It took alot of rewinding to catch the signage when Tyler is jumping through the air but it says www.aeromot.com. Looks like a hanger in Brazil.

So far Scott's pants (and shoes/hair) match the jumper in Corinth.

Although based in Porto Alegre, Aeromot does have a branch office at Marte airport in Sao Paulo (see the address here (http://www.aeromot.com.br/english/index.php?sessao=enderecos#sp), along with the photo with the website and logo).

Thanks for the link. There's some different stuff in the web promo: a different heliport (given enough time, it might be identified), a team skiing, and an icelandair jet (recycled no doubt).

Looks  like we :jumpy: have some meat to chew on at last!

We have shots of BJ and Tyler first on a roof top (helioport?) with chopper coming toward them. BJ is holding what looks like yellow clue envelope.  Later we have shots of Tyler jumping with joy with a cameraman behind him filming BJ further away.  This looks like it could be in front of the AEROMOT hanger at the Campo de Marte airport in Sao Paulo which is used for busniess and other small planes.  Did they arrive and complete task and receive good news? Do not believe this could be the major international airport, Guarulhos International Airport, since I doubt in this day and age civilians without proper ID would be allowed on the tarmac there.

Does anyone recognize the young man doing the loop de loop on the surfboard or what ever you call one that is towed.  Looks like perhaps a location in Australia.  If we can pin down who it is we then will know at least one team that makes it that far. Or perhaps it is just a standin demoing what task has to be done.

The color in that last picture (gold) makes it look like a shot from the road beneath the Viaduto Santa Ifigena. There's a skyscraper next to it (Mirante do Vale (http://www.emporis.com/en/il/im/?id=328002)) with a heliport and a similar shape, but the markings are different than the one in the cap. Still looking...

It took alot of rewinding to catch the signage when Tyler is jumping through the air but it says www.aeromot.com. Looks like a hanger in Brazil.

AEROMOT INDUSTRIES, Porto Alegre, RS, Brazil, Avenida Das Industrias 1210, Porto Alegre, 90200-290

add .br to the internet address since it's in Brazil. So it's Grupo Aeromot http://www.aeromot.com.br/

Something to ponder:  do the teams just take a helicopter ride from some building downtown Sao Paulo around town and land at the Campo de Marte airport?  This does not make much sense unless at the Campo de Marte Airport they catch another plane which will take them somewhere else in Brazil.  Are BJ and Tyler jumping with joy because they made it in time for the first charter flight out of CdM?  OR, do they take a chopper all the way to Puerto Alegre, Brazil (about 530 miles) and we see them now in front of the Aeromot hanger in Puerto Alegre?  OR, arriving at CdM they then get charter to Iguanna Falls (one of the remarkable features of Brazil)?  Lots of possibilities.  But I am pretty sure the teams are not just taking the chopper on a joy ride around town.

I think you're right, gman. There're 2 heliports: a square one and a rectangle one. So Campo de Marte airport is something else.

far fetched idea :knock: maybe the teams are given a picture of a certain rooftop/helipad and the teams have to direct the pilot , when they find the right one they land , get the clue , return to the original start spot and then are rewarded with their next clue or whatever  :spy: ?

Hi y'all.  Long time lurker, first of many postings, hopefully.  :waves:

I agree with puddin's theory about the helicopter rides being the task.  My spin on this would be that the racers are required to use the helicopters in lieu of taxicabs to complete their tasks, as I haven't seen any cabs during the previews.

Hope to add my 2 cents to the spoiling this season.

Not at all. Didn't Richard Branson do an airborne scavenger hunt during his show? We know that a couple of teams have arrived at Marte with yellow (presumably Detour) cards and without luggage. I can't find any shots of the same team on both the Viaduto and the choppers, so maybe it's a "ride or fly" detour.

Oh ride or fly , good idea Slowhatch ..Lisa / Joni and Yolanda /Ray  running on the bridge maybe even John & Scott from the TV guide picture? hard to say ..
Flying Wanda/Desiree ,Bj & Tyler , assume David & Lori per preview shots , Eric & Jeremy ( thanks to banzai ) ,Joesph & Monica  and another team in white shirts  ( not sure who it is see fuzzy pic below) ..
thats all I could think of without looking .

From TAR5 on, teams have to sleep in a park in the first leg. If you see any park in Sao Paulo (Brazil), then it must be it. First leg should be a 3-day race too. Let's check out their clothes. Hope TPTB releases the vhs screener.

I may have identified the building, using puddins latest (higher resolution) vidcaps.  One of the helipad pix shows an antenna, not previously seen in lower res. photos.  Did some checking, and the only building I found with a helipad and antenna is São Luís Gonzaga building, Av. Paulista, Sao Paulo.

http://www.emporis.com/en/wm/bu/?id=119720

http://www.saoluisgonzaga.com.br/english/building/index.htm

The building web site shows pctures of the helipad that appear to match the vidcap (note number "5" on the helipad).

Edited to add: found building on Google Earth (see below).

We kinda dismissed the Icelandair jet as recycled since they were just there in TAR6, but I'm having second thoughts. Watch the preview video. It's included in a series of clips that are all this season -- the red plane in Alaska, then bungee jumping in Corinth, then the dramatic black slide with the announcer saying "this race will take you places you've never been" and the shot of the Icelandair jet followed by a ton of clips we know are from this season. If they wanted a shot of a plane, there would be plenty from this year -- why rehash old clips there?

Thanks y'all.  I'm quite sure the long rectangular building with the helipad (and antenna) is the São Luís Gonzaga building, and that matches at least one of the vidcaps.  Not sure where the term "Emporis Building" came from.

