Title: Who will go 'down' first?
Post by: Jeffrey Scott on February 15, 2006, 01:46:11 PM
Have you noticed that in just about every season of Amazing Race, at least one person ends up falling during the initial stampete? I can't wait to see who it will be this year.

I think just once, I'd like to see someone start off the race by calmly walking to their bags, laughing at all those that do fall. I mean, the chances of getting Philiminated because you take 20 seconds extra getting to your automobile are very slim (if any).

I think John & Scott are the first to be eliminate in TAR9.

I seem to recall that Kevin & Drew set a slower pace at the start of TAR1.  Too bad we didn't see that again in later seasons.  They had class.

I finally got around to watching the file that puddin posted above. Phil seemed to say the same thing as me. He can't believe how these people knock themselves out like the race would be over for them if they don't get to their bags first.  :ride: :ele: :swing: :nitenite: :horsey:

Not as long as me. I tried downloading off the link, and all I got was a WalMart ad. (when I clicked on the link directly, WMP gave me an error message)

During the Family edition didn't three people go down during the initial stampede?

I dont remember the details off hand Jeff but Mom Rodgers said she fell so hard that she was hurling ,and was dizzy maybe a slght concusion ?  She says it was the reason they didnt do well  with the task @ the battlefield because her illness was slowing her family down , and I beleive she was taken right to the hospital after they were eliminated ....... how sad  :-\ .
I'll see if I could find their interview .

TVGuide.com: Where did you guys go after you were eliminated?
All: The hospital.
Denny: Renee fell at the starting line. She had grass on her shirt and pants and she skinned her knee, and when we got to the car she said her ear was ringing and she thought maybe she'd burst an eardrum. So we dusted her off and took off. That night she became nauseous; the next morning, she couldn't eat. As we progressed to Washington, she was starting to not finish her sentences and she couldn't remember what she was fixin' to speak about. She lagged behind at the Reflecting Pool and when I looked in her eyes, I knew we didn't have the same competitor we started with. Once we were eliminated, of course we reserved the right to seek medical attention on her behalf and [doctors] determined that she had a concussion.

TVGuide.com: So, Renee, you went three days with a concussion.
All: Four days.

TVGuide.com: That's dangerous. You can lapse into a coma like that.
Renee: If we hadn't been eliminated then, we would have been eliminated next. That was grounds for elimination.

I'm not sure about that. Teams that leave the start line first get to the airport first as well, and can be in the first flight out. Usually, the teams that leave the start line last end up in the last flight out of US, since the sits in the planes are limited. That depends, though, if the  teams ahead get lost searching for the aiport.

Speaking for myself, the moment that Phil says GO, I'd run like if I was being chased by the devil.

I would want to get to the airport first, to have a chance to see what's the better flight.

I'm not talking about stopping to pick the roses and all that. But just not running. Sure you can hurry, but I'd let everyone else knock themselves out.

yes you are right jeffreysg.  Someone always falls in the beginning and I think that has come back to haunt them too as it slows them down during the game.  I guess we will find out in about 9 days if someone takes a spill.  I can hardly wait.  Except for the Olympics--my tv viewing has really been slim because Thursday nights seem to be my only tv night with survivor and csi.

Oddly enough, I must be one of the last few people stilling watching ER. I can't imagine that show being on any longer than a few seasons more.
