I watched the first night of auditions.

The talent level in Minneapolis must be very low, if what they showed us were the best!!!  :groan:

I thought Matt Sato, the 16 year old guy who sang "California Dreaming" and Sarah Krueger "Over the Rainbow" were the best.

I personally did not like Denise "Crack Baby" Jackson. She reminds me too much of Paris (who I hated) from last season!!!  :hand:

rudy i agree with you!!!

u know the talent sucks when the ratio of a 2 hour show is 1-6 1 being the good and 6 being the bad...lol but i still love to watch those who think thye are all that!!! the first girl...they made it over dramatic....
who else though jewel was bit of a !@#$ last night...I thought that woman was nicer than that!! lol

First, I hate the guest judges, they add nothing to what Simon, Randy and Paula bring to the table. And Jewel, gross.

The first girl, I just laughed and laughed at. That was almost too funny, and the guy who was juggling the sticks, I laughed my ass off at him. He totally broke down, which made it even funnier. People are retarded!! I am looking forward to the people tonight!

What about the girl who imitated and sang like the cowardly lion in the Wizard of Oz?  OMG, that was HORRIBLE!!!!  Or what about the last girl with the heavy black eye makeup and short blond hair who has had 10 years training.  I loved Jewels comment to that:  "you got ripped off" (something like that).   :rotf: :rotf:

These people are either delusional to think they really can sing or just want to be on the show....or both. :groan:

Hey now check out the signature! Idol watchers know and should know by now that the audition episodes are horrible, regardless if there is talent or not the majority of this part shows the bad people. That's why I hate it so much, I want to see the talent, the bad people aren't entertaining anymore.

I can't argue with you there much, BballKates. I know that in the audition rounds, they mostly show us the "worst of the worst"!!!

But still, didn't they say only 17 of the nearly 10,000 Hollywood hopefuls moved on!!! That's not very good!!!

I watched it last night with my hubby and I thought it was okay at best.

I feel like this is a competion on " The Next William Hung".

Most of these ppl know they can't sing and go on the show just to be on tv. That was funny the first few years but now its just annoying.  I don't know if I just got old over night, but I don't have the attention span for this crap  :groan:. Paula isn't even into it anymore. At one point she looked half asleep or half drunk

The best part of the show for me is when they do get to Hollywood. The gimmicks are gone.  :woohoo:

Well, Paula looked half drunk mostly because she probably was.

But I totally disagree about the auditions. These people have built themselves up soooo much in life, that they don't have touch with Reality anymore. It is so much fun to hear these people sing awful, and I do think that SOME of them think they can REALLY sing. Especially that first girl who broke down. You cannot tell me that wasn't funny? LOL Maybe I am just an ass, and enjoy that stuff, but I still think the auditions are the best.

They are not designed to show the best, that is what Hollywood is for, it is designed to show us th worst. The great thing about AI is that it is basically 3 shows, Auditions, Hollywood, The Finals. Very good show!!

Oh, don't get me wrong. I understand the design of the show, but I am just saying that there seems to be more ppl doing gimmicky things just to be on tv knowing they can't sing.

With they way they edit the show, it dosen't look like the judges are in the room for half the madness that we see. It's like they <judges> are reacting to a monitor or something. I don't know, like I said maybe I am just getting to old. lol

Also they did a terrible job of editing. For example last night when the obsessive AI fan came out you could hear, Denise, the crack baby doing her audition. It just felt predictable and dragged. Also I can guarantee you they bypass good people early on to let lousy people through. In the first round of auditions they heard you into a big stadium and line you up a table for who knows, random camera guys who work for AI to listen to you sing for 2 seconds. I highly doubt they get a good read on talent, it's just ridiculous. Instead of letting bad people through why not actually get credible people to listen to the preliminary auditions.

I agree, they need to do a better job at showing the judges. It seems like it is very forced edited.

Tonight was not much better. The girl who sang Celine had quite the voice for a 16 year old and I liked the guy with the afro. Still no one that has blown me away or at least made me think they can win the show. Gosh I really hope it get's better.

