An interesting article more about Jesse James:

Jesse James Stars For Schools

An area business owner and celebrity will attempt to raise money in support of local schools on an upcoming reality television show.

Jesse James, owner of West Coast Choppers, a custom motorcycle and car shop in west Long Beach, and its nearby eatery Cisco Burger, is slated to be a contestant on NBC’s “Celebrity Apprentice 2,” where he has pledged to raise money for the Long Beach Education Foundation (LBEF).

“Over the years I have watched Long Beach’s Industrial Arts programs go down hill,” James wrote in an e-mail. “The (classes) get less and less money and most are shut down. These are classes that kids want to take. Somebody needed to step up and do something to give these kids the opportunity to learn some skills.”

It was in classes such as these that James said he became aware of his talents. He attributes his success to an encouraging and influential teacher he had in high school.

James, who went to high school at Millikan in Long Beach and La Sierra in Riverside, has already set up an account with the foundation, donating $60,000 to start the fund last month, according to Judy Seal, executive director of the LBEF. This endeavor will be the first of its kind for the foundation, she said.

“He wants to have a hands-on approach where he visits classrooms and meets with students and teachers to discuss how additional funding might help,” she continued. “….Jesse wants to identify the students’ needs and teachers’ desires relative to the goals of the classroom.”

The donation, which LBEF President-Elect Mike Murray said was one of the larger gifts the organization has ever received, will go toward paying for industrial-arts classes such as auto shop and welding at both the middle school and high school level.

“I think in today’s economy, to take kids who are motivated and talented in an area and to take the example of Jesse James and what he has accomplished in a vocational field, couldn’t be better,” Murray said.

In 2008, the LBEF raised more than $1 million for the school district. Its sole purpose, according to Murray, is to ensure that every student in the district receives the education he or she needs to succeed.

“Celebrity Apprentice 2” will air at 9 p.m. Sunday, March 1, on NBC. James, who has cultivated on-camera experience on such shows as “Motorcycle Mania” and “Monster Garage,” currently is shooting episodes of “Jesse James is a Dead Man” for Spike TV.

“He’s such a part of Long Beach,” Murray said. “The synergy of it (the partnership) and the win-win of it is amazing.”

Annie Duke's Blog:

Celebrity Apprentice

January 15, 2009 12:42 AM

Well...it's announced.  I am on Celebrity Apprentice. It is true.  I can't go into any detail, of course, about how the show goes but whatever happens to me that show always raises a ton for charity so that is why I did the show.  Before I decided that I would be on it, I had no idea that the show raised over $1 million for charity last year.  When I went to my first meeting with them we were discussing the show and how it worked and then the EP just came out with that million dollar figure and I was like oh wow that is pretty amazing.  Regardless of whether or not my charity would benefit, being part of raising a million dollars for any charity would be a pretty amazing experience. So, of course, when they offered me the show I had to agree because that is a crazy amount of money for a bunch of good causes.

Okay...you are going to have to watch the show to find out how I do.  Just know I took it really seriously because once I get involved in something I definitely study up on the game and try to play it well.  Tha tbeing said, they did divide us into men vs women which was a very bad draw for me because, to be fair, I am a poker player and have spent the greater part of my adult life interacting only with men and men who spend all fo their time needling each other at that.  I eman we are not talking about a business where people worry about hurting other peoples' feelings. The people I deal with are direct and blunt and that style of communication does not necessarily go over well in a room full of women.  So I go into the season with a very bad draw in terms of the interpersonal thing.  There ya go.  I don't relate well to girls (except my own daughters but to be fair they really have my type of personality).

Okay...on to some other stuff.  Maud and I had a humongous fight this week and I am really struggling with dealing with a 13 yr old girl.  Man, I must have really tortured my mom.  We have made up now but boy it was a bad one.  So bad I had to call her Dad to get him involved.  it can be so hard because she is so bright and talented and sweet underneath all that teenage angst and teenage I have to hate my mother obviously.  And trying to sit back and be the adult and just understnd what is going on and how hard it is to be a teenager and all that can be so damn hard...so really really hard.

Nelly smashed her face on the cement at school this week and ended up with the hugest fat lip you have ever seen. She would have made Lisa Rinna jealous.  She was every insecure LA girl's dream.  She knocked a couple of teeth loose but luckily they were all baby teeth.  Poor thing.  She could only swallow liquids for a few days and she is already the skinniest thing you have ever seen.

All right...getting ready for Sundance this weekend then next week is Leo's 11th birthday!

An interesting article an interview with Natalie Gulbis:

Q&A: Golfer Natalie Gulbis optimistic for 2009

Sacramento native Natalie Gulbis, 26, has big plans for 2009. Among them: winning an LPGA major championship, surviving the editing process of "Celebrity Apprentice" and getting a pro-am started locally to benefit Boys & Girls Clubs. Coming off a 56th-place finish on the LPGA Tour money list, her worst since turning pro in 2002, she's optimistic about getting her game back on track.

How's your game?

It's good. The last event I played was the Lexus Cup in December, which we won. I got to play in the Wendy's 3-Tour Challenge a week before that, so I ended the year on a good note.

