THURSDAY MORNING ON THE EARLY SHOW
Harry Smith, Hannah Storm, Julie Chen and Maggie Rodriguez anchor THE EARLY SHOW from New York. Dave Price will bring us the weather. Russ Mitchell is off.
Along with the top news of the day, we will also have the following stories:
SPICE GIRLS’ BIG ANNOUCEMENT: Victoria Beckham, Melanie Chisholm, Geri Halliwell, Emma Bunton and Melanie Brown of the Spice Girls will make a formal announcement Thursday about their future plans as a group. The Spice Girls were a very successful British pop group that formed in 1994. After selling over 53 million albums worldwide together, Baby, Ginger, Scary, Sporty and Posh, as they are individually known, split up in 2001.
WHITE HOUSE TEE BALL: Our very own Hannah Storm is at the White House Wednesday to speak to President George W. Bush about the importance of girls in sports, Title IX and the childhood obesity epidemic. While at the White House, Storm will return to her roots as a sports broadcaster and call the play-by-play for “Tee Ball on the South Lawn,” a little league game celebrating women in sports. President Bush launched his White House Tee Ball Initiative in 2001 in recognition of the role baseball has played in American history, and its importance as a tool for fostering teamwork among America's youth.
PROFESSIONAL LOOKS FOR THE HEAT: The dog days of summer are here, but that doesn’t mean you have to be hot… Glamour magazine will show us great professional looks that will keep you looking and feeling cool in the heat and humidity. Glamour’s executive fashion editor at large Suze Yalof Schwartz will also join us with fashion tips that every careerwoman should know to beat the heat.
EVENING: Hidden secrets and past loves cause a mother and her daughters to understand each other on a new, more mature level. That’s the premise of the new drama based on Susan Minot’s 1998 novel Evening. The flick features a stellar cast including critically acclaimed actress Claire Danes as the young, passionate Ann Grant. Danes along with newcomer Mamie Gummer will join us with all the details on their new tearjerker.
EGGPLANT DISHES: We're grilling with the king of grilling -- our resident chef Bobby Flay. Did you know that eggplant is a fruit, but often cooked as a vegetable? He’ll join us with some interesting eggplant trivia and more importantly some delicious recipes you can do at home.