:rotf:  The "lion gal" was hilariously ridiculous!!  And how about that guy dressed as "Apollo Creed" ...suited like Unc Sam with boxing gloves!  Yikes! For a guy who actually could sing arias, I don't think he really wanted to be picked!! He was just there for the attention as are most of the duds.  Most are truly sincere...they just don't realize they do NOT have talent.
:groan:  In the meantime, we get plenty of laughs from the auditions, so it's worth it!   :lolmao:

Puddin ...... I thought you said Seattle was a better night for auditions!!! I guess it was, but not by much.

I thought the best of the night, was the "beat box" guy, with the crazy hair. Anybody else think he reminds them of Travis from So You Think You Can Dance?

Also pretty good was Rudy. He was (I think) the last guy to sing on day one. He did a song from Journey, and Simon didn't like him.

The best female of the night was 16yo Jordin. Don't remember much else about her.

Funniest moments were ....

Mischa (needs a bra, bad hair girl) who was there with her mother, and Nick Zitsmann, the software salesman with the crazy eyes!!!

In Minneapolis:

Sarah Krueger was the Best!  I see her going far!

The Navy guy, Jarrod Fowler, stationed on the USS Ronald Reagan was purdy good as was blondie Michelle Steingas.  She had a hint of country in her voice.

The gal who repairs cars, in the Reserves & hubby in Iraq...did a good job. She needs a new hairdoo tho!

Matt Sato singing California Dreamin was good.

I must still watch the Seattle tape! :waves:

Actually puddin, I think they are going to be in Memphis!!!

The south has been very good to American Idol over the years. Goodness knows they are already needing some help this season!!!

I did a breakdown of the Top 12 from each of the five seasons. Here are the leaders ........

California 8
North Carolina 5
Georgia 5
Texas 5
Florida 4
New York 4
Alabama 3
Tennessee 3
Ohio 3

When you look at only the top 5 ........

Alabama 3
North Carolina 3
Georgia 3
Texas 3
Tennessee 2
California 2
Ohio 2

Who made top 3 ........ Only 10 states represented!!! Seven of them are southern states!!!

Top 2 picks ......... Seven of the 10 contestants are from the south.

Winners ........ Four of the five winners are from southern states.

Does this mean that there are better singers in the south, or that people from the south just watch more television and vote more often?  :lolmao:

Rob, if ever someone is in need of an invervention it is her. LOL She needs foundation assistance!   :rotf:

I can't wait till the Memphis audtion to see who Simon gave a thousand times yes! I've never heard him say that before.

What I love about the auditions is in amongst the horrid, you can get a glimpse of the really good ones like last year's Kellie, Mandisa, Paris who shined at the auditions. Taylor also stood out in his with Paula and Randy giving him his trip to Hollywood, while Simon hated him. It was clear he was something new and different.

I looked at the audition schedule for Season 6.

The first city they went to was Los Angeles, followed by ......

San Antonio
New York
Birmingham
Memphis
Minneapolis
Seattle

So they are "showing sort" of showing them in reverse order. I read on another board that they only sent about 33 Hollywood hopefuls from Minneapolis and Seattle combined. And I read in TV Guide that they got 173 total this season. So that means that they still need 140 from the last 5 cities, or an average of 28 from each!!!

Cowell’s bullying goes beyond the pale

AMERICAN EVIL: It’s a good thing that a healthy number of Idol viewers are in junior high or high school, because they’ll be familiar with the dynamic at work on last week’s controversial Seattle episode. A story in Friday’s New York Times reported that Idol had reached “a new low ... when (Idol judge Simon) Cowell likened one contestant to a jungle creature, evoking hysterical laughter from his fellow judges Paula Abdul and Randy Jackson. Mr. Cowell also poked fun at the physical appearance of a contestant who appeared to be mentally handicapped.”

