TEAM BIO

Sukhi and Jinder are the ultimate brother-sister team with ambitions to conquer the world. They have worked together on entrepreneurial pursuits at home as well as abroad and saw one of their ventures expand into South Asia. They are fierce, competitive, and very determined.

Sukhi is the demanding older sister who dreams big and never says no to a new challenge, while Jinder is the brains behind the operation and follows through on his sister’s tremendous visions. From a young age, they have been inseparable because, for Sukhi, bringing her brother along meant their parents would let her do anything. This successful duo strives to maintain a typical sibling relationship with sarcasm, rivalry, and competition. Jinder claims he will be completing challenges while his sister sits on the sidelines, which she of course vehemently denies.

Both agree that they need to relax in order to compete well on the race. “We need to comprehend the clues instead of running around like crazy people,” said Sukhi. “Moving way too fast…or doing something without slowing things down and actually thinking about it first will be our biggest challenge,” adds Jinder.

They are inspired by their father’s immigration from India to Terrace, B.C. with no money and no English vocabulary. He simply wanted to build a life of opportunity for his future children. Winning 'The Amazing Race Canada' would further Sukhi and Jinder’s beliefs that they can achieve anything.

Motto: “We will do whatever it takes! We are here to win! We got this!”

Sukhi and Jinder say they'll do anything to win 'The Amazing Race Canada'

Ambitious sister and brother team Sukhi and Jinder Atwal have done everything together from travelling at a young age to starting a company that achieved international success before the age of 30, and now have their sights set on winning “The Amazing Race Canada.”

The young entrepreneurs from Terrace, B.C., say they’ll do anything they need to win, including U-turning another team, even if it means making enemies along the way.

“We don’t wish any team any bad or anything, everyone seems great, but we are competitive. Not at the expense of (other teams), but we’re just going to bring our game, zoned in,” says big sister Sukhi, 32.

“We know what we can do so we’re just going to be competing -- against ourselves even,” adds Jinder, 26.

“We’re not thinking about anything else and not thinking about anybody else.”

Sukhi and Jinder say much of their drive comes from the example set by their parents as their dad immigrated to Canada from India with only $5 in his pocket, and has passed his work ethic onto them.

“The fact that my dad just got on a plane and came to a different country, didn’t speak the language, and sacrificed his whole life, we’re just so blessed to be able to take risks.”

Their strict upbringing also contributes to their close relationship.

“I was the girl who was never allowed to go to parties or anything. But I found out if I took my little brother with me I could go everywhere. So I could go travel, even when he was younger,” says Sukhi.

“So I was 12 years old, partying, going places I shouldn’t have been,” says Jinder with a laugh.

“I could bring him everywhere! I’d go travelling, and we became best friends! Like he’d do everything for me, like as a kid!” says Sukhi.

But just because they’re close siblings who work together professionally doesn’t mean they don’t have their disagreements.

“We get along; obviously we’re siblings so we always have our ups and downs as siblings, right? But we do get along, like a deep caring,” says Sukhi.

So is Sukhi planning on being in charge as the big sister on the “Race?”

“No, I don’t think I’ll be. I might be bossy at times . . . But he’ll be like that as well. We’re more like really good friends and I respect him and his opinions,” says Sukhi.

“I mean, every now and then she does kind of treat me like I’m her son, but when it comes to the Race, I think it’ll be more friendship, kind of like we’re best friends getting things done, not like I’m a little brother,” says Jinder.

Either way, this brother and sister team has something to prove.

“We want to show Canada and the world that we’re the ultimate brother-sister duo,” says Sukhi.

“It’s like Donny and Marie, step aside! We are here!” says Jinder.

Sibling Team from Terrace to Compete in Amazing Race Canada

The upcoming season of Amazing Race Canada is going to feature two faces from Terrace.

Sukhi and Jinder Atwal are competing as a brother-sister team in the reality show that sends contestants all over the world.

The Atwals, who are both seasoned travelers, say they spent time before the competition began extensively training in Terrace to get ready.

“We were at North Coast, we were at Amber's bootcamp, we were running the Terrace mountain,” said Sukhi. “So we used Terrace as our training grounds, to prepare.”

The duo say they've been overwhelmed with all the Terrace-based support, and that they can't wait to represent the Northwest on a national television show.

“We're just very thankful for the support that’s coming from Terrace,” said Sukhi . “That’s one of the cool things about growing up in a small town, is that it's always home. That's where our parents are, that's where our brother is, and we grew up in that community. So it means a lot that everyone is rooting for us.”

