Frat boys, unbelievably, retrace each step, counting.

Phil: Kelly/Christy, you're team #5.

Aja/Ty finish the cargo net, as do Marissa/Brooke

Phil: Toni/Dallas, you're team #6.

Frats count steps as they crawl up on hands and knees. Drummers follow them step by step.
Hippies see them crawling as they proceed down the cargo net.
Frats still counting, past 50 now ...
Drummer: How many steps:
Answer: 53
Drummer: YES.
CLUE: Make your way to the pitstop.
They haul ass for a taxi as the hippies finish the cargo net and get their CLUE.

Teams get on the boat and head to the fort.

Phil: Andrew/Dan, you're team #7.
Aja/Ty, you're team #8.

The local juggles at the Bathmat.

Phil: Anthony/Stephanie, you're team #9. Marisa/Brooke, you're team #10.

Phil: Anita/Arthur, you are the last team to arrive.
Anita: We had hoped.
Phil: Sorry to tell you, you've both been eliminated from the Race.
Anita: We gave it all we had. We'll take that back to our kids, friends and family. We tried.
Arthur: The race for me was doing this with Anita and 10 other couples, a privilege.

NEXT TIME ON .. THE AMAZING RACE:

Phil: Mark/Bill look for some charity ...
A funny-face red light turns green, as Racers in 2 taxis look on.
Mark: We're about to have a footrace with an NFL player!

Phil: ... And an alliance begns to ruffle feathers.
Looks like Terence/Sarah/Ken/Tina ... I'll check later.
Tina: And they didn't even say 'hi' to us!

Just watched it...Nick and Starr is definitely the team to beat. Easy to like them as well. Nick is smart and confident, Starr bright and beautiful. Nice alliance with the other team they called Dad/Mum. They could win this easily.

I like Nick & Starr and Kelly & Christy.  Not so fond of Terrence.  Andrew & Dan are going to be worth some laughs as they keep making mistake after mistake.

Too bad about Anita & Arthur, but we all knew their elimination was coming.

mswood, I think it may be Nick and Starr that ally with Ken and Tina. In one of the taxi rides, they debated the desirability of hooking up with "mom and dad" and again ono the cargo netting they talked about Ken and Tina as "mom and dad". I expect that they pursued that at the pitstop where Ken and Tina came in behind them in 2nd place.

as i lay awake last night....

i was thinking i wish that the premiere could be at least 90 minutes.  There is so much happening in that first episode you never bond with anyone and it would have been nice to have gotten to hear more from anita and arthur the other teams seemed to like them.

plus i loved last seasons because a sucky team got eliminated first.

and where were the animals, oh give me a stubborn donkey in every opener.

I have a new topic for all to think about. It is alliances and how they impact an Amazing Race. My raw material really comes from Amazing Race Asia 3 ep. 3 in the coins task, but it applies to AR13 as well since some teams are forming them.

I think that the sharing of a result like the coins order in the tray by Bernie/Henry when they left should not be allowed to be shared. Part of the fun of an Amazing Race is to have teams forced to deal with unusual situations. if they can have an alliance partner provide them with an instant answer, it is much less interesting for us viewers. I definitely feel that any physical challenges should involve no helping by other teams. The one that comes to mind is Uchenna in London helping Meredith and Gretchen with a heavy boat shell. What do you think?

While I am on my soapbox, let's go for the daily double. This one is about speeding in car driving tasks on the Amazing Race. There has been a history of going way over the speed limit in all Amazing Races and in all Amazing Race Asias. The only time I can recall that a team was given major punishment was in New Zealand between Dunedin and Queenstown in ARA1 to Andy driving about 50 km/hour above the limit. An even better example is Rob Mariano in AR7 on the way to thte San Juan Airport. He started well behind Uchenna, but finished slihgtly ahead. How did this happen? Simple, he broke the speed limit.  In AR13 ep.1 I saw Ken Greene be the worst of the many speeders. I don't know how fast he was going, but probably in the neighborhood of 80 mph. The local police will be able to catch and ticket almost nobody, so that has not worked. Enforcement should be the responsibility of the sound-man on the 2 person camera/sound team that accompanies all teams. If they were required to assure that no team goes over the speed limit, then the dangerous high-speed driving that we observe will almost diasppear.
