Previously on The Amazing Race...

8 teams raced from Kuala Lumpur to Colombo, Sri Lanka. At the airport, Brenchel and Margie & Luke took a risk. Brenchel's risk paid off, while Margie and Luke's didn't. In Colombo, Jessica & John couldn't get a bite at the detour while Brenchel lost their balance. At the roadblock. Connor sewed up 1st place.

Meanwhile, Margie & Luke never recovered and were eliminated from the race.

7 teams remain. Who will be eliminated next?

Recap of Leg 5... idiotically shortened intro... :res:
[Commercial]

Sri Lanka is an island nation in the coast of the Indian Ocean, we're in Colombo. Dave & Connor leave at 2:59 A.M. to the Dutch Museum and Caroline & Jennifer, Cowboys, and A$$ghanimals follow, without showing them ripping open their first clues. :tantrum
Title: Re: TAR 24 East Coast EP 6 SHOW updates and commentary **Expect a delay**
Post by: Polaroid on March 30, 2014, 07:26:24 PM
Dave & Connor won the last leg of the race and will depart 1st at 2:59 AM. Route info: Proceed to the Dutch Museum. Search the hall of headstones for your next clue. Dave thinks Connor is the most capable person this race.

Caroline & Jennifer depart 2nd at 3:27 AM. Not shown leaving the start mat.

Jet & Cord depart 3rd at 3:35 AM. Not shown leaving the start mat too. They say that they're competitive.

Leo & Jamal depart at 3:50 AM. They say they have to beat the Cowboys and Dave & Connor.

Dave & Connor reach the museum and find out it doesn't open until 8:30 AM. All teams are at the museum. Brenchel don't think that they've reached their potential.

For non-religious viewers of The Amazing Race, they need to know the teams before the episode actually begins. TAR11 showed the all-star teams in the into every episode.

Mad running once the museum opens. Make your way by train to the city of Alawwa, and go to Ceypetco Fuel Station.

Teams are running to the train station. The train departs at 8:55 AM so everyone's going to be on the same train, lol. Its a 1.5 hour train ride to Alawwa. The scenery is beautiful.

Teams start jumping off the train to the fuel station. Brenchel are the 1st to get the clue. Roadblock: Who wants to fill 'er up?
Roadblock: Teams will have to enter the gas station and pick a coloured badge. They must find 4 tuk-tuks with the same colour marker. Then they will need to lead them to the gas station to fill them up. Once they have filled up the 4 tuk-tuks, they will receive their next clue.

Rachel picks green. All other teams are arriving.

Dave worked at a gas station when he was 16. Teams pick the colours. It's chaotic.

Post by: RachelLeVega on March 30, 2014, 07:32:25 PM
Gosh, the same, annoying Rachel R. has returned. :'(

Also, to make things very difficult, why didn't teams have to find a tuk-tuk with a specific LICENSE PLATE?
Title: Re: TAR 24 East Coast EP 6 SHOW updates and commentary **Expect a delay**
Post by: Polaroid on March 30, 2014, 07:35:13 PM
Rachel has green so she's getting green cars to come... However, she doesn't realize that there are coloured markers. Rachel fills up a red marker car. Rachel is at the gas pump and she's yelling.

Jamal: 1/4

Dave is getting his tuk-tuks to line up.

Rachel is still filling up gas in the wrong tuk-tuks...

Jamal sprayed gasoline everywhere, lol. He has 2/4.

THIS IS CHAOS. People are yelling and standing in front of tuk-tuks and it's crazy. Rachel yells green but Big Easy takes the gas pump. Dave is yelling for his tuk-tuks to come. Dave is standing in front of tuk-tuks and blocking other teams. :funny:

This is so hard to follow. :funny:

Cord is being very calm and getting his tuk-tuks to go around everyone.

Big Easy: 2/4
Caroline: 1/4

Dave says he's next but John says he has his tuk-tuk right there. They argue for a bit but John gets it. Dave says that it's his turn after.

Cord: 2/4

Rachel thinks that she has finished the roadblock. She said she filled up 4 green cars... but they're green cars and not green markers... Oh dear.

Comercial.

Post by: Polaroid on March 30, 2014, 07:41:55 PM
And we're back. Rachel is freaking out. She's still trying to get green cars to come. She's yelling and pushing tuk-tuks away.

John: 2/4
Big Easy: 3/4

Rachel is still yelling for green. John tells Rachel that she's actually filling up a red tuk-tuk. Wow. Rachel finally figures out what she did wrong.

John: 3/4

This is crazy. Tuk-tuks flying everywhere, people almost getting run over lol.

Jamal: 3/4

Big Easy pushes Dave's tuk-tuk away. He is actually moving it out of the way omg.

Big Easy: 4/4. Globes out of the roadblock in 1st. Travel by train to Rambukkana and take a tuk-tuk to the Millenium Elephant Foundation. Once there, they must search the river for their next clue.

Jamal: 4/4. Afghanimals out in 2nd.
John: 4/4. JJ out in 3rd.

There are still 12 minutes before the train leaves.

Cord: 4/4. Cowboys out in 4th.
Dave: 4/4.
Caroline: 4/4.

The train station is close so Brenchel can still make it on.

Rachel: 2/4

Post by: Polaroid on March 30, 2014, 07:43:09 PM
Train leaves in 5 minutes...

Rachel: 3/4...

Everyone else is going to make the train...

Rachel: 4/4... They're sprinting for the train... The train is there... They have to get tickets... All the other teams are on... BUT BRENCHEL MAKE IT ON. All the teams are on the same train. How anticlimactic. :stare
Title: Re: TAR 24 East Coast EP 6 SHOW updates and commentary **Expect a delay**
Post by: Polaroid on March 30, 2014, 07:47:11 PM
Tuk-tuk drivers waving. Teams jumping off the train and jumping over fences lol. This is crazy. Tuk-tuks all racing to the elephant place. Tuk-tuks are passing each other and getting passed.

Elephants! :hearts: Teams are all running to get their clue by the river bed. What the heck. It's literally right at the bottom of this river bank surrounded by tall grass.

Detour
Trunk: After choosing a piece of marked timber, they must attach a specialized chain that elephants use to carry logs. Once they have transported a total of 6 logs (3 by the team and 3 by elephant), they will get their next clue.
Chains: Load a wheelbarrow with elephant dung. Combine it with water and scraps of paper. Make the paper with paper making screens. Once they have made 5 sheets of this paper and lay it out to try, they will get their clue.

Logs: Cowboys, Afghanimals, Jessica & John and Dave & Connor.

Cowboys used to this kind of manual labour.

Paper: Globes, Brenchel and Country.

Flight Time just started putting his hand in the poo to get it in the wheelbarrow lol. Country singers say that apparently it didn't smell. Rachel says she has elephant dung on her face. Teams are stirring the dung around with paper.

Jet & Cord have the 1st log properly chained for the elephant. Cord is going to carry one. Afghanimals have their 1st log carried by the elephant. Dave & Connor's chain isn't approved because there's too much slack. John & Jessica's isn't approved either.

Globes and Brenchel are at the paper making station. They're watching a demo.
Title: Re: TAR 24 East Coast EP 6 SHOW updates and commentary **Expect a delay**
Post by: Polaroid on March 30, 2014, 07:51:57 PM
Wow. How the heck did the elephant lift the log up to the truck? Wow. :o
Jet & Cord: 2/6
Leo & Jamal: 2/6. They want to beat the cowboys.

John & Jessica and Dave & Connor's elephants are carrying their 1st logs.

Globes and Brenchel have too much mush for their paper so they have to redo it. Caroline & Jennifer's isn't approved either. Globes have bubbles on their paper. Brenchel's isn't approved. Caroline & Jennifer's not approved again. They have bubbles too.

Commercial.

Back at paper-making. Globes realize that they have to flip over the... thing and press out the bubbles. Their paper is approved. 1/5 done.

Jessica & John: 2/6
Dave & Connor: 2/6
Jet & Cord: 4/6. "We got to beat Leo & Jamal."
Leo & Jamal: 4/6

Jessica: "You're only as fast as your big fat elephant."
Dave & Connor have too much slack again.

Jessica & John: 4/6

Caroline & Jennifer's not approved again. Brenchel realize they forgot to press the paper.

Flight Time & Big Easy: 3/5
Brendon & Rachel: 1/5

Brendon: "I'm the poop master!" :funny:

Caroline & Jennifer: 1/5

Jet & Cord: 6/6. Travel Ambepussa Rest House. Then they will have to find a wise man.

Leo & Jamal are done the detour in 2nd. Jessica & John done in 3rd.

Flight Time & Big Easy: 4/5
Brenchel: 3/5

Flight Time is twerking lol. Their paper is not approved though.

Dave & Connor are done the detour. They find out that only 3 taxis have left so paper took a long time.

Flight Time & Big Easy are done the detour.
Brenchel: 4/5

Afghanimals pass Cowboys. Teams have to let their ears guide them to the wise man, lol. Cowboys find him first and the wise man plays a little melody. Afghanimals waiting.

Pit stop: Mount Lavinia Hotel Beach. Last team to check in may be eliminated.

Race between Cowboys and Afghanimals. Afghanimals have the cowboys in sight. AFGHANIMALS PASS THE COWBOYS?

Jessica & John receive their clue from the wise man.

Brenchel finish the detour in 6th. Caroline & Jennifer finish the detour in last.

Dave & Connor receive their clue from the wise man. Flight Time & Big Easy receive their clue from the wise man. Flight Time: "I used to have hair like that." :funny:

Globes are right behind Dave & Connor. Turns out Dave & Connor's taxi driver is the brother of the Globes' taxi driver, LOL.

Brenchel have received their clue for the pit stop. Caroline & Jennifer receive their clue for the pit stop. Caroline & Jennifer say that Brenchel have a 2 minute lead over them, but traffic is crazy.

Afghanimals try to get a car or a tuk-tuk to get in front of the Cowboys LOL. Afghanimals are somehow now behind the Cowboys again. This is really funny. :funny: BOTH TAXIS STOP. BOTH TEAMS ARE RUNNING TO PHIL...

A COMMERCIAL?

And we're back with a footrace to the pit stop...

But Leo is slower... but now faster... WOW. AFGHANIMALS ARE ON THE MAT FIRST!!!

Leo & Jamal are team #1!!! Foreshadowing from last episode. Jet & Cord are team #2. Sounds like a rivalry between them.

Afghanimals won a 5 night trip for 2 to Berlin, Germany.

Pit stop:
1st - Leo & Jamal
2nd - Jet & Cord

Teams are racing to the pit stop. Globes seem to have a quick taxi. Globes' taxi doesn't know where to go? Globes have gone a different way than Dave & Connor.

Caroline & Jennifer are hoping for a miracle.

Race between Dave & Connor and Jessica & John. Dave: "Yep, you'll beat an old man, guys." Jessica & John easily beat Dave & Connor to the pit stop.

Jessica & John are team #3. Dave & Connor are team #4. Jessica & John are happy that they beat Dave & Connor.

Pit stop:
1st - Leo & Jamal
2nd - Jet & Cord
3rd - Jessica & John
4th - Dave & Connor

Flight Time & Big Easy have gone the wrong way.

Brenchel are team #5. More baby talk if they win. :funny:

Looks like Caroline & Jennifer might have some hope... Just kidding they don't. :funny:

Flight Time & Big Easy are team #6.

Phil: "Not a bad place to end your race?" Caroline & Jennifer are the last team to arrive... But it's a non-elimination leg! Oh Phil. :funny: They say that they had a good leg today and made no mistakes, but they still ended up last. They will encounter a speedbump on the next leg.

Pit stop:
1st - Leo & Jamal
2nd - Jet & Cord
3rd - Jessica & John
4th - Dave & Connor
5th - Brendon & Rachel
6th - Flight Time & Big Easy
7th - Caroline & Jennifer (NEL)

That was a really good episode. Best of the season by miles.

Normally I'd say that the equalizer ruined it, but it still ended with close/exciting finishes  :hrt:

Yay to Leo & Jamal for beating the Cowboys

Yay to Caroline & Jennifer being NEL'd.

No to waiting two weeks for the next episode.  (:;) (But the preview looks great, I can't wait to see more sprints to the finish!)

LEG 6 (Sri Lanka) EPISODE ANALYSIS
For a season that has only visited three countries in half of a race, I was not prepared to make popcorn necklaces. Despite a couple minor editing flaws (ripping open of first clues of other teams, anti-climactic moment of Brendon & Rachel getting onto the train), the task choices are beyond what I expected! Each location had a balanced amount of challenge with an equal amount of problems. In the last task before the Pit Stop, the flutist has me wondering if there will be a final task featuring the flute. ??? In the foot races to the Pit Stop, we saw drama, we heard classic TAR music, and is it just me or is Leo & Jamal vs. Jet & Cord an allusion to Ernie & Cindy and Andy & Tommy's foot race? Dare I say, this is the best Leg of the season so far!

ROADBLOCK:
Filling four tuk-tuks with gasoline may seem easy, but searching for a tiny colored card on vehicles' windows is rather difficult. According to Rachel R., she pulled out her former "I am Vegas!" attitude and began screaming at the top of her lungs to direct eco-friendly tuk-tuks (reference to TAR13's Delhi Roadblock) into "Petco". Drama erupted, Dave went crazy at the station, and tuk-tuks smashing into one another freaked everyone out. Of course, I wonder why routers never thought of searching for tuk-tuks with specific license plates.
ROADBLOCK SCORE: 9/10

DETOUR: (Elephant Trunk or Elephant Dung)
This Detour was quite interesting (even though the first dung paper demonstration grossed me out; I was eating dinner). In the elephant trunk choice, I actually was amused with the simplicity of carrying heavy logs to a storage area although the elephant was doing half the work for them. I'd say it was mediocre at best. The elephant dung option seems really difficult, but all you need to do is follow the Sri Lankan paper makers' demonstrations properly. The two choices balance each other in difficulty which really deserves a kudos from me.
DETOUR SCORE: 9/10

OTHER SCORES:
LEG DIFFICULTY: 7/10
TEAM DRAMA: 9/10
READ YOUR CLUE: 10/10
YOU'RE ONLY AS FAST AS YOUR BIG, FAT ELEPHANT: 6/10
OVERALL SCORE: 9/10

I was really sceptical of Jess and John being on All Stars but they were really boring in their last season but this season they are entertaining. Brenchel, Afghanimals and Team J/J were teams that I was willing to give another chance this season and they have all made me root for them! The only three-timers I was rooting for was Margie & Luke, they were getting TAR14 good but then the missed flight :/ At least Luke handled the elimination with grace which is good :)

This was legitimately the only leg this season that impressed me (the Kuala Lumpur leg being a close 2nd). It's also really funny going on the CBS page and seeing all of the complaints. One person literally complained that the NELs were too close to each other and they have never been that close together (which they have), and don't get me started on the person who felt the need to insult Afghanimal fans by calling us annoying (and half of this person's text was in all caps...people in glass houses, huh?).  :gaah:

Anyways, rant over. I found this to be a very good leg. I was very happy with the outcome, and as much as I like Brenchel, seeing that #ReadTheClue after Rachel's blunder was pretty funny.

I try to ignore the casuals to be honest  :funny: None of them know hard it would be to on the Race under that pressure and teams deal with it anyway they can.

I hope its a 12-hour Pit Stop from the previous leg and started at this leg, and happy the blondes were saved by NEL.

I loved this leg and I think Leo & Jamal and Caroline & Jennifer summed up the concept of "All-Stars" pretty well: everybody is bringing their A-game and running a mistake-free leg doesn't guarantee a place in the front. At this point anybody could go home at any moment.

Episode Thoughts:

I loved it. The Roadblock was insane crazy fun to watch, the great transport races from Sri Lanka 1 continue, and teams competing neck and neck just did it for me. Probably the best episode in like 2 seasons. (Best leg since TAR22 Vietnam tbh)

CAST RANKINGS:

LOVE:

Brendon & Rachel: "GREEN COME ON GREEN!!!!!" <3 They continue to run through the race solidly. They ARE becoming more frantic and epic to watch, and they power through their mistakes with style. I hope they win a leg soon!

Jessica & John: If only they did the Elephant Detour faster. :( They continue to be a very fun and likeable team, and I hope they keep this new momentum up. Them overtaking Dave & Connor <3 Helping Rachel <3

Caroline & Jennifer: They got that right. They ran a mistake-free leg, yet still ended up last. They are one of the reasons I continue watching though, so happy they were NELd. They continue to appreciate everything the Race throws at them and are cheerful ALL. THE. TIME. Stay strong Country <3

Leo & Jamal: Thank god! We have had genuinely fun Afghanimals since Episode 1, with the lying, deceitful, annoying Afghanimals from TAR23 gone. They are the only M/M worth rooting for right now, and I am so happy they overtook Jet & Cord to win the leg. It should be interesting what happens to them and the Cowboys later in the Race when U-Turns pop out. :)

Dislike:

Flight Time & Big Easy: They continue to be loud, but somehow they are REALLY toned down, to the point where they are actually OK at times. Still dislike them though.

Hate:

Dave & Connor: I personally did not like Dave at the RB pushing everyone and them making the Globes go the wrong way. They are still incredibly inoffensive, but I guess a Villain Dave & Connor is better than a "Cancer boo hoo hoo Achiles Tendon hoo hoo hoo" Dave & Connor. They move down to hate for now., but their leg placements make me think they're here to stay for a LOOOOONG time. :(

Jet & Cord: They gave me an Ernie & Cindy vibe the whole leg. Their reaction to being in 2nd was absolutely horrible and showed poor sportsmanship. At least Ernie & Cindy was a good team. The Cowboys have run a total of 26 legs now. Be grateful at least! :res:

Most people have said it, but I have to repeat it - Best Leg of the season yet!

On a side note though, at the end of the episode, Phil says "Next Week on The Amazing Race". Are CBS honestly THAT lazy that they couldn't have edited it to say "In 2 Weeks on The Amazing Race" instead?? It just seems like CBS really doesn't care about this Season! :groan:

Re: the Cowboys reaction to second place- I just can't imagine anyone rejoicing for a second place.  If I remember Cindy was very upset at being outrun by Andy and Tommy.

I really must comment on this leg of the Race, it was the best by far and I can only hope it gets better from here on in.  :luvya:

Now to the leg itself:

Things I really loved:
* After four legs without equalizers, they finally bunched the missing ones into the sixth leg. :funny: However, this leg did explain that equalizers are not a right, but a priviledge. If you make too big of a mistake, you won't get on the train, which almost happened to Brendon & Rachel.
* The Roadblock was insane. The idea was simple, but the chaos the teams were put into (plus the score that rounded it all out) made it amazing. If I was there, I would have probably be filling up my first tuk-tuk after the second-to-the-last team left. :)
* The train rides and the "follow the music" clue was a nice 'calm in-between the storms' kind of thing which added a calm, yet funny comparison to the actual race.
* That music during the first part of the credits :) When has that been used before?

