25 hours of doing nothing? Does this mean a big massive bunching? I'll agree with you, peach that this is on the train. Remember in TAR 3 the long train ride the last three teams took in Vietnam? I believe that was around the 24/25 hour mark.

And do we get our first NEL? I'm wondering.

I guess it could still be an extended leg but the train schedules we have the earlier one is at about 16 hours I think and the later at 24-25 so I vote for train!  :jumpy: :jumpy: :jumpy:

Much better than stupid extended pitstop timewaster.

And oh boy if we can have dragon boats AND a train I'm a happy camper!

And they never openly talk or reveal anything about extended pit stops.  So I say it's the train ride you found.

Now, will they have to compete for the AC sleepers like TAR3 teams did?  poor Flo   :meow:

Not a spoiler, more like a wish, that they use the dragon boats

You might get your wish puddin!!

Look here:

http://www.igougo.com/attractions-reviews-b102752-Hue-Dragon_Boat_Trip_on_the_Perfume_River.html

Quote
Tours depart at 8am from the main wharf and return at about 4pm. There are numerous identical Dragon boats that all depart at the same time. You can be picked up from your hotel for no additional charge.
The trip visits Linh Mu (Thien Mu) pagoda, Hon Chen Temple, Tu Duc Tomb, Minh Mang Tomb and Khai Dinh Tomb spending between 45 minutes and an hour at each stop. This is definately not enough time for a true temple junkie but it is a good way to get your bearings as to the historical sites in Hue.

Both Tu Duc and Khai Dinh tombs require a moto-taxi once you get there, and the drivers are quite notorious for doubling the negotiated price for the return trip. Each site has an entry fee of between AU$1.50 and $4. Having paid $2 for the boat trip is hardly cause for complaint. A basic cooked lunch is included in the price with the option of paying for extra dishes. The boat itself is basically a decoratively covered barge with plastic garden chairs there is no commentary or guides at the sites.

and here:

http://www.virtualtourist.com/travel/Asia/Vietnam/Tinh_Thua_Thien_Hue/Hue-1481131/Transportation-Hue-BR-1.html

Quote
A dragon boat cruise down the Perfume River is the best way to see the imperial palaces, tombs and temples of Hue. It costs just 25,000 VND for an all-day cruise, starting at 8am and returning at 3pm.

A minibus will collect you from your hotel and take you to the landing stage. This is included in the price, as is a simple lunch and drink. Entrance fees are not included. Also, you will need to pay extra for a motorbike taxi to take you to any site that is not close to the river.

The route takes in Thien Mu Pagoda, Tu Duc Tomb, Hon Chen Temple, Khai Dinh Tomb and Minh Mang Tomb. The boat will drop you at the the Citadel at the end of the cruise, if you request it.

You can buy a ticket at any travel agency in Hue, including Sinh Cafe
.

so we still see two kinds of buses--a local city bus and another....where are they coming from/ going to?

Oh well, some of us are just slower than others... :groan:

But anyway, this will be a fabulous visual! Just wish I knew if they take it downstream or upstream!

SO y'all may know this already. I was looking for the bamboo matting in the Citadel and came across this little map:

http://www.orientalarchitecture.com/hue/imperialcityindex.htm

All this time I have been thinking that the Imperial Palace was ONE place, and the Citadel another.

Instead, The Forbidden Purple City is inside the Imperial Palace which is inside the Citadel.

Here is a Vietnam era military map of the Citadel as well:
http://grunt.space.swri.edu/visit/maps/Hue1.jpg

So if it is all together, WHY did Shirley see Allen Wu at the Imperial Palace?? Even though she saw  no mat there, could this be the Pitstop after all?

In which case we need to look at a much earlier arrival time, which could rule out trains.

Suppose they do Detours somewhere, Roadblock at the Tomb, and then bus back to Hue where they cyclo to the Citadel/Imperial Palace/Purple City for the PITSTOP??

Too bad we didn't have times on the tombs  because I agree now that I read back peach that its odd that Allan and crew were filming with a lot of gear when the teams were so close.

No luck with the yellow building  :'(

last ditch effort , not quite right ..

Alright, clues for next week! (Not to assume all shots are taken in the same country.)