Jinder adds that they’ve been excited to share the news with the community, which was announced this morning.

“We've been keeping the secret in for so long now, and it’s just nice to finally get it out,” said Jinder. “And we just want to make everyone back at home super proud. It feels awesome.”

The Atwals are both currently in Toronto, but say they hope to come home to Terrace at some point while the show is airing.

If they win, the two will claim a $250,000 prize, receive gas for life from Petro Canada, free flights for a year from Air Canada, and two Chevy trucks.

The season premiere will be on July 8th on CTV.

Terrace duo in Amazing Race
The Amazing Race Canada kicked off July 8 with Sukhi and Jinder Atwal representing Terrace.

Over 50 friends and family members of the brother-sister team showed up at Mumford's Beerhouse & Grill to cheer them on.

“We're not giving anything away, but we are putting Terrace on the map!” 32-year-old Sukhi told her guests after the premiere.

Sukhi and Jinder are both temporarily living in Toronto, but they wanted to surprise their family and host the viewing party in their hometown. Since their arrival a few days ago, they've received a lot of attention.

“It's crazy, people are pulling me over on the side of the road and they want to take selfies, and I was like 'oh my gosh!' because these are people I don't even know, they just recognize us,” Jinder said adding that Sukhi had some paparazzi moments in the gym as well.

The Terrace duo admitted they were feeling nervous about watching the show for the first time.

“It feels pretty surreal actually to be surrounded by all of our friends and family.” 26-year-old Jinder said, “I'm just nervous because I have no idea how they're going to cut the show – so we're just excited to see the show and have everyone here.”

The team had nothing to be concerned about because they've made it through to the second round.

They can't divulge much information, however the Atwals explained that their strategy in the games was to simply slow down, pay attention and to learn from their mistakes.

“But nothing can really prepare you, it's high adrenaline, high stress, high pressure, it's like the Hunger Games and these people are hungry. You can't even take a second to breathe,” Sukhi said.

The two started to train in Terrace once they found out they were accepted onto the show. They would run the Terrace Mountain and go to local bootcamps, the two also took swimming lessons from Blueback Swim Club's coach, Crystal Thomas.

“The very first time we got to the pool, Sukhi was wearing a little, tiny bikini and I looked at her and I told her, 'I don't know if you can swim in that because when you jump in things will fall off,' but, she was amazing,” Thomas said, “what she was training for was not how to swim beautifully, but she was swimming to get the job done.”

Thomas explained that Sukhi had had a near-drowning experience in her life and she was a little afraid of the water, but she was willing to do anything and after only two training sessions she was jumping off the diving board.

This is the second season of CTV's Amazing Race Canada. Twelve teams will compete in a variety of challenges all across Canada and beyond for a variety of prizes.

“Thank you [Terrace] for the love and the support, we're so proud to be from a small town and we're happy to represent and we're going to make Terrace proud!” Sukhi said. The show airs Tuesday nights at 9 p.m. on CTV and Mumford's pub will be screening the show each week.

