Post by: gingerman28 on February 28, 2006, 07:16:24 PM: Playing with dolls means that the teams must search through a slew of MATRYOSHKA DOLLS, you know the ones that come apart and apart and apart until you reach the smallest one.

The pit stop must be at St. Basil's Cathedral since we see a team opening a clew envelope and counting money which means this is the start of the second day after the pit stop, so this also means that this team is still in the race and is heading to where - Rome?

Other places that the teams may have to find are the Tsar's Bell the Largest Bell in the world which broke when first rung and a 11 ton piece fell off; one of the largest cannons ever made the Tsar's Cannon and other places in the Kremlin and Red Square.

And if the teams thought the traffic was bad in Sao Paulo just wait until the reach Moscow where the drivers are probably the most undisciplined in the world - a red light just means to look to see if anyone is coming and if they are speed up!

Travelling on the Moscow Subway will probably be included. And wait until the teams try to find their way around with everything written in the Cyrillic Alphabet and just about unpronounceable. Fun times ahead!!

And this is the first time I can recall that proof positive of a teams position is shown in advance. If Eric and Jeremy are counting out money in front of St. Basil's Cathedral in Moscow it means that they survive Ep2 in Brazil and Ep3 in Moscow and are now on the beginning of leg4 to where? Rome?

Also if the teams are going from Brazil directly to Moscow they have a long journey ahead of them. There are no direct flights from Sao Paulo to Moscow; teams will have to make conncections in places such as Miami, New York, Washington, Frankfurt or Paris. Even if they go through RIo they will have to change airlines and planes in one of the other cities. All told they may be spending up to 36 hours or more in travel time.

but i do think that it's a double meaning and that both those teams survive until at least this episode. i can't see the sisters lasting much longer with their ineptitude. (ok, wishful thinking.) could be the swam song for eric/jeremy or the girls even?

Im actually feeling a non elimination, i would rather the NE's get done VERY EARLY, after having i think more than a month last seasons without a elimination

Probably so, Puddin. It looks like the first flights out of Sao Paolo to Moscow leave around 3 pm.

It appears that the first team to depart the pitstop will leave before sunrise so they will have plenty of time to perform a zip line task before getting to the airport.

I see no direct flights but Airwise does show flights leaving at 3:05 on Lufthansa and Varig. Both connect in Frankfurt and continue on Lufthansa arriving at either 12:10 or 1:25 p.m. the next day. There's also an AirFrance at 5:35 arriving at 3:15 p.m..

The dilemma that I saw was that different airlines fly to different airports in Moscow. For example, British Airways flys from GRU to SVO (Moscow) through London and Lufthansa flys for GRU to DME (Moscow) through Frankfurt. There are other airlines that fly through Madrid or Paris to Moscow.

I believe that the sun rose at 7:58AM on November 11 in Moscow. Sun sets at 4:28PM And since it looks like is just getting light in the sky and the buildings are taking shape I would estimate that the time is between 7 and 7:30AM. That means they might be ending their tasks in the dark around 7PM the day before.

Density:
I see 12”, 8”, 7”, and 6” dolls that have diameters of about one half their heights. I arranged on the 157 square feet of tabletop (gedanken experiment here) 58 of the 12” dolls, 88 of the 8” dolls, 100 of the 7” dolls, and 117 of the 6” dolls with a spatial coverage density of 80%. That means that, looking down, 80% of the table top is covered by a doll.

How Many Dolls:
Looking at the shot of dolls next to Lake I estimated 7 dolls inside the 6” doll. From that, just say that the 7” is 10 dolls, the 8” is 12 dolls, and the 12” is 14 dolls. It does not look like these dolls go to the extreme of the example I posted earlier. Working it all out there are 3804 dolls. Taking all the dolls apart would involve 3441 acts of separation.

How long to find a clue:
Assume that there are 9 clues hidden in the collection. Then the expected average number of separations a team would have to do is 382. Say that it takes 1 second to separate a doll. Then one racer should find a clue in 382 seconds or just over 6 min. Half that time for both doing the task. If it takes longer that one second to get a doll apart then the expected time gets longer in proportion. Sometimes they get stuck and it is hard to open them.

