The 11 teams, including a Pizza Hut manager, a dentist, a science teacher, a children's minister, a retired physician and a valet, will compete against one another in a race around the world for a $1 million prize. THE AMAZING RACE 9 will begin with a special two-hour premiere on Tuesday, Feb. 28 (9:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network. Starting Tuesday March 7, the Amazing Race will move to its new timeslot from 10:00-11:00 PM ET/PT. Phil Keoghan is host of the series.

The race begins in Denver, Colorado when teams quickly jet off to their first location, Sao Paulo, Brazil where, upon landing, they must venture deep into the heart of the city to find their next clue at the Hotel Unique. Almost immediately, teams make their way by foot to Viaduto Santa Ifigenia, a pedestrian footbridge overlooking the highway and the Vale do Anhangabuau. One team struggles to locate the clue box, while other teams seem to find it with ease.

At the bridge, teams are faced with their first detour and must choose between finding a local motorcycle shop, where they will have to assemble a motorcycle from scratch, or soar high above the city of San Paolo in a helicopter in order to locate a specific building where they will find their next clue.

Interesting that we are an episode short. I don't think there's room for more travel with the dates, so maybe a clips show? Another TBC?

Knowing that we're not done in Brazil & that Russia comes next starts to lock up our route now. The Rome/Sicily/Greece legs might be interchangeable, but I'm putting Rome first because of the 9-team spoiler. I'm wondering if that spoiler might be just a little off though. If there were 8 teams left by then, that would make more sense. Maybe the "witness" saw extra supplies set up for the task, as has been the case before and assumed there were 9 teams. Unless we have an early NEL, which could mean there would still be 9 teams in Rome.

EPISODE 2 – 3/7/06
START: Sao Paulo, Brazil (November 9, 2005 AM)
FINISH: Brotas, Brazil (November 10, 2005 PM)
Take Santa Rita bus, do task at waterfall (roadblock?), ziplining, fuel task(?)
Possible location of VW bugs
TEAMS LEFT AFTER EPISODE: 9

EPISODE 3 – 3/14/06
START: Brotas, Brazil (November 11, 2005 AM)
FINISH: Moscow, Russia (November 13, 2005 early AM)
St. Basil’s, tomb of unknown soldier, diving task (roadblock?), doll/ballet detour(?)
TEAMS LEFT AFTER EPISODE: 8

EPISODE 4 – 3/21/06
START: Moscow, Russia (November 14, 2005 PM/afternoon)
FINISH: Rome, Italy (November 15, 2005 PM)
Mentioned by “witness”?, 9 teams remaining at this point, task assembling statue

EPISODE 5 -- 3/28/06
START: Rome, Italy (November 16, 2005 AM)
FINISH: Segesta, Sicily (November 16, 2005 late PM?)
Shots of ruins at Segesta, late afternoon shot of Joseph at Segesta amphitheatre

EPISODE 6 - 4/4/06
START: Segesta, Sicily (November 17, 2005 AM)
FINISH: Corinth, Greece by way of Athens (November 18, 2005 PM)
Parthenon in Athens, bungee jumping at canal in Corinth

EPISODE 7 – 4/11/06
START: Corinth, Greece (November 19, 2005 AM)
FINISH: Oman (November 21, 2005)
TV Guide article

EPISODE 8 – 4/18/06
START: Oman (November 22, 2005)
FINISH: Perth/Rottnest, Australia (November 24, 2005)
Sighting in Perth/Rottnest ON these dates at Woodside building, Fremantle prison, lunch stop

EPISODE 9 – 4/25/06
START: Perth/Rottnest, Australia (November 25, 2005)
FINISH: TO BE CONTINUED
This is a likely spot for a TBC leg, since we know they stay in the country until Darwin, which is not within easy driving distance of Perth (in other words, Perth & Darwin are probably not in the same episode), boat footage in preview could be ferry to Fremantle Prison (look at water off Perth on Google Earth compared to aerial shots of boat in TAR9 previews), snorkeling?

EPISODE 10 ( continued from Episode 8 ) – 5/2/06
START: PICK UP FROM TO BE CONTINUED (November 25/26, 2005)
FINISH: Darwin, Australia (November 26, 2005)
Crocodylus Park

EPISODE 11 – 5/9/06
START: Darwin, Australia (November 27, 2005)
FINISH: Lopburi Thailand (via Adelaide, Australia and/or Bangkok) (November 28, 2005)
Dates locked in because of monkey festival dates in Lopburi
Couple spotted in Adelaide trying to get to Bangkok

EPISODE 12 – 5/16/06
START: Lopburi, Thailand (November 29, 2005)
FINISH: Tokyo, Japan (November 30, 2005)
Shots of shopping district, Mt. Fuji