Sukhi & Jinder - Ready Set Go!
The Atwal siblings, Sukhi and Jinder, are inseparable. Together, they have travelled the world, started their own successful business enterprise and done humanitarian work in Mexico. Now this brother-sister duo from Terrace, BC has teamed up to compete on the second season of ‘The Amazing Race Canada.’
‘The Amazing Race Canada’ is a reality television series in which eleven teams of two must trek across Canada. At each destination, the teams face mental and physical challenges in order to discover their next location. The first team to reach the final destination wins the grand prize. This year, the winning team will get a $250,000 cash payout, two Chevrolet Silverado Pickup trucks, “gas for life” from Petro Canada and the opportunity to fly free for a year anywhere Air Canada flies.
“We first thought about participating in the Amazing Race years ago, when we saw the American show,” Sukhi shares. “So when we found out the show was coming to Canadian television, we knew we had to apply.”
They sent in the first take of their audition video, just hours before the deadline – and the producers loved it. After a quick meeting with the producers, Sukhi and Jinder were thrilled to be chosen as participants.
“In the Amazing Race, you never know what you have to do, where you will start, where you will end up. It really is the ultimate adventure-seekers heaven!” says Sukhi. “You need to be adventurous and not scared of the unknown. Both Jinder and I are spontaneous and love going with the flow. We don’t get [easily] stressed out and are up to do anything.”
For the past couple of weeks, the siblings have been preparing themselves for whatever challenges the Race might bring. This included watching hours of previous seasons of the show, working out 5 – 7 days a week and taking ice baths every night to speed up their recovery times. “We’ve never felt stronger, or more fit than we do now, in our entire lives,” says Sukhi.
Good thing too – as the Atwal siblings are up against some serious competition this season in the Race. One of the competing teams is comprised of the Olympic gold medalists for Women’s Hockey, Natalie Spooner and Meaghan Mikkelson.
However, this determined brother-sister team remain unfazed and are confident in their chances of winning. As young entrepreneurs who oversee ventures around the world, they have learnt to successfully deal with a number of stressful situations. “Being siblings is also a major advantage,” adds Jinder. “At the end of the day, even if we get into the most heated argument, we’ll get over it.”
Despite their 7 year age difference, Sukhi and Jinder have always shared a strong bond. Growing up, Sukhi was often not allowed to go out unless she brought her younger brother with her and those early years together laid the groundwork for a strong friendship. “At the end of the day, we’re both such big dreamers and have so much fun together as we go after these big goals,” shares Jinder. “It’s been really great having a strong support [system].”
“Both of us would not race with any other person,” adds Sukhi. “We have been best friends for as long as we can remember.”
The ambitious duo has already planned what they will do if they win the Race. One of their prize trucks will go to their father, as a thank-you for everything he’s done. They have also decided that they will invest the cash prize and start a new venture. “We [also want] to build and grow a non-profit organization called ‘One Dollar Projects,” says Sukhi. Inspired by their humanitarian trips to Haiti and Mexico over the years, their One
Dollar Projects will have each member donating a dollar a month to fund money for various world causes.
“Winning the Amazing race [is] one of ourdreams. We know it is going to take a lot of teamwork and dedication. We want to put our skills to the test and do whatever it takes to bring the title home,” says Sukhi.
The Amazing Race Canada airs Tuesdays at 9 pm on CTV. To follow Sukhi and Jinder on their adventures, visit their website at

She's very nonchalant in responding to the haters, I like that.

The edit has a lot to do with how viewers see a team, but have you noticed they stopped getting the "goofy edit" a few legs ago? They found their stride at the right time.

B.C. duo Sukhi and Jinder Atwal savour another win in Amazing Race Canada

TORONTO — Whirlwind sibling duo Sukhi and Jinder Atwal held off the mussel-flexing Golden Girls Meaghan Mikkelson and Natalie Spooner in Charlottetown, and finally “The Amazing Race Canada” looks like it has more than one credible contender.

The Atwals won their the second straight leg in Tuesday’s instalment with a cutthroat performance that was either gritty or gutless, depending on whom you asked — and the hockey players certainly fell into the latter camp, sniping bitterly with the Atwals at the Pit Stop.

“They’re angry at us but we feel good,” grinned Jinder.

“We feel great,” corrected sister Sukhi. “And I’m even more inspired to kick their butt.”

Speaking of bickering, entertainingly quarrelsome Montreal couple Alain Chanoine and Audrey Tousignant-Maurice were eliminated despite not struggling to a much greater degree than the rest of the teams — the competition was simply that flat.

That new parity only generated more tension, beginning at the airport when everyone realized that Vancouver bartender buddies Ryan Steele and Rob Goddard had been granted yet another reprieve in last week’s leg, which turned out to be a non-elimination round.

“Dude, go home!” shouted Jinder in a jovial tone as a greeting.

At the sight of the brawny pair, their competitors worked with admirable diligence to smile — except Meaghan, whose teeth-grinding irritation was visibly evident.

“Lucky for them,” she seethed. “They had a horseshoe — somewhere.”

“There’s gotta be a little part of them that’s annoyed,” surmised Ryan of the rest of the field. “I would be!”

Well, they didn’t have much time to process the duo’s surprise survival. Awaiting was a harness-racing challenge that ultimately proved inconsequential — though Pete Schmalz calling best pal Mickey Henry a “beautiful blond stallion” was a highlight — and then a more substantial Road Block testing racers’ knowledge of Canadian history.

One member from each team was to tour the Province House National Historic Site and speak to costumed extras to receive the name and one distinguishing feature of each of the 10 delegates who attended 1864’s Charlottetown Conference.

Racers would then have to take that knowledge and correctly identify the period-dressed actors inside the building from memory.

This is where the Atwals established the lead that would — barely — carry them through to a first-place finish.