I'm thinking that if their separation speed is one per second then the fast finishers will be coming out in 3 or 4 minutes. If they have Marshall's luck (think chocolate) then they will have to open 80% of the dolls and that works out to 2753 separations which would take 23 min. If the dolls are fussy (think padlocks) and it takes 3 sec per separation then we are looking at 1 hour and 9 min. These times are corrected for having both racers working on the task.

1. The picture of Eric and Jeremy at the clue box has NOT been flipped. Notice that his jacket is buttoned left to right this is the way a man buttons his jacket (women do the opposite, but don't ask me why.) Also note that the center onion dome behind his is red; the center dome from the red square side is blue. This shot was taken outside of red square (I doubt the Russians would even allow CBS to set up multiple cameras etc in Red Square where access is very limited being next to the Prresidents office in the Kremlin which forms one side of Red Square (GUM department store forms the other). So I believe that this shot is in the plaza before you get to Red Square with Russia House to the right and the Kremlin to the left. For me it looks like the sun is just about to come up so it is probably around 7:30AM. The light on their faces is not from a rising sun, it is flood lights provided by the camera team.

2. The picture of the "wedding cake" building although similar to the one up in Sparrow Hills which is the Moscow State University is not of the University. The University is in a park setting up in Sparrow Hills (formerly known as Lenin Hills and offers a grand view over all of Moscow). This picture looks like it is on a busy street. It could possibley be the Foreign Ministry or the Ukraine Hotel two more of the seven Stalinist Gothic structures known as "wedding cakes". All of them are pretty much the same. The Foreign Ministry is on a very busy street Smolenskaya Ploshchad near the shopping area of Ulitsa Arbat. The Ukraine Hotel looks out over the Moscow River on one side but on the other side it is on Ulitsa Novyy Arbat which leads right from the river to Kremlin and Red Square. So it may be that this is from a cab heading toward the Kremlin: St. Basil's Cathedral, Alexander Gardens the site of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, Bolshoi Theatre, National Hotel and the Manege (more about this below)

3. The vidpix of the building with columns is I believe the Manege on Manezhnaya Ploshchad. It was built in 1817 as a parade ground for the military. After the roof collapsed in 1823 a clonnade and Frieze was added to the exterior and columns to the interior. It is now a central exhibition Hall and was the site of the famous Kruschev-Nixon debate. It is just west of the Kremlin. This could be the site of the dancers, orchestra and doll display.

Was looking at Chateau's ID of the vidcap location of the cars on the street, and it looks like they are racing to the pitstop as they are one block away from St. Basil's. Lot's of daylight, possibly late afternoon. Given the time on the clock, wouldn't that make the start of the next leg 12 hours later, possibly 4:25AM? :-\

Dont assume on WD safe. They are my pic to be gone based on like tradition of the last seasons [6 and 7]. Both of those seasons went A boy/boy team to be eliminated followed by two girl girl teams. The second girl girl team to be eliminated was a clueless team and the third girl girl team eliminated was on that had been doing very good in leg one and fell back in leg 2[Lina and Kristy and Debbie and Bianca] so i feel this points to Wanda and Deseriree if continues.

Also MANY teams were shown on the previews and to be eliminated. Ali and Donny, Kami and Karli, Meredith and Gretchen, Meredith and Maria, Lori and Bolo, Hayden and Aaron, The Godlewski's[Twice] just to name a few.

Maybe the roadblock is before the detour?? and thats why EJ are jumping in the day and arrive late at pit stop??? I know in Hungary after the were in the pool they dried rather quickly.

No way can the scene be shot at 4:25AM IT WOULD BE PITCH BLACK AT THAT HOUR since the sun does not rise until 7:59AM.

My guess is that it is actually 4:25PM. Note the number of people ("tourists") wandering around behind Eric and Jeremy; I don't think we would see that many people up and around at 4:25AM. The teams probably arrive in Moscow around noon after 15 hours of flying through 7 time zones and would be completely zonked out. So my guess is that TPTB may give them a 24 HOUR REST STOP. So if they finished their tasks at 4:25PM they would be starting off the next day at 4:25PM. The sun is setting not rising.

Then the camerman starts to pan right and down and you see two building entrances (2)--probably the ones I've marked with arrows in the Convent photo. The last cap (3) shows a small courtyard with a backpack (can't read the tag number). I've tried to puzzle out the sightline with no luck so far. If anybody wants a better look at Novodevichy, this site (http://www.rachko.com/moscow/gallery.php) has photos, a map (in Russian) and even a couple of videos.

