The Biggest Loser Couples Season 5 will air January 1, 2008.

http://www.nbc.com/The_Biggest_Loser_5/

In the season premiere, viewers will get to meet the contestants of the new season, which will be an unprecedented couples season. Mothers and sons, divorced couples, husbands and wives, friends…this time they’re competing not just for themselves, but for their teammates as well.  And then there will be one couple paired by Loser — complete strangers who had never met before being paired together.

The Couples are: Husband and wife team, 35-year old Curtis Bray (Graphic designer), and 36-year old Mallory Bray (Business owner), both from Los Angeles.

Hairstylist Bette Sue Burkland, 53, and her daughter, hairstylist Alison Vincent, 32, representing Mesa, Arizona.

Mother and son team 49-year old Jackie Evans (CEO of non-profit organization), and 21-year old Dan Evans (Camp counselor/musician), both from Frankfort, Illinois.

Nurse Kelly Fields, 38, Titusville, Florida and ex-hubby, 43-year old Paul Marks (Missile Support/Space Center)(okay, now that’s just cool!), Rockledge, Florida.

A new Neill! Neill Harmer, a 28-year old Web developer from Bethany, Oklahoma and his wife, 29-year old teacher Amanda Harmer.

Team “BFF” — best friends 23-year old Maggie King from Denville, New Jersey and 22-year old Jennifer Widder from River Edge, NJ. Both friends work at a weight loss camp

Mark Kruger (Aerial device sales representative), 35, Dartmouth, Massachusetts and his brother, Jay Kruger (Aerial device account manager), 31, Bedford, Massachusetts.

Former football teammates, 40-year old associate athletic director, Roger Shultz from Enterprise, Alabama and 39-year old school safety and security coordinator, Trent Patterson from Endicott, New York.

Interior decorator Lynn Westphal 60, from Elyria, Ohio and his daughter, nanny Jenni Westphal 31, from North Ridgeville, Ohio.

Strangers, 22-year old hair-stylist Brittany Aberle from San Jacinto, California and 27-year old teacher/dancer, Bernardo Salazar from Chicago, Illinois.

Alison Sweeney hosts season 5 of The Biggest Loser, and trainers Bob Harper and Jillian Michaels will also star.

The Biggest Loser airs Tuesdays, 8PM ET on NBC.

And how is this format done?  Will they be eliminated as teams, or will each of them be eliminated separately?

I'll miss Kim...

It said they will weigh in together.    The guy/guy teams should do better if they work at it in the first couple of weeks as men start losing weight faster normally.  Will the strangers do better then the other couples because they will not have to worry about hurt feelings?

But Like The Cinera how will this work as groups of 2... if a trainier is working with one group will the other pairs get mad?

An update on The Biggest Loser Couples:

http://www.realitywanted.net/

For the first time ever in the history of the “The Biggest Loser,” teams of two – including a mother and son, husband and wife, best friends, brothers, a divorced couple and former football teammates – will compete against each other rather than individuals, heightening the emotion and tension in the competition. And just like this season’s contestants, viewers at home will also be encouraged to team up with a partner to lose weight with “‘The Biggest Loser’ Million Pound Match-Up,” presented by MSN, which helps kick off the fifth season premiere on New Year’s Day.

In keeping with the theme of “The Biggest Loser: Couples,” The Million Pound Match-Up will offer viewers at home the ability to team up with a partner and build a support system that will help in their quest to lose weight. Participants will be able to sign up for the challenge to lose a million pounds beginning December 18th on BiggestLoser.MSN.com. The full site launches on January 1st and will feature a groundbreaking social networking community. Utilizing technology provided by Microsoft’s Windows Live Spaces, viewers will be able to match up with a weight loss partner in their area and discuss their journey in a supportive virtual community.

