I think Chateau nailed it..The Goths, not seen with the other 3 teams, probably went for the Fast Forward and are now behind  :cmas4
I sure would love to know what the other detour option was (:;)

One teams goes for the FF, four teams to do the DETOUR.  Perhaps they all do the flag waving so it doesn't matter what the other task was.

Remember, Boingo noted a river and bridge, perhaps Via Francesco Petrarca-Via Palmiro Togliatti  :cmas5

Quote from: Puddin
Does anyone have a feeling that Christina is not in that same scene with TK and thats what they want us to think?

Yeah, there's something odd about the whole sequence. The six-mile radius Phil mentioned (why 6? why not 5 or 10? does that mean it's between 5 and 6 miles away?  :cmas5) produces, if I can remember my arithmetic, a search area of a little over 110 square miles. The picture below shows a six-mile line from the Vinci sign; it stretches beyond the hills behind Vinci. That's a lot to cover in 30 minutes, given the cruising speed of most "trikes" (35-50 knots).

Your arithmetic looks good to me, Slowhatch. If I remember my geometry, it's PI /4 X D squared, so that would be 144 X .785 = 113 square miles

It's a fabulous find! But I am absolutely no good with coordinates--can someone please show me where Chateau's field is? Zoomed out a little maybe? :cmaslol

And maybe the 6 mile radius is due to the flying range of the ultralights...

I've attached a kmz, and the map link is below. It's off of Via Piccaratico.

Oh thank you Slowhatch! I see! May I  snag that for MAPS! pretty please?

Wow--so they are all near Empoli. Since they arrive the evening before--Wonder if there is somewhere in Empoli that our guys bunch to get their clue? Or are we still thinking Florence the night before? And drive to Empoli in the early AM?  But on second thought--it must be somewhere besides Empoli or why would Kynt/Vyxsin be so stressed out trying to get there?

I do hope we get to see something of Florence (one of my favorite cities)--I am still hoping for a climb the Duomo cluebox on the evening of 7/20....

Peach, I'm afraid based on what we are seeing that the most of Florence we will see is the way to one cluebox in the evening. Unfortunately, the Duomo is long closed by then.

You don't think they can make it there by 6 or so??  :cmas4

  Good a guess as any, puddin, but I'm thinkin' that it's out in to "boonies" and not in downtown Empoli.  Besides, those steep hills in the picture suggest a rural location.   :groan:  I'm fresh out of suggestions, myself.  Just want this leg to be over with, already.   (:;)  Sooner we get to the Far East, the better.   :lol3: I'm saving myself for the sprint to the finish line.   :cmas26   :cmas3

You know....we don't have a shot of TK/Rachel doing the detour. Despite all the Goth drama, it IS possible that TK/Rachel could be behind...way behind. The only evidence we have for them further along is  the undocumented (but still valid?) Taiwan spoiler of a brunette woman and a "man who appeared very fit" ...Which might or might not be them--depending on whether you believe that spoiler.

Now if it was TK/Rachel who went out this week...I would be surprised. And Jason's comment about us being surprised might seem more valid.

I just keep thinking that CBS WANTS us to think it is the Goths this week. Smokescreen anyone?

Is it possible to do in-mid-air time shots?? :cmas22

Christina was in the same area too.  Her river comment was how I found the field with the VINCI.

This shot was taken here  between 7:17 and 8:02 am (assumes July 21st).

I'm gonna say that it is Ron & Christina who lose their clue.

It should not take them until 11:00 am to get to Vinci.   :cmas10

But they still are ahead of the Goths... :cmas4

Can we possibly--maybe?--some way?--magic?? figure out the time for TK's flights?   Any possibility they could be behind the Goths? I know--apples and oranges but anyway...

You would have thought she would have thrown in a free Christmas bonus or something--right?

Heee....brought her out of hiding! :xmas49

CHATEAU!! A mid air time--yippee! But darn--that is still way early--he had time to go up 5 or 6 times...

Looking bad for the Goths but I'm going to cling forlornly to my idea of a CBS smokescreen... don't y'all disillusion me--okay??  :cmas11

the clues minus the Don/Nic stuff--

*One Team faces a major setback when they lose their clue and their way in Italy.
*..  one team faces a setback when they lose both their clue and their way.

*The teams participate in a flag-twirling challenge, where one team falls apart and faces a "nightmarish" experience.
*For the average traveler, a visit to Italy would likely be a magical experience, but for one particular team "nightmarish" might be a better description, when things suddenly stop going their way in the race.
*One Team receives shocking news at the Pit Stop that they liken to a “three-headed serpent that at any moment can spring forward.”