It seats five, but we see at least 2 teams (plus driver, cameraman, and soundman) for a total of 7 people. My guess is that one team rides in the cargo area in the back (that's why we see their heads poking out over the seatbacks). Interesting that the camera guy is in the back seat.

Even more odd is that there are no open dolls thrown about. If you were looking for a particular doll or a clue within one you would open then throw or set aside. Look how Lake has each one open with the top and bottom side by side. And Eric/Jeremy are holding the open ones in their hands. Therefore, they must have to put the dolls back together before continuing (and maybe even put them back on the table) OR even worse -- I hope they aren't counting them!!!

In the first shot of Yolanda she looks as though she's just arrived and starting on an outside circle. She still has her jacket on and ponytail tight. Then we see her squatting or sitting at the inside of a circle with her jacket off and hair a little loose around her face. So its probably much later and there are still no empty spaces on the table or dolls on the floor.

Well if we go by pattern from the past two seasons[you know season 6 and 7], and being that most 9th place teams are girl/girl teams the only two teams in real jepordy are
Wanda and Desiree and Danielle and Dani

And Wanda while in the pool it looks to be getting dark quite darker than most other jumpers and shoulding it be getting dark at almost 3:00 being i thought i read the sun sets at like 4:00, i hate to say it but my gut tells me Wanda and Desiree will be eliminated, at least their edit YELLS their elimination. Like i said before when a team gets eliminated because they suck at doing something its usually previewed, rather than a time a team screws up and makes a mistake. And i looked slowly at the part with Wanda and Desiree, and they are all alone [if only one team can do this at a time i will stop watching becuase thats BS], and last eppy WD were shown to be just plain crappy racers, and prolly would have been eliminated or close to it, had Lake and Michelle not got lost going to the bus station.

you think the detour comes second then? Because on the after the show previews the dolls came before Wanda's disaster, who cant hold her breath for five seconds. [this is going to be the worst roadblock invented, if you cant do it [Wanda] and you dont have asthma[because that would be a good reason] you really arent in best shape for the race]

If teams arrive from Sao Paulo via Franfurt on Lufthansa at 12:05PM they might go first to the Novodevichiy Convent to find clue which takes them to the Chaika Sports Complex on Turchanoav Pereulok. This could take them to the 14.56 time we see on the wall when we see a female diver. This sure is the ROADBLOCK.

But is it possible that this ep only had the one Roadblock and no Detours with all nine teams having to make their way to the site of the nesting dolls (Matryoshka dolls)? Has there ever been a TAR ep with only the one Roadblock and no Detours? We have had programs with only a Detour and no roadblocks. And a lot of time seems to be spent on the zipline in Brazil, then 15 hours flying over seven time zones. So we may just have the one roadblock with everyone having to do the doll think. I think the site for the doll search is the Manege on Mokhovaya Ulitsa. It is the only building in the central area I can find with a colonnade. We have shot of Eric and Jeremy led by Yolanda running through the colonnade; the beach boys have the same knit watch caps on that they have on when we see them pawing through the dolls. The clue to be found here may send them around the corner to St. Basil's Cathedral which we are pretty sure is the pit stop for the first day in Moscow.

Chateau posted a map with a red line supposedly matching the shot of the car going down the street with a building with a colonnade on the right. I have checked all my references and pictures and I do no think that the street shown in the video is Ulitsa Varvarka. If it were the church on the left would be the Church of St. Barbara (and my pictures dooks entirely different). And this is quite different from the one shown. Also the building across the street would be the Old Merchant's Chambers now housing a shopping center and it looks different and does not have a colonnade on either side. So I think that this is different location from the one shown in the map leading toward St. Basil's Cathedral.

Back to the beginning of the ep. The first three teams probably leave the coffee plantation while it is still dark. But later we have a shot of the teams in the order they finished at the pit stop (BJ/Tyler in first, Eric and Jeremy in second, and Mo/Jo in third) and this is the order we have them running toward the camera. So I suspect that the first clue tells them to make their way to the Alaya Adventure Center which will be a bunch point with a pre-set opening time after the sun comes up. So it looks like these three teams will be the first teams to make the zip lline journey. Later still it looks like the same three teams are together at the bus station maybe waiting for a bus to take them back to Sao Paulo Airport and on to Moscow.