The Times is referring to Kenneth Briggs and Jonathan Jayne, who met waiting in line to audition for the show in Seattle, and contributed to what is considered a highlight – or lowlight, depending on your perspective – of the season so far. It’s undeniable that the Seattle auditions were a painful experience for all involved, and if you were feeling generous, you might excuse Cowell’s mean-spirited treatment of two of the most dismal hopefuls as a cry for help from a man at the end of his moral and emotional tether.

You could also view it as enforcement of standards, from someone tasked with the job of gatekeeper in a closed society with its own rules and rituals – much like the position of bullies in high school. Like the hopeless nerds and misfits in high school, Briggs was obviously desperate for an upgrade in status and – blind to his own shortcomings – saw Idol as his way up.

In a high school environment, he’d suffer regular smackdowns from the unofficial gatekeepers – i.e. bullies, teachers, almost any girl – as part of a harrowing process that would eventually reveal whatever real talent he actually had. Over the horizon, college beckons, with its promises of a new start, a chance to acquire real qualifications, and even revenge. A decade or so after high school, someone like Mr. Briggs could be a millionaire entrepreneur, a politician, or a hopeless mediocrity.

Sadly, high school is probably over for Mr. Briggs, and he’ll probably always be known as “the Bush Baby guy from Idol” – a consequence of a decision he made, as an adult, with consequences to be assumed as an adult. Unfortunately, the Times reported that Jonathan Jayne seems to actually be mentally handicapped, as an “online biography from a private school in Seattle where Mr. Jayne graduated in 2004 notes that his hobbies include participating in the Special Olympics in several sports.”

Which makes Simon Cowell look like the sort of high school bully who never gets dates, because girls won’t go to the prom with a jerk who waits for the short bus to pull up so he can call the kids with branded lunchboxes “’tards.” Which puts the New York Times in the position of the principal, who calls bullies like Cowell into the office to tell them that their behaviour is unacceptable, and to insist that they apologize to Mr. Jayne. Which he’d do, while planning to plant a dog turd in Mr. Jayne’s lunchbox. In the real world, Cowell has to continue sitting on Idol judges’ dais – not punishment enough, at least for this writer, but punishment notwithstanding.

All this complaining about the judges being meaner than usual is stupid. First off this show is on the air for its 6th season it should be expected. Also being an religious viewer of the show I actually think that Simon has been rather tame and Randy has been more mean than usual. It's entertainment people know they are going to get made fun of, let's just move on.

Very excited for tonight, I'm hoping we see lots of good talent.

I agree with you. Randy has been much more cutting with his comments. But this is to be expected. Why do they try when it is obvious they they have no talent. Someone should tell them that you are in for ridicule if you do this. (Although I think some apply just to get their 15 minutes.)   :whoop:

Wow ........ that was quick work on the vidcaps puddin!!!

He's not really my friend, just used to live here, went to the local university, and worked as children's pastor at a local church. Obviously I was wrong about his wife. I re-read the email I received about him. The woman pictured with him is the one who sent the email to my sister-in-law, who then sent it to me. She is just a good friend of the family, and goes to church with him now!!!

He seems like a great guy, so I wish him lots of luck!!!  :dancer:

My favorites tonight:

Sundance
Ben, I believe that was his name, the guy with the really long hair and beard.

Still not a whole lot of talent though, only 22 got through.

IMO, Sundance is going far, possibly to the top 4!

Jason "Sundance" Head is a chubby guy with a goatee.  The judges were all really impressed with him!  Simon said he probably has one of the best voices in the auditions....in every way. Then just before the guy left, Simon said,  "I'm gonna be amazed if you don't make the finals!"  Before that, Randy said, "100 million percent! This boy's daBomb!"   Paula: "Great audition, Great voice".

Hey Tanny!  Cool that one of your hometown guys made it to Hollywood & I wish him lotsa luck! He has a purdy good voice.  Is it my imagination or does he resemble Season 5's Chris Daughtry?!

I checked my tape to make sure, and the guy wearing a cap with the long hair and beard is Sean Michel.

