EP9: 'Being Polite Sucks Sometimes ' * video !! *

CBS Press:

Sunday, Nov. 12      THE AMAZING RACE 10 --Every second counts as the
(8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT)   remaining teams make their way through Helsinki.  Phil Keoghan hosts.

Turku & Helsinki, Finland  ( 6/16)

Tarballs
More info about the Finland spoiler: Some teams and camera crews were spotted at Turku's railway station at 5:20 pm last friday. Teams drove off towards east with Mercedeses. I'll try to get some info about how many teams were seen, or what they looked like.

Signal

Here's some pics in a train from Tampere to Turku :)
http://viltsu.net/gallery/v/Yhteiset/Matkat/Turku2006/
I heard from a reliable source that some woman had talked with one couple in the train and the couple said that they had flown from Madagascar to Helsinki and from Helsinki to Tampere and Ylöjärvi and then they had to travel with a train to Turku where they must find the cars and drive to quarry mines in Lohja. What happened after that is unknown.

Signal checks in with more details!

I've read and heard about people seeing the contestants climbing in the Olympic Stadium's tower in Helsinki, and Phil was spotted in a park/restaurant in Helsinki, wich could also be true.
"Yes, they were also in Tampere week ago friday (june 16th), or actually Ylöjärvi, close to my home. I heard about it from my aunt who drives a taxi, and she had taken one couple from Tampere train station to Ylöjärvi and back. They were hurrying to catch the train to Turku. My aunt was first a bit shocked when few dark skinned americans passed others in the queue and jumped to the car with a man sitting on the front seat who had a  huge camera"

There was another sighting at the Helsinki train station june 16th. A "chinese" looking couple was seen running in the station with a camera man, and they had two other couples following them

Signal checks in with more info !!
Oh and also there is some info about their "task" in Ylöjärvi. Obviously it was some kind of obstacle course at swamp
The landowner of the area is keeping his mouth shut, but nearby neighbours reported a helicopter and lots of people including security who kept the nosy ones far. The famous clue box was also seen there.
:update:
Signal
And I have scan for you, puddin :D
I also translated it. Here is the scan of article

And here's what it says:

AMAZING RACE WAS HERE?

If the travelling route of Amazing Race would finally reach Finland, then where would
the american reality-tv makers head for? Cultural sights that we don't have, or to the
crowded national parks in Lapland? Eyewitnesses have said that production crew looking
very much like the Amazing Race was seen in the middle on June on obstacle course at swamp
in Ylöjärvi.
Foreign production crew with fire trucks and helicopters circling the sky didn't go
unnoticed by local residents, even thought that security personnel kindly prevented the curious ones
to not come too close. Contestants speaking english ran with yellow/black envelopes and cameramen
filming also a box matching the descriptions of the series clue box on a nearby road.

The area is privately owned beautiful swamp area, which in this time of year has nests of cranes
and swans. At winter the 40 hectare swamp is used for skiing. Owner of the land area is not saying anything,
and the production team is not revealing the routes of the still unseen episodes.
If Amazing Race really visited on Pirkanmaa region, it will still take years until the
episode is seen here. Latest season shown by MTV3 was season 5, but in the US the season
currently on production would be 10th.

Tyler
James & Kandice errr or is that Dustin ? lol

Wet " Swampy " shoes & socks?

adding this :
mwooden :
Thanks, Signal! That clears some things up.

ETA: Here's a possible Finland timeline...

DEPART Madagascar on June 15
Flights leave Antananarivo at 12:50am, arrive in Helsinki at either 4:25 or 7:25pm
Teams are bunched somewhere (tower at Helsinki Olympic Stadium) until morning of 6/16
Gates open at 9:00am? (according to website)
Teams climb tower (roadblock?)
Take 2 hour train trip to Tampere, arrive around noon?
Go to Ylojarvi (arrive around 12:30), do task (detour)?
Go back to Tampere train station
Take 2 hour train trip to Turku (depart around 3:00?)
Depart Turku around 5:20 (time teams were sighted)
Teams proceed to Lohja (arrive around 7:30? Signal -- 2 hours to get from Turku to Lohja?)
Do something at mines in Lohja?
Pitstop?

Seems like a lot of driving, but not unreasonable timing-wise.

I did some aimless Googling and found this site about the mines in Lohja. I especially liked the fact that they have
Quote
"other times for groups
and private event by agreement"
.

But it is kind of sad that they have a mining task and David  probably won't be there to shine!

Also found this former limestone mine/quarry
And this about the Tyteri limestone mines
And this about the the Lohja museums, including the mining museum, where "visitors can test their courage on the adventure trail".
There is even a Light Show!

And more: Here's the Map for Turku to Lohja--about 2 hours 17 minute drive...

And Tyteri mine elevator shaft

And a photo of the Lohja Museum

And Beauty Queen to Beauty Queen!

Okay, I think I'm done now... :carryon:    :js:

So... if they don't arrive in Lohya till at least 7:30 or so and still have to do a mine task and make it to the pitstop, it might be at least 9 or 9:30 PM when they finish (keeping in mind that in June that far north there would still be daylight till 10-11 PM).

Lohya is only about 45 minutes to 1 hour from the airport, but allowing for security, flight booking. etc seems like they might need more like 3.

Since the next leg is almost certainly Helsinki--Kiev (GO puddin!) there are a few flight options

You can fly into Kiev-Borispol   (about 25 miles out of the city), or Kiev--Metro(about 5 miles out of the city), or into Odessa (about 7 miles from Kiev) link

Using Kiev-Metro for 6/17/06. you get:

So...if I'm reading this right, they probably wouldn't have time to make any of the AM flights, meaning they'll all have to take the 6-7PM ones--leaving airport bunching in Helsinki and late arrival in Kiev, meaning hours of operation bunching too. But if someone does arrive in Lohja early enough to be able to get those AM flights. they would have a HUGE lead!

Is there anywhere/anyone who could teach me how to print a chart/timetable/ticket thingy? So it doesn't come out all vertical? Thanks again!

Do we know who is eliminated for sure?  I mean is it David & Mary?  If so, something interesting:

You know how Rob & Trevor said they feel it was not a predetermined non elimination because D&M got both of them.  In other words, the producers knew so they could be kept around.

IF that's true, then something else.  On Regis & Kelly, they said they will have the latest people eliminated from TAR next Monday.  Why now?  They haven't had any other teams on the show.  Do they know it might be D&M??

I'm rambling I know.  Tell me what you think of all this.   :umn:   I just find it interesting and "coincidental"  that all this revolves around them.

Onto my next cup of coffee! :mornin:

Well since we see several teams competiting in teh skiing, obsticle course, swing, carry , and climb task.  I would assume that it is the first event of the day (ie due to bunching).

I would then assume train ride (with the chance to clean up and change, going to the face forward repel (which looks considerable ahrder then the one in season 4, and since both team members have safety gear on in looks like either a general tasks (like climbing the Great Wall) or a detour if the course event earlier is not a detour and just a task to complete  to get to the next route marker).

Then the roadblock at night going to the Pit Stop.