Oh well, it is Saturday night and being alone for the evening I had nothing better to do than put my random thoughts down on paper. Oh, where, oh where has my puddin gone?

Went back and found the name on the building and as others have found the crylic translates into Gostinyy dvor which in English is the Old Merchants Chambers but today has shops and holds exhibitions and performances in the covered yard. The building is fronted by a row of Corinthian columns! (Is this where we see Yolanda and the Beach Boys running?). The doll exhibition could be held here. By the way, across the street is the single domed Church of St. Maxim and the Church of St. Barbara the Martyr. Sorry, guys, but I was looking at the picture I took in front of Russia House and things were reversed. This is also just across the plaza from where we think the clue box and the matt are located.

So it may be that the teams start off by going to the Convent, then to the swim/dive pool and then on to Gostinyy to do the doll thing. So perhaps the Detour is part of the first stop at the Alaya Adventure Center in Brotas, Brazil. OR we have an episode with only a Roadblock and no Detour. I think we lose one team at the doll show just as we have in the past at the hayfield and the archelogical dig in Eqypt.

One shot that still bothers me is that of MO/JO in different clothes (She is in blue with a blue knit hat, he is in a black and orange windbreaker) first in the van (?) and then running in a parking lot toward somewhere. Could this be from EP4 in Stuttgart????? TPTB have been adding scenes in advance just as they did for the preview of EP2 by adding scenes from EP3 (the teams running through he colonnade and Lake on the zip line) so it may be that this scene is from EP4. Which would mean that the Beach Boys, MO/JO and the Nerds are safe this week.

Anyones guess on the dance troupe & theatre, but the Hotel Rossiya complex next to Red Square, Gostiny Dvor, and steps from the pitstop, would make a logical place to put up the racers for the night.

Russia House takes up most of the block behind the churches on the left down to the embankment along the Moscow River. The front also borders the square before St. Basil's Cathedral which we believe is the location of the matt for ep 3. The dolls could be displayed here and the clue would lead them to St. Basil's; but the dolls could be laid out in one of the exhibition spaces inside The Old Merchant's Chambers. Either location could be reached by travelling along Ulitsa Varvarka. Russia House would also make a good place to put up crews and teams for the night.

Yes, MO/JO are wearing the same clothing in the van and also on the parking lot, but both shots could be from next week's ep in Stutgart. I do not recall any parking lot around the Convent nor inside. And we have a shot of someone with a black backpack inside the convent. And we have shots of I think it is Yolanda walking to the pool and she is also wearing a backpack. The scenes of Mo in Blue are the only ones we have of teams in Russia without backpacks.

So far we seem to have good pix of Lake/Michelle, BJ/Tyler, Beach Boys, Mo/JO and the Nerds in Brazil. BJ/Tyler, Yolanda, Fran and Barry, Beach Boys, Wanda and Desiree, and Double Dees in Russia. And MO/JO in either Russia or Germany. So that leaves almost no edit for David/Lori nor Lake/Michelle in Russia. Is either team on the way to be Philiminated? And if indeed the shot of Blue Mo is in Stutgart, then that means the Nerds are safe as well. That leaves Lake and Michelle unaccounted for.

Oh i felt they were just talking about on the episode [but prolly not] becuase all those teams were pretty fun in the first eppy. If its true that means, DD, RY, DL all dont win, we already know LM dont win[via Portugal comment from Michelle's mom -- this also points to DD not winning] Thats BT, MJ, FB, EJ, WD are left. But there i feel is a pattern in winners and their first leg and its point to BT winning. It startred and is now repeating of 1 - 6 - 2 - 9 - 8 - 4 - 8 - 9 - [should be 2 now right]. It like a parabola with 4 as the bottom.
There myspace though just gives me a vibe they should do pretty good, why make a myspace about "team Pinkies if you get eliminated early [nevermind the next eppy after you made it] but who knows.