The second helipad vidcap is a little tougher to find.  Appears to be a lot closer to the ground. I'm working on a possible candidate, but it's a long shot.  Also, don't forget, the Google Earth database of pictures is at least 3 years old, so matching exactly won't be easy.  Glad I could help.

Yeah, maybe you're right Puddin. I wonder why they didn't just use the Varig plane here or another shot from this season. They definitely use stock plane footage every season - I wonder if there's a reason they would use stock Icelandair footage for this season.

It looks like we now have identified at least six teams who have been seen waiting for, or in, or leaving helicopters on two different roof tops and at what probably is the Campo de Marte airfield in Sao Paulo (or as a very long shot - well a 500 mile long shot - at the airport in Puerto Alegre).

So what does it mean?

Just going from one place to another? If so then why two different takeoff spots?

So could it be a task (detour perhaps) of locating specific places, things or TAR banners and then delivering that information to the operations chief at the Campo de Marte site to receive the next clue.  We see at least two teams with both yellow envelopes and sheets of paper in their hands during this exercise.

Any ideas of what it all means?
Title: Re: NEW TAR commercial
Post by: Boingo on February 10, 2006, 03:25:10 PM
I was just thinking the same thing, Gingerman28.  It may be true that the buildings/helipads are merely the transit points between tasks.  So that's why I started concentrating on what attarctions Sao Paulo has to offer (other than the Samba).

Here's what I gleened from the vidcap locations:

Sao Paulo is also known for it's "shopping".  Sao Paulo’s "Daslu" is Latin America’s most glamorous and exclusive shopping experience. The new store has a helicopter pad so according to the store’s managing Director their customers “don’t even have to look at anyone on the street”.

So, it's possibly dancing, shopping, and museums.  Where have we seen these tasks before?  I wonder.......

Nice Chateau !
an article on Franknberr~y

Ski bums. That's partly because Silverthorne offers soon-to-be retirees an active lifestyle filled with skiing in the winters and hiking and biking in the summers plus a vibrant social circle. The lifestyle is attractive to younger retirees, like Fran Lazarus and her husband, Barry, who retired eight years ago in their early 50s. The two discovered Silverthorne on a ski trip shortly after they stopped working and fell in love with all the area had to offer. Now living full time in Summit County, just outside town, the Lazaruses are involved with the Over the Hill Gang International, a ski group for older adults. They also host potlucks and go hiking with other retirees. "We feel like it's a new passage, a new rite of life," says Fran.

Could the Continental Square Faria Lima Office be the building behind Lisa and Joni in the helicopter scene?

Some things I found similar are the black windows (jutting out) framed by a white block, the triangular annex (on the left in the cap, on the right in the photo) and the teeny circular helipad on top. Also, the building next to/behind the Office is brown with a white section inserted into its side, matching the Caesar Business Hotel. In the vidcap, there's a building between the two big ones in the foreground, and it's the same one in the second photo.

Found Continental Square and Caesar Business Hotel on Google Earth (phew!) but here's multiple choice time! The problem I'm facing now is the orientation. The helipad and tower directions don't match; it seems like CBS has reversed the video? There are no helipads south of (D).

We still have to find this one of Eric & Jeremy (my guess).

I don't think it is a rectangular pad after all.  It looks that way due to the low angle of view.

Things to look for on the Eric/Jeremy pad, the square helipad is raised, and over a circular building top! Should make life easier for those hitting Emporis.

I'm thinking the Joseph/Monica helipad would be more to the west on Google Earth. One has to see in between the hotel and Continental Square. The one directly across the road perhaps?

Woohoo! Found Jeremy and Eric's helipad! (Not 100% sure though, it might be too tall.) It's the Blue Tree Towers in Faria Lima. Those crazy Brazillians, they painted the blue helipad yellow! (Or blue from yellow, who knows?)

http://www.emporis.com/en/wm/bu/?id=119840 (http://www.emporis.com/en/wm/bu/?id=119840)

OK my bad, it isn't circular, it's OVAL. :groan: The helipad is #29 in Puddin's map, about two blocks away from Joseph and Monica's helipad.

Three down, one to go, I guess? We still have BJ and Tyler's helipad. Note that there's a yellowish block behind, on the right. Not sure if it's the whole building or just the roof.

Well I'll be damned, the picture is a mirror image.  After inverting the vidcap and lightening up the picture, the writing on the t-shirt says "Mo Jo". (Monica & Joseph?)

Edited to add: After clicking on the enlarged photo of the Blue Towers Faria Lima Building @ http://www.emporis.com/en/wm/bu/?id=119840 I have some doubts.  Do you think the helipad details match?.
Title: Re: NEW TAR commercial
Post by: gingerman28 on February 12, 2006, 10:20:17 AM
Have you noticed that at the very end of that scene with the inverted MO JO as they run toward the camera to the far right of the screen is another person running and carrying something. Another racer? A cameraman? Or somewone else?  Strange as it looks like each team is going in a seperate chopper.

We have six teams now and perhaps a seventh going toward, in and away from the choppers on several different helipads and at the Campo de Marte airfield.

So what does it all mean?  Are they doing some kind of task (several teams are carrying vellow envelopes and pieces of white paper)?  or are they just going from one place to another for some strange reason? And note that none of the teams have backpacks.

It won't do us much good to identify the various helipad locations unless we can come up with some idea of what it all means.

