Sad Day for Mole Fans
« on: October 22, 2002, 09:10:38 AM »
HOLLYWOOD (Variety) - Even as a celeb version of "The Mole" starts taking shape, the ABC reality series is saying goodbye to original host and current CNN anchor Anderson Cooper.

Cooper, whose dry wit and droll manner helped "The Mole" stand out from the nonfiction pack, won't be a part of the upcoming celeb or civilian editions of the show, the network confirmed Friday.

It seems CNN execs asked Cooper to choose between his gig as a reality host and his job as a reporter-anchor for the news cable channel. Cooper, a veteran journalist who once toiled for ABC News, decided to stick with the news biz.

As for the upcoming celeb "Mole," insiders said actor Stephen Baldwin, Victoria's Secret model Frederique and reality nut Kathy Griffin are attached to take part in the game, which will be filmed in Hawaii.

Griffin should make for an interesting player: the comic turned her love of reality series into a short-lived MTV gabber focused entirely on nonfiction shows like "Survivor" and "The Real World ( news - Y! TV)."