First> It has been confirmed that Monica is saying in the van (on the way in from the airport??) "All I know is that the Russian people drink and smoke a whole lot." So they are in Moscow not elsewhere. Then we see Monica and Joseph running through a parking lot that seems to be next to the swimming venue. But first back to the beginning:

1. Teams start off at the Primavera da Serra coffee plantation. It looks like the first three teams: The Hippies, The Beach Boys, and MO/JO have arrived first in mid afternoon so they would be leaving before sunrise which is at 6:23AM and again I would guess that they have at least an hour lead on the fourth place team, The Nerds. We see them later in a VW (and this is a new shot since they are wearing new clothing but the VW has the same silhouette of a Kangeroo on the back window) and the scene from the car shows the sun just about at sunrise. We also know that the Old Folks at Home arrived much later when it was completely dark so that had to be after the sun set at 7:31PM.

2. I suspect that the teams had to proceed to the Alaya Adventure Park where we see them doing the zipline gig. Now this may be one part of a Detour and we have not been shown what it is, and we have not been shown all 9 teams doing the zipline, but at the start we have a nice shot of The Hippies, The Beachboys, and MO/JO all running together across a field without backpacks. So we can guess that the three teams arrived together at the Adventure Park but had to wait until it opened at daybreak - for sake of argument lets say 6:30AM.

3. Completing the task they are told to drive themselves back to the bus station in Brotas and find a bus back to Sao Paulo. Now it may be a regularly scheduled bus or one of two or three chartered buses. And we have our three lead teams waiting around in the sun at the bus station; so they must be waiting for a scheduled or charter bus. If the teams all don't bunch up here, they will at the Sao Paulo airport since it looks like the only really practical flight to Moscow leaves GRU at 3:30PM for Frankfurt then connects for a flight to Moscow (SVO) arriving at 12:00Noon the next day. I hope the teams can sleep on the plane because it is a 15 hour flight crossing seven time zones. Jet Lag here we come.

4. Arriving in Moscow, I think that several teams get into several Airport Vans and proceed to the Novodevichiy Convent. There is a van service at Sheremetevo 2, similar to the Super Shuttle in the US. They seem to use minivans similar to the Chevy Suburban with three rows of seats behind the driver. We see a shot of the Double Dees taken from the driver's side of the car probably in the first row with the Double Dees in the Second Row and maybe the Beach boys behind them. In another similar van (Notice the handle above the door window is the same) with the camera next to Mo as Jo looks out the window with Loir behind them. Once here they must search the grounds to find the next clue box which may be located at the grave site of Peter the Great's half sister, Regent Sophia who was confined and died here. The cemetary also includes graves of many notable Russians including Anton Chekhov, Sergey Prokofiev, Dmitriy Shostakovich, or Nikita Khrushchev. The Double Dees are in one van with someone behind them and they seem to be outside the city since you can see a corregated steel safety rail and trees through the window of the car. And someone is sitting behind them - the Beach boys making time?? Mo and Jo with perhaps David and Lori seem to be in another van.

5. The clue here directs the teams to find a cab (or van) and drive to the Chaika Sports Complex on Turchaninov Pereulok. We see Yolanda (already in her sexy tight purple shorts carrying a towel) and also a back pack running toward the diving area (probably after finding the clue) Also it looks like Mo and Jo are outside the facility running toward an entrance (David and Lori are behind them and later we do see David and Monica on the side of the pool watching someone else dive)

6. It is most likely that this is the dreaded ROADBLOCK since we only see one member of each team doing the dive (BJ routing on Tyler; Desidee routing for her mama) It looks like Wanda is jumping at 14.56 (2:56PM) which seems to ensure that this task comes first after the Convent since there would not be time to go to the convent and then the doll house and then here by 2:56PM. There is a timer on the stands which shows that Wanda is still in the water after 29 minutes (I wonder if there is a time limit and if they do not complete the task in say 30 minutes they have to get out of the pool to warm up??) Anyway, the Hippie half really does it in something like 3 or 4 minutes. So we have Yolanda, Wanda, Tyler, Eric?, Mo, Michelle, David, and perhaps Dani (although we do not see her dive, we have a shot of her outside with what appears like wet hair) diving. No hint of Barry or Fran. ( But they can't be far behind as later we have them together with the Hippies at the Doll House.)

