Vivacious couple Karen and Bert began dating in 2004 and married since 2013; and together they make a modern family of four with a son and daughter who are their life. Bert is the owner of a moving and delivery company in Edmonton and also a successful musician. As rapper who goes by the name Dirt Gritie, Bert is always quick to come up with a rhyme for any occasion. Karen works as a social worker, which has trained her to get things done under pressure and to deliver when sticky situations arise. In addition to their successful careers, Karen and Bert pride themselves on the community work they do, volunteering for countless non-profits. They both love working with families and youth programs.

The energetic duo are huge fans of THE AMAZING RACE CANADA and always believed they could obliterate any competition if put on the start line. Karen says they have the perfect combination of physical and mental abilities, though she may have to reign in Bert from time to time as he’s a big kid with limitless energy. While Bert and Karen are empathetic people, they are out to crush any team that gets in their way without compromising their integrity

My fave of the first four!! I feel like we don't get much 'real people' teams... Casting as done an amazing job of showing diversity (in ethnicity, LGBT teams, etc.) but I sometime feel like we don't get regular people. I know this  is a physical race and you have to be in good shape to do it, but I still think there are plenty of exemples in this race where the 'fittest' teams don't always do good, and non-physical people are good racers (The Tims, Team body break, Sean and Brent, Brian and Cynthia). I feel the other 3 teams today looks like mactors.. (Even if they all have something unique to brink I'm sure).

Anyway, I liked these 2 from their video and hope they do well :)

Can already tell these two are nothing like I would have expected in the sightings. They looked to be kind of a stiff married couple.

On eTalk tonight they had short segments of each of the first 4 teams. These 2 broke into rap about the race. Oh boy, shades of Becca & Floyd!

Karen Richards, 31, and Bert Richards, 36, a married couple from Edmonton, Alta., tried to get on "Family Feud" — they used the game show theme as their wedding song! — until they found out Canadians weren't eligible. "The Amazing Race Canada" is probably a better fit anyway, with Bert in the delivery business. He'll drive and Karen will give forewarning "three streets before."

KAREN & BERT RICHARDS

Self-described “buppies” from Edmonton, she’s a social worker and he’s a delivery driver whose alter-ego is Dirt Gritie – a hip-hop/spoken-word artist, and part of the collective Politic Live.

“The hip-hop scene in Edmonton is pretty robust and broad and covers a lot of demographics and age groups,” Bert says.

Adds Karen: “It’s very underground and very authentic. It’s not all… ‘Ooh, Drake and all these cool people who are famous.’

They met when, “she jumped on me at Klondike Days,” Bert says.

“I thought I knew him. From behind, I thought he was someone else,” she says with a laugh.

They have a four-year-old and a teenager from Bert’s previous relationship. “We want to be role models for our kids by going out and getting physical,” Karen says. “Watch us on TV, kids, and you’ll see us running around and, hopefully, winning.”

They were also the ones who thanked all the firefighters, which I really liked seeing. (Others may have that we didn't see of course...)

With the non-elimination, they've now lasted the most legs of a "married" team for this version :)

Didn't see them getting this far, but they've had a weird pattern of getting into first and then just never maintaining it to the end of the leg.
