Previously on The Amazing Race...

10 teams continued racing in Guangzhou.

At the roadblock, Mark built the lead, finishing in 1st. A backpack was left behind and they lost their lead. Caroline fell apart at the roadblock but Jen's quick thinking and charm convinced Jet & Cord to hand over the second Express Pass.

The detour led to a race to the pit stop. Brendon & Rachel earned their first 1st ever. Team Kentucky couldn't overcome their mistake and they were eliminated.

9 teams remain... Who will be eliminated next?

Brenchel won the last leg of the race and depart 1st at 6:22 PM. Fly to Sabah, Malaysian Borneo. After touching down, proceed to Kiansom Waterfall. There are only 2 flights available and seating is limited.

Margie & Luke depart 2nd at 6:23 PM.

Caroline & Jennifer depart at 6:24 PM. They said that the Express Pass kept them in the game.

Dave & Connor depart at 6:26 PM. Last leg 2 was a bad leg for them (broken leg).
Globes at 6:27 PM.
Jet & Cord at 6:28 PM. They're glad they're the only team with an EP.

Dave & Connor are the first to get to the airport. Margie & Luke are the 2nd to arrive. Their flight leaves 3 hours earlier.

Leo & Jamal depart at 6:36 PM. "When you don't speak Chinese, make random noises." loooooool.

John & Jessica depart at 6:49 PM. Joey & Meghan depart at 6:50 PM.

Cowboys are 3rd at the airport. Globes are 4th. Country girls are 5th. There's only room for 1 more team on the 1st flight. Brenchel still haven't made it to the airport...

Battle between Afghanimals and Brenchel to get on the first flight... OMG AFGHANIMALS MAKE IT ON.

Country singers tell Brenchel that they're on the 2nd flight... Omg.

First flight leaves to Kota Kinabalu. Last 3 teams are bonding. That's kind of nice. Too bad they're all fighting for last???

First flight lands. Dave & Connor get into the first taxi. Teams are madly running around yelling taxi. Globes say they need a big taxi lol.

Dave & Connor are first to arrive at the roadblock. Roadblock: Who will fall for this one? Teams will have to join the Travelocity travelling gnome, picking up their clue and basically go down a waterfall lol.

Dave is doing the roadblock. Afghanimals arrive. Jamal is doing the roadblock. This looks like fun.

Dave & Connor finish the roadblock in 1st. Proceed to Kampung Topinahaton. Cowboys arrive. Afghanimals finish. Margie & Luke arrive. Luke is going to do it.

Cord does the roadblock. Cord made it all the way down the falls but realized he didn't get the clue... He missed the clue lol.

Globes get to the roadblock, followed shortly by Country singers. LOL Big Easy was going to do the roadblock but he's too big so Flight Time had to do it.

Luke finish the roadblock in 3rd. Cord had to redo the course so he finished in 4th. Flight Time finishes in 5th. Jennifer finishes in 6th.

I love the raft bulling that they have to do for the detour.

Post by: Polaroid on March 09, 2014, 07:17:45 PM
Second flight departs.

Dave & Connor already arrive at the detour lol. Detour: Build a bamboo raft, then go down the rapids and do:

River Delivery: Transport goods to a village. Once there, deliver the supplies village chief.
Jungle Run: Join a hunting safari. Use a blowpipe and hit a fake target.

Then return to their raft and continue the journey down the river, where they will receive their next clue.

Dave & Connor choose delivery. Dave & Connor work on building their raft. Afghanimals arrive. Margie & Luke pick delivery. All teams working on building their raft.

Dave & Connor getting their supplies for the delivery. They start rafting. Cowboys arrive and they're going to do delivery too.
Title: Re: TAR 24 East Coast EP 3 SHOW updates and commentary **please read the rules**
Post by: Polaroid on March 09, 2014, 07:20:39 PM
Cute. The gnome has a little lifejacket. Afghanimals do delivery. Margie & Luke try carrying their raft to the water but it falls apart because they can't tie knots according to Margie, lol.

