Hmm. Does Phil go on the rehearsal rounds as well?

Do you mean for the NOW show? I don't think we know the answer to that....I would think he would want to do as much as possible.

Maybe he couldn't get into the forum either? It locked out even puddin remember!

But an update would be nice! Did your friend come through with the pic? ANY hope?

I’ve still to get it confirmed (Phil’s phone must be out of range), but I can confirm many googlers have searched for ‘kaikohe’ or ‘nz amazing race’ and gotten to BOTS. So, other kiwis have seen this phenomenon, and thought they are TAR folk too.

Right now I'm leaning towards both of these being nothing, but obviously they can't both be right.

More from NZ--this sounds fairly credible:

uumm…i think it may have been a local amazing race organised by First Mobile Kaikohe coz my workmate and her fiance who is one of the sales reps for Dealers in Northland were involved….and she did say there were a few crashes

This is a cellular phone shop: First Mobile, Kaikohe, 89 Broadway, Kaikohe

I agree that this is very doubtful. But if it was, it probably was later as they were still at the gate at 2:45 when joemike saw them--so maybe even up to 4 to 5? I found one flight out to Miami which would allow for all sorts of Caribbean or South American connections.

Thanks for looking for us apskip!

Just for you, PEACH, I have done the following:

AMERICAN AIRLINES FLIGHTS BETWEEN 1500 and 1700 OUT OF JFK

International
1540 AA585  San Juan
1545 AA4752 Montreal
1545 CX831(code-share with AA?) Hong Kong
1620 AA1444 Bermuda
1620 AA 975  Caracas

Domestic
1515 AA 4723 Raleigh-Durham
1530 AA3944 Baltimore-Washington
1535 AA85    San Francisco
1540 AA585   Miami
1600 AA131  Los Angeles
1605 AA4731 St. Louis/Springfield MO
1610 AA1755 Washington DCA
1625 AA4668 Boston
1700 AA181 Los Angeles

It should be noted that many of the international destinations as well as Miami and Los Angeles are hubs in their own right and could have connections to many other cities, so there could be a much broader range of destinations for anyone on these flights or the 1430 to 1500 flights.

Anyways - as we all thought, I'm guessing we can rule this all out now:

http://www.cbsnews.com/sections/earlyshow/main500202.shtml

Phil was doing an interview this morning and while the hula portion was pre taped, it looked like he had an interview via live feed from Los Angeles.

Thanks Michael for the link--I saw Phil this AM (could have used a little more Phil Hula IMO!)  :flirt:

We all knew yesterday that this was highly unlikely to be a TAR team event. But you know what? It doesn't matter! It was fun, it livened up a dull day around here, and it was good spoiling practice for that day when someone says "I just saw some teams in the Timbuckto airport". So let's just enjoy it for what it was! And keep those eyes peeled for the next airport sighting....

Don't worry joemike--the forum was down for all of us last night. Thanks for updating us!

Thanks for the flight info apskip--see, we don't want you to get out of practice either! ;)

puddin I'm guessing the Keoghan's Heroes stuff is already filmed (thats why they had footage of him in Hawaii doing the hula?) but I'm not sure!

What do you want to bet he's still involved though? This is his baby...

He will be for sure as he is the executive producer...just not on screen.  The application said that you have to be ready to be gone up to 7 days during the summer months if you're chosen once your schedule is cleared.

That's what she said! Oh no! If that is the case then they probably wont be filming TAR12 until September then! Which means that regardless if we a show gets cancelled we wont see any TAR until Feb for sure! :( None of this fits in with Phil's "about to begin the 12th race" when he was on The Hour!

He doesn't NECESSARILY need to be physically there to do N.O.W. and my understanding that he won't be travelling with the crew filming it.  However he can get notes from the road and he did tell me that June is the probable start date for the race.  So basically, I want to clarify my earlier post that he will  be for sure INVOLVED with the production as this is his concept.  However not hosting it.

yikes, thanks for posting that! If Phil said that June is the probable start date for filming of TAR12 then I guess we have another week before we should start really paying attention to any "sightings"

I can't wait!

I'm quite interested about this NZ sighting. To the best of my knowledge, there are no shows similar to TAR which are produced locally, and in fact, the ratings for TAR have been sliding downhill since season 6, and the most recent season which aired (10), was shown in a bad timeslot.

The closest is an episode of Phil's NOW which aired last year, where 5 teams of 2 people who had never met each other raced across NZ - following closely to the TAR format, but with different terminology. It was a 48hr "challenge", and tasks were fairly limited.

If there's anything I can help with, let me know. I've lived in NZ all my life, and have traveled extensively around both the North and South islands.

Cheers,
randomnzer

Thanks randomnzer! Appreciate the offer and hope we can use your help one day on something more interesting.

We are pretty convinced that this was one of two local events:

Either this youth organization or this mobile phone company

I have obtained the phone # of the youth organizer and I'm sure the other # is findable so if you wanted to do some detecting and find out for sure who sent the teams to play golf here--that would be great! You can send me a PM if you want the # --just let me know!

alright this is weird!
I got an e-mail response from the golf club and this is what they said:

Quote
Hi Michael

The filming was for the Amazing Race

Please let me know who was kicked out - this should never have happened and we sincerely appologise

If you can let me know who it was I will arrange a free round for them

Thanks

Could TAR Asia have started filming earlier? (Are small local tars usually filmed with soundman/cameracrew?)

Interesting! If it was for our TAR they would NOT (by contract) have been able to confirm that so it remains very doubtful. I've run up against the "we aren't allowed to say anything" before!

I have already emailed the phone people about their race and am hoping that randomnzer might want to call the Youth race organizer, so we can get more info.