Initially flustered after several failed attempts, Sukhi gathered herself outside and located a new gear of competition. Jinder seemed to instantly recognize Super Sukhi emerging.

“When Sukh needs to get something done she just channels everything in and completely focuses,” he said of his sister, a former pageant queen.

“She just cuts everything out around her. She has all these weird ways to memorize things.”

Indeed, viewers were then treated to an inside look at the inner machinations of Sukhi’s unique mnemonic device.

She remembered Col. John Hamilton Gray by telling herself: “He has a cane because he’s old and GREY. Boom.”

She concretized her memory of Toronto Globe founder George Brown, meanwhile, by thinking of her cousin, who’s named George.

“I’m brown. He’s brown. We’re brown. George Brown.”

Finally, there was Robert B. Dickey...

“I imagined he had a big —”

The show tastefully cut away here — unfortunately applying no such restraint to a manure-excavating Speed Bump completed by the bartenders, by the way — but, odd as it was, Sukhi’s system worked and the siblings raced off to the Detour.

By contrast, Meaghan and Natalie were the last to leave after eight attempts, and after such routine early dominance — including wins in six of the first eight legs — they seemed rattled.

“This is the first time we’ve been in last place,” said Meaghan. “This is my worst nightmare coming true. This could be it for us.”

She was pessimistic even after moving on from the challenge.

“Don’t stress,” Natalie offered helpfully.

“Well I kind of am stressed because I just did a Road Block that put us in last place,” Meaghan snapped back.

Champions that they are, the hyper-competent teammates channelled their frustration into a truly dominant performance at their next stop.

No one bothered with a potato-weighing option that was offered, so only one Detour possibility was relevant this week: the systematic stripping of 800 kilograms of scummy mussels.

As unpleasant as it sounds on paper, the challenge was still more taxing in practice. After a few minutes toiling, Jinder lamented the task as “impossible” and Meaghan declared: “This is the worst smell I’ve ever smelled in my life.”

To combat the filthy and frustrating nature of the project, all the teams seemed to engage in some fortitude-building trash talk. But Meaghan and Natalie, fire-eyed and efficient, ascended to another level of competitive drive — frankly freaking out some of the other teams in the process.

“They’re doing this faster than anyone, it’s incredible,” said Jinder.

“Like seriously, these women are machines,” Sukhi marvelled. “They tap into some kind of inner animal.”

Impressed though she may have been, Sukhi apparently wasn’t daunted.

The two teams moved on around the same time and so began a tightly contested road race to the Pit Stop at the Farmers’ Bank of Rustico. Sukhi and Jinder stopped briefly to ask for directions while the hockey players looked on — and in a goofy bit of misdirection, the Atwals mimed as if their navigator was actually indicating the opposite path to the goal.

The hockey players weren’t fooled, but they were fuming — especially when the fleet-of-foot Atwals managed to reach host Jon Montgomery mere seconds before them (winning a trip anywhere in Canada and $5,000).

“They tried to point us in the wrong direction on the road and I just think that there’s a right way to win and a wrong way to win,” Meaghan complained.

“You’re just mad because you’re in second,” Jinder shot back.

“If you guys want to play the game that way, that’s fine,” replied Meaghan.

As the race heated to a boil, it lost the lovably hot-headed Alain and Audrey, whose frantic bickering rarely seemed less than charming.

Given that Alain proposed during a romantic “Amazing Race” sojourn to Paris — and of course she said yes — the pair had a silver-lined horizon for consolation.

“We’re going to go home and I’m going to marry this beautiful girl,” Alain smiled.

“We didn’t win the grand prize but we got our own grand prize,” Audrey said. “We’re engaged now. We’re going to start our life together and that’s absolutely wonderful.”

Ruth Myles: Sukhi and Jinder talk about being clueless on The Amazing Race Canada

Question: Why did you think you would be strong contenders on The Amazing Race Canada?

Jinder: We have done everything together, since I was 11 years old. We just know everything about each other. We started business together. We even did the same degrees. We thought that together, we would be this powerful team. There are so many things we’ve done in life that we thought we were prepared for this.

Sukhi: And we have fun together. We enjoy being together. Regardless of the outcome, we have fun together. Honestly, there’s no one else I would do this with. He’s just as crazy, just as intense. I wanted it bad, and I knew he’d want it bad, too.

Jinder: And we’re siblings, we’ll get over it right away.

Q: What were your individual strengths on the Race as it unfolded?