One idea: an aireal scavenger hunt to locate the sites of various TAR banners.
Title: Re: NEW TAR commercial
Post by: Neobie on February 12, 2006, 10:39:01 AM
So for a quick summary,

Lori/David, Eric/Jeremy and BJ/Tyler at Marte, BJ/Tyler waiting on top of unknown helipad, white-shirted pair running on top of the Blue Tree Towers, Monica and Joey running on the helipad across the road from Caesar's, and Wanda/Desiree inside a helicopter. The white-shirted pair (one wearing jeans, the other black pants) are at Marte with Eric/Jeremy and BJ/Tyler. Unless the racers changed clothes inside the helicopter, it's none of the abovementioned racers, nor Ray/Jolanda or Lisa/Joni, seen on the Viaduto. We can also rule out John/Scott from the TV Guide photo, so that leaves Lake/Michelle, the Danielles, and Fran/Barry.

If teams don't have backpacks (not even on the helicopter, judging from the Wanda/Desiree clip), it means that they will have to return to Marte after the task. But having each team go to a different helipad will be kinda unfair, judging from the spread of the locations over São Paulo. Is this a Venetian Mask, Buenos Aires Tango task, where they are given a photo of the helipad which they are to find? (One problem with this is we may have teams landing in weird places they're not authorised to.)

Strangely enough, we spoiler people are doing the exact same thing. ???

I don't know. The white-shirt helipad (I agree it's jeremy/eric) looks lower to the ground, and next to a park or alameda. The canister guy might be a safety person or a clue holder.
As for the luggage, the back seat of the R44 looks cramped; has there been any instance in past races of a team doing a task and having production shuttle their luggage to the finish point?
Like GMan said, the task is a bit puzzling. Playing spot-the-flag from a helicopter would be almost impossible because of the size of the city and the different heights of the buildings.

Anybody having any luck with the motobike clip? There's a business down the street named Tiger with some kind of tuk-tuk (or dilapidated truck) parked in front. A yellow pages search for Sao Paulo turned up 14 hits for "tiger" and no matches; they probably don't even list small businesses. It would be nice to read some other signs but the cameraman adjusts the focus as the bike moves, making it hard.

I looked too Slowhatch and only came up with real Tigers , well you know what I mean

Getting Around

Sao Paulo is big—we mean really big. Spanning over 3,000 square miles, the city stretches all the way to the horizon in just about every direction.
With that size comes sizeable traffic. The city’s roadways are packed during rush hours that last more than just an hour or two.

Plan your travel after 10am to minimize your time in traffic. Our touring started every day after 10 a.m. and we were able to avoid the worst of the rush.

Don’t even think about renting a car. Whether this is purely a romantic trip or you're squeezing in some romance on a business trip, you'll find that the city's traffic is too difficult for newcomers to navigate. Ask your hotel to recommend a transport company.

Consider the metro as well. The city has a modern, underground subway linking some (but not yet all) areas.

The Viaduto is a pedestrian-only bridge, so I think maybe the car is helping production with security; judging by the sisters bridge cap, a clue box (for those who walk the detour) is somewhere on the bridge.

I think the footage came from TAR6 Iceland, where teams were driven on charter vans up the Vatnajokull Glacier. Everything from the first half of the video seems to be recycled.

Hmm, I agree that the Blue Trees Tower looks too tall (the trees are too big). Now I'm lost. Any building that looks almost exactly like that, but on a shorter scale?

Back to the drawing board! I mean, well, Emporis.

.... Any building that looks almost exactly like that, but on a shorter scale?

I was thinking that Edifício Dacon was a possible candidate, but it's too tall and the helipad design is wrong.
http://www.emporis.com/en/il/im/?id=373982

Anyone notice the writing on left side of the helipad.  Something starting with "A..." or ending with "...V".  Might be part of the name of the building.

Update: Just found this possible location.  What struck me was not necessarily the building (which is round) but the red tiled buildings directly across from it.  Could this view match the view in the vidcap below?

<< A man with 2 red canisters? something ?

Most likely a safety crew with fire extinguishers; a requirement almost everywhere planes/helicopters take off and land.

Could it be that after completing the helicopter task the teams end up at Campo de Marte airfield and sign up for charter flight the next morning to who knows where?  Marte services business type planes and charters.  Tyler's reaction also most seems to reflect his finishing something and is happy about the result = first flight out?

Since the teams went to Iguaccu Falls in TAR2, perhaps they are going to Puerto Alegre or some other city in the south of Brazil.

The motorcycle scene just screams South-East Asia to me. Just a gut feeling.

Using the link Boingo posted, the second helipad seems to be called Atrium V. I can't find it on Emporis though, so there's no photographic evidence to back it up. Google Earth and the information on the site differ by roughly 3 seconds of latitude or longtitude, so I'm not 100% on this.

There's an address for Atrium V here (http://www.vclocator.com/Venture-Capital/03645/Netjuice.html), but I don't understand the wording: it could be  on Ramos street or Olimpia street.

Roughly translated:  Ed. = Edificio = Building
                            Rua = Street
                            Andar = Floor
Vila Olimpia = Name of a district in Sao Paulo

so the address is:

                            Atrium V Building
                            2nd Floor
                            195 Federico Ramos Street

Aha! Thanks Neobie, I finally located those red tiled roofs in the vidcap with the two guys in white shirts on the helipad.  The vidcap view is from the Atrium V building, looking east.  Note the windsock, the curved decoration on the building below the helipad.  That confirms it.  :cocky:

You're right, Neobie, we still haven't identified the building with the green roof that Monica & Joseph are seen on in the vidcap.  The Atrium V building is behind it to the left (with the red roof, probably still being constructed).   ???