BiggestLoser.msn.com will also offer exclusive health tips and a sweepstakes from MSN Health & Fitness. The top five teams will win a trip to Los Angeles to attend “The Biggest Loser: Couples” finale and wrap party, and the winning team will win a luxury fitness trip for two plus a personal trainer for each of them for one year. Some contestants who participate in the Million Pound Match-Up will also be spotlighted during NBC’s Tuesday night episodes of “The Biggest Loser: Couples.”

In addition, there will be a “‘Biggest Loser’ Million Pound Tour,” as MSN and “The Biggest Loser” travel in January and February to five of the fattest cities in America – Chicago, IL; Houston, TX; Miami, FL; Wichita, KS and Mesa, AZ — to raise awareness, motivate people and encourage participation in the Million Pound Match-Up.

The Biggest Loser 5: Meet The Couples

http://www.buddytv.com/articles/the-biggest-loser/the-biggest-loser-5-meet-the-c-15106.aspx

The pink team is comprised of mother and daughter, Bette-Sue and Ali.  Bette-Sue is 53 years old and her daughter is 32.  Ali was once a world champion swimmer and longs to get back the body she one knew.  Bette-Sue says she and her daughter function more like siblings and they are going to be an ultra competitive team!

Paul and Kelly, of the yellow team, certainly have an interesting relationship.  They were once married for 7 years before getting divorced in 2006.  Kelly is a nurse and avid tennis player, who wants to be able to have a child of her own.  Paul's family history of bad health has put him on the track to getting his life together.

Neil and Amanda, the white team, are a married couple from Oklahoma City.  Both in their late 20s, they have a very tight bond with one another which they hope will get them far in the game.  The couple has a 2 year old son together.  She is an art teacher and he is a web designer.

Jackie joined the show, representing the orange team, with her son Dan.  She works for her own non-profit organization along with her husband and says that her weakness is take out food.  Dan is a 21 year old country/rock singer and also works for the family business.  Both mom and son call themselves entertaining but are serious about losing weight!

Jay and Mark are proud members of the black team and brothers from New Bedford, MA.  Mark is the older of the two, at 35, and Jay is 31.  Both feel they don't have enough time in their day to take care of themselves but are looking to change that.  They  refer to themselves at The Big Boned Brothers.

The purple team is made up of best friends/camp counselors, Maggie and Jenn.  Ironically, the two work at a weight loss camp in New Jersey.  The two want to shed their image of being just the "funny girl" or the "girl you can only be friends with".  These 20-somethings want to be proud of who they are and set a good example for those they mentor.

Curtis and Mallory, a married couple from Los Angeles, are the brown team.  Curtis's father died of heart failure in his early 50s, and he wants to make sure he avoids the same fate.  He was extremely popular growing up but always the overweight kid.  Mallory is very competitive and is looking to get the fast food and fat out of her house - permanently.

Representing the gray team are Trent and Roger, former football teammates.  The two met at Alabama University where they were linemen on the same team.  Now, at the ages of 39 and 40 respectively, they're ready to train hard like they did back in college and get those athletic bodies back!

Father and daughter Lynn and Jenni will make up this season's green team. Lynn is the oldest competitor on the show this season, at 62 years old.  He spends so much time taking care of others that he has forgotten about himself.  His 31 year old daughter, Jenni, is hoping that this experience will ultimately define who she is.

Rounding out this season's contestants are total strangers Brittany and Bernie, of the blue team.  This 22 year old California native is looking to go from the girl with the pretty face to the hot girl that makes heads turn.  Bernie is a 27 year old teacher from Chicago who is looking to avoid an early death.

The Biggest Loser Couples Premieres Tonight

http://www.tvguide.com/tv-hotlist#TheBiggestLoser

New Year's at the Biggest Loser campus means one thing: Shape up or ship out. And this time it's double jeopardy when the players compete in pairs. It's twice the fun and drama as the couples, including best friends, brothers and even ex-spouses, begin to work out — and work things out — under the unrelenting training of Bob Harper and Jillian Michaels. Tonight, the twosomes size up the competition and each other's commitment when host Alison Sweeney issues the first challenge: a footrace up a hill and back without killing each other.