Square characters on no-smoking sign in background (Chinese?)
Left-hand drive (rules out Hong Kong, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Japan)
"2283 JJ" as a car-plate number (rules out China, Laos)

OK brief summary of the preview:

Teams driving at night, Geoff looking at a map with green to the north and blue to the south. Looks suspiciously like India to me, but we know we're not there yet. Possibly looking at Southwest China (towards the top of supposed Indian map) then? Teams pass through a tunnel.

Restaurant with "Chinese characters" on a no-smoking sign (too many characters for a simple "No smoking" though). Teams have to eat something nasty.

Niroo (thanks TARAsia fan!) wants to give up, on the side of a road, at night.

On Taiwan,

Quote
Beginning next year, new license plates for cars will have two alphabetic letters and four digits, and scooters plates will have three alphabetic letters and three digits — and neither of them will have any fours.
From http://pinyin.info/news/2005/taiwan-to-abandon-use-of-4-on-license-plates/

The dish is served with a nice little Chinese pagoda decoration, and the restaruant walls are lined with Chinese water-paintings. Now Lao license plates have a Lao character in them, and mainland Chinese plates start with the province character. I can vouch that the restaurant is not in Hong Kong. If car plates belong in the same country as the food I would put my money on Taiwan, but if they aren't mainland China remains a big possibility.

Correction: Both Niroo and Kapil want to quit. Car troubles apparently.

Oh, and 2283 JJ is a Nissan, if that helps.

I haven't seen what you're talking about yet, but Taiwan pages are here and here: generally, it's two letters followed by four digits with the province name in chinese on top.

OK, revelation! Driving scenes show vertical neon signs, and I've only ever seen this done with Chinese characters.

Eating tasks are therefore in the same country as the driving, which precludes mainland China because of the difference in license plates - their format is exclusively [Chinese province character]X XXXXX. TAIWAN it is!

Took a photo of my TV, this is what we are looking for (a Taiwanese car plate, tunnel road markings and a Taipei taxi for comparison):

I have no clue as to where they went, but it always helps to use geography logic. I have previously identified Guangzhou, a city of 10 million people previously known as Canton and for its cuisine, as a possible place for the leg on the way to Hong Kong. Other possibilities are Wuzhou, Guilin, and Nanning. Kunming is quite a bit further off the direct line from Hue to Hong Kong but may have been the place. I have been to Wuzhou and Guilin and they are both interesting to visit.

Tiny vidcaps! (I apologize! EagleSpirit0 I'm not sure if you can pick anything out from here...)

Next, on The Amazing Race Asia...

Teams hit the roads...

Geoff: *singing* Driving on a freeway...

Geoff: *singing* We don't know where we're going!

For a challenge that will drive them over the edge... (3 o' clock? 12.15?)

Ida / Tania: Mmmpgh!

Kapil: Key's not coming out!
An unprecedented crisis...

Kapil: We. Quit.
Niroo: We want to go back home. That's all.

The flights are:

HUI HAN VN240 0820 0955 combined with HAN TPE CI684 1135 1510  OR
HUI HAN VN244 1255 1405 combined with HAN TPE CI9024 1720 2100

There is are additional flights VN246 HUE HAN 2135 2245 and BR398 1250 1635, but they don't match up well with  anything.
In Taipei, there are connecitons to Kaohsiung with nine 35 minute flights spaced throughout the waking hours.

There is also a route through Saigon VN251 0910 1030 connecting with BR392 1255 1730. It accomplishes nothing unless a team cannot make 0820 departure but could make 0910 or unless VN240 had no more Amazing Race Asia seats.

I have also looked at flights from DaNang to both Hanoi and Saigon. They do not change much.

DAD SGN VN323 1340 1450 could connect with BR396 1555 2025, which provides a 45 minute earlier arrival than the combination through Hanoi.
DAD HAN VN310 0810 0920 could connct with CI684 1135 1510. This provides no incentive to travel the extra hour to DaNang.
Similarly, DAD HAN VN314 1230 1340 could connect with CI9024 1720 2100 gives no incentive for that extra hour.

Editor's Note:The DaNang flight information was added hours after the original information.
