#5 is probably Salvador - the triangular peninsula fits just about where the Mansao Professor Pedro Calmon building would be...?

Missing Leg

oh happy days  :wohoo:

Actually, according to my timeline we have 2 missing legs. Some have assumed there will be 2 in Moscow. That may or may not be so and my guess is probably not.

got it!
I'm not putting this in spoilers, cos I have been able to find NO collaborating info apart from a  similar post with nothing to back it up at jokersupdates. Do others also believe it's just idle speculation, or is there a very remote possibility that there could be something to it?

Found here

There are numerous reports that The Amazing Race is now filming season 13....*snip*....(Reportedly they were seen filming in Kazakhastan recently.)
Let me set the record straight. I was not the first to hypothesize on Kazakhstan being a possibility. However, I have consistently been its champion. Also, I identified Almaty as the most likely city to host a pitstop.

Separately, how do all of those commenting in this thread prior to 5am get the energy? I am still recovering from 6 hours of jet lag, but even so I am never up in the wee hours to do all of what I discovered this morning.

You miss one day, you miss a lot. Promo!  :yess: :yess: :yess:

And in regards to the Coliseum, yes, LA Memorial Coliseum and Coliseum are the same, Peach.

Third straight start in LA.

The Coliseum is only used for USC football (and the S2 season finale of 24, another show I'm obsessed with). Good to use for the start. Plenty of room and a lot of twisty roads to get to LAX.
Just here to visit.

This may be #9 - 18th century Kazakh warrior

Insert is a clip from the Kazakh movie "Nomad The Warrior".  A film based on some of the history of Kazakhstan in the early 1800's.  Horned helmet is a match.  Other details are consistant with Kazakh warriors of that period.

Edited to add: Nomad: The Warrior film trailer (movie)

Regarding the LA Coliseum:  Given Bert's penchant over the seasons to route the Race through Olympic Stadiums and sites, I'm actually surprised it took this long for TPTB to use the Coliseum, which hosted the Opening and Closing Ceremonies for both the 1932 and 1984 Summer Olympic Games.

Technical note: Emporis has made a mashup with Google maps; type in a city and you'll get a map on one side and a list of notable buildings on the other side. A time-saver.
The reason I mention it is because I found it while trying to spot the Instrument museum without much luck; according to this album (taken 09 May, Victory Day), it's somewhere near a large square and a soldier's memorial.

I found this Slowhatch if it helps:

Quote
The Museum of National Musical Instruments is located on the edge of Panfilov Park, close to Zenkov Cathedral, and is located in the building, called the House of Officers, which in the last century was used by military officers for their meetings.

also: Address: Kazybek bi Street
Directions: Across the road from the Glory Memorial in Panfilov Park

I found the actual website last night right before I lost Internet, but haven't found it again yet...  :res:

Did a slightly more detailed comparison between Mystery City and Salvador on Google Earth...

(A) matches up with a patch of green as the Praca Santo Antonio da Barra, and (B), where there is a distinct lack of skyscrapers, sits where a flyover intersection is in Salvador. (C) is a building parallel to the coastline sitting on a vegetated knoll, matching up with the one on Rua do Cristo. And (D), previously identified as Mansao Professor Pedro Calmon, matches up exactly with where it should be in Salvador, along Rua Sabino Silva.
