Hunted: Intense UK Reality Competition Series Gets US Version

Soon to join The Amazing Race and Survivor at CBS is the new reality competition series Hunted, as intense to watch as it is for the folks who go on the run to avoid being captured.

Reality shows aren’t usually my thing, unless we’re talking documentaries. But with Hunted, I am hooked, as are more than a million Britons who’ve tuned in to the first three episodes to date on Channel 4 in the UK.

Now CBS has ordered Shine TV’s Hunted for the US, which will be produced for the stateside network by Endemol Shine North America (Big Brother, The Biggest Loser).

Said Glenn Geller, President of CBS Entertainment, “It combines the suspense of a crime drama with the thrill of a competition reality series and some very topical social issues.”

In Hunted the contestants are fugitives trying to escape detection, while expert trackers and investigators manhunt them by any and all means available, from the traditional searches of homes and questioning of family and friends, to state-of-the-art digital technologies — including mobile phones, debit/credit cards, and social media with their built-in tracking mechanisms — that allow the hunters to locate the hunted.

For the contestants, dispensing with life as they know it while being on the run, trying to avoid being captured, is more difficult than they could have imagined. Not just on the physical level, but on the mental and emotional, as well. As in paranoia, panic, loneliness.

And even though there are far fewer CCTV cameras in the US than Britain, the trackers have ways to find the fugitives, because the latter leave physical and/or electronic footprints just about everywhere they go, from practically everything they do.

So what does it take to slip through the cracks and go undetected for a month in a country where surveillance is nearly everywhere, all while still abiding by the law? That is the question posed by Hunted, and it is up to the show’s fugitives to find out.

CBS will announce further details about Hunted in the near future.

I think it's ended. Only 6 episodes, I wanna watch more!

Show content
Steve and Martin didn't have a lot of struggle, which is very good! And looking at their 28-day route, it's even more impressive!

But definitely Emily and Lauren were the most fun to watch! I couldn't help but cheer when they finally reunited! I thought it could have been anticlimactic that they all had only one escape point, since Emily had given away the location. At least, as a viewer, they didn't get all caught  :hearts:

The concept of this is definitely interesting, especially watching how the hunters track and seek information of the fugitives, to the point that it seems stalker-creepy at times!

I wonder what did Ben Owen and all the other Hunters do after that. They MUST have met the successful fugitives, since it's just a "game" and probably a sort of practice for the investigators. Having said that, I do hope all the fugitives are ok. I know they signed up for it, but I really cannot picture myself doing those kinds of stuff. I'd lose my marbles! Paranoia-wise, it feels like this is harder than Survivor, because here you potentially have no friends (so I suspect they've become close to their cameramen  ).

My favourite moments are: Emily going all the way from North I think back to her son iirc within a day all through hitchhiking, and still escaping; Emily exchanging jackets with a homeless person, which just puts a smile on my face; the newlyweds' cheeky postcard; the random capture of the pair that disguised themselves and had those deck of cards (can't remember their names); and some Ricky Allen moments.

Currently watching the first UK season and I think the concept of the show is AMAZING! It's intense as a viewer so the level of paranoia the contestants must have been constantly under is unimaginable.

Did the US version of the show ever take off? I can't seem to put my hand on it.

HUNTED

HUNTED follows nine teams of two in a real-life manhunt as they attempt the nearly impossible task of disappearing in today’s vast digital world as highly skilled investigators combine state-of-the-art tracking methods with traditional tactics to pursue and catch them. From searching their targets’ homes and scouring their internet and cell phone histories, to identifying behavioral patterns, Hunters in the field and Command Center investigators work together to identify clues to potential hiding places and collaborators that can ultimately lead to capture. Will the anxiety of being fugitives on the run cause teams to make a critical error, or will they be able to stay off the grid long enough to avoid being found within 100,000 square miles of the southeastern United States? A grand prize of $250,000 will be awarded to each team that successfully evades being caught for up to 28 days.

Premieres Sunday, Jan. 22, 2017 (10:00-11:00 PM, ET/7:00-8:00 PM, PT – time is approximate after post-game coverage of the AFC Championship game) on the CBS Television Network.  The series moves to Wednesdays on Jan. 25, 2017, with a special two-hour episode, 8:00-10:00 PM, ET/PT. In subsequent weeks, it will air 8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT.

EXECUTIVE PRODUCERS: Laura Fuest Silva, Brian Catalina, Eden Gaha, Rob Smith and Robin Feinberg

PRODUCED BY: Endemol Shine North America

The trailer makes it look very promising. If this turns out to be a success for CBS I definitely think we could see it join the reality hotshots. There is a level of adrenaline and exhilaration this show provides that goes beyond the likes of TAR/Big Brother. Can't wait to tune in!

We are also due eight episodes (which is great considering how the UK one is so tight with only 6 and has way less teams while this has more!)

Episode One is a TWO HOUR premiere (which could also be changed because it would mean 10 PM - 12 AM  :escape) on Sunday while Episodes Two-Three will both air on the following Wednesday, and then its all just Wednesdays from there.

I haven't watched UK version yet but will the teams record themselves? Because if there is cameraman with the teams, there are more chance for them to be caught?

I saw the first 2 seasons and it's a sole cameraman who also hides with them. The cameraman is as part of the game as the fugitives are.

Surely a cameraman. It would be bad quality if the contestants filmed it.

Something I will be very curious about is how they edit the season. Usually the UK version focuses on 3-4 entities per episode (with UK 1 focusing on only 2-3)!

We're for sure not going to meet all the teams in the premiere unless it's 60 minutes of nothing much happening.

Liked the show, but I have a lot of questions.

Is there a time limit between the $100 withdrawals?
How soon can they start planning?  When they're chosen for the show?  Or when they're given the 48-hour notice?
What kind of cameras are the hunters accessing?  Actual police cameras?
Can you purchase burner phones before the start?
Could you cache food and other supplies ahead of time?
Could you not pack a "go" bag before your 48-hr notice?
Can you separate from your partner?  Or do you have to stay within so many feet of each other?
ETA:  Were all the teams running at the same time?  Or were there staggered starts so that only a few teams were running at the same time?

These are just the questions I remember off the top of my head.

I really liked the show but I need to see the rules.  These were posted on the CBS website:

Quote
These are the rules of the hunt:

Fugitives must stay within a 100,000-square mile hunt zone.
Fugitives will be given a one-hour head start before Hunters are alerted.
    Fugitives are provided limited funds.
Command Center is given only a name, photo, and last known location.
Fugitives that evade capture win $250,000 per team./quote]

There were also some additions to the rules from a narrator during the show.

For example:
Quote
During their time on the run each fugitive team can only access money via a bank account containing a total of five hundred dollars, and they can withdraw up to one hundred dollars at a time.

The hundred dollars at a time - Do they have to use different banks?  Could they just stand there and withdraw $100 at a time?  Do they have a time limit between withdrawals?

My answers are per the UK version.

A. No.
B. This is unclear but it is assumed that once they're cast that they're allowed to prepare for obvious reasons.
C. There are state-owned cameras that the Command Center asks for public request. There were also Channel 4-owned subsidiary cameras in the UK.
D. Unclear but considering how many of the fugitives only go for a burner after the run begins, it's leaning to a no.
E. Ditto.
F. Ditto.
G. The UK actually has individual fugitives and two teams have split up after fighting in the 2 seasons that have aired. No clue if they are allowed yet in the US because there are no individual fugitives.
H. The same time. You could see pictures of the other fugitives on the wall during the first episode, the editing is only to provide cohesive storylines to certain number of teams per episode.
I. They are allowed to go to any bank as long as the card is accepted.

Hope I answered them to your liking :)

Good ones Harley!

My question is...do they HAVE to stay on the move? I would just crawl into a hole/tent somewhere and stay there for 28 days. Clearly based on the pencil calendar you can do preplanning, they had a whole agenda. Seems like it would be possible  to prep a snug hole somewhere.

They are allowed to stay in any particular area as long as they want but their own paranoia usually gets the better of them.

I agree with Gamer. I guess you could stay in the wilderness for the whole time, but that would make it a mightly boring show...