Where could that Rita bus be? Sounds Spanish/Portuguese/Italian - those would be the places to start, I think. Maybe a bus connecting teams from Sao Paulo to another Brazil location? Teams have changed clothes since the opening Denver clips, so maybe this happens after an overnight in Sao Paulo? "You girls are naughty" sounds like something you'd say at the beginning of the race to me, not a revelation you'd reach halfway through the race in Italy.

The helicopter is landing in the roof of the São Luís Gonzaga building.  Given the similar weather (clouds), it's safe to say that BJ & Tyler are on the same roof.

Maybe it ties in with the "rita" sign Puddin was looking for (the TV Guide photo). Also, we can now clearly see the clue box on the Viaduto.

I've having some trouble with this promo that I didn't have on the previous files. The url is basically the same:

Also, here's a link to a Brazilian site in Portuguese that mentions "Bus Rita," which I'm pretty sure is what it says on the bus in the new caps.

That vidcap doesn't look like a recycle to me, but I'm just guessing. Looks "reefy" -- like the waters around Australia.

Speaking of recycles, just a hunch that teams catch a connecting flight on Icelandair to Stockholm, Sweden. I think that's why that recycled clip came in the "new" section of the last promo.

I thought we took care of the MoJo heliopad.  See my post February 11, 2006, 09:29:18 PM.

As noted above, the Atrium V is the red topped building in the GE picture.  It is shorter than the one drawn here with an arrow.  The view to the distinctive buildings (Caesar's Hotel) across the street does not have any other buildings in the way so the Atrium V is not MoJo's heliopad.

Wait, I just checked that great shot that Neobie posted and Atrium V is not shorter.   :groan: Time to get out my protractor.

MoJo pic below, someone with GE working (not me where I am right now) can look for the indicated building in the way far background.
Title: Re: NEW TAR commercial
Post by: Boingo on February 17, 2006, 06:12:50 PM
After a closer look, I think the "green" helipad building is a Red Herring.  Given that the Atrium V building is taller, M&J may actually be on Atrium V.  Do you think the area circled below could be part of the "green" helipad on the lower building?  If so, then we don't need to identify it.   ???

First for a 'duh' moment. We've got Athens locked in. Here's the Parthenon!

Points of comparison are the huge gap in the middle of the right side, eight columns on the front and the chip patterns on the roof.

In all previous eight seasons of TAR, the first episode has included a mid-episode charter system. Will the Rita bus fit the bill?

Things I see recycled are the train approaching Stockholm, Sweden (Page 2 #1-3); Repulse Bay, Hong Kong (Page 4 #19); the Hong Kong skyline (Page 6 #7); Vatnajokull Glacier, Iceland (Page 6 #8), the Sahara; Tunisia (Page 6 #9); Highway 1, Iceland (Page 6 #11) and the Shanghai skyline (Page 6 #14).

Things I'm not sure of about recycling is Huashan, Xian, China (Page 1 #2) and the fortress in Corsica, France (Page 6 #6).

Page 1 #4 doesn't look like Sultan from Brisbane to me (Kodak Easyshare Camera anyone?). The snout seems too long. I agree that this should be Crocodylus Park in Darwin.

This stadium belongs to Sao Paulo county, was established in 1940 and after several remodelations, today's capacity is over 50,000 attendances.

let me stick this here while waiting for banzais download ~
By Bus -- There are four bus terminals (rodoviaria). Which one you use depends upon your destination. All are connected to the metrô system. Barra Funda, near the Barra Funda metrô (tel. 011/3235-0322), serves buses to the interior of São Paulo, northern Paraná, and Mato Grosso. Bresser, next to the Bresser metrô stop (tel. 011/6692-5191), provides buses to Minas Gerais. Jabaquara, next to the Jabaquara metrô (tel. 011/5581-0856), provides transportation to Santos and the south coast. Rodoviaria Tietê (tel. 011/3235-0322 for buses to Rio, and 011/3235-0322 for connections to Paraguay, Uruguay, and Argentina) is by far the largest and most important bus station, located on the Tietê metrô stop. Buses depart from here to Rio, and most major Brazilian cities, as well as international destinations.

The sisters go the ground route as well. I can't see them assembling a motorcycle, but who knows. I'll make a guess and say that the cluebox on the Viaduto comes after Tiger moto, not before; and the cluebox for the fliers is at Marte.

The picture of the beachfront is recycled from Repulse Bay, Hong Kong, TAR2.

If any of the racers find their helipad using the photos quicker than the three weeks that we took, using Google Earth AND Emporis, does that make us total losers at spoiling?

The San Francisco trams?

BJ and Tyler's biography doesn't say where they're from, but I'll guess that's pre-race footage from their 'home-town'.

Found the 'bend-in-the-road-next-to-water-body' in the Put On Some Pants preview. It's I-70, on the way to the airport from Red Rocks Amphitheatre.

There's a Santa Rita (http://www.world66.com/southamerica/brazil/santa_rita) a few hours away from S.P. Maybe that's where people are driving towards.
But...would they put the destination on the side of the bus? Maybe not. It could be just a company name.
Ha! GMTA. Puddin beat me to it.

Thats why I didnt mention it

let me stick this here while waiting for banzais download ~
Buses depart from here to Rio, and most major Brazilian cities, as well as international destinations.

...pathetic, ain't it.  And imagine what we can do with only one week of spoiling on the next leg.  LOL If it wasn't for the few seconds of fame, I wouldn't be doing this.....OK, maybe I would, but I wouldn't enjoy it.....OK, I would.... ;)

Thanks, Banzai. It's too bad we can't do our own wiki and make a collaborative map out of our spoiling, adding new sites as they're discovered. For example, using this
tourist map (http://www.geocities.com/RainForest/7153/ayutmap.htm) and GE I think I've been able to pinpoint the kraal. Note the field with four spots--probably the four statues--and the "courtyard" with the temple thingy in the middle. But I'd like to be able to share the location as well (posting the lat/long is a little clumsy).