Anyways, I'll be turning in tonight.  It'll be interesting to see how this all works out.

THE BIGGEST LOSER COUPLES PREMIERE UPDATE

http://tvgrapevine.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=112&Itemid=50

Alison greets the new contestants and tells them that things are a little different this time.  She tells them there are nine teams of couples, but she has one more team to introduce to them.  They were selected from the Biggest Loser Online Club and the difference is they don't have the bond the others have, they don't even know each other.  Then she introduces Brittney and Bernie.  They have just met for the first time.

Alison then informs them it is time for their first challenge.  They will be playing for Bob and Jillian!  The challenge is to race to the top of a hill and all the way back.  They must follow a trail of blue and black flags, at the top there will be a Biggest Loser flag.  Both team members must touch the flag, race all the way back, and then both team members must get in line behind the trainer that they choose.  The catch, each trainer can only train five teams.  So once a trainer has five teams behind them, they will have to take the other trainer.

The First Challenge
First one up the hill is Mark and Jay, followed by Bernie and Brittney.   First back to the campus is Mark & Jay and they chose Jillian.  Bette Sue is so exhausted she has to crawl up the hill.  Brittney & Bernie choose Bob.  Roger and Trent choose Jillian.  Curtis & Mallory choose Jillian.  Jackie & Dan choose Bob.  Neill & Amanda choose Jillian.  Maggie & Jen choose Jillian.  Lynn & Jennifer get Bob.  Bette Sue & Ali arrive and are on Bob's team.

Beginning Weigh-In
Alison explains that they will weigh in as a team on a double scale and their team weight is all that counts.

Dan (310) & Jackie (246) - Orange - 556
Jay (293) & Mark (285) - Black -  578
Jennifer (267)  & Lynn (409) - Green - 676
Roger  (363) & Trent (436) - Gray - 799
Neill (317) & Amanda (204) - White - 521
Paul (303) & Kelly (271) - Yellow 574
Brittney (221) & Bernie (283) - Blue  504
Maggie (239) & Jen (254) - Purple - 493
Curtis (381) & Mallory (217) - Brown - 598
Bette Sue (261) & Ali (234) - Pink - 495

The Second Challenge
The contestants arrive on a course to see 10 giant balloons in team colors.  Alison explains that they will have to drag the balloons around the course.  The team that comes in first will get to subtract 2 pounds from their total weight at this weeks weigh-in.  The team that comes in last place will have to add two pounds to their total weight at the weigh-in.

The race begins.  Pink Team starts strong then falls back.  The Brown Team and Black Team are setting the pace.  The Black Team takes the lead.  The Blue Team is conserving energy and saving their breath, but move up behind the Brown Team.   The Purple Team is dead last.    The Blue Team begins to run, passing the Brown Team and trying to catch the Black Team.  Jay and Mark (Black Team) notice the Blue Team making a move and begin to run, crossing the finish line first.  Brittney and Bernie (Blue) cross second, with Bernie retching.  Maggie & Jen (Purple) cross the finish line last.

The Last Chance Workout
Jennifer complains that her father, Lynn, (Green Team) would not come to the gym for a cardio workout.  Lynn doesn't want to workout because he has blisters on his 60-year old  feet.  Jennifer has a good cry in the gym, while her father is sleeping.  Lynn gets up early and went to the gym to workout on the treadmill.

Bernie had to go to the hospital because he was in a daze, unable to keep food down.  Tests were run and he was able to return after spending the night in the hospital.  He is worried about what kind of a teammate he is to Brittney.  Bob greets Bernie when he returns to the gym and tells hem he will keep it light.  Bernie sits out on the last chance workout.

The Weigh-In
Alison greets them and informs them that their percentage of combine weight loss will determine who stays and who goes.  The lowest percentage will fall below the line and the other teams will decide who goes home.  Alison tells them that after tonight's weigh-in, they will not have the usual 24-hours to decide who to vote off, they will have one hour!