7. Upon completion of the ROADBLOCK teams then must proceed either to the Old Merchants' Chambers (Staryy Gostinvyy Dvor) or to the concert hall annex of Russia House. Neither one is too far away and can be reached by a short cab ride along the Moscow River.It really doesn't matter which since both venues are practically across the street from eachother. Here ALL teams must look through thousands of nesting dolls (Matryoshka Dolls) for the next clue. I believe that this is a task that ALL teams have to do and is not a Detour. We have scenes of the Beach Boys behind Yolanda running through a colonnade which is part of either venue. We also seem to see the Beach Boys and Yolanda looking through the dolls at the same time. In another scene we have the Old Folk at Home and the Hippies (BJ is in the far background wearing the same blue shirt with vellow chevron that he had on at the beginning of the day in Brotas.So we must have had a real bunch up today (probably on the plane to Moscow) because the last place team which was at least three hours behind at the start is now equal with the first place team! Another shot is of Lake and Michelle. No scenes of the Nerds, the Double Dees, Mo/Jo nor Wanda/Desidee at the dolls.

8. The clue here tells them to proceed to the PIT STOP which is located in the Plaza or Square (Ploshchad) in front of St. Basil's Cathedral and Russia House (not the Red Square side of the Cathedral). Most likely it is after 4:30PM (sunset time) when the teams reach the pit stop mat. Someone suggested that the Beach Boys didn't complete the doll task and get to the pit stop until 4:30AM!!! Rather I think they got there around 4:30PM and the teams were given an unannounced 24 hour pit stop because they must be completely exhausted by now.

9. Who comes in first? My money is on Eric and Jeremy. Who comes in last? Sorry to say but I think it may be David and Lori. Alternate choice would be Lake and Michelle who are completely frustrated looking for the doll clue.

If that is David, then he would be doing 2 roadbacks in a row (according to puddins chart). All the other teams appear to be alternating tasks, although it's too early in the race to worry about this. Maybe Lori can't jump.

But my model was wrong. I set it up where they get to take apart the dolls and find what they are looking for by the power of elimination.

But it looks like they may have instructions to reassemble each doll they take apart and put it back. That makes it harder for all the teams to find whatever it is they seek. And longer to do it due to the added work of reassembly.

The padlock roadblock of TAR6 took longer than planned for two teams. We heard on the Fishbowl from Rebecca that producers stepped in and narrowed the search field for her and Hayden so to get them off the mountain by the 7 pm bus. She said they did this twice: "your lock is somewhere between here and here" Each time defining a shorter length of the fence.

Under the conditions she faced I don't think poor Hayden could have opened the one padlock if given only two to try. She broke her key not once but two times.

I bet we see a lot of sticky dolls not opening up and binding themselves shut.

After the pool they have to find a cab and get to the dolly place near Red Square so that doesn't leave much time before it gets dark to finish the task. And traffic in late afternoon in Moscow is more at a stand still than on the move. A nice touch would be for them to take the Underground - famous and fast. But with every sign only written in crylic letters it could be a real task to find the right stop.

Everything is in cyrillic, and unless they're given maps they'd better find a friendly local.

So unless TPTB have introduced something new (which they very well may have) the only place that I can see where a DETOUR would fit would be while the teams are still in Brotas Brazil and possibly at the Alaya Adventure Center which features a variety of adventure tasks such as ziplines, etc. Just doesn't seem to be any where else.

And we have at least three bunching points: (1) at the Alaya Adventure Center, (2)The bus station back to Sao Paulo, (3) Sao Paulo Airport and flight to Moscow. And as we have seen during the day, the last place team has caught up with the first place team: both Bj/Tyler and the Old Folk at Home are together at the doll house (or vice versa).

Some notes on the fact there is a van service at Sheremetevo 2 airport with vans with three rows of seats behind the driver. TPTB probably have 3 or 4 of these vans marked for the teams to use upon arrival. Smart idea since in Moscow unlike most other western European cities, taxi drivers and very few others speak or read any English and direction signs and street signs are only written in crylillic letters.

We have now spotted all teams at the swimming venue except Our Old Folk at Home. It looks like BJ, Eric, Michelle, Wanda, Yolanda, Dani, Monica and David do the dive. Monica and David are not first as we see them watching someone dive and the walkway is wet with water (from previous dives) where they are standing.

Puddin, anything new on TES this morning? My recorder failed to record.