Wait. If they're taking a BUS away from São Paulo (most likely on the first leg), doesn't that mean that Pacaembu Stadium is not the first Pit Stop, but the overnight place in the middle fo the first leg? This is akin to the Johannesburg Airport Hotel, Ilna Tours, Hotel Cortes, Galleria Vittorio Emmanuel II, Isla Gorriti, Vatnajokull Glacier, Playa Hermosa and Belmont Plateau in previous seasons.

I don't know if anyone has found this.

Regarding the Rita buses.  There is a Bus Charter service in Sao Paulo called "Empresa Turismo Santa Rita Ltda." .  This may be the buses we see, and don't necessarily mean they are going to Santa Rita, Brasil. They may be going anywhere in Brasil, by Bus.

This is all their info:
Empresa Turismo Santa Rita ltda.
Senador Elói de Souza 50 - Sao Paulo Brazil
 Tel        :(55-11) 2064333
Internet Call  (price x minute US$0.14)
               (55-11) 69432919
               (55-11) 69438000
 Fax          (55-11) 2066601

Hope this helps.

I cant wait these next 10 days, until Feb. 28. :jumpy:

Glad I could be of help.  :bliss:

Now to see where they went in those buses.

I dont think they went to another country. The closest border would be Argentina (been there) or Paraguay but they are really far away more than 1000 km.

So the logical step is to go to another city in Brasil.  There is a Volkwagen plant near Sao Paulo, could be there where we see then driving the  VW cars.  The plant is located in Anchieta, Brasil, and if I am not mistaken it is a beach.

There are a lot of beaches nearby that could  be the tasks we see on the sea.

I was thinking it was the same shop that we see Michelle & Lake @ along with the Tiger Motorcyle shot and somehow there all tied into a detour .

The sisters go the ground route as well. I can't see them assembling a motorcycle, but who knows. I'll make a guess and say that the cluebox on the Viaduto comes after Tiger moto, not before; and the cluebox for the fliers is at Marte.

I focused on Greece because of the blue.  They like to put blue on their boats.  I gave up because I need to have a better image to get the missing letters.

Below is a Google Earth shot of the Tiger shop location.  The yellow arrow is the camera angle that they used to get the shots of the motorcycles doing the front-wheel and back-wheel wheelies.

From Boingo's link, note the address of this place:

Caverna Moto Peças- Rua Guaianazes, 340 – (11) 221.8270

The first image below is their sign.  The second image is the shop with the fancy sidewalk in front.  The next image is a mapping of the shop's address.  See that it is just down the street from Tiger Moto.

The last image is from the promo and we see the tiled sidewalk!

Is the waterfall also recycle or is it a new destination?

And the van, is is going in a a desert or is it snow?  Also recycle or new?

These have been bugging me for the past few days.  The waterfalls I think may be the Iguazu Falls on the Paraguay, Brazil, ARgentina border, but they are very far away from Sao Paulo, like 1110 KM.  And from the pictures I have seen from these falls they are way bigger and more masive than the picture we see on the preview.  What do you guys think?

I have the waterfalls TAR6 , and for sure the Van is recycled I just dont remember which season ( I dont get GSN  :-\ ) ?
and what Neobie wrote ,I was looking at Mt Hua too but no luck getting a match .
And ApprenticeFan is right the Volkswagon Beetle was phased out circa late 1990's with the factories being in Mexico, thats why I think its a junker ...I could see all the teams having to drive these to wherever ..maybe TPTB got them from Rent a Wreck  ? Just searching Brazil and you can find lots of old Beetle bugs they're pretty popular there .

So here's route spec based on the last few days of replies. Given the dates, I think we actually have all the stops. The actual PIT STOPS might not be exactly in the cities listed, but they should be close. As for mileage, I think there must be some significant driving miles to fill in the gaps. There's just not room in the dates for any major legs we don't know about. Anyway, here goes... note that Episodes 1 & 12 are TWO-HOUR single episodes divided into 2 chunks each below...

EPISODE 1 (HOUR 1)
START: Denver (November 7, 2005)
Red Rocks Amphitheatre, I-70, various reddish rock formations surrounding teams in cars, sighting in airport
FINISH: Sau Paulo, Brazil (overnight at Pacaembu County Stadium) (November 9, 2005)
Via de Ifgenia bridge, helipad/helicopter task, motorcycle task, stadium
MILEAGE COVERED: apx 5751 miles (plane) + driving/helicopter miles
TEAMS LEFT AFTER EPISODE: 11

EPISODE 1 (HOUR 2)
START: Sau Paulo, Brazil (Pacaembu County Stadium) (November 10, 2005)
FINISH: Brazil location B (November 10, 2005)
Lots of spec as to where, but they probably take a Santa Rita bus to get there
Earlier mention of Iguazu Falls in an Australian promo, but could be recycled AND it’s quite far from Sao Paulo
Possible location of VW bugs

This is a likely spot for a TBC leg, since we know they stay in the country until Darwin, which is not within easy driving distance of Perth (in other words, Perth & Darwin are probably not in the same episode)
Boat footage in preview could be ferry to Fremantle Prison (look at water off Perth on Google earth compared to aerial shots of boat in TAR9 previews)
MILEAGE COVERED: apx 1000 miles? + driving miles

EPISODE 9 (continued from Episode 8 )

EPISODE 12 (HOUR 2)
START: Anchorage, Alaska (December 3, 2005)

Do we have any real evidence of Denver as the finish city or could this be a decoy?
It would be an easy decoy to set up.