EPISODE 13 (HOUR 1) – 5/23/06
START: Tokyo, Japan (December 1, 2005)
FINISH: Anchorage, Alaska (December 2, 2005) – might be pit stop or just rest stop
K2 flying service, sighting in airport

EPISODE 13 (HOUR 2) – 5/23/06
START: Anchorage, Alaska (December 3, 2005)
FINISH: Denver, Colorado (December 3, 2005)

Just read this:  TAR will be making a change (temporary?) to Wednesday night @ 8pm.  They will fill Tuesdays slot with another drama.  Here is the link for the story:  http://blogs.mercurynews.com/aei/2006/03/the_amazing_rac.html

"The Amazing Race'' makes a change
Charlie McCollum, 02:41 PM in Charlie McCollum, TV

Fans of "The Amazing Race'' haven't been too happy with the show or CBS this  season. First, the fall cycle of the reality show involved a "family'' version of the race that didn't click with viewers.

Then, for the current cycle, the series was moved to 10 p.m. Tuesdays where viewership slumped because a lot of the audience liked to watch "Race'' with their kids who were in bed by 10. (The fact it was up against "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit'' didn't help.)

So, to boost ratings, CBS announced on Thursday that starting next week, "Race'' will air at 8 p.m. Wednesday in front of "Criminal Minds'' and "CSI: NY.'' The competition won't be as tough either although Fox's "Bones'' and NBC's "Deal or No Deal'' have been doing pretty well in that time period.

The 10 p.m. Tuesday slot will be filled by repeats of CBS drama, probably police procedurals like the "CSI'' shows. The two freshman comedies that had been filling the 8 p.m. Wednesday hour -- "Out of Practice'' and "Courting Alex'' -- go to the bench for the foreseeable future, suggesting their chances of renewed are now down to about zero.

I need someone to redo the schedule , where has our mwooden gone  :bny2: ..anyone else want to take a stab at it ?

we still have a big gap if Leg 8 is Nov 18th or 19th then how do we fill in up to the 23rd sightings in Perth ? are we missing a leg ? remember I still have that article where Phil says they make a stop in Africa ? or a 36 hour reststop ot longer ?

23/11 - filming at Rottnest Island Prison (near Perth)
24/11 - arrived in Darwin, went to Skycity hotel
25/11 - went to crocodile park
28/11 - “desperate-looking” couple running around airport in Adelaide

EPISODE 8 – 4/18/06
 NEL ?
START& End : Oman (November 18/19 , 2005)

EPISODE 9 – 4/25/06
START: Perth/Rottnest, Australia (November 23, 2005)
Sighting in Perth/Rottnest ON these dates at Woodside building, Fremantle prison, lunch stop

FINISH: TO BE CONTINUED
This is a likely spot for a TBC leg, since we know they stay in the country until Darwin, which is not within easy driving distance of Perth (in other words, Perth & Darwin are probably not in the same episode), boat footage in preview could be ferry to Fremantle Prison (look at water off Perth on Google Earth compared to aerial shots of boat in TAR9 previews), snorkeling?

EPISODE 10 ( continued from Episode 8 ) – 5/2/06
START: PICK UP FROM TO BE CONTINUED (November 25/26, 2005)
FINISH: Darwin, Australia (November 26, 2005)
Crocodylus Park

EPISODE 11 – 5/9/06
START: Darwin, Australia (November 27, 2005)
FINISH: Lopburi Thailand (via Adelaide, Australia and/or Bangkok) (November 28, 2005)
Dates locked in because of monkey festival dates in Lopburi
Couple spotted in Adelaide trying to get to Bangkok

EPISODE 12 – 5/16/06
START: Lopburi, Thailand (November 29, 2005)
FINISH: Tokyo, Japan (November 30, 2005)
Shots of shopping district, Mt. Fuji

EPISODE 13 (HOUR 1) – 5/23/06
START: Tokyo, Japan (December 1, 2005)
FINISH: Anchorage, Alaska (December 2, 2005) – might be pit stop or just rest stop
K2 flying service, sighting in airport

EPISODE 13 (HOUR 2) – 5/23/06
START: Anchorage, Alaska (December 3, 2005)
FINISH: Denver, Colorado (December 3, 2005)

Maybe we're further along than suspected. If Phil's call from the middle east was on November 21st then the Oman leg is a day or two later. Or .... there is a second middle east location that fills the gap????  But that might mess up the number of remaining episode.

