Tony Vlachos

Name (Age): Tony Vlachos (39)
Tribe Designation: Brawn Tribe
Current Residence: Jersey City, N.J.
Occupation: Police Officer
Personal Claim to Fame: Becoming a Jersey City police officer.
Inspiration in Life: My father for being the dad that he was. He was a great role model and I hope that I can be the same for my children.
Hobbies: Jet skiing, playing pool and surfing the web.
Pet Peeves: Thugs who wear skinny jeans. Also, people who see me speaking on the phone, but yet they feel the need to start a conversation with me. Like it’s that urgent for them to know "how's it going" while I'm speaking on the phone. SO RUDE!!!
3 Words to Describe You: Versatile, clever and competitive.
If You Could Have 3 Things on The Island What Would They Be and Why? Cigarettes, coffee and liquor. I don’t smoke or drink coffee or liquor, but I would love to bring those items with me just so that I can barter with my tribemates! You know at some point in the game they would even give up immunity just to have a little taste of these items.
SURVIVOR Contestant You Are Most Like: Russell Hantz, because I can be just as devious. Boston Rob, because I can be just as slick.
Reason for Being on SURVIVOR: My main reason: The MILLION DOLLARS of course. There's no way I would be going out there for half that prize! Secondly, I’m a huge fan of the show and I would love to give the fans a great season to be remembered.
Why You Think You’ll “Survive” SURVIVOR: Adapt and overcome! That’s the kind of training I have as a cop and that’s exactly what I’m going to do on that island! Adapt and I will overcome!
Why You Think You Will Be the Sole SURVIVOR: I have been a street cop for 12 years. My experiences as a cop give me a huge advantage going into this game. Being outside my element is my forte. That's what I do for a living. What’s going to be normal for me will be very stressful for the average castaway.
Do You Consider Yourself a Brain, a Beauty or a Brawn? Sounds like a trick question. We'll let’s see. I'm a beautiful person that has a sharp brain and strong muscles. Based on appearance, I would consider myself "Brawn." For the purposes of Survivor though, I would consider myself "Brains." Maybe I wasn't the smartest in school, but I was always the sharpest!!!
Who Do You Think Has the Best Chance in the Game of Survivor: Brains, Beauty or Brawn? Survivor is definitely a game of all-around strategy. Brawn and beauty can fight over silver, but Brains would surely bring home the gold!

He looks like a stereotypical muscular douche, but I really see an intelligent & smart person!  :wohoo: Not a favourite, but I like him a lot!
Btw kinda weird that they cast 2 police officers, I think they're definitely gonna align since they're on the same tribe

Jersey City police officer on 'Survivor Cagayan' lauded for saving neighbor's life

The Jersey City police officer who has made it to the final four on the CBS "Survivor Cagayan" series is being credited with saving the life of a 69-year-old neighbor who had a massive heart attack on the officer's lawn.

“Without a doubt, he saved my life and I cannot figure out enough ways to thank him,” said Greg Nies, who lives in North Carolina but was visiting relatives in Allendale on Feb. 5 while Police Officer Tony Vlachos was moving in next door.

“There’s just not enough things you can do for someone who brings you back to life. I would have been gone except for the rapid administration of the CPR,” said Nies of the incident which came to light when his son sent a letter of thanks to Jersey City Police Chief Robert Cowan recently.

That day, Nies had been shoveling snow when Vlachos and his friend Sherif Fanous arrived next door and their car got stuck.

“He was moving into a new place and didn’t have any tools so I took a shovel over to loan him,” Nies said Friday. “I walked about 150, 200 feet through the 9-inch-deep snow and when I got there his friend was outside and I greeted him and told him what I was there for and I went over like a tree – down.” After that, Nies’ only knowledge of events is through witnesses.

“Sharif started screaming ‘Tony. Tony.’” Vlachos said. “When he went outside Sharif was on the phone to 911 and the phone was shaking like a leaf. It looked like a cartoon…I saw (Nies) and he was a mixture of blue, black and purple and it was obvious he was dead.’”

Vlachos said he ripped Nie’s jacket open and began compressions. He said he told Fantous to give the 911 operator the address, get off the phone and do the CPR breathing. After 20 of 25 compressions, Vlachos told Fantous to give Nies three breaths.

“About two minutes later, and two minutes feels like two hours, his color came back and (Nies) took some little breaths but he went under again – no pulse, no breathing no signs of life and he started changing colors again,” Vlachos said.

The pair continued CPR for seven or eight minutes until police and an ambulance arrived and by then Nies was getting some color back, Vlachos said. Nies said he later learned a defibrillator was used to shock him once at the scene and five times in the ambulance.

“I’m told I woke up about an hour later and then crashed again,” Nies said, adding that he underwent a quadruple bypass and is home and recovering but not back to his regular routine yet. “(Vlachos) had done a great job of keeping me going.”

Vlachos said weeks later, Nies “Came over my house and shook my hand like a vise grip. It was like watching an angel come down because I saw the guy dead in front of me. For this guy to just walk to me from the dead, it sent chills down my spine…It is the most beautiful feeling you can ever have as a human being.”

After receiving the letter from Nies’ son, the police recommended Vlachos for a commendation, saying “While off-duty, he still acted in the capacity of a police officer and used his training to save a life.”

The "Survivor' show’s season finale will be broadcast Wednesday. Of the 18 who started, Vlachos is among the four survivors who will learn that night if he is the sole survivor and winner of $1 million.

Vlachos will be flying to Los Angeles to watch the 2-hour final episode and learn his fate. His wife will not be able to attend because she is eight months pregnant with their second child.

Matthew Nies’ letter to Chief Cowan ends saying “My father is able to see his granddaughter again because of the quick actions of Officer Vlachos and for that I am eternally grateful.”

I'm glad he won - don't understand the beef between him and Sarah, though.

I was totally hoping for a non-Tony win. TBH, I just do not like him. He was always like OTT, arrogant and thinking he was the king in there, when he became the most paranoid at times in the island. I just do not like him.

I'm glad he won - don't understand the beef between him and Sarah, though.

I think the beef is now that after Sarah was officially booted off, she did interviews and didn't say very nice things about Tony.  Tony got mad and went to the Twitterverse to defend himself.

The original beef between them is that Sarah considers her badge a true sign of honor and respect and when she swore on that, she was swearing the honest truth.  Tony doesn't view his badge that way and just did it to get her on his side.  I admire Sarah for thinking so highly of her badge and her job.

I think Sarah will be called back again without a doubt I guess. Tony... maybe so, if they don't mind getting winners back.

I think it is the sickest feeling when someone swears to you on such important things as their family, cop badge and then intentionally breaks that oath..... I mean, if I ask somebody to swear to me and they do, I never expect them to go back on their word. It's just something I take really seriously, too, and everyone (, Tony,) should. :/

I think Sarah will be called back again without a doubt I guess. Tony... maybe so, if they don't mind getting winners back.
+1

But it's Survivor though, some people's word means nothing to themselves and are willing to do that for a million dollars. I'm not one to do that personally, but I can understand why he did so because it's a game for $1,000,000

I don't think that's something I would do either, but I have absolutely no problem with the "do anything to win" mentality, especially when the person is playing in an intelligent manner, as Tony did.

I just wish people would stop swearing on their family, it just makes the game more complicated than it needs to be.