Yeah, it would be interesting to know how much driving typically adds to mileage in the Race. Plane-wise, it's almost impossible to get to 60-70,000 miles. I don't see how they possibly got that number based on how tight the dates are in this race.

I don't know if anyone has posted this link, but here's a list of day-trips from Sao Paulo on Santa Rita... spec away...

As to the route spec above, Rome/Sicily could be potentially combined, but even so -- where they gonna go in 2 days to make up for some mileage? Same could be said for the Australian legs. You could squeeze in another leg or two, but they have to go to close-by places right after those legs (Greece, Thailand), so unless they go way WAY out of their way...

I guess no one is buying Africa on the route .. :cocky: ? unless as someone mentioned it is just what it says , " a stop ".

I figure if that article got the date wrong, their credibility goes down a little.  ???

As for Africa, I'm guessin' that if they fly from Sao Paulo to Oman, there's a little layover in Cairo or something.

If there's another leg, it's gotta be right in that Europe area, dontcha think? It can't be before Rome, b/c there need to be nine teams left at that leg. It can't be anywhere after Moscow, because all those dates are locked in.

Maybe they do kind of a long distance leap instead of a direct route, like in TAR6 when they went from Sweden to SENEGAL to Germany, instead of just Sweden to Germany. That probably added like 5000 or 6000 miles right there. But if they don't go to Africa, where are they leaping? Maybe Rome to Oman to Greece instead of Oman to Rome to Greece? Dunno.

Maybe they take a plane up on a glacier or Mt. McKinley and have to ski down? Although, if that ski footage is from the actual race & not Fran & Barry pre-footage, would the Race have given them matching jackets for the task?

The race begins in Denver, Colorado when teams quickly jet off to their first location, Sao Paulo, Brazil where, upon landing, they must venture deep into the heart of the city to find their next clue at the Hotel Unique. Almost immediately, teams make their way by foot to Viaduto Santa Ifigenia, a pedestrian footbridge overlooking the highway and the Vale do Anhangabuau. One team struggles to locate the clue box, while other teams seem to find it with ease.

At the bridge, teams are faced with their first detour and must choose between finding a local motorcycle shop, where they will have to assemble a motorcycle from scratch, or soar high above the city of San Paolo in a helicopter in order to locate a specific building where they will find their next clue

Puddin, I think you are right about the Dee's approach.  We do see one give a kiss to a mechanic!

This site (http://www.richscyclecenter.com/hr3-motorcycle-kits/) says it takes 80 to 100 hours to build their kits!   ???

Frequently asked questions about the bike kits:
1. Can anyone put them together???
Anyone with basic mechanical knowledge can put these together.
2. How much does it cost to ship?
Usually it costs anywhere from $275-$400.00 to ship anywhere in the U.S.
3. Can any of the parts be substituted?
No parts cannot be substituted. You can purchase additional parts at any
time from us at a discount. Check Custom Chrome, Drag Specialities
Catalog and give us the part numbers and we will then quote you prices.
4. Does the Bike Kit come with everything you need
Yes this kit comes with everything you need to put it together except the paint
and gas and labor. The transmission, engine and wheels come pre-assembled. It
also comes with a parts manual and instruction manual.
5. How long does it take to put it together?
Normally if you have any mechanical ability, you should be able to put this together
within 80 to 100 hours.

That could be a taxi MoJo are in.  As I remember it many cabs were old VW Bugs with little room for "luggage" so maybe backpacks are in the back seat with them. and they drove like hell on wheels around the city. But when the crashed, which they did quite often, they had to send out the street sweepers to clean up what was left of the wreck.

I really think that the helicopter task is more difficult.  From what I read Sao Paulo has a lot of helipads and the city is huge. It would be like looking for a needle in a haystack.  The motorcycle would be less difficult. IMHO.

There is a one page "Phil Keoghan's Amazing Race Diary" spread in this week's TV Guide. Not too much exciting info...confirms that we have a start from Red Rocks Ampitheater (as spoiled here and shown in commercials) and the first leg travels to Brazil. He notes that the flight that is supposed to arrive first is delayed, and many of the racers don't realize that Spanish is not the official language of Brazil.

He mentions Lake and Michelle ("light packers"), BJ and Tyler (stating they are immediately nicknamed "The Hippies" by other teams), and Dani and Danielle (Tyler dubs them "Double Ds"), as well as praising Yolanda, who has "the most amazing legs" of the racers.

The detour is "Motorhead or Rotorhead" and involves a choice between building a motorcycle or navigating for marked roofs from a helicopter. There is a candle lighting ceremony that the teams must take place in to receive a clue at some point as well.

Am I missing something from "Phil's Diary"?    :-\

Where are the buses seen in the commercials?  If the diary is correct, they finish the cultural ceremony by 4PM and reach the pitstop (Pacaembu Stadium) by 5PM.  Or is Phil describing only the first hour, and we get 2 complete episodes back to back with 2 eliminations? No, can't be, it's never happened before. Doesn't seem like enough to fill 2 hours.   :knock:

Phil Keoghan's Amazing Race Diary
The globe-trotting host takes us along on the exotic new season's first leg.

thanks to puddin's scan   :jam:

Day One 6:30 am: There's always this great feeling before the race begins, the calm before the storm. As the teams arrive at Red Rocks Amphitheatre outside Denver, you can't imagine that in an hour and a half this wild animal will be let out of its cage. I like to walk along the line of the teams' bags to see who has planned ahead and who is unrealistic about what they're going to haul around for the next month. While some teams have decided they're on a luxury trip, husband-and-wife team Lake and Michelle Garner have packed light.