Episode 9- Thailand

ChipnKim says the finale is May 17TH !

http://www.mldevents.com/TAR9Finale/

This date does make sense and fits in with the schedule on the CBS News website for the Travelocity award weekly contest. The last entry is to be made on May 13 after the May 10 telecast.  So my schedule looks like this:

Using Leg numbers and not episode numbers so my legs are one behind the episode number due to the TBC in Moscow:

Leg 7 - Telecast on April 19      N E L          5 Teams start 5 Teams finish

Leg 8 - Telecast on April 26      Philmatic      5 Teams start 4 Teams finish

Leg 9 - Telecast on May 3         N E L          4 Teams start 4 Teams finish

Leg 10- Telecast on May 10       Phlmatic      4 Teams start 3 Teams finish

Leg 11 -Telecast on May 17       FINISH Line  3 Teams start 3 Teams finish
or get stopped on the way to the finish line if they are farr behind the winners. This also could be a two-hour special with an overnight in Alaska on the way to the finish line back again at the Red Rock Amphitheatre outside of Denver.  The first TAR to end exactly where it started.

At the beginning of the series, Phil said that there would be 8 elimination legs without saying how many NEL's

(EP9: 'How's that Face Feel?' Nov. 22 from this thread )

'Amazing Race' scrambles across Utah tonight

Tonight's edition of CBS' "The Amazing Race 8" should be of special interest to Utahns - and not just because it's the popular reality TV series' 100th episode.
Almost the entire show was filmed in Utah - the first time in its history that "The Amazing Race" has visited the Beehive State. Contestants dashed from Lake Powell to Salt Lake City, with some scenic detours through Utah's redrock canyons, alpine valleys and northern mountains.

"We're showing off the whole state," host Phil Keoghan told The Salt Lake Tribune in a phone interview from somewhere - he wouldn't say - halfway around the world. "I can't say exactly where the show went. But the whole state is featured prominently,  and I think people will be very pleased. It looks beautiful."

On tonight's episode, the teams race their GMC Yukons from Monument Valley through Moab, Green River, Heber City and Park City before finishing in Salt Lake City, according to CBS-TV spokesman Mitch Graham. Contestants and crews spent three days in Utah shooting the episode last summer, Graham said.

Neither Graham nor Keoghan would reveal details about the teams' activities in Utah. But between CBS' Web site and the network's  previews of tonight's episode, some clues have emerged.

The previews show a contestant leaping off a ski jump and face-planting into a pool, something that could only happen at the Utah Olympic Park near Park City. And the Web site hints at teams receiving clues from "an 1,100-pound grizzly bear," which suggests a possible rendezvous with Heber City's Doug and Lynne Seus and their trained grizzly, Tank, star of such movies as "Dr. Dolittle 2."

"There will be some prominent landmarks featured," promised the typically secretive Keoghan by cell phone from the set of the show's ninth season, now shooting "somewhere near the Middle East." Keoghan has visited Park City for the Sundance Film Festival and hopes to race a car someday on the Bonneville Salt Flats.
"Utah is truly a spectacular part of the world," said the well-traveled host. "I've always enjoyed going there."
"The Amazing Race" is the fourth unscripted TV show to visit Utah in recent months. NBC's "Three Wishes" was shot in Cedar City, ABC's "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" was filmed in Bountiful and the syndicated program "Elimidate" was shot in Salt Lake City.
Utah tourism officials are thrilled about tonight's episode, which they view as free, prime-time publicity for the state's natural beauty.
"We know the reach of ["The Amazing Race"] is extensive," said Leigh von der Esch, managing director of the state's Office of Tourism. "To have a show showcasing our locales is terrific."

If it helps any, I went back and listened to Phil at Red Rocks. He said there would be 8 elimination stops. According to the leaderboard (http://www.cbs.com/primetime/amazing_race9/shows/ep07/route/leaderboard/) at the CBS site, they've already used 6 of the 8.

If the Grand Finale on May 17 is a two legged monster, then the first hour, Leg 11, could be a NEL (3 Teams start, 3 Teams finish) and the second hour could be Leg 12 the race to the finish line from Alaska to Denver.

Datestamp:  The Oman episode took place on either November 20th or 21st according to flights teams took from Athens to Oman. The only dates between Nov 18-21 that the hippies flight (Qatar 473) was possible was on November 19th or 20th.

Good job Sups, that ties in with Phil's interview during TAR8 on 11/21.

Did they show eat, sleep, mingle for this show?  There are some team-arrival-after dark clues to deal with.  To indicate greater than 12 pit stop that is.