Cowboys have already left with their supplies.

Margie is at the front of the raft but Luke is on the back so they can't really communicate...

Caroline & Jennifer arrive 5th at the detour. They're building their raft. Globes arrive at the detour in 6th. They're dancing with the locals, lol.

Dave & Connor are sailing pretty well. Dave & Connor see the sign for the hunting detour, but the delivery is 6 bridges down? Or maybe not? Afghanimals see the sign and they're delivering it to the village. Afghanimals realize Dave & Connor missed it. :o Afghanimals finish their delivery.
Title: Re: TAR 24 East Coast EP 3 SHOW updates and commentary **please read the rules**
Post by: Polaroid on March 09, 2014, 07:22:22 PM
Afghanimals see Jet & Cord approaching the sign... Cowboys stop and ask if this is the delivery place... Afghanimals said they would have lied last season... But they told Jet & Cord the truth. They don't want to be 2x U-Turned, lol.

Cowboys finish the delivery.

Dave & Connor realized they missed the drop off for the food when they see the hunters at the 2nd marker...

Commercial.

Interesting to see Brenchel from the front to the back of the pack.

Missed the roadblock entirely, impressed it was that fast.

And we are back to globetrotter music, AGAIN.

No! Dave and Connor missed the delivery place. Looks like Leo&Jamal learn from last season, hopefully they'll stick to it.

Are you surprised? They've always say they are racing on their own.
I'm surprised they ask for directions to Leo&Jamal to be honest.

Dave & Connor now have to walk back to deliver their supplies?

Second flight lands. All teams get into cabs.

Afghanimals think that the water is peaceful and calm... but then it gets crazy. Their raft gets stuck under trees or something. The raft is coming apart. One of the bamboo sticks comes apart... They're hanging onto their raft. LOL. Cowboys just peacefully pass them. :funny:

Margie & Luke deliver their supplies.

Caroline & Jennifer see the crazy water... and they're getting trapped into it. They've gotten stuck onto a rock. Something is happening. Lots of screaming. Jennifer was screaming because her finger almost got cut off.

Globes are getting into dangerous rapids too. They've crashed onto rocks.

Jessica & John first to arrive at roadblock, followed by Brenchel. YouTube is last.

Dave & Connor keep walking back with their supplies to try to deliver the food to the chief... They must have walked a long way. :o They've delivered it and now they're going back to the raft.

Country singers see the hunting detour. Globes are right behind too. Country singers pick a girl warrior.

Jen managed to hit a parrot target! Wow! First try! Caroline was close but missed.

Flight Time misses on his first try, but hits on the second.

Dave & Connor manage to finish the detour in 1st??? WHAT. Proceed to the pit stop, Tanjun Aru Water Village. The last team to check in may be eliminated.

Jet & Cord finish the detour in 2nd. Afghanimals finish in 3rd. They look exhausted.

Jessica finish the roadblock in 7th. Rachel finishes the roadblock in 8th. Rachel didn't want to get her green sequins shorts wet so she did the roadblock in her underwear LOL. Brendon: "I'll massage your butt tonight!" LOL THERE WAS A CENSOR, HAHAHA. Joey finishes the roadblock in last.

Joey & Meghan didn't hold their taxi... Now they don't have a taxi. They have to walk to find a taxi somewhere... They're literally in the middle of nowhere.

Margie falls off the raft. They back of their raft fell apart so Margie took her shirt and tied it together.

Dave & Connor have no clue what place they're in right now. Race between Dave & Connor, Cowboys and Afghanimals.

And...

Dave & Connor are team #1! They've won a trip for 2 to Budapest.

Pit stop:
1st - Dave & Connor

Is a cool pitstop but why so soon? Come on! they could've make at least one more challenge in this leg.

oh man, Dave&Connor got 1st on 3rd Leg, isn't this the cursing leg where you never win the race if you get 1st on the third leg... damn it.

Aaaaand, Joey&Meghan praying to the taxi gods, this is probably the worst time to do it considering you are fighting to don't get last. At least they are still positive :/

And we're back with Joey & Meghan having trouble finding a taxi... They find a homeowner to call them a taxi... And they finally get a taxi. They're really behind now.

Uh oh. Margie or Luke had a nasty cut on the knee.

Caroline is still struggling to hit her target. Big Easy hits his target. Globes get very intense. They start dancing with the hunters. Then they're off. Caroline is still struggling... She finally hits her target!

Jessica & John pick hunter. Brenchel arrive and they pick hunter as well. They're both working on making the raft. Uhm, Jessica & John have a very poorly constructed raft... lol. It's falling apart as they're going down the river... lol. John said he wanted to see how it performed in the water before rebuilding it.

Rachel tells the camera she doesn't think they're raft is very good. :funny:

Margie & Luke arrive at the pit stop in 4th.

Pit stop:
1st - Dave & Connor
2nd - Jet & Cord
3rd - Leo & Jamal
4th - Margie & Luke

Jessica & John said that they have canoeing experience so they had no problem once they were in the water. Rachel says she doesn't know how Jessica & John's raft held together. Brendon falls in the water. He says their raft is going to fall apart. Their raft falls apart... Rachel says she's not ready to go home.

YouTube arrive at rafts and they pick hunter too.

Brenchel are having more trouble with the rapids... Brendon is totally off the raft! He starts getting carried downstream! He tries swimming back... Rachel falls off the raft too! They've both let go of the raft.

Commercial.

Aaand more globetrotter music... AGAIN.  :groan:

OMG, why would you even go in to the water with a raft that is falling apart, that is just being dumb.

Why Rachel? Why do you have to be so annoying.

Ok, Jessica&John using their shoulder to balance the blowgun, that's smart, I'm surprised.

Oh, man, Brenchel got separated by the river, this is getting dangerous... :/

Brendon & Rachel find their raft. They lost some of the parts for it... How the heck did Jessica & John's raft make it but theirs didn't??? Brendon swims upstream and grabs some vines and sticks. They manage to fix up their raft. Rachel just says she just wants to not die, lol.

John hits his target. John says he'll gather the berries next time and Jessica will hunt.

OMG BRENCHEL RUN INTO MORE TROUBLE WITH THE RAPIDS? They crash into rocks. Wow, they finally arrive at the hunter detour.

Joey & Meghan are going down the rapids fine.

Brendon hits his target. Woah. This little hunting montage thing feels like Survivor? Rachel says she has no clue where Joey & Meghan are so she's worried.

Jessica & John are team #7.

Pit stop:
1st - Dave & Connor
2nd - Jet & Cord
3rd - Leo & Jamal
4th - Margie & Luke
5th - Flight Time & Big Easy

Brendon & Rachel arrive at the pit stop. They're team #8. Rachel is shocked.

Joey & Meghan are shown finishing the detour and arriving at the pit stop. They're the last team to arrive... And they've been eliminated from the race. Meghan said it's slightly embarrassing that they're out so soon, but Joey says they still had a fun time.

The only way Joey&Meghan will survive this leg is with a NEL.

Aaaaand it didn't happen. They were eliminated. Sadly, I like this team, they are fun to watch and they are supportive to each other.

What a lame leg, pretty much a straight line.

I loved the rafting task, I thought it was a great task full of drama. I just wish teams were closer together so we could see more drama.

Also, I usually love split flights, but I didn't it helped this leg because the bottom 3 were so far away from each other.  I wished everyone was bunched

WORST LEG in ages.

First of all, after such crappy and altogether departure times, how do producers dare to put 3 teams fighting 3 hours behind?

Linear RB, with no way to pass any other team.

Dangerous Detour thing (I don't know which part of the task is the Detour, and which part of an ARI, if any, alol), but without place switching.

When you expect something else... Pitstop. RLY? I have stayed awake for this? I am annoyed now. And pissed off... tbh

LEG 3 (China ---> Malaysia) EPISODE ANALYSIS:
Kota Kinabalu exceeded my expectations after watching two generally poor Legs in Guangzhou, China. Transitioning from a developed metropolis to a rural region of Malaysian Borneo shocked some teams' waves a little. In more relevant terms, water rapids knocked them off their butts. After being disappointed from China, I was pleased to see the episode take a turn in a better direction with more transportation and task drama. I am still upset about the new Survivor-style intro though. I really don't see the point of cutting off all team scenes from the opening.

ROADBLOCK: Rappelling down 20% of a waterfall is not very challenging as the promos try to claim. There wasn't much point in the task as teams were only spread a bit more than switched in order. On the plus side, the natural beauty of Borneo's forestry really brought a fresh terrain in this "all-stars" season.
ROADBLOCK SCORE: 5/10

DETOUR: Hunters or Gatherers
The Detour difficulty and effectiveness was actually pretty good. Both seem like simple tasks, but teams could get caught in a mess if they raft pass the designated drop-off point (Dave & Connor) or can't hit a target meters away (John of John & Jessica). I felt the Detour was straightforward though since there was no real challenge than the ones given. The slight level 2-3 river currents weren't that dangerous as the previews said they would be so I was kind of underwhelmed over that. However, I'll give them a plus for causing Margie & Luke and Brendon & Rachel problems in the river.
DETOUR SCORE: 8/10

OTHER SCORES:
LEG DIFFICULTY: 7/10
TEAM DRAMA: 7/10
JOHN SMITH vs. JOHN WAYNE: 9/10
OVERALL SCORE: 7/10

I thought the leg was decent. I loved the rafting task, it was fab <3

I wished everyone was together without the flights and had it first would have been way better and it would have been great!

The Roadblock was dumb, I hated it.

And flights really took away a lot of drama that there could have been if everyone was together.

Overall it was decent.

Did anyone else notice that awkward flashback when Joey & Meghan were talking about walking to their Pit Stop in Season 22? The caption totally said Season 18. CBS fails at editing.  :groan:

Edited - I had accidentally said Season 28 (instead of Season 18), unless I just had some Nostradamus moment haha

Well Malaysian Borneo distinguishes it from other parts of Borneo that are in other countries, but I don't see why they don't just say Malaysia TBH.

Kota Kinabalu was already visited in TAR4. I remember that. They went there with the priest and one of the surfers said that "she reminded me to my grandmother". I think it was the Gua Gomantong epic RB where Kelly and Jon passed Millie & Chuck, and the epic race to the pitstop <3

Something that surprises me is that Jet & Cord haven't said anything about the U-Turn from their last season. Considering Flight Time & Big Easy are back as well they'd try to play up the drama between them.

Overall, it was a very VERY good episode but I have a major complaint.

WHAT IN THE WORLD WERE THE FLIGHTS?  (:;) (:;) (:;) (:;) (:;) (:;) (:;)

IT WAS A LEG THAT COULD REALLY HAVE BENEFITED WITH EVERYONE RACING NEXT TO EACH OTHER AND THEN THEY DO THAT? :res:

Why couldn't the flights be determined by an Active Route Info task instead? Ugh.

Not to mention the continued shortened intro :res:

CAST RANKINGS BASED ON EPISODE 3:

LOVE/LIKE:

Brendon & Rachel: Still the best team in the cast. They may have messed up, but they went through the leg hilariously and epicly. From Rachel doing the Roadblock in her underwear to prevent her sequins from getting wet, to their entire boat fail ("I LOST THE RAFT!"  :funny: :funny: :funny:), to even them getting a Survivor style montage, they are legitimately REAL All-Stars, and the saving grace of this season.

