Juan is always a gentleman and attentive.

Later, she talks to Tanner P., who talks about his love of feet, and tells Jillian that he, unlike the other guys, is there for the right reasons. Jillian says she feels comfortable with Tanner P. despite his foot fetish.

David complains about how much he dislikes Juan, which freaks everyone else out.

Ed: Dave's a little unstable right now.

Reid: He looks like he's about to kill someone.

David tells Brad that Juan is here for the "wrong reasons" — secret code for, "maybe you don't have one-third of a song to promote, but you are trying to be the next Bachelor or something."

Standing outside, David challenges other guys to tell Jillian that Juan is terrible. Juan walks into the conversation, and David tells him to go inside, because he's talking about him. Juan turns and leaves, like a non-wolf. No unicorns for you.

Fiancée: Juan is kind of a wuss. But I think more than that he's smart. Because those other guys, particularly Dave, are drunk and delusional.

Juan appears outside again, sans Matador music. David tells him to go back inside.

David: You're 35 years old, bro. Stop being a cheese ass and be yourself.

Juan looks stunned. Sweet bartender Prudence says he agrees with David "about a 100 percent." Wait, is David right? Prudence's support lends David some credibility.

Me: David is the only interesting part of the show.

Fiancée: I like that he might legitimately kill someone. That's compelling television.

Jillian, talking to the great Chris Harrison, says she thinks Juan is a bit more "calculating" than the other guys. Then the guys line up, and Jillian gives roses to:

Jake, Prudence, Mark, Jesse, Tanner P, Wes, Juan, Michael, Kiptyn, Mike —

Chris: Gentemen, it's the final rose tonight —

And it goes to David.

Me: So good for the show.

Fiancée: I hope the producers are only milking the Juan-David dispute (along with Wes' supposed jealousy and Tanner P.'s rather pedestrian fetish) to lend excitement to an otherwise boring show and that Juan isn't in real danger.

David hugs Jillian.

Fiancée: His reaction's cute! He actually likes her.

Tanner F. and Brad go home.

On a scale of 1 to 10, we rank this episode a 5. No need to go off the scale, thanks.

Next week: Someone claims other dudes on the show have girlfriends.

ABC Press Release

IT'S MAKE OR BREAK TIME AS JILLIAN INVITES THE REMAINING BACHELORS
TO HER HOMETOWN OF VANCOUVER, ON ABC'S "THE BACHELORETTE"

A Dramatic Two-on-One Date Guarantees One Man a Ticket Home

Are There Really Bachelors Who Have Girlfriends Waiting for Them?

"Episode 504" - Jillian goes home to Vancouver and the 13 remaining bachelors excitedly follow her, all anxious that they fit in with her lifestyle. In a true Canadian adventure, Jillian invites a group of the men on a competitive curling date, but only the winning team gets to join her for a romantic sunset cruise around the city of Vancouver. Kiptyn is the lucky man to receive an intimate one-on-one date and a home-cooked meal back at Jillian's place. But the dreaded two-on-one date involves two very different bachelors vying for the one rose and ends on a snow-covered mountain with one man being sent home heartbroken. However, when one of the bachelors discloses to Jillian that some of the men supposedly have girlfriends back home, she demands the truth from those bachelors, throwing the rose ceremony into turmoil, on "The Bachelorette," MONDAY, JUNE 8 (8:00-10:02 p.m., ET), on the ABC Television Network.

Jillian's first one-one-one date in Canada goes to Kiptyn, who caught her attention right from the start. They share a very romantic evening, kayaking to Jillian's favorite market to pick up all the ingredients for the home cooked meal she will prepare for the two of them. Back at her place, the couple has a serious conversation about love, and Kiptyn reveals a flaw that has hindered him in past relationships. Is there a rose in his future?

As Vancouver gears up to host the 2010 Winter Olympics, ten men go on an Olympic sports date that is inherently Canadian -- competitive curling. But the losing team goes back to the hotel, while the winners join Jillian on a real crabbing boat for a picturesque sunset cruise around the city. Each of the five men tries his best to charm the Bachelorette, but one man's attempt at flirting ends up an embarrassing disaster. Jillian finally gives a rose to the man who truly impressed her on the date.

Both men on the two-on-one date are extremely anxious as they meet Jillian at beautiful Stanley Park. The trio is whisked away in a helicopter for stunning city views, landing at Grouse Mountain, where a snowball fight relieves some of the tension. Each bachelor takes a different tack with Jillian at dinner: one acts like he's on a one-on-date with the Bachelorette and lays his heart on the line, and the other, feeling like a third wheel, decides to hold back and relies on his ability to make Jillian laugh to keep him in the hunt for her heart. In the end, she gives one man a rose and the other, crushed, is sent back down the mountain and home.

At the dramatic cocktail party, Jillian is in for some stunning news. One bachelor reveals that some of the guys may have girlfriends waiting for them at home. Shocked and tearful, Jillian abruptly cancels the rest of the party, and tempers flare among the men as they're left to contemplate her accusations. In the deliberation room, Chris Harrison offers to help Jillian find out the truth, but he also warns her that she may not be happy with what she learns. What if it turns out to be someone she's really falling for? At the rose ceremony Chris gives the men a chance to tell Jillian the truth. What happens when she hears what they have to say, and how will it affect whom she decides to give roses to?

The 13 remaining men are:
David, 27, trucking contractor from Dayton, OH.
Ed, 29, technology consultant from Chicago, IL.
Jake, 31, commercial pilot from Dallas, TX.
Jesse, 27, wine maker from Carmel Valley, CA.
Juan, 35, general contractor from Santa Monica, CA.
Kiptyn, 31, business developer from Encinitas, CA.
Mark, 26, pizza entrepreneur from Denver, CO.
Michael, 25, break dance instructor from Astoria, NY.
Mike, 28, baseball camp owner from New York, NY.
Reid, 30, realtor from Philadelphia, PA.
Robby, 25, bartender from Spring, TX.
Tanner P., 30, financial analyst from Dallas, TX.
Wes, 32, musician from Austin, TX.

The Bachelorette Episode Recap: June 8, 2009

In tonight's episode, crazy David gets too comfortable, Jake pulls back, and Tanner tells Jillian some of the other guys have girlfriends.

Hi, and welcome back to the Bachelorette recap. This was a pretty solid episode, especially at the end, so my lovely fiancée and I, your regular re-cappers, will dive right in.

The episode begins with everyone relocating from Los Angeles to Vancouver, which the magnificent Chris Harrison describes as Jillian's hometown. But it seems that Chris has been forced to take part in some conspiracy to promote Vancouver, because Jillian, according to her official ABC bio, is actually from Peace River, Alberta. Which is 850 miles away from Vancouver, in another province.  (Province is Canada-talk for "state.")

Jillian welcomes the guys to The Coov (in this recap Vancouver will be known as The Coov) and informs them that it is the site of the 2010 Winter Olympic Games. She goes on a one-on-one date with Kiptyn which consists of kayaking to a market and buying food that Jillian prepares for dinner.

Jillian: That's every girl's dream. For her to be in the kitchen, and sort of hot and flustered because she's so worried if the meal turned out right or wrong and her guy comes and kisses her on... part of the neck.

[Awkward pause.]

Me: That doesn't seem like a very feminist ideal.

Fiancee: No, that is indeed every girl's dream — every woman's dream.

Me: But what about being treated equally?

Fiancee: Nope. Only Monday through Friday. On the weekends I want my apron ripped off next to a hot stove.

Me: But I got us tickets for the Vagina Monologues this weekend.

Kiptyn mentions that he's not used to pursuing people, so he ends up with people who pursue him. The fiancée and I agree that he doesn't seem excited about her. They kiss, she gives him a rose, and somewhere, Gloria Steinem weeps.|

All the guys except Mark and Mike, who've been chosen for a two-on-one date, compete in a curling competition. Curling may sound mysterious to American audiences, so let me explain: It's kind of like pétanque, but on ice. (Pétanque, of course, is a form of boules.)

