I have thought about a concept called a Limited Detour, where only a certain number of teams can do one side of the Detour and if a team wants to switch options, they must trade out with another team.
This is very similar to your idea.

I have some ideas:
1) a brand new task choice to the race like "Oneway" where one team chooses another team to do an extra additional task that will slow them down.  This is not the same as the U-Turn which involves the Detour, its more like an additional task.

2) have them visit places like Kalgoorlie in Western Australia, Easter Island, Boniare, Curacao, Sint-Maarten, Bermuda, and have the starting line like in Alaska or Hawaii.

3) like to see some new teamings: Uncle-Aunt/Niece-Nephew, Godparent/Godchild "in the US Version," multi-racial team "African-American/White" (not married/dating)

4) like to see some teams with new titles: Fishermen, Rock Musicians, Military Buddies, etc..

As much as I hate seeing LA used as the starting point in the US edition, I do hope the Asian edition does visit there in its next race. If only to have Phil hand out a clue. A little reciprocation there.  :)

There's some nice obscure places on that route, but could you have two legs in Malta? :duno:

If they could go to Iceland, one of the most expensive countries in the world, Denmark is SO possible. I have been there multiple times, and there are so many wonderful locations. The pitstop could be a garden at one of the castles, or the little mermaid statue. Tasks could include things to do with vikings, lego (maybe build something out of lego at legoland) and there could also be some sort of boating challenge in Aarhus. There are many historical places to visit and so many things to do. Denmark would be perfect for a leg.

This leg would be pretty good for season 19, it includes some new countries and some visited ones too.

Leg 1: Chicago => Dublin (Ireland)
Leg 2: Dublin => Copenhagen (Denmark)
Leg 3: Copenhagen => Munich (Germany)
Leg 4: Munich => Johannesburg (SA)
Leg 5: Johannesburg (SA)
Leg 6: Johannesburg => Lagos (Nigeria)
Leg 7: Lagos => Kuwait City (Kuwait)
Leg 8: Kuwait City => Istanbul (Turkey)
Leg 9: Istanbul => Urumqi (China) => Ulan Baator (Mongolia)
Leg 10: Ulan Baator (Mongolia)
Leg 11: Ulan Baator => Osaka (Japan)
Leg 12: Osaka (Japan) => Guam (USA)