Sukhi: With Jinder, he had great leadership on our team.  He was calm and collected, even though it might not have looked like that. He was a strong teammate to have. You knew you’d get through whatever with him as your partner.

Jinder: With Sukh, there are so many things that make her such a great partner. She will eat anything. She will jump off anything. If there is anything that needs to be done, she will get it done. . . I was never scared that we were going to lose anything just because I knew she could do anything. I have seen her do so many things.

Q: So what happened in New Brunswick?

Jinder: That was kind of a rough day. We started off in first, and we planned on getting into the final three. Right off the bat, in the first couple of minutes, we got a penalty. . . . We’ve been living in Southeast Asia. We kind of forgot how to drive in Canada.

Q: When you did that Sukhi, did you realize right away and were ‘Oh, crap,’ or was it, ‘Meh’?

Sukhi: It was four in the morning; there’s not a single soul walking around. I honestly thought it was for the pedestrian, it was kind of on the side.  . I was pretty upset because other cars were passing us. It was ‘Oh my gosh,’ because you know at that point you can’t make any mistakes. But we shook it off. Event after event, we kept shaking it off.

Jinder: We were literally parked at that intersection the one that we crossed and other teams going the rough hitting the green. We were just, ‘Ahhh, this is horrible!’ That is the last thing you want to do: sit on the side of the street during the semifinal day and watch people go by you.

Q: How did you refocus?

Sukhi: We were just we got this, we can do it, don’t worry anything can happen. Let’s try to bring our energy up. We always tried to keep good energy, regardless of what happened because you go through the lowest lows and the highest highs, sometimes all in an hour. We had to shake it off, even thought it was a high-stress day. We kind of laughed it off and got back to Sukhi and Jinder mode, rather than super-stressed human being (mode).

Q: So what happened to the clue that you lost on the beach at Hopewell Rocks?

Jinder: Honestly, I have no idea where that clue went. I had it in my hand. It’s a mystery to this day. I tried to figure it out watching the show, but there was a certain point where it just disappeared. What do you think happened, Sukh?

Sukhi: We don’t know. We had it when we got there. Maybe someone accidentally picked it up. Or if it was really gone, maybe it blew away or maybe it got mixed in the mud. Who knows? We still don’t know. We don’t have a clue where the clue is.

Jinder: That was hard. Immediately we knew that memorizing the flag was a problem. But we were standing there without a clue for about 30 minutes before Meaghan let us read her clue. That first 30 minute was rough because people were getting further and further, doing their first attempt, their second attempt, and we had no idea where to even start.

Q: If Meaghan and Natalie had lost their clue, would you have shared yours with them?

Sukhi: Who knows, right? I hope to say yes, but you never know what would happen in that situation. Originally, they said they’d wait ‘til they were done (to share the clue), but then when I asked them again, they gave it to us. That was really commendable and really sweet. But I don’t know.

Jinder: Regardless of what happened at the mat the day before, we had developed such a strong friendship with them throughout the Race. It just shows her character. She is such an amazing person. I don’t know. It’s down to the final four. We definitely would have given it, but probably would have been the same situation: we would let them try to figure it out for a while and then done it. I don’t know; it’s a tough question

Q: Because you pulled the U-Turn.

Sukhi: Yes, we pulled the U-Turn. Minutes before we had heard Ryan and Rob and Alain and Audrey, they were in the same train from Normandy to Paris, we overheard them saying that they were going to U-Turn us. And Ryan admitted it. It was basically a run to the (U-Turn) mat, not because we hated each other but we were the last team.

Jinder: It’s a part of the game. We tried to play a fierce and clean game. There was that one instance, where we didn’t point the Olympians in the wrong direction; we were trying to get that guy to not point in the right direction. (laughs) And it didn’t even work because we suck at lying.

Sukhi: We were a bunch of clowns . . . we just did it. I am glad they went the right way.

Q: How do you feel about how you were portrayed on the show?

Jinder: There are people that love us; there are people that hate us. We are just getting talked about from every angle.

Sukhi: We are pretty bad villains!

Jinder: There are fights between them online . . .  We are happy. We feel so blessed to be on the show. And at the end of the day, we signed up for it, so we can’t be upset.

Q: When you watch the show, do you think you could have done or said things differently?

Sukhi: Honestly, we don’t really regret anything. We know what happened on the whole Race. We know what was going on. I am glad the Olympians didn’t turn the other way. I would have probably felt bad, but you’re in a Race and nothing is personal. You’re just going for it and doing your best. It’s high-stress days, but I don’t regret anything.