Things that were just off:
* The anti-climactic footage of Brendon & Rachel getting on the train after the Roadblock. But I guess it was the lack of good footage to put in (which wouldn't surprising...)
* The first footrace to the pit stop. The story was great: the Afghanimals hungry for first place and just itching to beat the cowboys to the pit stop. But the music (from the band, sorry) was just off and flat after Leo & Jamal was shown in the lead running up to the pit stop.

We just needed a FT & BE vs Country Singers sprint to the pit-stop. That will make this episode one of the best ever. :funny:

Here I was crossing fingers for that to happen.

So far the best episode of this race, and the only one I will say belong to "All-Stars" category. Caroline&Jennifer were so right at the end everyone was so closed to each other, few little mistakes made time between teams. Big mistake was Rachel's roadblock, and it didn't cost her that much... Dave&Connor and Jessica&John chains, and part of the paper process, so little mistakes, felt so balanced.

I'm somehow liking Jessica&John, especially Jessica, since the trampoline roadblock she hasn't complaint at all about her feets, and they were really hurt in that episode, I can't imagine she is ok. I might be wrong but I think this is their best position since the first leg of their season.

That roadblock was so crazy, a bit too crazy, but was so impressive to watch so many things happening at the same time, everyone bumping in to each other, getting hit by the tuk tuks, Cowboys going around to fill up theirs in a different place, Dave and Big Easy trying to get their turn, Rachel running around like a headless chicken.

Finally the leg felt longer, more route markers which made it less straightforward. The wise man was a weird change of pace though.

I would like to point out how nice the teams were to place the good teams in odd positions and the bad ones in even ones <3
OMG SO TRUE.

AFGHANS JJ BRENCHEL COUNTRY <3 (it's the exact order of my favourite one)

I wish they wont get bunched again after the RB tbh. Would make this episode more thrilling..

Other than that, best leg ever in this season + i could say the RB is memorable, probably one of the best among the current seasons.

I only like the train bunching because it saved Brenchel, but since this was an NEL anyway, yeah I would say the bunching sucked. The Roadblock was very very insane to watch though

As soon as Dave & Connor misdirected them, I couldn't help but think "Yes! Get the Globetrotters eliminated!!" :snicker: :yess:

Then it was still Caroline & Jennifer that came in last, and it was a non-elimination leg... :(

But aside from the fact that there was no elimination, this leg was easily the most dramatic of the season. I actually really enjoyed it! :)

Intro. :res:
Roadblock: One of the worst in my opinion, especially if I were to do it.
Detour: I see the log detour as boring. I like watching the paper detour, but it was a nightmare to me. I like paper but when I found out that some papers are actually made of elephant dung...  :iok
How I wished that there was going to be a U-turn this leg... but it's a good thing that there wasn't, because cowboys got ahead. :res:
The cowboys and the Afghanimals' race to the pit stop was funny. Hooray for Afghanimals! :keeta: They have finally won a leg. Cowboys were funny during the dangerous taxi ride and the finishing in 2nd. "It stings a lil' bit." :funny: I wanna see more rivalry between these 2 teams.
The tasks for this leg was pretty... meh... but what made this leg better was the footraces, close finishes, and pit stop location.
I already checked the spoilers and I was prepared for a NEL, but honestly they should've gone home instead. They're the weak team that normally finishes last from the first batch, and they only survive each leg because there are teams from another flight/batch behind them. Back in TAR22, when they caught up to some of the other teams, and even beat Maxie at the roadblock and to the pit stop, I thought they were a strong team, but they always get lucky on being on the first batch of teams and end up last within their batch.

I agree with you about the Country Singers. They appear to be the opposite of Jessica and John, who always get unlucky and in the back of the pack but then come in first out of their group.
