Super Bowl 50: Ryan Reynolds, Liam Hemsworth Among Hollywood A-Listers Attending Game Day

by Brian Porreca

2/4/2016 9:00am PST

With the Denver Broncos facing off against the Carolina Panthers outside San Francisco on Feb. 7, the Bay Area is going to be packed to the wharf with famous fans — hello Jay Leno and Phil Keoghan — and crowded parties.

This story first appeared in the Feb. 12 issue of The Hollywood Reporter magazine.

Super Bowl 50 has cast its headliners — the Denver Broncos will play the Carolina Panthers at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif., on Feb. 7 — and neither is a typical Hollywood-type team. But that won't keep Tinseltown names away from the big game, including Ryan Reynolds, Liam Hemsworth, Jeff Goldblum, Jay Leno and Paramount vice chair Rob Moore. Reynolds will pass out chimichangas to promote Deadpool, Hemsworth and Goldblum will tackle promotional responsibilities on behalf of their upcoming Independence Day: Resurgence, and Leno jets north to San Francisco to get back in the hosting chair as emcee of the annual charity event Big Game Big Give.

As for Moore, one of Hollywood's most committed Super Bowl loyalists, football remains front and center, and he'll be rooting for quarterback Cam Newton and his Panthers. This year marks Moore's 13th Super Bowl trip since 2002, while The Amazing Race host Phil Keoghan will make his Super Bowl debut. "I've always wanted to go, but I know how hard it is to get tickets, so I've never had the courage to ask. I can't believe that I have a ticket," he says. "Thank you, Leslie Moonves!" With the game airing on CBS, Moonves, the president and CEO of CBS Corp., will attend along with his wife, Julie Chen.

Amazing Race host shows off Nelson

TASHA LEOV

 Last updated 15:42, March 30 2016

The Amazing Race's Phil Keoghan at Tekapo, he will be in Nelson with film crews next Saturday.

The Amazing Race host and renowned Kiwi Phil Keoghan will soon be in the region as part of a new series to show Nelson off to the world.

Keoghan brings with him a film crew that will fly a drone around for a new series capturing New Zealand from above. He will also be on the finish line of GODzone to chat with Richie McCaw about the race.

Nelson Tasman Tourism international marketing manager Gisela Purcell said having Keoghan come to the region was a coup.

"He's a great Kiwi personality who has huge international recognition and it gives us outstanding exposure."

Footage captured from the drone will go towards a series to be the New Zealand equivalent of an American show, "Aerial America", which airs on the Smithsonian channel.

The show will show uninterrupted, narrated footage of New Zealand.

The drone will be filming the Centre of New Zealand and the Lord Rutherford Memorial in Brightwater. It will also feature two Nelson College rugby teams training at the Botanic Gardens, symbolising the first ever rugby match that was held in New Zealand.

Nelson College director of community relations Mark Vinsen said the school was a rugby pioneer in New Zealand.

"On May 14th 1870, Nelson College played against Nelson Club in the first game of Rugby in New Zealand.  So we have been around a wee while," he said.

Vinsen said he was unsure what to expect but wanted the boys to be able to have some fun.

"It's a very cool opportunity, it will be a great thing. I don't know what to expect. We'll just have the boys have a kick around and have some fun," he said.

Purcell said she was excited because it was a good way to show off what Nelson had to offer.

"It's one way of showing the things you can do. It's really exciting," she said.

Keoghan and his crew will be here for a short stay, arriving on April 9 to film and leaving on April 10.
