The Amazing Race 12 in the Media
« on: July 20, 2007, 10:41:54 PM »
No media thread, so I'll throw this in here: a Littman interview from a CBS preview party (courtesy of the Orlando Sentinel)
Quote
"The Amazing Race": The Emmy-winning reality show is not on the fall schedule and will return later. "The countries are very exotic," Littman says. "We're going to a couple of places that I don't even know where they are on the map. I've had to go look them up."

As for the teams? Lively.

"This is a tough group," Littman says. "They'll be younger. We still have a good balance."

The show will will do two fewer episdoes and drop the noneliminations to create more excitement.

Bravo Aims to Make Emmy a Real Race

"The Amazing Race" has crossed the finish line first every year it has been nominated for the reality-competition program Emmy. That makes four statuettes in a row for series co-creator Bertram Van Munster, with the possibility of a fifth this year. But Bravo is double-teaming the CBS series with challenges from "Top Chef" and "Project Runway."

Mr. Van Munster sees each Emmy nod as a validation of all the hard work that goes into "Amazing Race." "It means we're still on the map as a serious contender, and to me and all of us in the business, it's very important," he said. "I think the academy and our colleagues recognize how complicated it is to do something like this. It takes a lot of experience and a lot of knowledge, and I think they also recognize that this is done with a lot of taste.

"It's extremely complex, but it's also very simple because Elise [Doganieri], co-creator of the series] and I go out and we lay out the entire route and every competition. We do everything except the things we can't predict.

"The appeal is that it's extremely relatable. We can all recognize ourselves, whether we're young or old. We can all relate traveling with our loved ones. I want to go left and my partner wants to go right. We all know what a nightmare it can be. It brings everything out in people and it's just hysterical," he added. "Editing is a very important part of it, but not in the sense that we say 'OK, let's make this look better.' The show is cut basically chronologically as it happens. There are no sound bites in there that don't belong in that moment. Exactly what you see is exactly what happens."

Q: I was wondering if CBS has canceled ''The Amazing Race.'' I haven't seen any advertising for a new season. It's one of my favorites.
A: CBS renewed The Amazing Race, but as a midseason show, meaning it will turn up sometime after the fall premieres which could be soon if some of CBS's autumn prospects fail to deliver.

Amazing Race In, Not-so-amazing Viva Out an article from TV Guide:

In a statement, Race exec producer Bertram van Munster says, "If there ever was a season that I consider one of the best, it's this one. It's insanely funny, fast-paced and dramatic all at once." And there's no dancing on roulette wheels. He meant to add that.

This season, the Race will cover five new countries including Ireland, Lithuania and Croatia.

Now they are just giving it all away  !

'Viva Laughlin's' demise clears the way for 'The Amazing Race'

The Emmy-winning reality series will be back on the air Nov. 4 after CBS quickly pulls the plug on its musical casino drama.

By MICHAEL HEWITT

The No. 1 question the Watcher gets from readers: When is "The Amazing Race" returning?

At last I have an answer: Nov. 4!

The 12th edition of the race was filmed in July and August, but the five-time Emmy winner did not earn a spot on the fall schedule. The "TAR" faithful had expected the show to return once CBS started canceling its new-show duds, and that's what happened.

"Viva Laughlin," the sort-of-musical, sort-of-drama mess, was canceled after one night in its regular Sunday time slot. The special-night premiere of "Viva Laughlin" coughed up more than half of the lead-in audience from "CSI" on Thursday, and the Sunday episode did the same for "60 Minutes."

This year's race includes stops in Croatia, Burkina Faso and Alaska and features the first-ever Goth team.

Somebody over at RealityBlurred did the math: it turns out the racers are a little older than Littman thought.

(And tall as well: Nathan is 6-5 and Nicolas and TK look just as tall)

I hope the 'meet the teams' videos are up soon -- I need to see videos of the people to get a better idea of their personalities.

Exclusive Interview: Bertram van Munster, Creator and Executive Producer of The Amazing Race

October 28, 2007

Before season 12 of The Amazing Race began filming, BuddyTV got the chance to talk to the contestants, creator and host of the show to get their thoughts on what was to come. Check back all this week as we unveil our exclusive video interviews of the 11 brand new teams.

Creator and Executive Producer, Bertram van Munster is the mastermind behind the five time Emmy award-winning series, The Amazing Race, which will premiere its 12th season on Sunday, November 4 on CBS.  11 new teams competing for $1 million dollars will travel approximately 30,000 miles, covering five countries never before visited on the Race.

BuddyTV had the opportunity to sit down with Bertram van Muster at The Amazing Race 12 Press Junket held at CBS Television City this summer to talk about the show, how it has evolved over the years, and what fans can expect to see on the upcoming season. Watch BuddyTV's full video interview after the jump.

- Bertram van Munster’s wife, Elise Doganieri, was the one who came up with the concept of the show.

- Bertram believes The Amazing Race has been successful because everyone can relate to it and because it’s so unpredictable.

- Over the course of the years, the core concept of the show still remains the same, but the casting has evolved to a certain degree and the show has been made harder here and there.

- The planning of the show is what it’s really all about. Bertram and his partner go around the world at least twice to prep for the show setting up logistics, permits, money, etc. It takes 4-5 months to prep for the show.

- There are a lot of countries that are not used to see camera men, some countries are more difficult to work with, and some countries they have to avoid altogether.

- Airlines are great to work with because they are promoting those airlines. They appreciate the publicity and are very cooperative.

- Season 12 will be very original. At least 65% of the places visited this season are places that The Amazing Race has never been.

- The cast is very exciting, original, and very different than what we’ve seen for a very long time.

- Intervie conducted by Royce Yuen
