Yes, they are major lost.

If they were going the same way as the police pickup truck in these shots then they were going North !
The hacienca is mostly south from Quito.

The Northness, I think, is because it should be about 10 am and the sun would be shining from the southeast.  I'm just looking at the way the light hits their heads and the truck is pointed about 135 deg north of that sun direction.  It's sketchy.

Interestingly enough, they are looking in the right direction (sun on left front of their faces) !

Well it could be, Danielle never showed she could navigate.  But Eric navigated for Jeremy.  And with a valid (non hand drawn map) we have no footage of them ever getting lost in season 9 (without a map yeap, and with 2 seperate hand drawn maps yes).

So I am curious if he will have Danielle drive.

On Romber's show [i know i think im the only one watching] they discussed their new AR strategy.

Rob wanted to bring no bags, and have Amber wear the jacket the whole time.  Amber convinces him to bring 1 bag.  So i think Rob and Amber will bring one bag with not much in it, and all the shots support this.

1. Amber wearing the jacket at the start
2. When seen with DK, only Rob has a bag on
3. It seems Rob is wearing the Red Sweater everywhere, maybe he brought no other clothes.

Danielle and Dani said they couldnt read maps well, but they only got lost following a team who got them lost.  In Brazil they did great navigating as well in Italy [but Dani was the Navigator], and Danielle was ok driving stick.  She did teribble driving in Italy but by far was not the worst of stick shift drivers [Meredith and Maria and Heather and Eve], but she was also with a partner that couldnt drive stick, maybe with Eric she would do a better job.  But its strange because she did fine driving in Brazil.

I don't have the resolution to figure out where the gas station is. The sign looks like "something commercial de Pichincha" I hope that refers to the province; if it refers to the city or Gagua Pichincha volcano, then JVJ are way too far west. Another possibility is that they misheard or misspoke: there's a hacienda yanaurcu that takes a right turn into cotopaxi province instead of a left turn to cotopaxi volcano.

I patched together a map of the rough part of the journey to Hacienda Yanahurco.

Racers should have gone south from Quito to Machachi.  Then they would have done well to follow the black dotted line to the hacienda.

I found the Hacienda using apskip's reference to the river by that name.  The River of the Vicious Valley is a little east of the hacienda.

I don't know if they were contestants driving out or film crew. But yes, it's likely they'd drive out, and there's a check point to get out of the National Park before you get out to the town.

the ones taken up the hill are from a pretty little glass hut/viewing chalet, it's almost opposite volcanoes Cotopaxi and Quilindana - really great point to see the bulls and horses coming down the valley, and then into the corals.