Joey & Meghan: Now that was a sad boot. Unfortunately, they redid their history (in a sense), and they got screwed over a LOT, first with the flights, then with their cab. It was nice to see Meghan have more of a voice this season, and even though Joey & Meghan may be called a lot of things, you can never truly call them quitters. Another continuation to our horrible boot list.

Jessica & John: They continue to be a fun engaged couple. They sure aren't "All Stars worthy", but they are sure much better this time around. Rooting for them, and surprisingly great. And with YouTube out of the Race, I hope they become the real bottom goddesses of the season.

Caroline & Jennifer: I just like them. Their energy is nice to watch, and they perform tasks really well. I can't really think of anything more than the fact that they are the only F/F team left that's extremely likeable.

Margie & Luke: Once again, Margie is the bionic woman indeed. Mad props to Margie for completely staying calm and cool throughout the leg while Luke complained and got flustered once again. Based on the preview next week, Margie's about to get FIERCE <33333, so I hope they survive the next leg at least because they are the best among the threepeaters, and one of the(shockingly!) best teams of the season.

Leo & Jamal: Toned-down Afghanimals are great Afghanimals. They did tasks well, their camera-playing was actually pretty funny this time, and I'm extremely happy to see them "be honest". Much more fun this time around.

Dislike:

Dave & Connor: We transition from cancer talk to Achilles talk! Hooray! :res:

HATE:

Flight Time & Big Easy: Once again, they're back to being loud. Ew.

HATE X1000000:

Jet & Cord: Wow, what "gentlemen" indeed! Their attitude about "not being first" is disgusting, and most especially their horrible attitude refusing to help the Afghanimals after Leo & Jamal helped them arrive at the correct Detour. Please, please be eliminated next.

Overall IMO, this leg is pretty meh.
- The roadblock and detour were meh.
- No ARI to make the leg better.
- Afghanimals wanting to lie at the cowboys, but could not.
- Cowboys catching up as usual, plus their smooth flow comment from the Afghanimals during the latter's raft breaking apart. :funny:
- What did Dave & Connor do to get ahead of everyone else? ???
- CaroJen finishing last among the 1st flight teams. :res:
- Team JJ seems more likable now compared to their original season.
- Editors' error on Youtube's flashback. It was just 2 seasons ago.
- Brenchel finishing in 8th. They should've finished last so that they'd get a 9th place curse. :funny:
- I was expecting a keep on racing, but never mind.
- The leg looks a bit physical but it seems pretty meh to me.
- How did Brenchel fall from 1st? ???
- Cowboys got ahead of Afghanimals at the pit stop, good thing it wasn't for 1st. :funny:
- I was waiting for Rachel to cry.
- Youtube staying positive throughout the race. :)
- Big Easy's too big. :funny:

Does any one have a map of the river?  Where Dave and Connor did the pull out seems to have been close to the clue giver.  Scenario-they miss the marker for the delivery, continue on and pull out at the clue giver.  They then run back to the chief with the goods.  The village seems to have been on a peninsula on the river, not a straight line.  So after delivery, teams continued down river but the river goes away from the village then comes back to the clue giver.  Then it is possible that the dart detour is at the top of the peninsula away from the village.  Just speculation.  Also the main rapids are after the delivery as no one has the box of supplies on the raft  through the rapids.  (Don't know about Dave and Connor)

i feel weird, but i like the previous leg ( Guang zhou 2 ) better than this one. i had major problems with the flight separation. firstly, the time gap was too big. and secondly, it's determined by the one and only taxi drivers.

the roadblock was very linear. the only thing that could make a team overtake another team is when someone completely missed the clue ( Jet and Cord ). unlike the previous leg where the roadblock completely scrambled the placement.

i have to say that the raft building was uniquely design and created drama. however the drama would've been more tense IF THEY ALSO USED MORE ADVENTUROUS AND MUCH LESS PLAYFUL MUSIC CLIPS. i'm seriously getting tired of this.

