RIP Bobby Hamilton, who would have guessed he was only 49?

Hamilton, 49, dies after battle with neck cancer

Bobby Hamilton, the 2004 Craftsman Truck Series champion and a four-time winner in the Cup Series, died Sunday. He was 49.

Hamilton, a native of Nashville, Tenn., had been battling cancer for nearly a year. He announced in March 2006 that he was undergoing treatment for neck cancer. He immediately turned over his driving duties in the Craftsman Truck Series to his son, Bobby Hamilton Jr.

"He will be greatly missed as a husband, a father, a grandfather, an owner and a friend," Hamilton's family said in a statement. "We want to thank everyone for their love and support of our racing operation and the outpouring of care and concern during his cancer battle. One of Bobby's greatest loves in life was racing and we will continue on in his honor."
In addition to Bobby Jr., Hamilton is survived by wife Lori and a granddaughter.

Raines, Johnson top first preseason test session
Blaney gets Toyota going with pair of top-11 times around Daytona

If Jimmie Johnson was bothered by the splint on his wrist, it didn't show Monday during the first testing session of Preseason Thunder at Daytona International Speedway.

Johnson, the 2006 Nextel Cup champion who broke his wrist during a charity golf tournament in December, posted the second-fastest time in the morning session. Johnson sped around Daytona in 48.948 seconds.

Tony Raines led the session in the No. 96 Chevrolet, with a time of 48.920.

Dave Blaney got newcomer Toyota off to a fast start. Blaney had the third-best time in the No. 22 Camry at 48.978 seconds. Blaney also posted the 11th-fastest time.

Rain washed out the afternoon test session. NASCAR will allow teams to extend the scheduled three-day test to Thursday morning.

Hamilton Sr. will be missed around the track.  :'( He was always such a cheerful guy!!!

Benny Parsons could be the next to go. He is currently in ICU, battling lung cancer!!!

Yes, golf is such the contact sport!!!   How in the heck did he get hurt playing golf? Did he crash his golf cart while bump drafting?  :lol3:

BTW puddin, how do you think Toyota is gonna do during their first season?

Toyota seeking speed after Tuesday morning

McLaughlin posts two top-10 times; McMurray leads session

Mike McLaughlin could get used to the No. 20 Chevrolet. He certainly was on Tuesday morning.

McLaughlin, who is substituting for Tony Stewart, had the second-best time (48.918) during the morning test session of Day 2 at Jackson-Hewitt Preseason Thunder from Daytona. His other time placed him ninth on the charts, making him the only driver to post two top-10 laps.

Jamie McMurray led the session with a time of 48.889, although his other time posted at 29th on the list.

Fords and Chevrolets packed the top 10. The fastest Dodge showed up 13th, driven by Reed Sorenson.

Dale Jarrett had the fastest Toyota of the session, clocking a time of 49.101, good enough for 14th.

You know I'll be playing!!!  :dancer:

Today or tomorrow I should get the prices of the drivers for my league here at work. After finishing in the money in '05, I didn't do as well last season. I coulda/shoulda finished in the money last season, and would have if I had picked Harvick instead of Biffle for my eight man team. They were about the same price!!! Biffle and Edwards killed me both halves!!!  :groan:
Once I get the prices, I'll let you help me again!!!

I finished about 7th out of 20 in one of my Yahoo leagues, and 18th out of 40+ in another Yahoo league. I was top 10 second half in the FOX league you dropped out of. Didn't do too well in the Stockcar Challenge league that I am in with you. And I finished 2nd in my six teamer Ultimate Nascar league!!!

We keep saying it, but do you think we could get in a six teamer league together? About the only way, would be to sign-up at the exact same time, and hope to be put in the same league. If we're both gonna play anyway, let try it!!!  :jumpy:

Team with you ....... no. Kick you butt as an opponent .......  :yess:

I was hoping we could somehow sign up at the same time, and get put in one of the leagues together.

I just went to the site and looked at the rules. It says I can set up a private league, then I give you the name and password for you to join. Then it says I can release the league, and let anyone join it just like a public league. That way we could be assured of being in it together. We could also let some others we know in it if they want, before opening it up to the public. Only six teams allowed.

What do ya say, chicken?  ;)

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - Benny Parsons, 65, a former taxi driver turned NASCAR champion, died Tuesday from complications stemming from his short battle with lung cancer, his son Keith said. He died at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, N.C. where he had been hospitalized since Dec. 26.

Parsons was inducted into the International Motorsports Hall of Fame in 1994, and was named one of NASCAR's 50 greatest drivers. Parsons retired from racing in 1988 and moved into the broadcasting booth. He spent the past six years as a commentator on NBC and TNT, and continued to call races from the booth during his treatment.

"Benny was a beloved and widely respected member of the NASCAR community, and of the NBC Sports family," said Dick Ebersol, chairman of NBC Sports.

"He was a great driver and a terrific broadcaster, but above anything else he was a kind and generous human being. His character and spirit will define how he is remembered by all of us. Benny will be sorely missed."

Anyone want to join a fantasy NASCAR league?   The league will only have six people in it, competing in a head to head format each week. I have one spot, and one spot is reserved for puddin!!! That only leaves four more spots for the rest of you knuckleheads to fight over   !!!

Once the league is full, we will start the "auction" which will last for 24 hours. During that 24 hours, you may bid on any driver at anytime. You will have $100 to spend on four drivers. Don't get caught sitting on your money ....... spend it!!!  :yess:

If you want to join, here is the info ...........

tanbuns77 has created a league in "Ultimate NASCAR Fantasy League", and you're invited to join!  It's totally free, and it's totally fun!

For more information, or to join the league, follow this link:

http://unfl.fantasy.nascar.com/nleagues.nufl

The password for tanbuns77's league is: TRUEX78215
