One of Canada's most famous wrestlers has apparently met with a tragic end that also claimed his wife and son.

WWE superstar Chris Benoit, his wife Nancy and son Daniel were reportedly found dead Monday in their Atlanta home after the 40-year-old grappler  missed a house show Saturday night and a Sunday night pay-per-view event. He had travelled home to Georgia for family reasons, but didn't elaborate on what they may have been. Benoit, born in Montreal, was also known as "Pegasus Kid" and was widely considered to be one of the stronger technical wrestlers of all time.

The WWE immediately announced plans to scrap Monday's scheduled "Raw" event and will address the tragedy on air.

"There are no further details at this time, other than the Benoit family residence is currently being investigated by local authorities," the WWE statement said on its website.

Benoit, wife argued over son’s care
Lawyer gives details about wrestler’s life prior to killings
Metro News Toronto - June 28 2007

In the days before pro wrestler Chris Benoit killed his wife and child and hanged himself, the couple argued over whether he should stay home more to take care of their mentally handicapped seven-year-old son, a lawyer for the wrestling league said yesterday.
“I think it’s fair to say that the subject of caring for that child was part of what made their relationship complicated and difficult, and it’s something they were both constantly struggling with,” said Jerry McDevitt, a lawyer for W o r l d Wrestling Entertainment. “We do know it was a source of stress and consternation.” McDevitt said the wrestling organization learned from the couple’s friends and relatives that the Benoits were struggling with where to send the boy to school since he had recently finished kindergarten. He also said Benoit’s wife didn’t want him to quit wrestling, but she “wanted him to be at home more to care for the kid. She’d say she
can’t take care of him by herself when he was on the road.” The child suffered from a rare medical condition called Fragile X Syndrome, an inherited form of mental retardation often accompanied by autism, McDevitt said.