the detour was meh. it's better to see someone struggling in keeping shuttlecocks airborne rather than delivering goods to a chief. or hunting a fake animal with a blowpipe.

i don't know about you guys but i don't feel annoyed at all by the fact dave and conor talked about broken achilles. i was quite surprised by how little they've been talking about their problem in the last season. it was the ultimate background why they are chosen in all stars

i was quite disappointed, on the plus side, the preview of next week's episode looked very promising. and it was a night leg :D  :colors

Second: I don't know if I'm mistaking, but the clue not says that when they finished the detour they have to go river down to give the clue? Dave & Connor go running instead by the raft. I don't know, maybe i'm mistaking, but if i'm not... they had to have a penalty, I think. :/

Third: Achilles, Crutches... OMGG once again? This team is so bored.

I was disappointed in the 3 hour time difference between flights as well. It made it nearly impossible for one of the teams on the earlier flight to be eliminated. If it is true, as we have speculated a while back, that this was a hastily arranged pair of legs to replace ones in the Philippines, then it may be that these flights were the best they could arrange on short notice. The fact that they provided flights rather than let teams find them on their own may point to it being a change in plans.

I wonder if the teams got any coaching before they did the rafting or if they had people stationed along the rapids to rescue people if they got into trouble. Those didn't seem like serious rapids, but the teams didn't seem like they knew what they were doing. Even a fairly gentle set of rapids can cause serious trouble in the right situation. I nearly drowned in a canoeing accident many years back on a normally very gentle river. Nobody warned us that the river would be running high and fast in early April and that there might be downed trees just below the surface of the river, LOL. The scenes from the rafting gave me a touch of the willies, even though I knew nothing bad had happened (or it would have made news). I may be overly sensitive about this subject though.

There are a couple of other things that point to "replacement legs," such as the time of departure from the pit stop was a rare nighttime departure which has been uncommon since TAR moved to filming in HD. Then in TAR 4, the legs were sufficiently planned to allow teams to self drive rather than use taxis during the leg. (Production would have had to arrange for Fords to be available for driving, since Ford is now a sponsor and we know that navigation is always a way to spread teams out.)

The detour task was fine for the location and the fact that it called for teams to use skills they might not have had. Some teams simply assembled their rafts poorly, or didn't properly move the raft in the water (which meant a lack of experience.) I can't recall any physical task where the Cowboys aren't fast. We've known this since their original season, and they're very consistent about this.

The roadblock was a psych out of the teams since they might not realize what the roadblock actually was, so while it might have been only a part of the waterfall to reach the clue, you still needed to get to the clues to grab one.

It's clear there was some order shuffling in the taxis both to the airport after leaving the pitstop, and during the leg. Joey and Meghan's downfall was releasing the taxi when they reached the roadblock location; I think they would have survived but for that mistake.

They went down to the clue giver first and brought the supply back to the chef, then run back again so they did not need to raft again after delivery.

The Detour was great because every team had to construct a raft. The tasks are pretty good too. The Roadblock was very underwhelming though. It's one of those tasks where you can't really pass another team (unless you miss the clue like Cord did  )

This is extremely rare but three episodes in, I'm finding myself liking ALL of the all-male teams currently. I usually go for the couples and female teams, but the all-male teams are somehow standing out to me. THOUGH I hate FT/BE's theme music :res: . I don't really mind Dave & Connor's mentions of their last race.. like come on, OF COURSE they'll mention/bring the injury up. The Afghanimals are fun and the Cowboys aren't doing much harm or anything to be offensive.

Other than the guys, Margie & Luke are doing better [so far] this time around. I like Brendon & Rachel, as well as the Country Singers. John & Jessica are just.. there.

Joey was really quiet this time around. Wonder if it's the editing or if he just learned to keep quiet  They were never the best racers and I knew from the beginning they couldn't handle these tougher teams.

