Title: Any teams who have become more famous post-Race?
Post by: RachelLeVega on November 18, 2017, 12:08:37 PM
I've noticed that some reality competitions have produced successful celebrity figures such as American Idol, introducing Kelly Clarkson, Adam Lambert and Carrie Underwood to the world; Survivor, turning contestant Elisabeth Hasselback into a talk show hostess; and American Ninja Warrior, providing Jessie Graff the spotlight to become the "new Jackie Chan" with an incredible fan-base. Outside of CBS-Amazing Race territory, I've only immediately recognized Canaan Smith from season 15 who has grown his fame substantially by releasing a hit country single and discovered Blake from season 2 becoming the founder of TOMS shoes.

Are there any other media newcomers who went onto do and become bigger public figures? Those already well-known in their fields and media moments (Adam & Bethany, Josh & Brent, Caite Upton, Survivor/BB crossovers, etc.) don't count.

Stassi Schroeder was on the Bravo show Vanderpump Rules post TAR:FE.

Jamie was part of Playboy after her appearance on TAR 14.

Not sure if this completely counts but Amy Purdy went on to become a paralympian and was on Dancing with the Stars after TAR 21 (she did appear in a movie in 2005, but it was only shown in film festivals not in the cinema).

To add on with TAR Australia:

Nathan competed on Celebrity Apprentice Australia after TARAu 1.

Mel became a famous radio host after TARAu 1, which unfortunately led to the infamous prank call that led to the suicide of Kate Middleton's nurse.

Only ones I can think of off-hand are Canadian racers.

-Alain Chanoine from Season 2 landed his first Hollywood role last year playing Incubus in Suicide Squad.
-Lesbian couple Steph LeClair and Kristen McKenzie from Season 4 started a YouTube channel that in just over a year has accumulated 54,000 subscribers.

TAR4 Reichen for various reasons.  :D

For TARPH (and only in the Philippines, obviously)...
Season 1's Jervi (who had become a producer for TARPH2) is enjoying some fame now after a couple of funny viral videos. Also, Gee has gotten steady acting work on TV. Angel is a journalist for ABS-CBN.
Season 2's Phoebe is getting solid movie roles and attention.

I meant "more famous" as in gaining media exposure or achieving career heights after they ran the race, either due to the show itself or from their own interests and experiences. Jennifer Wayne's ACM nomination and Alex's DreamJobbing company certainly ring that bell. And as before, Blake definitely fits the bill. I guess the Beekman's new cookbook would be considered a step, but they had already built their upstate farm empire prior to the race.

Oh yeah, and Brian Thomas Smith (of Brian & Greg, S6) has been a cast member on the odd episode throughout the series as Zack, Penny's dimwitted ex, one not too long ago.

I like his character, wish he was on more episodes :P

Over the weekend, I was surprised to see a big feature on Nick Spangler (of Nick & Starr) in my SF Chronicle's Datebook section.
https://www.sfchronicle.com/music/article/Mormon-star-Nick-Spangler-in-S-F-for-12451590.php

I had no idea he has been in many shows, including on Broadway. The article mentions TAR as well.

Yeah. No idea where Starr is these days, though. He's never mentioned her on his Twitter.

Erika (of Dennis & Erika) became a producer after the show.

Jodi (of Christie & Jodi) also became a casting producer not for Amazing Race, but in Survivor as well.

Add this for The Amazing Race Asia:

Marc & Rovilson from season 2 became hosts of the first season of Asia's Got Talent.
Richard (Hardin) & Richard (Herrera) from season 4 became game crew panelists in the Philippine version of The Price is Right.

I also remembered Doyin from TAR 2 was the subject of this (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-2535899/Sweet-picture-father-taking-care-daughters-sparks-vicious-racist-response-branding-deadbeat-probably-sells-drugs.html) article of mild controversy.

How could... people be so rude to him? That makes my blood boil!

Ian Pollack from TAR 4 held or ran for  a local elective office in Florida for a few years

Justin Kanew, of Justin and Zev, is currently a candidate for Congress from Tennessee’s 7th District. Shortly after he announced, the GOP incumbent decided to run for the US Senate instead of for re-election

Reichen has done a lot; but most recently, he graduated from law school and passed his bar exam.
His Race partner, Chip Arndt, was quite active in Florida politics for a few years and was in business there; but now lives and operates a consulting business in the Boston area for businesses related to public and media relations. Reichen as far as I know, does not use social media, but Chip does.

And all of that’s from memory.