While the other guys curl, Michael, the breakdancer, gets cuddly with Jillian. Throughout the curling, Jillian wears a The Coov 2010 sweatshirt. The team that includes pilot Jake and potentially violent David wins. She takes them on a boat as a reward.

Once on the boat, Jill tells Jake he seems perfect. Jake discloses that he's not. He later confesses to viewers that he was somewhat taken aback by the conversation: "I honest to God am not sure what she's looking for."And so he becomes the second guy of the episode who is maybe possibly less into Jillian than she is into him, Kiptyn being the first.

Later, Jillian talks to David, who is best known for repeatedly threatening to beat or kill Juan, who he regards as overly suave or fake or something. Jillian says that tonight, she wants to see his gentlemanly side. David discloses to Jillian that "her ass is faaaaan-tastic."

Jillian: When David and I are really comfortable he gets a little too comfortable with me.

David next expresses a certain fondness for Jillian's ****. We don't know what **** are because the show beeped it, but we're pretty sure it refers to her "pétanques."

David: I think she is into me.

Next, Jillian gives a rose to Jesse, saying he's someone she got off to a slow start with. Bachelorette obsessives take note: In an interview with TVGuide.com's own Matt Mitovich, she mentioned that the guy she ultimately chooses could well be someone with whom she had a slow start.

Next, Mark and Mike go with Jillian on the two-on-one date. Mike is more aggressive, while Mark, a pizza entrepreneur, is more shy. He likens himself to a quarterback behind a line of defensemen. My fiancée, who has fallen in love with him, in a not-going-to-break-off-our-engagement kind of way, describes him as "a puppy in a bag of marshmallows, with saggy, velvety fur." That means she thinks his nervousness is cute. Jillian gives a rose to the sweet schloopy puppy dog.

Later, at the cocktail party, Jillian talks to Reid, another guy my fiancée thinks is cute. Reid says he wants to kiss Jillian, but she says first he has to ask a random question. He asks about her first crush, and she says it was a guy named Vincent who sang a song to her. Reid worries that this means Wes has the advantage, since he's written her a song and played her the first line 11 million times. Reid also says Wes is only here for his career. My fiancée says Reid is her favorite. He may also be my favorite.

Next, talking to Jake, Jillian tells him she recognizes he's been "pulling back." He says he wants to make clear that he's being himself, and isn't pretending to be perfect. "If you're looking for a boy, you've got that too," he says. "You've got a whole room full of boys."

Tanner later pulls Jillian aside to tell her some of the guys have said they have girlfriends. But he won't say who they are. She says she understands, and hugs him. She then tells the guys she's heard some disturbing news and that the cocktail party is off.

Prudence Merriweather is very angry the cocktail party is canceled before he got to talk to Jillian. It's unclear whether he's mad at the guys who have girlfriends or the guy who ratted out the guys who have girlfriends.

Jillian, talking to Chris, joins in the pro-Coov conspiracy by calling The Coov "my hometown." She and Chris agree to confront the guys.

As Chris, Jillian, and the guys gather together, Jake says he would be "really, really pissed" if he found out that one of the guys had a girlfriend. David, meanwhile, is really, really pissed that someone "is snitchin'." He of course blames Juan and urges Jillian to cut the person who snitched. No one admits having a girlfriend, or snitching.

Tanner P, the snitch, accuses Juan of looking at him.

Tanner P: Juan, you better stop looking at me right now.

Juan says he's just looking around.

Me: This has gotten pretty good.

Fiancee: Mmm-hmmm.

Me: Do you think he should have ratted them out?

Fiancee: Yeah. I think he was trying to help.

So, apparently, does Jillian. She gives roses to Reid, Prudence Merriweather, Ed, Michael, Wes, Jake, and, finally, Tanner P.

Archrivals Juan and David are sent home. Juan is really classy about leaving. David says he feels pretty wronged, and he suspects, wrongly, that Juan "threw me under the bus."

Let it go, dude. Shouldn't have mentioned the ****.

Next week: Tanner says Wes has a girlfriend. But does he tell Jillian? And an incredible game of pétanque: Coov style. No, not really.
