There's a Vietnamese veggie behind David. (next to his elbow) I see those a lot in Vietnamese vegetable markets. So in episode 2, they used some confessions from episode 3.

About this: "Teams discover they will not be given any additional money for this leg of the Race and must earn it instead."

Complete speculation, but could selling flowers be a side task for the teams to earn money? Earn as much as you want, but you're cutting into actual race time...

Is there any alternative to MegaUpload where I can get the videos? The stupid server won't let me download anything! (It's either all download slots are full or someone's stealing my IP address to download stuff...)

A billion zillion thanks Banzai! :hrt:

Regarding the Pit Start, there are four gates to the Hotel Mongolia. (Sounds familiar?) Only the main gate and the back gate have raised platforms in front of them, and the main gate has a red roof on the inside. (They're not starting in the carpark, are they?) I'm thinking it's at the back of the Hotel Mongolia...

No Halong Bay in sight, and Peter/Sarah's confessional is in a sort of a fort, something you'd never find in that area. Is it a fluke, or a double in Vietnam?

^^ You're right Neobie.
Check out the shirts, they're different. No wonder there're so many Vietnamese clips in the intro/flash.

I see flags so it's a government building?

I think I know where that is! Looks like the north end of Hoan Kiem Lake to me...

And I crossed that intersection just months ago! :jumpy:

:js:  Just thinking out loud here....

Assuming the Vietnam pitstop is Halong Bay (James & Tyler), then why are there two confessional locations in this leg. Peter & Sarah appear to be stading by a building in a big city.   (Hanoi is over 50 miles inland from Halong Bay).  And did Sarah grow six inches, or is Peter standing in a hole.

Building probably is NOT Hanoi Opera House, Presidential Palace, or any cathedral that I can find.

Two legs in Vietnam makes sense with the route spec and knocks out the first NZ sighting (the couple on a plane on June 2). We need a TBC and a NEL before Kuwait to make the Kuwait sightings fit. We should have 4 episodes before Kuwait, and we only need to get rid of 2 teams (Tom/Terry and Duke/Lauren). All other 7 teams are accounted for in Kuwait.

It's possible there may only be 3 episodes before Kuwait with some extended pitstops -- in that case, I bet we have a TBC this week or next and no NELs quite yet.

Maybe something like this for the next few legs? I can see production interested in mugging a team right before the super-long TBC leg. Could make things interesting.

EV: Hanoi confirmed by CBS
TASKS: detour involving coal, lotus selling roadblock
TEAMS: 8 left after episode (Pick ‘em – either Tom/Terry or Duke/Lauren eliminated)

EP4: Hanoi, Vietnam to Halong Bay, Vietnam
DATES: June 3-4, 2006
EV: Halong Bay testimonials
TASKS: UNKNOWN
TEAMS: NEL? 8 left after episode

EP5: Halong Bay, Vietnam to Devonport, New Zealand
DATES: June 5-6, 2006
EV: MissWendyWings at Sucks
TASKS: Naval base, old war tunnels
TEAMS: TO BE CONTINUED?

EP6: Devonport, New Zealand to ???
DATES: June 7-8, 2006
EV: UNKNOWN
TASKS: UNKNOWN
TEAMS: 7 left after episode (Peter/Sarah, Erwin/Godwin, Dustin/Kandace, Lynn/Karlyn, Tyler/James, David/Mary, Rob/Kim; pick ‘em – either Tom/Terry or Duke/Lauren eliminated)

EP7: ??? to Kuwait City, Kuwait
DATES: June 9-10, 2006
EV: Teams spotted in airport, confirmed by CBS, clock tower, oil fires

My neighbors are Vietnameses so they can translate anything for us. Here's one:
"Hương Vị Việt Nam" = the flavor of Viet Nam; it's a small restaurant; "Thuy Ta" is just a name of a business

at the top of the building is a propaganda: "Đảng Cộng Sản Việt Nam quang vinh muôn năm" = Vietnamese Communist Party shining forever

One blurb: 10/8
It's a safe bet that another surprising twist is coming around the bend as the remaining runners tackle their 4th challenge .
and another :
What in the world is next? Episode 4 shouldn't be a bore , if the shake-ups ( like that pre-pit elimination )we've already seen are any indication.

eta fwiw:
from the USA Today article
In Vietnam, the government insisted on viewing daily footage but didn't request any changes or cuts

also ETA :

the timeline at Twop's is worth checking out  ;) , the members rock !!

wow its quiet here  ? I searched 30,000 pictures for Sarah & Peters conf building with no luck .

anyway I've been thinking about the clues

CBS Web Clues :
Tempers flare between two teams when one thinks the other is playing unfairly .
Duh Tom & Jerry vs The Barbies

With no money in their pockets, one team is left behind while the others head off to their next destination.
Duke & Lauren but they catch up thanks to hours of operation

Another team loses their lead when they make a crucial mistake and board the wrong bus.
Hoping its Tom & Jerry  :snicker:

Teams discover they will not be given any additional money for this leg of the Race and must earn it instead.
Earn money selling flowers .
Finally, a route marker evokes strong emotions in the Racers as they reflect on the sorrowful memories of a past war.
David & Mary for one team  ..

Dustin & Kandice doing a Roadblock , Hanoi Hilton/ Maison Centrale Prison Gate ( thanks Boingo & Neobie !)

Translations are starting to come in:

medals on each side: commemoration
The revolutionists who got caught and prisoned here

central sign at the top of the building: In memory of the patriots and the revolutionists who fought and sacrificed bravely at this "Hoa Lo" prison (1899-1954)

Aren't all the teams bunched up at the Maison Centrale? Why are Dustin and Kandice alone? There must be something within to separate the teams... A simple search task for the clue? (Anything more and it might seem disrespectful to the past...)

Oh, another thing. No clue in hand? Are they just there way before the Hours of Operation?

If we get confessionals from both locations, neither of the Vietnam legs can be a TBC, right?

Well, if they have changed the cars, that's ok, but Rob/Kim's car isn't the same from eppy 2. As you can see, there are a few differences:

(From Eppy 2)

But Tom/Terry's seen to be the same (ow boy, doesn't he changes his clothes?)

See if these match up better ( from EP2) . maybe they got better jeeps  ? What I'm saying is the last pitstop was in Mongolia and the background sure doesn't look like Vietnam plus they are wearing heavy clothes unlike Vietnam . They have to drive somewhere in Mongolia right ? I don't think they walk ?