I'll be running around the world like a crazy person again tonight at 10/9 central on CBS. It should be a good episode. For those of you that aren't going to be able to watch, here's what happens tonight:
We begin tonight's leg at Primavera da Serra. Teams arrived here for a mandatory rest period that allowed us to eat, sleep, and mingle with the other teams. After leaving the pit stop, we must drive our VW bugs from Brotas to Varginha, Brazil, where each team must use a Kodak Easyshare Digital Camera to take a picture of the elusive Chupacabra.
After the legendary goat-sucker has been photographed, the teams have to swim to Cabo da Roca, the Westernmost point of continental Europe, and select one of three hot-air balloon rides to the North Pole. Two teams die on the cross-Atlantic swim, and another three perish in the Arctic Circle. Which of the remaining four teams will make it to the Pit Stop in Santa's Workshop first? Tune in tonight to find out.

Sad to say it but I think it'll be Wanda and Desiree tonight. Like whar someone else said, they were edited as a bad team last week and you can tell that the editors are trying to set up their elimination. They must know that they'll be a very popular team so maybe that's why they showed them struggling in the previews, so it really doesn't come as a shock to many people.

Seems too early for a NEL (don't think it has ever been earlier than about the fifth show) Somewhere it was mentioned that there would be a YIELD on every leg, but we have not seen one yet or even had it mentioned. And if there are only two Fast Forwards again, I don't expect to see one until later.

The shot of Dani seems to show her with wet hair; could this be leaving the diving location?

didnt for the first episode this season wait until after the show to say if someone was on the early show or not??

Not like it matters but Eric and Jeremy, and BJ and Tyler logged onto myspace tonight so they prolly didnt make the trip to NY. I was going to say the same for Desiree and the Danni's and then i realized they live in NY lol

In previous TBC's (TAR6 - Leg 6; TAR7 - Leg 8; TAR8 - Leg 10) teams continued on in the same country (or state) and did not continue on to a new country. But all previews are of teams in Germany; so they must continue and the Leg 3 will be Brazil to Russia to Germany which would be a first.

If the teams are told they can now fly to Stuttgart, if Eric and Jeremy are on the ball they can get to the airport and catch the 19.05 Lufhansa flight no. 3187 which would get them to Stuttgart (via Frankfurt) at 22.50. But if TPTB let them do this they could end up a full day ahead of the other teams. The next connecting flight to Stuttgart leaves at 07.00 and gets to Stuttgart at 13.45.

I wonder if the teams have to go somewhere in Moscow first. And what about sleep? It has been more than 24 hours since they last laid their pretty lil heads down on a soft pillow!! Hotel National has been given credit so maybe the teams are allowed to sleep over before heading off to Stuttgart in the morning.

One note, if the teams had told the taxi drivers to go to St. Basil's Cathedrdal they would have been taken directly to the plaza where Phil was waiting for them. But by going to Red Square they entered through the Resurrection Gate and had to run all the way across the square to reach St. Basil's cathedral. Matter of fact they have a shot of cars driving along the Moscow River embankment and at the end of the brick wall marking the boundry of the Kremlin if they had looked to their left they would have seen the Cathedral.

Hate TBC now do we call the trip to Stuttgart Leg 4 or Leg 3 Part II?

WHat I really like about this TBC, is that TPTB are doing some things different form other seasons, and it is getting more and more interesting.

Good episode all along. Moved pretty past.

As I was watching last night, I commented to my partner that the producers must definitely have taken seriously the suggestions we fans have made about how the legs are constructed, as the bunching (so far) has been early in legs, so as not to negate all the hard work by teams to get in front by the end of each leg. I think having a TBC early in the Race will also be good, so we won't have 3-4 weeks in a row without eliminations.

Another thing about last night, we were trying to figure out what would be the best air route to Moscow from Sao Paolo, and although we figured that there would probably be flights from there to NY or London or Rome to connect to Moscow, we guessed that Frankfurt would probably be the best one. So when it turned out that way, we were torn between feeling proud of ourselves or embarrassed that we had watched the show so often that we knew that!

Long flight ahead as we travel to Russia. About 11 hours to Frankfurt and then a tight connection to Moscow. We were last in Russia in season 5 when we went to St. Petersburg. Who will ever forget the caviar? You couldn’t find a cracker big enough for that serving. The teams are in for a treat in Moscow; we have some excellent challenges waiting for them.