Orange -   Dan -25 Jackie -15       - 40  7.19%
Black -      Jay -13 Mark -17            -32  5.54%  (+2 pounds from the challenge)
Green -     Jennifer -7   Lynn -19     -26  3.85
Gray -       Roger -20  Trent -29      -49  6.13%
White -     Neil -13& Amanda -14   -27  5.18%
Yellow -    Paul -17 Kelly -13           -30 5.23%
Purple -    Maggie -10 Jen -12       -24 4.06% (-2 pounds from the challenge)
Brown-     Curtis -22 Mallory -14     -36  6.02%
Pink -       Bette Sue -16  Ali  -19    -35  7.07%
Blue -       Brittney -10  Bernie -17   -27  5.36%

The Elimination
Yellow votes for Jen & Maggie (Purple)
White votes for Lynn & Jenni (Green)
Blue votes for Lynn & Jenni(Green)
Orange votes for Lynn & Jenni (Green)
Brown votes for Lynn & Jenni (Green)
Pink votes for Lynn & Jenni (Green)

Lynn & Jenni are Eliminated
We meet up with Jenni & Lynn.  Lynn has lost 30 pounds, Jenni has lost 20 pounds.

I saw the last 5 minutes of the show... it sounded like the Dad did not want to be there.  How sad, so many want to be there and he threw away his chance for him and his daughter.

Very sad... Especially after he complained that he hurt after the challenge later that night. And this was as all of the other contestants were in the gym! Everyone else was probably hurting, and were they going to let their tired selves relax? I'd probably give myself a little break post-challenge, but at least I would be in the gym afterward. He was supposed to be doing this for and with his daughter, and his actions cost the two of them a chance to continue. If he worked out that night and then the following morning, I could see that. But the morning thing was too little, too late.

Regarding the balloon challenge: The winning team had two pounds added to their total to help them out in the weigh-in, while the last team to finish had two pounds subtracted from their total. The first episode summary has this reversed.

I'm shocked how much weight they lost, it seemed they were struggling so much.

Goes to show just getting up off the coach does.

I love Jillians tough love approach, no pain no gain, would love to have her as trainer.

It was just a great day of programming on NBC. I had it on there for most of the day.

The NHL Winter Classic on from 1pm -- whenever it ended (forget when) and then Biggest Loser: Couples that night. Just perfect.

Tonight On The Biggest Loser Couples

Every relationship has its ups and downs.... and that's taken literally this time as the teams compete in a seesaw challenge that ends up being tougher than it seems. Something else they find more difficult than it should be: avoiding the temptation of an all-you-can-eat barbecue buffet. And keeping with the couples theme, the twosomes learn they will now have two trainers: Bob and Jillian will be pulling double duty when they team up to give the contestants twice the incentive to hit the gym.

I caught the rerun on Bravo last night and OMG I love it.  I think it was right that Lynn and Jenni got the boot...why let him stay there if he doesn't want to be there?  Even if she wanted to...not fair to the other team who BOTH want to be there!  Plus, strategically, makes sense...Lynn had the potential to drop alot bigger numbers than the BF Girls did.  KWIM?

I'm so glad it's Jillian again this season...I feel bad for Kim, but Jillian rocks!

Last night was alright, huh?  I would have been totally pissed if I was Brittney and what's his name (the strangers team) tho...they should have gotten those calling cards.  I can understand the logic of the bros and them giving them to who has kids, but at the same time...I think it would have been fair to give them to the people who finished 2, 3, and 4th.  KWIM?  And I'm a mother...I understand it'd be horribly difficult to be away from your kid, but that white team...they totally didn't earn it.  And the team of guys...they GAVE UP at like 3...they TOTALLLY didn't deserve it.  Kids or not...quitters don't deserve a reward!   :meow:

I despise the black team. They are extremely cocky and you could tell by his reaction to eating those 900 calories in the temptation. I hope they lose but they will probably win, guys always win.
