I loved episode 5. It's just like The Amazing Race being in India. Except for Daichi and Sawaka, all other teams were in complete chaos. I am not going to get ahead of the Saturday limit on serious comments, but I will say that the random city geography roadblock was a very fine one indeed. Again, Daichi and Sawaka had to have an edge with one Japanese city being the end result sought.

Since what is involved here is the Shinkansen, or famous bullet train, the distance of 934 km is covered in 3 hours 40 to 3 hours 49 minutes:

Route Departure time/Platform Arrival time/Total sum/Required time/Distance/Number of transfers
The first TOKYO(05:18) HAKATA(08:59) ¥36670 3hours 41min 934.9 km 3times
The second TOKYO(05:28) HAKATA(09:14) ¥24670 3hours 46min 934.0 km 3times
The third TOKYO(06:20) HAKATA(10:08) ¥36670 3hours 48min 934.0 km 3times
The fourth TOKYO(06:20) HAKATA(10:08) ¥36670 3hours 48min 934.9 km 3times
The fifth TOKYO(06:46) HAKATA(10:26) ¥24670 3hours 40min

When converted from metric into U.S, units,  it becomes 158 miles per hour averaged throughout this trip, which goes along the entire lower coast of Honshu and then onto Kyushu. Since there are several stops, you can imagine how fast this train is really travelling.

I had to read the recap last night as the episode was not available "on satellite", but I have found it now and am about ready to watch it. Expect a full recap this weekend.

Since it's now officially Saturday on the East Coast of the US, I will say what I really think of Rovilson & Marc. I want them out. I want them to touch the third rail and get electrocuted. Their constant mugging especially those stupid fake mustaches in the taxi was one of the dumbest scenes I have ever seen in the Amazing Race.

I am thoroughly disgusted whenever I see them on camera. One of them is mugging while the other makes seemingly scripted one-liners. They are not funny. They are not talented. They are not true reality TV participants. If they got run over by a concrete truck, I would not be unhappy at all.

When I do my recap sometime this weekend, I will figure a way to slander them. No, that's not right, but I will blast them for their behavior in this episode.

Ken, I agree with you. However, the Amazing Race has this funny way of bringing the mighty down. Look at Colin and Christie in AR5, final episode or Rob and Amber in AR11, episode 4 for examples. I am expecting that Marc and Rovilson are going to do something stupid or get Yielded when there is virtually no opportunity to recover. Then, suddenly they will be out. Let's pray for this.

We can only hope this happens. Yes, seemingly dominant teams find a way to get their comeuppance. This has happened this season to Azaria & Hendekea of TAR12. I do hope Rovilson & Marc will either get Yielded or do an Intersection with Terry & Henry who will argue and cost the alpha males the race.

nxt I think they r going to Busan .... ferry ride from Fukuoka to Busan

cabioTAR, I could not believe what I found out about this:

Section First Departure  Last Departure  Time Required  Fare(won)

Busan ¡æ Fukuoka Sun.~Fri. 22:30 7hrs.30mins. 80,000

Kobee (http://www.kobee.co.kr)  (051)441-8200

Section First Departure  Last Departure  Time Required  Fare(won)

Busan ¡æ Fukuoka Summer:3times a day  09:05
12:35
16:00
2hrs. 55mins 95,000

I was expecting the 7.5 hour crossing. The 3 hour hydrofoil option is very attractive and probably what they did if released from the last task before 4pm. Since my Shinkansen schedule indicates they would have arrived by about 9am, they might even make the 1235 hydrofoil.

Once AR12 teams have landed in Busan, they will probably be headed for Seoul ASAP. There are 72 daily trains from Pusan to Seoul, with the quickest taking just under 3 hours. Since my guess is that the ferry will be arriving at about 1530 and individuals will need to clear customs, trains from 1600 on have my focus. The first 7 fastest trains in that time period are:

1615 1904

1630 1934

1700 1945

1725 2014

1750 2048

1800 2056

1820 2123

The distance of this trip is 412 km or about 255 miles.

Here's an updated ARA2 TIMELINE:

July 5 - ARA2 begins in Singapore

July 6 - Manila

July 8 - Auckland

July 10 - Rotorua

July 11 - Tokyo TBC

July 12 - Fukuoka ferry to Busan, Korea, then train to Seoul

July 13 - Seoul

July 14 - fly Inchon airport to Frankfurt

July 15 - Frankfurt

July 17 - Prague

July 19 - Budapest

I am going to speculate that it ends with this:

July 22 - Bangkok area

Total time = 17 days for 10 legs

In addition to the octopus grab and the tae kwan do, some more evidence for Busan: this cap would seem to be the Gwangan bridge. If you squint, you can match the curved supports seen in this photo. Even better, the traffic flow is divided between upper and lower levels, so the cab's direction might be determined (they're probably just going from the ferry terminal into the city, but you never know).