Hi guys! Took a little hiatus there… there’s only one episode left that is NOT non-elimination. The NEL's are tough to figure out -- maybe a 4-team finale? Here’s route spec for the end of the race. The order is pretty much set. Don’t think Perth/Darwin will be combined – that’s about a 1700-mile stretch. So how do the last few legs break down? My guess is that the last hour of the finale is an Anchorage/Denver combo with some tricky editing to fit it all in. Here’s a best-guess approach…

EPISODE 9 – 4/26/06
START: Jabreen, Oman (November 22, 2005)
FINISH: Perth/Rottnest, Australia (November 24, 2005)
Sighting in Perth/Rottnest ON these dates at Woodside building, Fremantle prison, lunch stop
NEL? 5 teams remaining

EPISODE 10 – 5/3/06
START: Perth/Rottnest, Australia (November 25, 2005)
FINISH: Darwin, Australia (November 26, 2005)
Crocodylus Park
4 teams remaining

EPISODE 11 – 5/10/06
START: Darwin, Australia (November 27, 2005)
FINISH: Lopburi Thailand (via Adelaide, Australia and/or Bangkok) (November 28, 2005)
Dates locked in because of monkey festival dates in Lopburi
Couple spotted in Adelaide trying to get to Bangkok
NEL? 4 teams remaining

EPISODE 12 (HOUR 1) – 5/17/06
START: Lopburi, Thailand (November 29, 2005)
FINISH: Tokyo, Japan (November 30, 2005)
Shots of shopping district, Mt. Fuji
NEL? 4 teams remaining or maybe no pit stop in the middle

EPISODE 12 (HOUR 2) – 5/17/06
START: Tokyo, Japan (December 1, 2005)
FINISH: Denver, Colorado via Anchorage, Alaska (December 3, 2005)
K2 flying service, sighting in Alaska airport

It's definitely possible the dates on the route spec are off a day or two. Or maybe TAR paid something to keep the monkeys around an extra day for filming purposes -- don't know if they would have wanted to have been there on an actual festival day as it might have been harder to coordinate tasks with pre-planned ceremonies/events going on.

I forgot about the TBC leg earlier. That means there is one less NEL than I put in the schedule above and explains why there are 3 teams in the finale, not 4.
Title: Re: TAR9 Schedule
Post by: gingerman28 on April 21, 2006, 02:12:52 PM
Teams fly on November 19 (see close up of Barry ticket) from Athens to Muscat, Oman on Gulf Air flight 042 leaving at 2:35PM and arriving in Oman that same day at 10:30PM. Teams then have to wait until 6:00AM on November 20 to complete the two tasks for the Detour and the Roadblock and then drive to Jabreen for the pit stop.  Two teams arrive before sunset, the other three teams arrive in the dark.

So if it is a normal 12 hour pit stop they would be leaving Oman on November 21 arriving in Australia November 22. Of course, TPTB could be throwing in a 36 hour pit stop because the teams are pretty damn exhausted by now.  So they then could be leaving Oman on November 22 arriving in Perth/Fremantel on November 23.

There have only  been 6 elimination legs so far; Phil promised that we would have 8 by the end of the series.

That means that there could be only three teams left for the final two hour telecast on May 17.

AND keep in mind when teams fly from Japan to Seattle on to Anchorage that they will cross the INTERNATIONAL DATE LINE and will therefore land in Alaska on the same day that they leave Tokyo.

good question Gman !

from the spoilers

more, posted on 11/ 26
This mornings papers up here in Darwin said that the latest series of TAR was being filmed here. Contestants arrived Thurs night and rushed through the airport then yesterday they filmed at the Crocodile Park (all they do there is feed the snapping handbags and have animals on display so I guess there is a challenge to feed them (usually a chicken on a string off a pole). After this the paper said the contestants were then rushed off to another secret location. If they arrived late Thur night then they have either flown in from somewhere in asia or Melb or Syd (only international flights come in from Brunei, Indonesia or Singapore).

article post Nov 29th ( in tar days Nov 27th )
DID we see contestants from The Amazing Race in Adelaide?

Onlookers at Adelaide Airport on Sunday wondered what all the fuss was about when a desperate-looking couple attempted to book a capacity Singapore Airlines flight.
They also happened to be young, good-looking Americans carrying only backpacks, with a TV crew filming their every move.
They had boarding passes for a flight to Sydney, and after being told the Singapore Airlines flight was full, they ran back to the domestic terminal (bet they're wishing the new terminal was in operation).

I have an idea. Looking at airwise flights from Darwin to Bangkok  on Nov 25 and 26, flights are very limited. On the 25th only a 5:30a.m. and 3:45 p.m. Adelaide to Bangkok has many flights all day long -- maybe 1 to 2 hours apart. Someone trying to get ahead of the pack or catch up to them???? Maybe TPTB even charter a flight to Adelaide for them to catch flights from there.

ETA: My dates were a little off here but flights are similar every day. Only 1 or 2 flights from Darwin and tons of them from Adelaide.

FWIW - The only flight that shows on Nov 27th from Adelaide to Bangkok is at 12:05 p.m. and it does connect in Sydney.
Title: Re: TAR9 Schedule
Post by: woden on April 25, 2006, 11:04:41 AM
Doubt they'd bother with a decoy in Australia -- gotta be a connection thing. My guess is that other teams had a faster connection to Bangkok and that this team took a later connection thru Adelaide but were exploring their options once there to get them on to Bangkok a little sooner.
