I didn't recognize any brazillian sitings in the preview. But i'd probably only recognize something if it were Rio de Janeiro sitings.

OK this is pure spec by me but looking around at the screen caps a of the granny's its looks like Sao paulo is where they fly to first. Going through the ameircan express flight guide, the most logical places they fly through are la for united then on to varig, then dallas all the way through sao paulo on american.

Was led here by the weecama trail. Man, the spoiling is good here!

The overhead bridge that the lady is running on is indeed in Brazil. Sao Paulo, in fact. It's the Viaduto Santa Ifigenia. Varig's only flights from the United States (Los Angeles, New York and Miami) all head to Sao Paulo, so this isn't that much trouble.

http://www.larsoft.com.br/Luciano/Lindos%2006A.jpg

The second shot is Shibuya Crossing, in one of the billions of shopping districts in Tokyo. You can find the Samsung and HMV neon signs in the background.

Nice find, Sups. Root around the parent page and you'll find links to the two people--Dudley and Nicole.

(Both D&N show blog entries through the month of November,so...maybe not. They do look similar, though.)

going from denver to miami to catch varig wouldnt work. the daily flight in november left miami at 10 and arrived at 905pm. going denver-la on united to catch varig works also. denver-dallas on american then flying american to brazil would work. the only denver-ny flight that would work is jet blue to jfk then jkf to Sao Paulo on varig

I have a hunch the monkey photos might be Lopburi in Thailand, which holds a monkey festival in Nov. Compare the food in the mask cap with the type of feast set out here (http://community.webshots.com/photo/230959074/244078092cdhfDD). I haven't found a match with the ruins, though (note the pedestal in the background of the cap with what looks to be a Buddha statue).

Didn't know if this should go in spoilers or in here, so I put it in both...

So, just some shots in the dark here as to possible route map/episode order based on sightings/last night's preview/others' thoughts. Certainly some of these could end up being combined legs with other destinations we don't know about.

EP1: Denver (Red Rocks Amphitheatre) to Sao Paulo, Brazil (bridge)
EP2: Sao Paulo to Europe Destination 1 (pure speculation - cars in helicopter shot from preview look European to me)
EP3: Europe Destination 1 to Paestum/Corinth, Greece (ruins, diving into canal)
EP4: Paestum/Corinth to Moscow, Russia (basilica, ballet)
EP5: Moscow to Perth, Australia (newspaper)
EP6: Perth to Darwin, Australia (newspaper)
EP7: Darwin to Adelaide, Australia (sighting)
EP8: Adelaide to Singapore
EP9: Singapore to Lopburi, Thailand (masks)
EP10: Lopburi to Tokyo (shopping district, Mt. Fuji)
EP11: Tokyo to Anchorage (sighting, red plane)
EP12: Anchorage to Denver

I think the route's pretty close, but again there will undoubtedly be some variations and other destinations.

Someone over at TWOPs suggests that the greek temple is in Segesta, Sicily.  I google pictures of this temple and they resemble the one in cap #3.  I really think they went to Sicily not Greece.

Maybe puddin can help put up a picture, I really cant get it to work.

Hope this helps.

That's DEFINITELY Segesta (http://faculty.cua.edu/pennington/Religion402/Architecture/SegestaTemple.htm). The bungee jumping is almost definitely Corinth. Maybe Sicily AND Greece as below?

EP1: Denver (Red Rocks Amphitheatre) to Sao Paulo, Brazil (bridge)
EP2: Sao Paulo to Segesta, Sicily (ruins)
EP3: Segesta to Corinth, Greece (diving into canal)
EP4: Corinth to Moscow, Russia (basilica, ballet)
EP5: Moscow to Perth, Australia (newspaper)
EP6: Perth to Darwin, Australia (newspaper)
EP7: Darwin to Adelaide, Australia (sighting)
EP8: Adelaide to Singapore
EP9: Singapore to Lopburi, Thailand (masks)
EP10: Lopburi to Tokyo (shopping district, Mt. Fuji)
EP11: Tokyo to Anchorage (sighting, red plane)
EP12: Anchorage to Denver

3 legs in Australia?? Isn't that too much?
Title: Re: TAR 9 Preview
Post by: woden on December 14, 2005, 01:54:37 PM
It does seem like a lot - those legs could be combined. But those three cities all have sightings and they're pretty far apart (http://gladstone.uoregon.edu/~ldangerm/australia/map.gif). They often have multiple legs in one country (2 in Argentina/India in TAR7, 2 in China in TAR6, 2 in Argentina/Egypt in TAR5, etc, etc). Three would be unprecedented, I think, so maybe the best bet is that 2 of those Australia legs happen in one episode?

Maybe those elephants were in India? (http://www.elephant.se/mahout.php) The guys on the elephants don't look like they're from Thailand or Burma. Doesn't seem like too many places specialize in elephant-riding.

I dont think those girls are Double D, the look more like sisters or twins so with that i dont think they would both be named Danielle.  Double D also look blonde in the picture at the ariport (or at least i thought they did), and they are not blonde.  They also dont have a Staten Island Accent witch i would have thought this team to have its Double D from SI.

I agree that team 2 is the Double D's.

Quote
"There will be some prominent landmarks featured," promised the typically secretive Keoghan by cell phone from the set of the show's ninth season, now shooting "somewhere near the Middle East."

This shot must be middle eastern. Either a camel or lama is kissing the camera but you can see a person wearing a saree to the left of it.

I dunno team 10, i dont know they just look real alike thought dont you think.  After re-looking they do look they are team three so i guess i am wrong.
I dont think they will last to long anyway.

The monkey can be from a second south american leg, otherwise its prob, SE Asia.

You two did find the ruins. Heres some additional shots.
You can keep those monkeys. If teams have to go in there with them it may be a comical episode! (read below)

"If you can't make it to Lopburi during festival season, the city is well worth the 3-hour train ride from Bangkok (through Ayutthaya). Prang Sam Yot, a Khmer temple located just north of the train station, is the centre of activity.

A 30 baht entrance fee includes the loan of a long bamboo stick for self-defense against aggresively curious primates. This allows tourists to play Indiana Jones for an afternoon, exploring the solemn stone temple and it's crumbling Buddhas. All the while, the fearless creatures won't hesitate to climb onto their unsuspecting spectators. These monkeys are said to have been a gift to the town centuries ago, when Hanuman the Monkey King was granted rule of the area by the mythic Hindu figure Rama."

By looking at the preview for TAR9, I thought I saw an old couple (the far right and last to appear in line).

I really do think you're on the right track with the fencework of the kraal (animal pen, locally called "phaniat" if you're doing web searches). Here's a government webpage (http://www.tourism.go.th/article.php?Id=192&Ntype=3) that shows elephants play-jousting like in the cap.
The thing is the dudes in the flash intro don't wear hats and fancy saddles or whatever they are called , could be our elephant dudes are practicing for the camaras , you know putting on a little show for the picture ? and yeah the fence looks close .

I'm still not sure those elephant guys are Asian, both from skin color and hairstyle. The guy on the right seems to have thicker, corser hair than most Asian people. The skin appears way too dark. I really think these guys are in India, where elephants are a big deal (remember the "push the elephant through the streets of India" deal in TAR7?). The fencing is generic enough that it could be from any developing country. Besides, the Race is in love with India - it's one of few safe stopping grounds in that area. Plus, this race looks to already have some LONG initial legs (Denver to Sao Paulo, Sao Paulo to Sicily) that Moscow to southeast Asia seems a little chunky without a break somewhere in between. Maybe something like the following?

EP1: Denver (Red Rocks Amphitheatre) to Sao Paulo, Brazil (bridge)
EP2: Sao Paulo to Segesta, Sicily (ruins)
EP3: Segesta to Corinth, Greece (diving into canal)
EP4: Corinth to Moscow, Russia (basilica, ballet)
EP5: Moscow to India (elephants)
EP6: India to Perth, Australia (newspaper)
EP7a: Perth to Darwin (newspaper/sighting) - TBC
EP7b: Darwin to Adelaide to Singapore
EP8: Singapore to Lopburi, Thailand (masks)
EP9: Lopburi to Tokyo (shopping district, Mt. Fuji)
EP10: Tokyo to Anchorage (sighting, red plane)
EP11: Anchorage to Denver

Other problem here, though. This is only like 40,000 miles of travel - nowhere near the 60,000 mentioned on the preview. What could make up for that kind of difference?

Maybe there's a LOT of driving within each location or to surrounding towns. They probably count all that in the final mileage as well.

Also, it wouldn't at all be surprising if there's a 2nd South American leg we don't know about, maybe down to Chile (that would add over 5,000 miles right there) or something -- or a trip up to mainland Asia before or after Australia maybe...

Sad to say, but the digital rip I got from *ahem*alternative sources*cough* turned out to be of better quality than the analog signal I piped directly through my capture card. Wow. I'm pretty impressed with the helicopter info. Looks like it's registered in Brazil -- lots of Brazil stuff in the preview... maybe there are multiple legs there?

I got on that Airliners site yesterday trying to get an ID on the white plane with a blue-tip tail in the nerds running shot from the Preview, but it would take a pretty serious investigation to figure that out. More time than I'm looking to spend, at least.

To add to the pinning of the helicopter in Brazil, there is an advertisement painted on the side of a building that the helicopter flies over.  In the ad there is a telephone number expressed as nnnn-nnnn.  This is the standard structure for numbers in Brazil (maybe other places too but at least it is consistent.

You should take into consideration another country in South America.  I cannot imagine them going to Brazil and just going to Sao Pablo.  Usually they have visited 2 countries in every continent visited.  Maybe in South America they went to Peru. Or other cities in Brazil.  They have a really beutiful country, and could have spend 2 legs there. =]/

I think I've made some progress on the dancers, but I'm not ready to call it a match yet. Compare Puddin's cap to a cap I made from video at the Gzhel (http://www.gzhel-zakharov.ru/foto_en.html) website. There are so many changes of costume; it looks more like a Vegas act than folk-dancing! I'm going to check out some other troupes and cities before calling it, though.

Yes, go here (http://www.dac.gov.br/aeronavesing/frab.asp) and enter the tail number (I can't link to it directly). Not much useful information, and nothing about the owner--just "private air services" (I'm surprised I got that much). As far as the nerd team photo, it looks like they're walking away from another Robinson 44.

I'm so glad they were here in Brazil again! I agree with charlierose, though. Two legs in São Paulo is too much. I higly doubt it.  Maybe there's a lot of Brazil in the preview because it's the first leg and they haven't edited the rest yet.

The airport is a bit of a puzzle. I used GE to compare the cap with various airports around Sao Paulo and found a match in Campo de Marte (code SBMT). The editing would have us think Varig landed there but from this description (http://www.infraero.gov.br/usa/aero_prev_home.php?ai=218) that seems unlikely. I'm thinking maybe Marte was the site for the nerd-hangar caps, but I haven't found a match yet.

Those dancers sure LOOK Russian to me. They are without a doubt Eastern European, and it seems unlikely (to me at least) that they'd throw another leg into eastern Europe...

Some other thoughts & a revised route map with confirmed/conjectured dates added...

EP1: Denver (Red Rocks Amphitheatre) (11/7) to Ottawa, Canada
EP2: Ottawa to Sao Paulo, Brazil (bridge, airstrips, yellow helicopter)
EP3: Sao Paulo to Segesta, (Sicily) Italy (ruins)
EP4: Segesta to Corinth, Greece (diving into canal)
EP5: Corinth to Moscow, Russia (St. Basil’s, ballet)
EP6: Moscow to India (elephants)
EP7: India to Perth/Rottnest, Australia (11/24) (newspaper)
EP8a: Perth/Rottnest to Darwin (11/25) (newspaper/sighting) TBC
EP8b: Darwin to Adelaide (11/26) to Lopburi, Thailand (masks, monkeys, Buddha)
EP9: Lopburi (11/27-28??) to Tokyo (11/29-30??) (shopping district, Mt. Fuji)
EP10: Tokyo to Anchorage (12/1) (sighting, red plane)
EP11: Anchorage (12/2) to Denver (12/3)

We may be missing a location or two in the beginning somewhere (11/7-11/24) – the dates don’t add up. Flights will chew up some days, but not enough to cover 17 days between Denver and Perth/Rottnest. Maybe a couple episodes in India like they've done before. A while back, there was a spoiler about going from Denver to Ottawa? (Puddin from OC Register 12/5) This would add a lot of mileage, which would make sense. No connections thru Ottawa to Sao Paolo, right? So they couldn’t have flown from Denver to Sao Paulo thru Ottawa. I toyed with idea of westward trip around globe, but timing doesn’t make sense. Post in Spoilers yesterday mentioned the desperate couple in the Adelaide airport trying to get to Singapore. When they didn’t, they used their previously booked flight to Sydney. Makes me think they were just trying to connect to Lopburi or elsewhere in Thailand (via Singapore OR Sydney) instead of going to Singapore as a destination, so I’ve taken Singapore out of the route map. Must have just been a faster flight going through Singapore. This would certainly be a grueling race (like TAR1) like Phil described in the interview – it is ALL over the map.

That's true... the date of the sighting in Ottawa doesn't jibe with the start date of the race, and that story might have been the source of info for the OC article. Besides, Ottawa (no offense) seems like kind of a sucky starting destination -- I can picture the teams opening the envelope and saying: "Ottawa? Crap! I didn're realize we were on the family edition..."

But I dunno... I won't write off Ottawa entirely just yet...

I really think we are missing something in South America. Having such a long flight to Brasil, just for one or two locations, doesnt seem right.

Another thing.  I dont think they used VARIG to get to Brasil.  They might have used another airline.  Varig had to be used for flights inside of Brasil.

varig is a member of the star allience. going back since tar5 united and american have been used one way or another for the first flight out of the starting city. so if they flew to la they caught the varig flight from lax, and flew to dallas on american since going to miami wouldnt work out cause of the flights. so la to brazil on varig works. or they could of gone to chicago on united and took another united flight to sao paulo. but they had to go to another place in south america also using varig

About the teams, someone posted a more detailed description on the forum at tv.com. I don't know if it's accurate, though:

Team 1: A curly redhead is pictured, however her partner is not. Rumoured to be a guy and this is the newlywed or engaged couple.

Team 2:Young brunette females could be sisters and could use flirting as a weapon.

Team 3:These people are probably Amish. The man is bearded and the woman has puffy blonde hair. They are middle aged. Prtobably a married couple. They dressed very odd.

Team 4:This team could have a racially mixed male and a African American Female. They look like Frank/Margarita.
Could be a strong team. Probably a dating couple.

Team 5:an all male team. One male is Italian. Rumoured they are friends and one is strait and one is Gay. The First ever gay/strait friend both the same gender.

Team 6:Very tall man and very short blonde Female. He looks older than her and could be a father/daughter team or a way older dating team like Ray/Deana

Team 7:The Granny team like Peggy/Claire. However they look about 50. They could be the first lezz couple

Team 8:An all-male team however not too strong.

Team 9:An country middle age couple. Probably just a bit older than Debra/Steve.

Team 10: Young Asian females. First time we have an all asian team.

Team 11: The nerds. Rumoured than the Female in this group could be Angie from Survivor Palau

Just a note about my (lack of) progress on the Russian front. Use the two Puddin caps below for reference. At first I thought it was the changing of the Kremlin guard, a recently re-instituted ceremony. The flag on the right is of course Russian, and I thought the flag on the left might be a guard flag. Compare with this photo (http://www.trekearth.com/gallery/Asia/Russia/photo279767.htm). The flag is similar but it's hard to tell; the insignia of the guard (the double-headed eagle, seen here (http://www.tridentmilitary.com/New-Photos2/r731.jpg) as a sleeve patch) might be at the flag's center. But the uniforms are very different; some have suggested that it's a different set of duds for winter, but I think it's best to keep looking.

Post by: Slowhatch on December 16, 2005, 10:15:47 PM
I'm just trying to nail down the who and where of the photos. It's in Russia, of course, and probably in Moscow (St. Basil's) and maybe at the Kremlin. It would be great if it were the changing of the Guard, because there's a time-stamp attached to the ceremony--only on Saturdays. I'm hoping to avoid checking out all the variations in uniforms and badges (want to look at shoulder patches? here's a gazillion (http://www.tridentmilitary.com/russian.militaria.htm) of them |().
On a different topic: any luck with the blogs, Puddin? You'd think somebody would have blabbed about the nerds or bartenders by now.

Yes, it's close--maybe a match. Here's another photo of a guard on the official Putin page (http://president.kremlin.ru/eng/articles/opened.shtml). I looked through the Kremlin photos trying to find a match for the railing and the building in the background, but no luck.

Kremlin Guards Dress like Cosmonauts for the Winter
Federal Guard Service workers, who are responsible for security at the Kremlin debuted their new winter uniforms yesterday, in this unseasonably arm autumn in Moscow.
The Voronezh clothing factory won the tender to supply the new uniforms. Sheepskin has been replaced by astrakhan fur. The service’s press service says that the new uniforms are more comfortable, lighter, warmer and more elegant, while still taking into consideration the ceremonial purposes of the guards’ appearance. The outer layer of the uniforms is resistant to all elements and made from the same fabric that is used for in preparation for space flights. The service’s spokesmen refused to reveal the cost of the new uniforms but said that they significantly increase the guards’ readiness for performance of their duties.

I sympathize. After two or three tries to get that link to the new uniform story, I gave up trying.
I've been working on cans the last half-hour and found some (more) confirmation for Thailand. Compare this detail of the mask cap with this photo (http://community.webshots.com/photo/510756533/510756533NYmqxR) in webshots (the can on the right). I don't even know what it says, but the script is a match.

I don't think it's a national flag; as I mentioned before, it might be the flag of the Kremlin guard or some other regimental flag. I ran it through the Flag Detective (http://www.flags.av.org/flags/) and the Flag Identifier (http://www.37.co.yu/fi/) without much luck. I might submit the cap to the people at the FOTW (http://www.crwflags.com/fotw/flags/) database and see if they know anything.

(How long has it been--TAR3, maybe--since racers were told to find a country represented by a flag?)

Once a Hindu Shrine, this is the landmark of Lopburi. As it is only some 200m (ca. 200yds) from the railway station, it's a place often visited first by tourists arriving by train. The shrine was constructed in Lopburi style from laterite (a reddish ferruginous soil formed in tropical regions by the decomposition of the underlying rocks) and sandstone and decorated with stucco. The adjoining Prangs (Khmer-style pagodas) signify the Hindu Trinity of Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva. In the reign of King Narai, the shrine was converted into a Buddhist temple. Some Buddhist designs can still be seen on it

Like the civil war re-enactors, it wouldn't have been a big deal for WRP to pay for performers and a food buffet and set up an off-date "amazing" monkey festival. The producers would just go to PomPom (http://www.geocities.com/spiderworksproductions/)--she worked on TAR1, TAR2, and BVM's earlier show "Wild Things"--give her some money and ask her to set it up.
Also, Lopburi and Ayutthaya are close to each other; tasks for both could be accomplished in a day.
Great monkey shot! :holidayC:

some info on the elephants in Ayutthaya
Quote
Elephant Kraal Pavilion
The Pavilion, utilized as the royal seat to witness the elephant round up, is situated north of the city island. In the past wild elephants would be trained here to become war or transport animals. It is thought that in the Ayutthaya period the stockade was inside the city wall, but this one was built later and was used up until the Bangkok period. In the middle of the stockade is a shrine where the elephant guardian is supposed to reside. Posts made of whole timbers form the fence where elephants were tied up during the training. An elephant round-up was demonstrated here in 1890, during the reign of King Rama V, for the benefit of the Tsarevitch, who later became Nicholas II of Russia, during his visit to Siam.

Here's a photo (source (http://www.unclepasha.com/moscow_tour/around_kremlin_manezh_3.htm)) of an area near Alexander Park with similar railing and a some stairs leading down (notice the foreground soldier in the cap, who seems to be standing on some stairs). The trouble is, there might be similar construction all over Moscow, so it's not at all conclusive.

I think you've got it Slowhatch.

Here is a spot <raises hands> I found with Google Earth.  I count about six of those squares in the pavement.  I guess the trees hide the railing at this spot.  But those rails are visible nearby.  Its Alexander Park.

Could it be around the reservoir at Central Park? I'm sure there are better pics than this but it's a start. The lamp post looks like a match. If these are the Double D's who live in Staten Island they might bartend in Manhatten.

OK, I think we're getting closer. Here's a blog picture (source (http://grahamglass.blogs.com/photos/moscow_aug_2005/dsc00739.html)) from August 2005 of the tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Compare the scaffolding with the background from the caps. Could the people in the background be standing near the tomb?

I'm borrowing your picture, Puddin. I think the video man was probably standing close to the point where this picture was taken, only with more zoom in the lens.

You are amazing Puddin!

The promo shot had the Unknown Soldier hidden by on lookers and soldiers.  And the construction masked the Kremlin wall.

Plus it looks like they re-surfaced the area.  It does not look the same as the satellite image.

FWIW, I think the most likely source for the ballet is Bolshoi in Moscow - it's big, it's famous, and we know they're in the area. The main stage is closed for renovations right now but performances are continuing on the "New Stage." I've tried to track down conclusive pics but nothing yet... y'all are better Googlers and might have more luck.

The costumes are traditional Russian and could be anything from Bolshoi's extensive wardrobe. Bolshoi is closed on Mondays and my guess is November 21 was the date of filming there before leaving for the land down under. I was hoping to get some conclusive weather reports from that day in Moscow, but it was pretty much cloudy the whole month of November. Anyway, this timing leaves time for an unknown SA/Europe leg at the beginning of the race. Guessing SA for now.

EP1: Denver (Red Rocks Amphitheatre) (11/7) to Sao Paulo, Brazil (bridge, airstrips, yellow helicopter)
EP2: Sao Paulo to S.A. DESTINATION 2
EP3: S.A. to Segesta, (Sicily) Italy (ruins)
EP4: Segesta to Corinth, Greece (diving into canal)
EP5: Corinth to Moscow, Russia (11/21??) (St. Basil’s, ballet)
EP6: Moscow to Perth/Rottnest, Australia (11/24) (newspaper)
EP7a: Perth/Rottnest to Darwin (11/25) (newspaper/sighting) TBC
EP7b: Darwin to Adelaide (11/26) to Lopburi, Thailand (masks, monkeys, Buddha)
EP8: Thailand leg 2? Lopburi/Attathaya? (11/27-28??)
EP9: Lopburi to Tokyo (11/29-30??) (shopping district, Mt. Fuji)
EP10: Tokyo to Anchorage (12/1) (sighting, red plane)
EP11: Anchorage (12/2) to Denver (12/3)

I think someplace has a 2nd leg that we don't know about -- for now, I'll guess Thailand since we have a couple different locations confirmed there.

It looks like a Hanuman (http://64.202.41.81/Merchant2/graphics/masksJPG/hanumanlarger.jpg) mask.
It's Coke (http://www2.coca-cola.com/presscenter/nr_20030124_thailand_vanilla_coke_launch.html).

I think we're close to finishing with the source material. If you want to call Alexander and Ayutthaya and Lopburi, they're all yours  :keetaC:; I feel confident we can move on to the last few remaining items, like the bartenders and the folk dancers.
(I just noticed your post-count; is a celebration planned for 20K?)

I'll try put something together later , lol going back and forth through the 14 pages is a task alone but is also a good read as to how it all came together .

It should be amusing if the teams go in with the monkeys. According the info in the website, tourists are given a long bamboo stick for self-defense against the aggressively curious monkeys. I hope the Double D's are still in the race at that time!!!  :lolCX:

It's the Prang Sam Yod:

I know I shouldn't pick  :lolCX: but this info is back on page 6.

It looks like the date of the monkey festival is the last weekend, esp Sunday of November.

That would put TAR teams there on November 26, 27 2005.

Long-time lurker, first time poster.

I think the theater is the "concert hall Russia" in Moscow (apparently right next to Red Square). I found this image (attached -- hope I'm doing this right -- if not, it's at http://www.kukuruza.info/images/photos/10_Kuk_big.jpg (http://www.kukuruza.info/images/photos/10_Kuk_big.jpg)) at a random website, and the lights/stage set up look to be quite the same.

As for the dancers, they are probably with the  http://www.gzhel-zakharov.ru/main_en.html (http://www.gzhel-zakharov.ru/main_en.html) (Moscow Dance Theatre Gzhel). Still looking for proof, but they were in Moscow at the time, and had performances at the concert hall bookending the TAR9 dates.

Of course, I could be totally off-base with this.

I spent the better part of an hour this afternoon trying to match the dancer with the soloists, but the makeup is just too darn heavy, and her hair is completely obscured. Thank goodness I was working on our European publication, so combing through pictures of Russia looked like work.  8-)'

I used to travel 200+ days a year all over the world so I can relate to TAR and I lived in England/Scotland for 5 years so I had to get used to dealing in foreign languages (Cockney, Geordie and Glaswegian) {l{

I'm BACK! :waves:

and thanks to Puddin ( bless her little ole loveable heart) I was kept abreast of the outcome of TAR8 - thankfully the Weasels did not make the million or the bonus car.  Didn't the Bransens also win the Buick car, trailer, and a life-time supply of gasoline?

Now that you guys have pinpointed most of the locations for TAR9 there isn't much for the GMan to do until the first previews show up on See Bee Ess.

Had a great trip to Europe over Christmas and New Years. Cold and lots of snow almost every day.  Wonderful Christmas markets in towns along the Danube River with lots of handicrafts to buy (yeah, Credit Cards are accepted world wide) bratwurst and other sausage to eat, and hot mulled wine (Gluehwein) to keep your insides warm.

When we were in Vienna and Budapest I had the opportunity to visit many of the sites that were featured in TAR4 and TAR6 - very interesting. Even found the Sewer Entrance in Vienna but the whole system is shut down and being recronstructed for the first time in over 100 years!

So I see that TAR9 is going to Moscow; I wonder if they will visit any of the sites I visited when we were there last June?

Just i was sent by a source... TAR 9 was rushed to be filmed because of TARF (they called it fart) being so bad. It was to be filmed in January and broadcasted in May and finished in August as a lead in for Big brother, but they felt they needed to broadcast season9 faster so it was rushed, and it the reason its a few days short of the normal filmed dates cause Phil had to be back in America.

'Amazing Race' Toes Starting Line in February     :jumpy:

Monday, January 09, 2006
12:14 PM PT

Fans of "The Amazing Race" have done their best to forget this fall's underwhelming "Family Edition." Apparently CBS has too.
In announcing that the show will return to the airwaves at the end of February, the network makes no mention of the most recent installment, whose ratings lagged behind the two previous seasons. It does note, however, that the show "returns to its international format where teams of two will travel to exotic locations, spanning five continents."

All that will happen starting Tuesday, Feb. 28, when "The Amazing Race" launches its ninth run with a two-hour premiere. The announcement Monday (Jan. 9) follows on the heels of the unveiling of the latest group of "Survivor" contestants. That show returns Thursday, Feb. 2.

"Survivor" will have to face two weeks of NBC's Winter Olympics coverage after it premieres, but "The Amazing Race" will have no such hurdles. Its debut is scheduled for two days after the closing ceremonies in Torino, Italy.
Additionally, CBS says it's keeping the new dramedy "Love Monkey" in the 10 p.m. Tuesday hour after its Jan. 17 premiere; the original plan was to move it to 9 p.m. Tuesdays the following week.

In other scheduling news, UPN has bumped back the premiere date of its unscripted series "Get This Party Started." The show, originally scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 24, will now debut on Tuesday, Feb.

According to the Virtual Tourist (http://members.virtualtourist.com/m/82df4/22d25/) web page, this scene was shot from the amphitheater. So the racers probably do something at the theater and not really at the temple. The temple is unfinished and there's nothing inside. It's like the Natchez steam boat in TAR8. Just a fill-in scenery.

So the Staten Island bartender spoiler was right. I've found some similarities between the rollerskating cap and SilverLake reservoir on SI (especially the lampposts); I'm getting closer, but no exact match yet. The bar might be on SI as well.

Rats, having trouble with attachments. Anyway, compare Puddin's rollerskating cap (http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b105/rawalsh/TAR9_Preview/tarpreview00022.jpg) with this photo (http://www.nycgovparks.org/Photo_Collection/images/photos/Staten_Island/R022_1078771461.jpg) from the NYC parks site: as well as the lampposts, note the benches and stone paving design. I'm going to go ahead and call it for Silver Lake park. Moving on to local bars...

Very good slowhatch!  I'll second that.  Your picture is below along with another of silver lake park. Though it's winter, it confirms the fence that goes with the bench, stone paving and lamposts you identified.