What’s always interesting about coming back to Russia is seeing the increasing Western influence. Franchises such as McDonald’s have been around for awhile, but there are more and more new companies and brands making their way into the country. However, despite all the commercialism, there is a certain look that will never disappear. The distinctive architecture…hopefully, that will be around forever.

The hotel we’re staying at has this incredible view of the restaurant. Wish I could see it from my room, too…instead I can see and hear a dozen Russian made air condition units…looks like my airplane earplugs will be coming in handy tonight. Right next to the hotel is an Olympic clothing store, some excellent stuff, but crazy prices…$300 for a sweatshirt. Food on the other hand is very cheap…and good. Found a very tasty beef stroganoff with rice for about $3.

The teams are really going to notice the temperature difference after Brazil. Teams should be arriving in about 10 minutes. We managed to get ahead of them on this leg and have the Detour shot. We are at the bus station where they have a choice to scrub the buses. The other choice is the Russian dolls. . Everybody is ready for the teams. There are so many people involved in making things happen. When the teams come through everything just has to work--period. In any given season there are upwards of 2,000 people involved in making a show work. Producers, researchers, transcribers, translators, drivers, PAs, security people, etc.

Off to the Roadblock. Right on schedule to stay ahead of the teams before getting to the Pit Stop. The pool is awesome. An outdoor facility in the dead of winter. Steam everywhere. We had some extra time to shoot the stand-up today. The swimwear sure is different here. Speedos, or whatever the local brand is here, seem to be compulsory for the men. It’s just not a good look on everyone. There are some incredible physiques here, but there are some who have been eating up to prepare for the long winter. From a distance, with all the folds, it’s hard to tell if anything is being worn at all. The only real give away is that it breaks up the pattern of hair. Still I think board shorts would look a bit out of place here.

The women are displaying a plethora of designs covering ever major influence from the past 100 years. One pieces, two pieces, the ones that barely join up and designs that only make it into the sale bin…i.e. the suits no one wanted to buy.

I’m in a small tent right now, just over 30 degrees in the tent, set up to keep us warm while we wait for the teams to arrive. The local producers have a heater going for us. There is also some soup available, as well as a local dish of mashed potatoes with a serving of meat on top. We are right next to St. Basil Cathedral, a 16th century building with the famous spirals and stunning colors. Next to that is the Kremlin, which was set up to house the Russian government.

Just got word we have teams coming to us so I got as much food in before heading out to the mat. Today is Saturday, and there are dozens of wedding parties out having their photos taken. They all look so young. Clearly the drinks have been flowing…actually, they still are. One group has a bottle of wine out and is pouring glasses for everyone. I can’t get over how undressed the locals look. There’s a guy close by wearing a long sleeve cotton shirt with a reasonably thin sports coat and that’s it. The rest of us are wearing pretty much every article of winter clothing we own.

It’s just magic to watch the light change during the afternoon and into the night. In the end the teams ended up coming in very close together. Love that. Being a virtual Pit Stop, I had fun with some of the teams today. Lake & Michelle were extremely excited to hear that they were in second place and then shocked to find out they had to keep going. Fran & Barry have moved up in the order, Dave & Lori have moved to the back of the pack and were extremely relieved to hear they are still in it. Some really emotional arrivals today. They give so much to each leg that the idea of having to maintain the Race mode is really tough for some teams.

I think MOJO will finish the detour before the nerds and take a cab for themselves. It's not really a big deal, they can't wait forever for them.

I think MOJO will finish the detour before the nerds and take a cab for themselves. It's not really a big deal, they can't wait forever for them.

If they take a new cab, NO. but if they take the cab they shared the whole leg[and leave the Nerds with not cab] it kind of is.

If they take the same cab from last leg it would definetly put the nerds in a disvantage. But you know what? They don't know it's a TBC leg and I'm pretty sure MOJO and the nerds will be the last team leaving, so they'll think the elimination will be between them. Every man for themselves at that time.

I cross checked the location with Google Earth and it's a little off. It probably sites HQ offices. From GE, nearby, you see the large parking lot for trolleys. From the show I matched the two smokestacks and the residential high rises that show up in the background.

A dissenting opinion by Jaunted (http://www.jaunted.com/maps/Amazing-Race) points to a different location that does not checkout. It appears to be a railcar handling facility.