Paula thought he had a nice tone to his voice, didn't expect it, and said it's kind of soulful.  Randy: 100% Yes---doesn't matter what you look like--you can Blow!
Simon: we were expecting something ??? revolution, but YES.
(sorry, with Simon's accent, couldn't figure out what he said before "revolution"! )

My favorite from Memphis, Sundance.

What will be interesting is the evolution (if there is one) of these two guys. Sundance and Mr. Castro Revolutionary. Once they get into the final 12 AI begins to help them groom their look. I hope the hair and beard get trimmed at least or I don't see Revolution lasting.

I also loved the blond girl that Randy didn't care for. I thought she had an interesting voice. I don't remember her name... Danielle?

My other favorite of the night was the black backup singer, Melinda. I hope she gets some confidence. If she does she will go far.

about the story i pasted...i was just trying to emphasize what they were saying about the big kid friends with "bush baby" his activities were participating in the Special Olympics.  Sometimes when there is a visible disability present...they could be a little nicer...Like that poor girl with the HUGE Jaw...she didn't speak clearly to begin with and you can see a disability....they could have been nicer.

last night was ok...i hope tonight makes me laugh harder!! Sundance Head...what a NAME!!  I burst out laughing...is his name sundance?? or jason?!?!?!

They could be nicer to those who are clearly disabled. When my hubby and I first saw the 2 guys bonding, I thought it was from last year. I kept asking him are you SURE this isn't from last year?  Didn't they have a similar duo just like this?  :umn:

Surely they could find other's to put on that deserve to be called out like the one who had such a foul mouth last year that they had to bleep out every other word.  :o

Loved Sundance though.

haha, I knew that guy looked familiar!  Tks for jogging my memory!
I was thinking the same thing about the hair/beard getting trimmed at some point...sooner the better so he can not only look better, but get used to it!

Ya know, she isn't a great looker, but she's really a sweet gal and wow can she belt it out!!  Now if she just hangs in there, gets confidence & doesn't buckle under pressure, she will go far.  Simon said she's in the top 2% of good singers.
Wishing her the best of luck!

Ian is such a MORON!!! Did anyone else catch what he said at the end during his interview?!?!?!  He said he was going to call NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC to find out if Simon had a work visa!!!!! I Was dying!!!!

So that 16year old boy who was adopted...He totally looks like Tyson Beckford (sp??)  No one blew me out of the water last night!!! I'm glad Nick is back...I liked him last year....He should have sang Buttercup just to prove he's serious this time around!!! lol

The last girl at the end of of the 2nd day (so last audition for New York)  OMG She sounded like she was having an Org@sm....I was laughing so hard I woke up my family (I don't watch AI Live...too many commericals)

What city is next??? I'm still not convinced on anyone!

I haven't watched my tape to comment much on my fav(s) in Birmingham, but the one I do recall is the bushy-haired chubby guy.  He's not only a good singer, but FUNNY!  He should be very entertaining!  ;D

I think Jeff was speaking with tongue-in-cheek humour.  That line is one of Simon's retorts on the show.   ;D

You think, Kogs? Hmmm...I didn't start watching until Season5.  So in the first seasons, didn't they have the crazy attention-getters with absolutely NO talent, and hopelessly lame?  ???

You're right, Bashful!  I thought that line sounded a bit familiar.  Yeh, Simon said "I have no idea what this show is about anymore" more than once this season!

I've wondered why they let the crazies in the door except to show us the reality of how desperate some peeps are for attention.  And it gives AI extra publicity.  I mean look as us here...yaking about it!!  Why?  Because it is disgustingly/sometimes hilariously, entertaining!

I wonder...would we really not want them to include this stuff?  What other talent show other than "So you think you can dance" has this crazy stuff?

Are you talking about X-Factor or Pop Idol? I wouldn't say X-Factor is boring. They allow groups and people over the age of 25 to compete which I think makes things very interesting. It's a different format.