Q: What are your high points from the Race?

Sukhi: Honestly, that your sole mission in life was running around the world looking for clue boxes. It was just, ‘Is this really happening?’ and you think the whole world is your set.

Jinder: The entire Race was a high. It’s incredible how alive you feel once you’re on the Race. You want that continue on into your regular life. It’s amazing, from jumping off things to just the crazy things that make you go out of your comfort zone the entire time. You were growing (as a person) the entire time. You never knew what was going to happen, what was going to be thrown at you. That was the high.

Q: How was it dealing with all that stress for an extended period of time?

Sukhi: We were running (the Race) for 35 days. We didn’t’ sleep properly, we were hungry. We went through every single emotion, but the adrenaline kept up. It was such a high level of adrenaline for so long. It’s like nothing I’ve ever experienced.

Jinder: It is crazy what adrenalin can do. Your body can deal with so much stress, physical, emotional, everything that gets thrown your way. When you have that much adrenalin in your body, you’re like a machine. Obviously, you still have to keep your composure, because you can end up freaking out, but you feel like a superhuman when you’re doing these things. Realistically you should be crashing, you should be exhausted, you should be totally beat down, but until you get to Jon at the pit stop, your brain is on, your body is on.

Q: What advice would you give competitors for coming seasons of The Amazing Race Canada?

Sukhi: Just have fun. Have a blast with it.

Jinder: Read your clue.

Sukhi: Don’t lose your clue.

Jinder: Read your clue; don’t lose your clue.

Sukhi: And no getting naked with your sibling.

Q: How did you guys explain that one?

Sukhi: We didn’t.

Jinder: We actually flew out that day (the episode with the nude posing aired). We were with our family with the episode leading up to that day. Then we were like, ‘Alright guys, we’re heading out for a couple of weeks.’ So we took off, then after we were, ‘So, did you enjoy it? Alright, bye!’

The Amazing Race Canada: Five questions with Sukhi and Jinder

Brother-sister duo Sukhi and Jinder Atwal ended their journey on The Amazing Race Canada last night, just barely missing the finals set for this Sunday on CTV.

The siblings started the leg in first place after their win in Prince Edward Island, but it was their struggle at the Roadblock at New Brunswick's Cape Enrage Lighthouse that brought their Race dreams to an end.

We snagged a few web-exclusive questions with the pair when they stopped by The Social headquarters, where they dished on things they learned about each other on their journey and what's next on their bucket list. We even got them to belt out a couple of lines from their Race theme song.

Q. The audience really got a strong sense of your brother-sister bond throughout the Race. Is there anything new that you learned about one another through this experience?

Jinder Atwal: For me, it just reaffirmed the strength that my sister has, just watching her do the tasks. She's just on – when she decides she's going to do something, there's no denying that she's going to get it done and it's going to get done fast.

Sukhi Atwal: I realized that he wasn't my little brother anymore. He led our team and was the strength that I needed. I was in such awe that I cried at every single mat because I was so proud of him. He worked so hard and was so determined that, as a sister, I was like, 'You are such a cool man, not just my little Jinder.'

JA: You mean, not your little slave anymore.

Q.  You weren't allowed to bring a lot of personal items (i.e. cellphone, music devices, books, etc.) with you during the competition. If you could have brought any item with you on your journey, what would it have been?

SA: Either a GPS or a third person.

JA: I would have brought less stuff.  At the end, you just don't want half the stuff that's on your back – it actually gets pretty heavy.

SA: And we were pretty light – about 12 to 14 pounds for 36 days.

JA: Something that would've helped us is definitely a GPS – especially when we were in France, but I mean, that takes the fun out of half the race.

Q. Jinder, following the elimination, you said, “Now that we’ve done this race, I don’t want our lives to be any less extraordinary.”  What is next for the both you.

JA: I used to be a travel show host in Southeast Asia and since being on the Race, I think I'd like to pursue something in television.  And even with the special bond that (Sukhi and I) have, I've realized that we're able to do business together, so why not something in TV?

Q. I think we can agree that the model challenge where you had to pose nude together was the most uncomfortable.  What challenge(s) did you enjoy the most?

JA: It seemed like I freaked out, but I loved jumping off the Macau tower. That was unreal. Have you ever bungie jumped?

Me (in my most decisive voice): No.

JA: It's just unbelievable, the (most intense) rush you've ever felt in your life. My helmut fell off at one point – I think that's why I was freaking out, but it wouldn't have saved me at that point anyway. I remember feeling so alive at the end.

