I doubt they stay in Taipei though (two pitstops same city, prob not)

If there are no 2 pitstops in the same city, then it's a TBC???  :duno:
I notice Allan didn't say anything about good bye to a team. Hmm.

I like the TBC, Banzai... solves a few timeline issues...

BTW, there is a SOGO in the Taipei 101 Mall.  Looks like the previous pitstop at City Hall was not that far from Taipei 101.  Can the next leg's first task be to find a clue at the SOGO in the Taipei 101 Mall?  (Hours of operation of mall?)

There are several sogo stores around..

I think release will come on 5/27 NOT 5/28 banzai.

5/26 release from Pitstop  in Hue--to Taiwan>> Pitstop late eve 5/26 or early AM 5/27>>agree with next release afternoon 5/27

Does Wu mean THIS Pitstop 15 hours or the next one?

sorry--I am at work and can't play much right now... :'(

Where the car is for Allen? WHat about checking for Standard Chartered banks?

The Sogo food court that matchs the picture is the Green Sogo, I don't know what the other Sogo food courts look like, lol

Taiwan
In Taiwan, as a subsidiary of Far East Group, Pacific Sogo operates 17 stores: eight in Taiwan and nine in China (three in Shanghai, one in Beijing, two in Chengdu, two in Chongqing and one in Dalian, as of August 2007)[3].

Pacific Sogo recently found itself in the midst of a corruption scandal over gift certificates involving the family of Republic of China's President Chen Shui-Bian; the case is still under investigations as one of the accused, Wu Shu-zhen has not appeared since the first trial was held.

I don't see this the same way you do, Banzai. Allan Wu was quite clear about a 15 hour pitstop, not a 15 hour leg. The problem is that there is a lack of clarity about which pitstop he means. I see the second pitstop in Taiwan as being either a NEL(most likely) or a TBC (and stated my belief in a NEL in my latest TIMELINE revision hours ago) which will then flow to Hong Kong. I see the first pitstop as an extended hour pitstop desperately needed by the remaining teams, but I will take Allan Wu at his word that it is 15 hours and not the usual 36 hours. It will last from teams still in reaching the pitstop between midnight and 2am (fairly close to what others have observed) until probably 15 hours later at 3pm to 5pm. Teams will then do another leg somewhere in northern Taiwan. It is possible to go from Kaohsiung and I will provide information on flying from there to Hong Kong in a subsequent post, but it takes too long to get to Kaohsiung even with the fast train. Let's asssume that teams carry over tasks from May 27 to May 28 and have a pitstop sometime in the afternoon or early evening of May 28. They then fly to Hong Kong after a 12 hour NEL pitstop in Taiwan that is located probably not far from the Taipei or Kaohsiung internaitonal airports.

If its TBC or NEL why does Allan come-a-knocking? knock knock "Sorry you are the last team to arrive, however we are damn tired waiting for you at the pitstop so here is your clue or this is a NEL , proceed to Go, skip the pitstop.. keep racing"

So it's an elimination leg but 2 pitstops in the same city. This will be the first. It can be done.   :jam:

Why the same city? They have plenty of time to go elsewhere in Taiwan, don't they?

I believe I might have the answer to "why a jacket?" I went to Taiwan around 1982 and some of the places outside the Taipei area where I visited were:

Taroko Gorge (does not require a jacket)
Sun Moon Lake (does not require a jacket)
climbing up at 3am to view sunrise in the east from a mountain - this definitely requires a jacket; it was not as accessible in 1980 (and I went elsewhere) but today the premier sightseeing expedition is from Tatachia off the new Cross-Island highway and up the Jade Mountain Scenic Highway).

So my guess is that Allan has a jacket because he is going to some mountain, where maximum temperatures are typically 5 degrees C(41 degree Fahrenheit).

There are colder places in Taiwan and in fact, you can ski there. This is a direct quote from my dad who was born there.
Just here to visit.

Let's dissect this sentence a little.

Quote
And with this next pit stop lasting over fifteen hours, I was definitely going to need every single minute of our short rest before our call time.

If this Pitstop is added hours, he has more rest, and would not be worried about a short rest and needing every single minute.
If the next pitstop is 15 hours--what possible difference could that make on him needing rest now.

Consider this:
He has been up all night waiting for the last team to arrive, and the first teams out will prob be leaving in just a few more hours, so he def needs a quick rest.

Change this to :
Quote
And with this next leg lasting over fifteen hours, I was definitely going to need every single minute of our short rest before our call time.

and to me it suddenly makes a lot more sense.

And why 15 hours? A long drive to the middle or southern end of the island? I like the sound of mts but where are they on the map?

Can anyone pull up driving or train times to Kaohsiung?? But keep in mind they wouldn't have to go all the way to Kaohsiung --they could drive some distance after pitstop release the next day right?

re the jacket--he has on a dressy "I've been waiting at the Pitstop in the city" jacket to me, not a mountain climbing jacket.

What were dawn temps in Taipei on 5/27? ???

:sucks  quick check of the internet says that driving time between Taipei and Kaoshiung is approx. 5.5 hrs (but high speed rail is only 90 mins.)  so why drive?   :duno:

Thanks Boingo!

Wish we could match where that car is, that would answer a lot of questions. (hint hint hint) :funny: :funny: :funny:

Taking the high speed rail is too easy, plus we see them driving at night. I'm in Hsinchu right (1 hour drive) now so come and get me if I get lost!!

Peach,
It was a major hassle to find the schedule for the Taiwan High Speed Rail from Taipei to Zuoying, which is some km north of Kaohsiung but as far as the lien currently goes. There are trains from 0630 until midnight, but starting at 0800 a pattern is established. They are two super-expresses(only one stop in between) every :00 and :42 after each hour. There are trains that make 6 stops at :06 and :30 after every hour. The one-stop trains are 96 minutes to Zuoying and the multi-stop trains are 120 minutes. The average is clearly 108 minutes.

From Zuoying station teams can transfer unto the Kaohsiung Mass Transit system. I don't know how far apart the stops are, but there are 2 to "Kaohsiung Area", 5 to Kaohsiung Station, and 12 to Kaohsiung International Airport. It could be from 6 minutes to perhaps 40 minutes depending on where teams have to go in Kaohsiung(of course if they go there at all).

puddin:
I can save you some time in your efforts to find cities in the mountains. There aren't any in Taiwan. Only small villages exist in the mountains.

Peach,
We have been through this argument on this thread months ago. I remember that the supertrain gets from Taipei to Kaohsiung in about 100 minutes. I check it in the morning when I get home from church.

I don't remember Taiwan, maybe from TAR last year? I do remember the Hue debate, lol...
