Fast National ratings for Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2006

NBC got a strong performance from its "Law & Order: SVU" rerun Tuesday night, but that wasn't quite enough to move FOX out of the top spot in the ratings.

FOX averaged a 5.1 rating/9 share for the evening, a little better than NBC's 4.8/8. CBS finished third at 4.1/7, edging ABC's 4.0/7. Neither The WB, 1.3/2, nor UPN, 0.9/1, made much of a dent.

In the adults 18-49 demographic, FOX's 2.6 rating was just good enough to beat CBS' 2.5. ABC, 2.3, topped NBC, 2.2, for third. The WB and UPN both fell below 1.0.

A repeat of "House," 5.7/10, won the 8 p.m. hour for FOX. CBS was second for the hour with the special "JC Penney Jam: The Concert for America's Kids," which scored a 3.7/6. An hour of "According to Jim" averaged 3.5/6 for ABC, beating "Fear Factor," 3.2/6, on NBC. A "Gilmore Girls" rerun on The WB was fifth, and UPN's "Veronica Mars" trailed.

CBS grabbed the lead at 9 p.m. with "Big Brother: All-Stars," 5.0/8. NBC's "Law & Order: Criminal Intent" scored a 4.6/7, tying for second with FOX's rerun of the "Vanished" premiere. A second hour of "Jim" improved to 3.9/7 for ABC. A second "Gilmore Girls" kept The WB in fifth. UPN aired another episode of "Veronica Mars."

At 10 p.m., "SVU" grabbed the night's biggest audience with a 6.5/11. "Primetime: The Outsiders" drew a 4.6/8 for ABC, and CBS' "Rock Star: Supernova" averaged 3.8/6.