SA: I loved shooting that gun, that was a lot of fun. We also loved our time with those dogs – they were so sweet, all they wanted to do was run around. I think everyone also had fun at the hockey challenge because people forgot about the competition for a little bit and just enjoyed that time.

Instagram Q: If you could choose a theme song for this whole journey, what would it be? (Watch the video below for their response)

The video is on the link, pretty original

‘AMAZING RACE CANADA’ TEAM SUKHI AND JINDER RESPOND TO THEIR 'HATERS'

Despite doing anything they had to in order to win – including U-turning another team and posing nude – brother and sister team Sukhi and Jinder Atwal were eliminated right before the final leg on “Amazing Race Canada.”

“We were just so close. I mean it hurt because our goal was to get to the Top 3 and so was everyone else’s. It was painful at first but we had a little chat and we said we did our best and we’re really proud,” says Sukhi.

The young entrepreneurs from Terrace, B.C., started the leg in Charlottetown in first place but things soon went awry on the drive to New Brunswick when they ran a red light and got a 15-minute penalty.

The bad luck continued from there with the team getting lost and then losing their clue at the signal flags Detour.

“We were just trying to play catch up and then we lost our clue and so mentally, I don’t think we were working the best together,” says Sukhi.

“There was a whole bunch of stuff that happened that day that was kind of out of our grasp. Even when we were in last, we pushed as hard as we could to try and get into the Top 3. We never gave up,” says Jinder.

After losing their clue, they asked the three remaining teams if they could look at theirs but Mickey and Pete and Ryan and Rob (whom they’d U-turned on a previous leg), both said no.

“It’s Top 3. I don’t blame them. I wasn’t expecting anyone to help, honestly,” says Sukhi.

But Natalie and Meaghan, whom Sukhi and Jinder tried to lead astray on the previous leg with incorrect directions, did end up helping them.

“I know in the last leg it looked like we were arch enemies but we actually were bonded with them quite a bit . . . eventually she said yes. (I had) mad respect,” says Sukhi.

Sukhi adds she and Jinder helped a lot of other teams along the way – even if those moments weren’t shown on TV.

“We actually helped a lot of teams and we were like, ‘We’re being way too nice. We need to stop and we need to get angry and tap into this inner beast mode kind of thing’ but we feel proud of how we ran the ‘Race,’” says Sukhi.

They may be proud but not all of their fans agree, according to Sukhi.

“There are lots of haters online (who said), ‘Oh my gosh you guys are dirty players and all you ever did was ask for help,’” she says.

“What people don’t understand is yeah we might’ve asked for help that episode in Macau but no one actually helped us,” adds Jinder.

“So everyone thinks Sukhi and Jinder can’t do anything without asking for help and it’s like no one actually helped us, so we’re here by not getting any help . . . you can’t take (these comments) too seriously. We’ve ignored it. There’s so much love out there, too.”

The team says running the ‘Race’ together was a great experience but they have blocked out one challenge – posing nude for a Fast Forward challenge that allowed them to go directly to the Pit Stop.

“I haven’t mentally thought that he was naked, I couldn’t picture that in my mind, or that I was naked or that I was standing behind him completely naked,” says Sukhi.

“Your mind is pumping with adrenaline. You’re like, ‘OK, whatever, let’s just take off our clothes.”

That may not have been their fondest moment, but the brother and sister team say running the “Race” together was an experience like none other.

“I gained a lot of respect for Jinder. He led this team and he carried us through a lot of stuff. We worked well together.”

“I’m so proud of Sukhi,” adds Jinder. “I think we bonded at a different level on this ‘Race.’ We’ve done so many things together already, started a business together, have the same degrees, this just took our relationship to the next level.”

Interesting, to note Jinder says they waited at the flags doing absolutely nothing for 25-30 mins. They had asked hockey once they said no, then as they were finishing said yes to them.

Terrace-Born Siblings Cut From Amazing Race Canada

Sukhi and Jinder Atwal were cut from last night's episode of Amazing Race Canada.

The Terrace born siblings had made it to the final four teams when they came in last during a challenge in New Brunswick.

The Atwals said although the loss was initially disappointing, they've been proud to represent Terrace on a national television show.

“Everyone's just been so nice. Friends, family, the whole city of Terrace,” said Sukhi.

They say there’s been an outpouring of messages from supporters since last night episode aired.

“Everyone has been like 'you've made Terrace so proud. You guys were determined and focused’,” said Sukhi.