Sidenote: Ugh, Rachel had a few quotes that remind me of the older seasons' episode titles for some reason. The episode titles these past few seasons are so boring. "Welcome to the Jungle" isn't entertaining or attention-grabbing. What if the title was "I Don't Think Their Raft Will Work" (Rachel talking abo ut John & Jessica's "raft" ) or "I Lost The Raft!" :funny:

I don't know but Dave & Connor after seeing the second Detour, they decide to continue rafting down the river, before running back to the chef and then back to their raft, again.

So I assume that they decided to raft to where the clue giver is firstly then finished the delivery, then back to the clue giver. But anyway, we do not really know what happened in this case.

My take on arranged flights is a bit different.  Because of the destination, I speculate that there are few flights to the region.  Thus, by arranging flights for the teams, they prevented one (or more) Team from getting really far behind (like 24 hr behind because they could not get a timely flight).  I would have preferred more Teams on the second flight vs. the first flight.

I wonder if the teams got any coaching before they did the rafting or if they had people stationed along the rapids to rescue people if they got into trouble.

I am pretty sure they had lots of people stationed along the rapids. You could see rubber boats in the background in quite a few shots.

Thanks. I didn't notice the rubber boats, but I knew they had to have lots of precautions. There is no way they were going to take a chance of having someone drown.

Can I say, when Dave and Connor abandoned their raft, and then ran back to deliver their items, should they have ran all the way back and used the raft to go all the way down the river?

Was there some sort of penalty that should be given for incorrect completion of task. Imagine if it's a really meandering river, that would mean that if they actually WALKED instead of RAFTED down the river, they could have saved so much more time because it all seemed really near? They missed three bridges and are still able to walk ALL the way back showing that it's completely in walking distance for the river Detour tasks?

Anyone has the clue image of the Detour? It just seems puzzling to me that they were able to go 4th to 1st on foot.. and we all know that sometimes road travel is faster than water travel.

I certainly hope that did not happen.

I relooked the scene and Dave and Connor ran down on land to the man handing out the Detour completion clue, while the others arrived on RAFT.

When Leo and Jamal received their clue, they said "CONTINUE DOWN THE RIVER", which they were already using raft at that time so the clue would naturally mean to use the raft. So if Dave and Connor ended up running down instead (which now it seems like), then that isn't really fair? If the Cowboys, Margie and Luke or Leo and Jamal were to run instead of rafted down, they would have been before Dave and Connor.

PS: I wish they stop trying really hard to show a negative side of Luke this season?

First leg we see Margie saying that Luke held his hand and run and she can't do it because he's fast and she's not (trying to show that he's inconsiderate).

Second leg the only memorable thing I remembered about Luke was how Luke refused to listen to his mom right at the start when he just sent a taxi driver off and Margie was like let me talk to him.

This leg they were relatively not shown and then at the end of the episode, we got reminded how Luke's really breaking under pressure.

I expect production calculated exactly what Dave and Connor could do. They may have actually gone FURTHER.

And I love Luke, but we all know that he does becomes frustrated easily...surfboards, tea, and now bartending. Handling these frustrating tasks more calmly would have helped him enormously....

But how did they just go from 4th to 1st? It just doesn't make sense. Suddenly it becomes an American Idol edit this season. :funny:

I don't know how you get 4th.......they were in 1st the whole way to me, after Cord had to redo the waterfall.

I call this the wet leg, waterfall, river, and rain. I thought the rafting was difficult and scary.

Weren't they 4th to complete the Detour? Then the next moment, they were 1st to receive their next clue... while the other teams were slowly cruising down the river?

They were 4th to complete the Detour, but they were running to get their next clue instead of rafting back.

I think there's been some misinterpretation of what Dave-Connor did. They overshot the mid-point where they were supposed to stop in the raft to deliver the supplies, and then go back to the raft to continue downstream to where the clue giver was.
They went to where the clue giver was, then carried the supplies back on foot to the midpoint to deliver them, and then went back to where they had left the raft. If they still needed to go further to get to the clue giver, then the editing implies that they did so.
They don't get a penalty if they were supposed to because the amount of time they lost having to carry the supplies on foot back to that mid point and then return on foot to their raft downstream is the penalty in and of itself; there was no need to impose one. They did reach all the points they needed to reach on the detour and had they not done so, then they would have been sent back by Phil or by the clue giver to do so.

