Heh. The Taiwanese commercial (Episode 2 Preview) is so totally overboard with the hype...

"A million-dollar prize (not)...
... causes ten teams to 'destroy their humanity' (I really can't find a better way to translate this, but it's every bit as horrible as it sounds)...
... going through the most arduous experience known to mankind...
... a new reality TV show that will rock the whole of Asia...
... The Amazing Race: Asia, Monday 13 November, right after CSI at 11pm."

Come on!

AXN is showing a new series of commercials with a tie-in to Caltex, one of their (darned) sponsors. There's a nice little graphic in it showing various landmarks, some of which I don't think warrant even a mention if the race wasn't headed its way. Plus, it shows Sydney, which hardly constitutes as being in 'Asia'. Perhaps this commercial could yield some clues?

Taj Mahal, Agra, India

?

Burj Al-Arab, Dubai, UAE

Wat Chalong, Phuket, Thailand

Gateway of India, Mumbai, India

Merlion, Singapore

Opera House, Sydney, Australia

So... is this possible?

AXN did a 30-minute preview of TAR: Asia yesterday night, and boy do we have work to do!

GO-KART RACING, SOMEWHERE IN THE WORLD

My hunch tells me this should be at the go-kart track at Sepang F1 Circuit, but I don't have hard evidence. The suits are blatant product placements for Caltex.

Very, very, very good job with the identification of the locations
I just thought i could help you out with the Go-Kart racing section, that's why i registered   I'm 99% confident that the go-karting task takes place in The Shah Alam Go-Kart Circuit, next to the Shah Alam Stadium. Shah Alam is about 25km from Kuala Lumpur...

The reason I'm saying this is bcoz i spotted this while I was driving a few months back:

A closer zoom-in:

Sorry for the blurry pic... Took it using my camera-phone while i was driving... Anyways, it is clear enough to show the amazing race route marker on a "Persiaran Sukan" sign.. Persiaran Sukan is the road that loops around Shah Alam Stadium, and "sukan" is the malay word for sports.... While I was watching the videos on MSN soapbox, I couldn't help noticing one familiar area one of the teams were driving through:

In the photo you can notice the roofline of the building, and it looks like the roofline of several blocks of huge apartment buildings which are in Section 13, Shah Alam.. The palm trees that line up the road are also quite familiar, coz I pass that road almost daily... heheh

Here's a google earth screencap to help describe the area:

The yellow 'X' is where the route marker was placed... The red 'X' is the position where I think the team in the photo above were at... The go kart circuit is just above the red 'X', and the structure with the grey roof is the Shah Alam stadium...

Just to give a rough idea on when they did the shooting, the photo of the route marker that i spotted above was taken on 22nd May 2006, 5.33pm...

In this screencap(kuala lumpur, in front of pudu jail, near berjaya times square), there's a bunting of the NAM Coordinating Bureau Ministerial Meeting, which took place between 27 & 30 May... Those buntings are usually placed 1 or 2 weeks before the actual event, so the timeframe is pretty accurate.... They were in Kuala Lumpur around mid-May

I'm just a noobie in this investigating thing, but i find it interesting... hehehe.... It's more exciting to know that they came to where I live... but it's damn frustrating that I didn't spot the teams... haha... I would've driven one team throughout the whole Malaysian leg of the race if i had the opportunity.... Owh, I wanted to steal the route marker but something somewhere somehow told me "NO! The teams would get lost!"... the next morning I wanted to go back and steal it but it wasn't there anymore....  :'(

How can we watch this please?? Do we download that TvUP...something up-thread? Or is someone putting it up somewhere else?

Hmmm...do I really want to have another all consuming show to watch??

TVUP is fun ..I can watch our Amazing race again from the West coast channel. No worms no bugs..I recommend it.
I haven't figured out how to capture screencaps yet, thats TVUP's downfall.

If Francesca is wearing green in Indonesia, then...

...the dancing task is in Indonesia too. A hint of green is behind Sandy. Sandy has a tattoo.

:-\  TAR Neobie wrote on the TAR Asia AXN Forum:

Quote
The episode wasn't utterly and completely horrendous (came close, but not totally there yet); it just didn't have the polished feel of the CBS version. The editing was confusing and it was hard to keep track of the teams (although TAR1 did face the same problems in its first (and only the first) epsiode), so there's always that sense of confusion hanging in the air.

Like the teams though, THANK GOD they have some semblance of a personality. I'm ashamed to admit that there were moments that made me chuckle! Allan, though, just looks (and sounds) so uncomfortable giving his 'speeches'. Did we have to go through the "You are team number...

...

...

...

threeeeee." so many times, with the EXACT SAME expression?

Room for improvement, room for improvement. A D grade for now.

(Me being the TAR purist will naturally have somewhat high expectations.)

:groan:  So, who was eliminated?  OK, looks like it was a NEL.