Any specific goals for 2009?

Win a major.

Where will Annika Sorenstam's absence be felt most on the LPGA Tour?

Every single week on tour. Every time she played in an event, she brought something special from a fans' and sponsors' standpoint. She's the best ever to play her sport, and not having that every week means it's just not going to be the same.

What will you miss most about not having her on tour?

She's one of my best friends on tour. I was just at her wedding a week ago. I will miss seeing her and playing practice rounds with her. We have a tradition where we rented a house together for the British Open. It will different this year just not having her around.

What player makes you laugh the most over 18 holes?

Christina Kim. She's very open and honest. She says exactly what she thinks. She and Helen Alfredsson.

Of the other 15 cast members on "Celebrity Apprentice," who were you most surprised by?

Dennis Rodman, by far. When the camera was on him, he was Dennis Rodman the unpredictable entertainer. When the camera was off, we just talked about sports. We talked about the Sacramento Kings all the time.

Any anxiety over the editing process and how you might be portrayed?

Absolutely. It's a wild show. It's not the No. 1 show on NBC because it's conservative. It was wild when they shot it. The way they ended it is wild. It's a very entertaining show, and if it tells you that it's going to be exciting, it's a two-hour show for 2009 so you know they had some pretty good content. I'll be keeping an eye on things and hoping with every episode that things turn out OK.

In a Natalie Gulbis pie chart, what are the major percentages?

Fifty percent daughter and friend, 25 percent golfer, 10 percent businesswoman.

The word around Sacramento is that you're interested in hosting a one-day touring pro and celebrity-laden charity tournament here?

Yes. I had no idea how hard it was going to be. I've been working on this for three years. It's so challenging to put it all together, but the chances get better every conversation we have. I have a new team since 2009. I'm with IMG now – they're the largest sports management and marketing firm in the world. I think this team will be able to get it done. We'll have this thing on the calendar, if not in the spring, then maybe the fall in 2009.

On behalf of your Sacramento following, I would be remiss if I didn't give you an opportunity to shed some light on your romantic life. Interested?

No comment. Not interested. Not until the day I get married will it become public knowledge. It's always an ongoing challenge – you're so public as a celebrity and athlete, you work really hard to keep one thing to yourself.

Episode 2:

Each team must create and costume a comic book character, and present it to the Zappos.com executive.

From the very beginning, the project manager for the men is caught in a battle of wills with one of his teammates.

On the women’s side, one celebrity is uncomfortable in her role as the costume model, while another member of the team falls ill.

On the men’s team, personalities clash and the creative process is almost derailed.

In the end, the executive chooses the best character, and Trump fires another celebrity.

An interesting article:

DONALD TRUMPS CRANKY COMIC

THERE was barely enough room for the monster-size egos of Donald Trump and Andrew Dice Clay during the taping of the upcoming season of "Celebrity Apprentice."

The cigarette-sucking comic - whose 1980s fame faded after he made the turkey "The Adventures of Ford Fairlane" and was booted off the Howard Stern show - says he was so annoyed by Trump's swaggering personality, he referred to him on the set as "Donald Chump."

Things boiled to a head when Trump had a group meeting with his latest contestants, including Joan Rivers, Dennis Rodman, Jesse James, Brian McKnight, Khloe Kardashian, Clint Black, Tom Green, Herschel Walker, Scott Hamilton and Brande Roderick.

"We're sitting there and Trump goes: 'I'm more famous than all of you,' " Clay told a friend. "And I'm like, 'Really, you think that? You really believe that? One hundred years from now, when people are looking back, you think people will think Trump or Dice?' I get crazy from that [bleep]."

Trump declined to comment, but an insider says Clay got it all wrong - and was actually so enamored by Trump, he was eating out of the developer's hand.

"Donald was going around and kiddingly asking everyone, 'Who's the biggest star in the room?' And they all were laughing, saying, 'You are, Donald.' And then when he asked Clay the question, Clay turns to him with this adoring look and goes, 'You are, sir. Sir, you are by far the biggest star in the room,' " the witness told us. "Dice can say what he wants, but Donald really roughed that [bleep]ing guy up. Clay was like a trained little puppy dog when Donald got through with him."

The new season of "Celebrity Apprentice" premieres on March 1. Clay is expected to riff on his experiences on the show when he plays Caroline's on March 3 and 4.

The Celebrity Apprentice 2

March 15, 2009

Episode 3:

The teams are each given 125 wedding dresses to sell in an empty retail space they must design and decorate.

For the second time this season the celebrities’ rolodexes are put to the test, and both teams feel the heat as they try to get big sales lined up on short notice.

Celebrities on one team have trouble getting friends to pony up money for charity, while some on the other team have trouble just getting out of bed.

The fundraising goes down to the wire, putting one team over the top and the other team into the boardroom, where Trump fires another celebrity.

It is now 58 hours to Celebrity Apprentice 2 on NBC Sunday night at 9pm. I have seem some clips of episode 1 and it looks like one celebrity puts the arm on a more famous celebrity to support his or her cupcake sales efforts. This appears to be a return to the "whoever has the fattest Rolodex file" method of determining winning teams.