11 am: Teams start arriving at Denver International Airport and have to get on one of three flights to Brazil. I put on a hat and sit in the corner to hear what the teams say, since it's the first time they're allowed to talk to each other. It never ceases to amaze me how quickly they give each other nicknames. Instantly, the teams decide best friends B.J. Averell and Tyler MacNiven are "The Hippies," since they are very hairy guys. Then B.J. and Tyler spot another team, Danielle Torchio and Danielle Turner. It's fair to say the two Danielles are shapely, and Tyler decides they're "The Double-Ds".

Day Two 9:30 am: We've made it to the Sao Paulo Airport in Brazil and things are already going wrong. The flight that was meant to land first is delayed. And some teams haven't realized the language in Brazil is Portuguese, not Spanish.

1 pm: There are 2 popular ways of getting around in Sao Paulo - motorbikes or helicopters - so the race's first detour is a choice we've decided to call "Motorhead vs. Rotorhead." They have to either assemble a motorcycle from scratch or take a helicopter over the city and look for a specific roof to land on to claim their clue. There's quite a scene at the shop where they're putting the bikes together. One team has decided to assemble theirs in the street, and the locals are excited about one female team member, Yolanda Brown Moore, who has the most amazing legs on the race.

4 pm: Many of the teams have finished the challenge and have arrived at a warehouse to watch an indigenous cultural ceremony. The teams are required to take part by lighting a candle and handing it to one of the locals to receive their next clue. Some become visibly affected.

5 pm: Finally, everyone starts showing up at the first pit stop. Something I often hear from teams at the first mat chat is that the Race is nothing like they expected. Everyone thinks it looks so easy on TV, but are shocked at how dificult it really is. And this is just the beginning. There's more than 50,000 miles to the finish line, and cameras will be rolling every step of the way.

I'm just playing catchup and trying to piece some things together which may or may not have been determined. I'm putting my thoughts here so feel free to add to or correct.

11/7 Day 1. Travel from Denver to Sao Paulo (overnight in air)

11/8 Day 2. Arrive Sao Paulo - Do Detour and Roadblock??
Arrive pacaembu stadium and grab morning bus departure time from selected tent
Overnight in stadium/tent
(Note: double d's are wearing pink)

11/9 Day 3. Travel by bus to Brotos?
Waterfall adventure (is this the roadblock?)
Pit stop.
(Note: different day since double d's are wearing yellow)

Thats 3 days before pitstop which fits in with Lisa and Joni's statement of "going without a shower for 3 days".

EPISODE 12 (HOUR 1)
START: Tokyo, Japan (December 1, 2005)
FINISH: Anchorage, Alaska (December 2, 2005) – might be pit stop or just rest stop
Rusts flying service, skiing (if this isn’t Fran/Barry in CO footage?), sighting in airport
MILEAGE COVERED: apx 3487 miles (flying) + driving/biplane miles

Do you include the distance of connections? I bet they do.   Because Tokyo to Anchorage seems to go through Seattle.

Good call Chateau -- nope, my mileages were just as the crow flies. Connections alone probably give us another 5,000-10,000 miles.

Looking at the quick pace of the first episode (below), I do still wonder if we're missing a leg somewhere. The dates would allow it. Wouldn't be shocked still to have a second SA leg, another leg in Russia, something like that.

EPISODE 1 (HOUR 1)
START: Denver (November 7, 2005 AM)
Red Rocks Amphitheatre, I-70, various reddish rock formations surrounding teams in cars, sighting in airport
FINISH: Sao Paulo, Brazil (overnight Pacaembu County Stadium) (November 8, 2005 PM)
Hotel Unique, Via de Ifgenia bridge, Motorhead/Rotorhead detour, indigenous ceremony, stadium
MILEAGE COVERED: apx 5751 miles (plane) + driving/helicopter miles
TEAMS LEFT AFTER EPISODE: 11

EPISODE 1 (HOUR 2)
START: Sau Paulo, Brazil (Pacaembu County Stadium) (November 9, 2005 AM)
FINISH: Brotas, Brazil (November 9, 2005 PM)
Take Santa Rita bus, do task at waterfall (roadblock?)
Possible location of VW bugs
MILEAGE COVERED: apx 100-500 miles? (bus) + driving miles
TEAMS LEFT AFTER EPISODE: 10

Did Phil give away which direction the race route takes ,Deserts of Oman to mountains of Sicily to the winter snows of Moscow?

Phil quote (http://www.canada.com/saskatoonstarphoenix/story.html?id=29b98c16-022e-4b53-baf3-8a8691340079&k=4207)

" with an existing relationship,'' tearing their way through five continents and more than 60,000 miles in 29 days.
Keoghan, a career adventurer, New Zealand TV host and author of self-help inspiration books such as No Opportunity Wasted, insists the new Amazing Race will be a return to the adrenaline rush of old. It will feature fascinating people living out their dreams in a series of exciting adventures, from the deserts of Oman to the mountains of Sicily to the winter snows of Moscow, in a mad dash to cross the finish line first and win $1 million.

It's The Great Race meets Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines, with a dash of National Geographic thrown in for good measure, and a lot of waiting at airports.