The question is, what if going on foot is actually faster?

Well I guess we see the detour differently.

To me, the detour involved constructing a raft and floating from Point A (the start of the float) to Point B (the end of the float). Along the way, teams had their choice of two tasks. Either deliver food to a village chief or hunt birds with a blowpipe. When teams finished their choice of tasks, they were given a "chit" to show they had completed one of the taks. At the end of the detour, they gave the "chit" to the man at the end of the float. Arrival at the end of the float with "chit"signified the end/completion of the detour and teams then received the next clue for the next part of the leg.

Dave and Connor may very well have been 4th to complete the deliver task, BUT they had already completed the float portion since they went all the way to the end. Then they carried their food delivery over land to complete their task. Leo/Jamal and Margie/Luke had to take time to repair their rafts, before completing the float portion. After the delivery, D/C got their "chit" and returned overland to get next clue. As we saw, they were the 1st team to finish the detour and get the next clue to the pit stop.

I doubt it was faster, but D/C did not have to stop to repair their raft. Plus they really hustled on the overland portion.

To be honest, D/C didn't complete the entire course of the journey..? I went back to repeat the clip at 19 minutes into the show and that guy at the end of the float was no where to be seen when they actually stopped rafting and went on land to travel back to deliver their goods. So, if they actually found somewhere to stop soon after they saw that they were already at the blowpipe option, then they did not complete the entire course of the river?

My concern here is then, shouldn't they not go back to their raft after delivering, and continue down the course of the river to meet the guy at the end of the whole journey by rafting but not on foot?

And you're right, they did not have to repair their raft which may have been destroyed by the rapids if they had to use the raft to complete the entire remaining course?

They were shown running ON FOOT to the man when they received their clue. No raft seen.

They ran right back to their raft. The river guide/clue giver is standing right in front of the raft. It is at the 25:00 minute mark approximately.

[/quote]

The rapids which destroyed every team raft (Afghanimals, Maggie & Luke, Country Girls, Brenchel) are before the location for the second detour and Dave & Connor already passed that rapid without any problem (actually, this scene was shown).
The place where Dave & Connor stopped their raft was shown in close view so we did not really know the clue giver was standing near by or not. But after delivery, Connor said something about running back to their raft.
And I think Dave & Connor is the 4th to delivery but the first to complete the Detour (related to your game though :p)

:groan: I think I get it now.

Dave & Connor arrived at the Detour clue box first and started rafting first. Downstream they went and they passed the delivery detour dock. Meanwhile, Leo & Jamal and Jet & Cord docked their rafts there to deliver the fruits and receive their piece of wood. Then Dave & Connor arrived at the blowpipe detour dock and discovered they should have got off on the previous dock they saw. So Dave & Connor continued rafting to the end, picked up the box and walked all the way back there. Meanwhile, Leo & Jamal and Jet & Cord made their way downstream, while Margie & Luke stopped at the deliver detour dock and gave the chief the fruits and receive the piece of wood. Dave & Connor then arrived at the chief and gave them the box of fruits, and received the piece of wood.

The next thing Dave & Connor had to do is ride their raft downstream to the man who would give them their clue for the piece of wood for finishing their Detours. They must have passed Margie & Luke, Jet & Cord, and Leo & Jamal as the father & son ran on foot while the other three teams were on rafts. Dave & Connor returned to the end of the river in first place since running on foot would be faster than dealing with the rapids. Dave & Connor arrived at the 'end of the river' dock and received the next clue in first place, though they received the piece of wood in fourth.

All this time I thought they had to ride their raft upstream after they finished their respective Detours.  :funny:
