I was surprised when Chris turned down the offer from Fuel. It could be because he had already been talking to Clive Davis. I remember Clive having some really good things to say about Chris, so I'm not surprised he has signed him.

Good luck Chris!!!

Ruben Studdard's new R&B album due out

Tue Aug 1, 5:50 PM ET  Yahoo News

NEW YORK -        Ruben Studdard returns to R&B with his third album, set for release Sept. 26. The album's title, "The Return," signifies his coming back to the mainstream after recording the 2004 gospel album, "I Need an Angel," Studdard said in a statement released Monday by J Records.

"I've had people ask me where I've been in the past few years so I thought calling it `The Return' made sense," said Studdard, who won Fox's "American Idol" talent competition in May 2003.

"The first track on the new record is `The Return of the Velvet Teddy Bear,' so I just shortened it and made it the title of my CD," the 27-year-old singer said. "With `The Return,' I'm letting all the people who've followed me from `American Idol' until now know that basically I'm back."

His debut album, "Soulful," was released in 2003.

I liked him when he was on AI, I thought Clay should have won, but Rueban's first album was horrible and it would have to be super good for me to even consider it.

Thanks for posting this though, I didn't even realize he had two albums!

(Had to modify this, I hated Rueban's album but liked Clays album.) :groan:

'American Idol' to Add Songwriters
Monday August 7 4:50 PM ET

http://tv.yahoo.com/news/ap/20060807/115499460000.html

Songwriters will get to add their voices to "American Idol" next season. The Fox TV contest, which has produced instant pop stars and hit records, will allow both professional and amateur songwriters to compete for the chance to write songs for the finalists, a spokesman for series creator Simon Fuller said Monday.

In the past, the show has called on an industry songwriter or producer to write an original song for each of the two finalists, with the new "idol" or even the runner-up consistently scoring best-selling records with the tunes.

Last season's winner Taylor Hicks is on the charts with "Do I Make You Proud," which he performed on the finale.

The songwriting contest is aimed at getting numbers that might be better matches for the contestants, Fuller told the Los Angeles Times.

Details of the new competition were not available, Fuller spokesman Eric Green said Monday.

Auditions for the sixth season of TV's top-rated series were scheduled to begin Tuesday at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena and continue in six other cities through September. "American Idol" returns in January.

Taylor Hicks sues producer over old recordings
Two songs written by ‘American Idol’ winner showed up for sale on iTunes

AP article at MSNBC.com
Updated: 5:37 p.m. MT Aug 24, 2006

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - A federal judge has temporarily barred a producer from selling songs recorded by “American Idol” winner Taylor Hicks when he was still just a gray-haired bar crooner from Alabama.

U.S. District Judge Virginia Emerson Hopkins issued the ruling Tuesday in a lawsuit filed by Hicks against William Smith of Nashville, Tenn., after two songs written and sung by Hicks showed up for sale on the iTunes Web site.

Smith, in an interview Thursday with The Associated Press, said the songs were no longer for sale. The judge scheduled a hearing for Aug. 30 on whether to make her order permanent.

‘Idol’ Hicks, producer settle lawsuit

Singer given possession of the master recordings of fought-over songs

Updated: 1:22 p.m. MT Sept 13, 2006

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Reigning “American Idol” Taylor Hicks has settled a lawsuit he brought against a Nashville producer over the rights to three songs he wrote and recorded before becoming a TV phenom.

Hicks gained possession of the master recordings of the songs under the deal, revealed Tuesday in documents filed in federal court in Hicks’ hometown of Birmingham. In exchange, Hicks agreed not to pursue further court action against producer William Smith, who recorded Hicks several years ago and recently placed some of the songs on the iTunes Web site for sale.

No money will change hands under the agreement, which an attorney for Hicks, Joe Leak, described as “amicable.”

Idol's Elliott Yamin Has Surgery

Monday Oct 02, 2006 8:00am EST

By Arnesa Howell

This season's American Idol third runner-up Elliott Yamin is recovering from an hour's worth of surgery last week after breaking his pinky finger on his left hand in a freak accident, PEOPLE has learned.

Yamin, 28, was picking up rocks and throwing them at a sign after visiting a nightspot in his hometown of Richmond, Va. when "his finger got caught on a rod holding down a rock," says someone close to the situation.

"My finger snapped back and broke. I had to get a plate and two screws and I'm wearing a cast," Yamin tells PEOPLE. "I'm doing okay. It's not hampering me."

The pinky will be on the mend for the next five to six weeks. Given the fact that he's right-handed, this should not get in the way of giving autographs.

"Everything is scheduled as planned. I'm good," says Yamin, who on Monday is due in Birmingham, Ala., to perform with the Little Memphis Blues Orchestra.

Well thank goodness it wasn't worse and he can continue his performance agenda!  :jumpy:

FWIW...I'm of the opinion that the 2007 tour isn't well received, b/c the Idols were simply not up to snuff as in past seasons.  Here's hoping the 2008 season brings much better talent and is oveall MUCH improved!  I want to feel really excited & enthused about the next Top 10!!  :jumpy:
