Title: TAR 31 Maps Thread
Post by: claude_24hrs on April 18, 2019, 09:21:48 AM

I think the restaurant was actually known as the Izakaya Mameyakko; did they call it "Tokyo Tokyo" after the doorway decoration to make it unsearchable on the internet?
Atago Shrine is walking distance from the "Mt Fuji" slide; teams would have saved time going on foot rather than looking for a cab!

Leg 2
I haven't found "BBQ Alley" yet. It might be in the night market, but I'm not sure.
I'm sure now; the alley entrance is between the Indigo Cafe and the red Western Union shack--here (https://goo.gl/maps/ojkmvtmbCJYTHAs6A).

Thanks Slowhatch! Here's Legs 3 and 4 in Ho Chi Minh City.

A few tidbits:
- The Detour options of Leg 3 (Reel It In/Light It Up) and Leg 4 (Irritation/Irrigation) are on the same island, with only one road in and out. Teams paying attention in Leg 3 would have a much easier time in Leg 4.
- It's a long run from the Binh Quoi Tourist Village to the Pit Stop, around 3.6km/2.2mi.
- Teams started Leg 5 outside the InterContinental Saigon, so I assume that was the Pit Stop hotel.

Leg 5: Dubai.

As to where I am... I'm hunting down the exact locations for Leg 6! ;)

Leg 7
Edit: What I thought was the DDP was actually the start and finish of the canyon Detour. The DDP/helo landing was the scree field--here (https://goo.gl/maps/hFYh9Jb1XRkLkYQdA)--about 1,000 ft. away. The Haaggen was just the rappel point.

The Pit Start was at the Peace Hub garden (https://www.spekeresort.com/peace-hub/) of Speke Resort, right next to Jahazi Pier.

Leg 8
Note: the Stansstad bridge shot was just misleading editing; the Afghanimals weren't that lost.

I'll put up the maps for Legs 7-8 later in case there are extra locations at the start of Leg 9, but Leo/Jamal were shown getting lost here (https://www.google.com/maps/@46.7444784,8.0601346,3a,60y,359.85h,94.33t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1scV6o9mDmjhOcjB2EYFSSww!2e0!7i13312!8i6656), here (https://www.google.com/maps/@46.7453687,8.0587515,3a,60y,271.39h,92.03t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sk5aYRu0cBauNKinkzCpO6g!2e0!7i13312!8i6656), and here (https://www.google.com/maps/@46.7064076,7.9598777,3a,15y,258.47h,92.85t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sQoScDdjc104fgqps9ivjeA!2e0!7i13312!8i6656).

From Ballenberg, teams should have turned left to get to Oberschwanden for the archery task, which is just 4.2km/2.6mi away. Leo/Jamal turned right onto the main highway instead, taking a route that would have taken them 6.7km/4.2mi, but would still bring them to the right place.

While entering Brienz, Leo/Jamal panic and make a U-turn, compounding their error by going the wrong way along Lake Brienz for another 9.4km/5.8mi in the wrong direction. In total, they travelled more than 25.5km/15.8mi, six times as much as they needed to.

Since my previous post didn't make sense without a map, here's Legs 7 and 8!
(Will update if there are additional locations in Switzerland for Leg 9.)

You are a legend for doing these, Neobie. The maps for Leg 7 look complicated.

Leg 9
The start was back in Meiringen.

Leg 10
Riva Travel (https://goo.gl/maps/Et3gWKSwMTcbbBNKA) (Split). Then...
I forgot about the W-Turn box; it was on the quay north of the bridge (you can see passengers on the Summertime (https://goo.gl/maps/NkxNnkQ8PXTRnxrw6) watching the teams)
Another omission!  :groan: The confessionals look like they were next to Monk's Mill (https://en.molendatabase.nl/nederland/molen.php?nummer=812).

Thanks Slowhatch! Here's Leg 9 in Split, Croatia.

Looks like Phil mixed up the cocktail-toting beach (Bacvice Beach) with Detour beach (Kasjuni Beach).
While the Detour Decision at the monastery was really close to the actual tasks at Kasjuni, teams would have had to take the long way round down the mountain and through the Marjanski Tunnel to get from one to the other.

Leg 10 in the Netherlands.

Lots of mistakes this leg! Becca/Floyd had to do an extra 6.2mi/10.1km round-trip to fetch an unbroken egg, and Leo/Jamal overshot their second boat by 0.6mi/1km before turning around.

I haven't found the start-line hotel yet.

Leg 12
Addition: from reading the Updates thread, it seems there was an unaired task at the Heidelberg Project (https://goo.gl/maps/ddGNge1tB3eoTUXT7).

Looks like the Pit Start was at De Koperen Hoogte (https://www.google.com/maps/@52.5843365,6.191658,499m/data=!3m1!1e3) just outside of Zwolle, 27km/17mi from the Pit Stop at Giethoorn!

Thanks Slowhatch! Here's Leg 11: London.

The route for the cab ride shown on TV wasn't 100% correct; teams turned West on Courtfield Rd and returned East on Harrington Gardens, instead of turning West on Harrington Gardens and back East on Old Brompton Rd. This means a couple of landmarks on the route, like the Bentley Hotel, were also mislabelled.

The reason why the rug was so hard to find in Camden Market is that it's on a different side from all the other items; a logical route would allow you to pick up the 7 other items easily, but you'd need to return to the start and go in the opposite direction to find the rug.