Pondering the one page write up in TV Guide, I think the author has compressed three days into two days.  The 4PM and 5PM entries in the "diary" I think are from day 3 in Brotas, Brazil and not in Sao Paulo.  The second day in Sao Paulo probably ends with a sleep over in the stadium after locating clues which give them their departure times on the bus to Brotas the next day.  Phil does not usually talk to the teams until they reach the mat at the end of the episode. Just from the looks on the teams faces I think that the Double D's, the Hippies, and the two handsome ones are on the first bus out which means they were the first teams to locate clues at the stadium.

Lisa and Joni probably were the ones having trouble locating the clue box on the Viaduto Santa Ifigeniaq and then had trouble plutting the motor bike together and then finally finding the last clue at the stadium.  They are the only ones giving us a "confessional" which usually occurs at the sleep over spot at the end of the second day. This all seems to add up to the remark that the race "was a lot harder then we thought it would be" and fits in with Phil's remarks.

If the pattern follows in the first episode (two hour) of TAR9, then there will only be one Detour which we now know is the Motorhead or Rotorhead.  In all previous first episides there has only been one Detour and no Roadblocks. In the first four TAR's there also was a Fast Forward in the first episode, but not after TAR5.  So that means that on the third day in Brotas all tasks will be team tasks.

The usual scenario for the first episode is to have the teams go through a lot of travelling, using different modes of transportation, getting familiar with each other, sleepingout in the open, and learning of the joys and pitfals of travel in a foreign country with not knowing the language, etc. etc.  The harder tasks seem to start in episode two.

I feel wonderful being a TAR veteran! But you're right, practically everything here is recycled. I've bolded those that I cannot identify and those that are new. There are billions of TAR6 caps throughout all the previews, but one strangely disproportionate one is Hong Kong, which keeps repeating over and over. Any significance to this?

1. Plane landing. Never seen this before. Looks military to me though.
2. Digitally created horizon, from Opening Sequence.
3. Seljalandsfoss, Iceland, TAR6.1
4. Vatnajokull Glacier, Iceland, TAR6.1
5. Repulse Bay, Hong Kong, TAR2.7
6. Train, Voss, Norway, TAR6.2
7. Lake Michigan, Chicago, USA, TAR6.1
8. Highway 1, Iceland, TAR6.1
9. Camels, Cairo, Egypt, TAR5.5
10. Parthenon, Athens, Greece
11. Skydiving, Cairns, Australia, TAR4.12
12. Mary sand-sledding, Matterhorn, Namibia, TAR2.4
13. Eiffel Tower, Paris, France, TAR1.2
14. Skyline, Hong Kong, TAR2.7
15. Horse Caravan, Cairo, Egypt, TAR5.5
16. Pyramid, Cairo, Egypt, TAR5.5
17. Giant Clam, El Nido, Palawan, TAR5.12
18. El Nido, Palawan, TAR5.12
19. Germanic buildings, the one we've been discussing in previous previews.
20. Skyline, Shanghai, China, TAR6.11
21. Mountains. I think we've seen this before in TAR4, in the Dolomites.
22. Ascender, El Nido, Palawan, TAR5.12
23. Iceland Air plane. Discussed as before.
24. Citadel, Calvi, Corsica, TAR6.8
25. Beach I can't recognize. Hawaii?
26. Can't see this properly. Too dark...
27. More of Hong Kong, TAR2.7
28. Plane taking off, Chicago, TAR6.1
29. Looks like the Dolomites to me again. But it could be Sicily!
30. Corinth Canal, Greece

I compiled all of the boat clips into one. I also deinterlaced so I lost some video quality.

I feel wonderful being a TAR veteran! But you're right, practically everything here is recycled. I've bolded those that I cannot identify and those that are new. There are billions of TAR6 caps throughout all the previews, but one strangely disproportionate one is Hong Kong, which keeps repeating over and over. Any significance to this?

1. Plane landing. Never seen this before. Looks military to me though.
2. Digitally created horizon, from Opening Sequence.
3. Seljalandsfoss, Iceland, TAR6.1
4. Vatnajokull Glacier, Iceland, TAR6.1
5. Repulse Bay, Hong Kong, TAR2.7
6. Train, Voss, Norway, TAR6.2
7. Lake Michigan, Chicago, USA, TAR6.1
8. Highway 1, Iceland, TAR6.1
9. Camels, Cairo, Egypt, TAR5.5
10. Parthenon, Athens, Greece
11. Skydiving, Cairns, Australia, TAR4.12
12. Mary sand-sledding, Matterhorn, Namibia, TAR2.4
13. Eiffel Tower, Paris, France, TAR1.2
14. Skyline, Hong Kong, TAR2.7
15. Horse Caravan, Cairo, Egypt, TAR5.5
16. Pyramid, Cairo, Egypt, TAR5.5
17. Giant Clam, El Nido, Palawan, TAR5.12
18. El Nido, Palawan, TAR5.12
19. Germanic buildings, the one we've been discussing in previous previews.
20. Skyline, Shanghai, China, TAR6.11
21. Mountains. I think we've seen this before in TAR4, in the Dolomites.
22. Ascender, El Nido, Palawan, TAR5.12
23. Iceland Air plane. Discussed as before.
24. Citadel, Calvi, Corsica, TAR6.8
25. Beach I can't recognize. Hawaii?
26. Can't see this properly. Too dark...
27. More of Hong Kong, TAR2.7
28. Plane taking off, Chicago, TAR6.1
29. Looks like the Dolomites to me again. But it could be Sicily!
30. Corinth Canal, Greece

Thank you for all your work!!!!

Thanks, Banzai. I think 26 is sunrise at Mesa, AZ; that looks like one of the Extra 300s sitting on the ground.

25 is the pit stop beach in Quepos. It may also be where they swam to the bouy the next day, but I'm not sure.