“We’re getting hundreds of messages. We flew into Toronto to do the after shows and everything, and last night our phone was buzzing right into 3 AM. It would just not stop,” said Jinder.

The Atwals hosted a viewing party in Terrace back in July when the season premiered.

The pair says they’re now planning a trip to Milan—but hope to visit Terrace for Christmas.

TARC: The Eighth Elimination

“It was easier until we had to get naked together,” said Jinder of being partners with his older sister Sukhi on “The Amazing Race Canada”. Despite the awkward moment the siblings, from Terrace, BC, made a strong pair for the duration of their run. Coming in fourth place is nothing to scoff at when you consider all the challenges competitors face.

The pair were fortunate enough to not only travel the world in the race, but also won trips to Milan and a location of their choosing in Canada, as well as cash prizes. Of all the places they visited a return to the Yukon is number one on their list. Dog sledding and canoeing up river are just a few of the activities that won them over. The pair were especially affected by their stop in Normandy, France, “it’s such a special place in history,” said Sukhi.

As the season finale approaches and the three final teams near the finish line Sukhi and Jinder revealed who they’ll be cheering on. “The Olympians gave us their clue – so were rooting for them!” they announced.

Tune in at Sunday at 8pm ET on CTV for a special two hour event and cheer on your favourite team.

Terracite wins Mister World Canada title

  posted May 27, 2015 at 10:00 AM

By Cecile Favron

Harjinder Atwal, the contestant from Terrace on The Amazing Race Canada, won the coveted title of Mister World Canada 2015 on May 16 – which is also his birthday.

“What an incredible [birthday] gift,” Atwal posted on his Facebook page shortly after his win.

The Canadian TV star will now go on to represent Canada at the Mister World competition held in Italy this year.

Atwal, with his sister Sukhi, was a contestant on the second season of the Amazing Race Canada in 2014.

Their team was eliminated the day before the finale.

The Mister World Canada prize is an all-expenses paid trip to the finals in Italy, a cash prize of 4,700 dollars, and the position as an ambassador for the Miss World Canada humanitarian organization.

Atwal said that he chose to compete for the title in order to get noticed by the Indian film industry. “The main reason I did this was to get into the Bollywood industry,” Atwal admitted.

“Within a couple of days of winning, people in the industry here and in India started reaching out to me.”

Atwal’s father immigrated from India to Terrace without any prior knowledge of English and Atwal, 27, cites his father’s journey as his inspiration.

Mister World Canada is coined as “a search for Canada’s Most Desirable Man” according to the organization’s website.

It is a beauty pageant, but with a male twist that puts the contestants through a variety of tests. Atwal has survived all eliminations since he was first accepted into the competition one year ago.

There are five televised competitions held over the week-long event: a sports competition, a Best Talent award, a Style and Fashion award, a Social Media Genius competition, and a People’s Choice award.

Atwal won the People’s Choice award and credits his support in Terrace for his win.

“I wouldn’t have won if it wasn’t for Terrace, the whole community campaigned for me,” explained Atwal.

Even though he won the People’s Choice award, Atwal said he did not expect to win the big prize because he did not win any other challenges.

“You don’t know how well you are doing all week, the judges don’t tell you,” Atwal said.

The final gala and the talent competition provided Atwal with a large audience to get him noticed. He sang Frank Sinatra’s “Come Fly With Me” to an audience of thousands for the talent competition and remembers being swarmed by “fifty or sixty people taking pictures of me” after his big win.

The competition itself required Atwal, who says he was not involved in singing or dancing prior to the competition, to work hard. They had to be at the rehearsal space practicing their choreography every day at 6 a.m. for the finale with the Miss World Canada contestants.

The competition took place over May 11-16th. It was televised last weekend and can be streamed online.

Atwal was born and raised in Terrace.

He went to Veritas, Skeena, and Caledonia for school and worked at the local Safeway before he moved away when he was 18.

He first competed a Bachelors of Science in Cellular Molecular Genetics from the University of the Fraser Valley before he moved to South-East Asia to start a business.

The avid traveller sold his business and moved home to start a career in show business when he was inspired by India’s cinemas.

“India is such a poor country, but the Bollywood industry gives the people so much hope for a better life,” Atwal explained of the accessibility of the cinema for India’s poor.

Now the Canadian is determined to make it big and is not afraid to put himself out there to do it.

“What I have learned is that you might as well dream big because it will probably come true,” he said.
