Iquique is one of the most importants cities in the north of our country. As you know is sorrounded by the desert and it has many interesting places inside and ouside the city. If i have to think in an extreme challange (like in many first legs), would be something like paragliding. There are a lot of high cliffs ariound the city.

Since there were no updates on the LA starting line, it may be like season 20 (Bridlewood Winery; Santa Barbara) when the starting line is in a weird location. Long Beach or Simi Valley perhaps? ???

The pit stop for the first leg of the race is: Plaza Prat

Past but somehow recent pictures and video of paragliding in Iquique.

http://youtu.be/Q-OV5oSPPac

From: oasisflyparapente.blogspot.mx

(Playa Huayquique, Playa Brava o Playa Cavancha)."

Flights last between 20-30 minutes in the air depending on daily weather conditions. Flights take place from our "take-off" at Alto Hospicio, 490 metres above sea level and depending on conditions we will make a flight plan to set our landing which may be in one of our three beaches in Iquique. (Huayquique Beach, Playa Brava or Cavancha Beach).

Well... not typical. ;) The starting lines usually start in or near major cities like Chicago (6), Los Angeles (4, 12, 13, 15, 16, 22), and Seattle (10). If there was a Long Beach starting line, there would definitely be nearby closures you, a resident, probably would have noticed. I am suggesting they might have started the race at a less populous city. Maybe Laguna Beach...

TAR has done a phenomenal job of not being seen this time. Or being seen in multiple places at the same time. How did they do that? Very clever. But where in the world is TAR now? Keeps us guessing.

Confirmed Phil was in Lisbon...

Posted approx. 2 days ago (from my time GMT+8, 9.22AM now)

"With Amazing Race host, Phil Keoghan, what are chances of meeting him here!?"

Detect the exact spot guys... Lisbon town square maybe?

This is the Monumento a los Descubridores. It is a sort of square just in the river. There are two world globes like that, one at each side of the monumento. It is in the neighbourhood of Belem. There is a huge plaza not far from there, the Torre de Belem, the Monasterio de los Jeronimos, some sort of cultural centre, and a harbour.

PS. When we went there, my mom just sat on the white structure below the globe you can see in the further part of the picture.

BTW, I just did not read Boingo's reply. Yes, it is there. :)

Btw, Torre de Belém was the pitstop in Portugal in TAR3 :) But is in fact one of the best places to finish a leg of the race...and it makes sense if they went to Sintra. However, maybe Phil just wanted to visit the city and eat our fantastic Pastéis de Belém that are sold in a shop nearby the Monastery (Mosteiro dos Jerónimos :) )

If the show is filming, Phil doesn't have time to sight see, he's said that himself in one way or another on numerous occasions. He'd be there to either film a location stand-up to introduce the next leg, or a clue marker, or a pit stop. We don't see the pit stop mat, but it is possible that is out of camera view, along with production.

I have tried to find another angle from that site on the exact day as the picture shown, but found no luck.. There was though, one picture with people mingling in the middle of the square but couldn't see much because it's too far and the pixel gets blurred..

Abu Dhabi, is that just a connection point or is that an official leg there?
Have there been any double legs (legs in the same country) outside of Chile?

I tried to follow the timeline, but I am confused by all of this new info.
Thanks to everyone who has made this a fun race to watch live! :)

EDIT: I meant to post this in the speculation and discussion thread. Sorry!

Abu Dhabi (possible one or two, not yet confirmed)

Leg 1 (United States --> Chile) / LAX to Iquique
Leg 2 (Chile) / El bus to Santiago
Leg 3 (Chile --> Portugal) / flight to Lisbon
Leg 4 (Portugal --> Norway) / flight to Svolvaer and possibly into rural area
Leg 5 (Norway --> Poland) / flight to Gdansk
Leg 6 (Poland --> Austria) / flight OR train to Vienna
Leg 7 (Austria --> United Arab Emirates) / flight to Abu Dhabi & desert safari?
Leg 8 (United Arab Emirates) / Abu Dhabi city
Leg 9 (United Arab Emirates --> Indonesia) :res: / flight to Bandung
Leg 10 (Indonesia) / EDIT: Lembang area confirmed by "mellodoo"
Leg 11 (Indonesia --> ??? ) / My speculation lands on Samoa or the Philippines
Leg 12 (??? --> United States) / West Coast (Seattle or SF Bay Area) is an 88% lock

EDIT: It seems like WRP failed again to bring another new country unless my Samoa speculation is correct.

Teams would have arrived on the night of 22 Jun and Phil tweeted about checking-in for his flight out on the morning of 25 Jun. This suggests two days of racing (and two legs), on 23 Jun and 24 Jun.

I edited my quickie summary a short while back but didn't bump it so maybe people haven't seen it, but here it is: http://forum.realityfanforum.com/index.php/topic,28803.msg890121.html#msg890121

I said it was "... and SPECULATED" in underlined letters. There isn't much proof they went anywhere else because then we'd have the evidence in tweet or photo form from a different Middle Eastern country. For now, I'm just specking UAE will provide a city leg and desert leg since in the desert, there isn't phone signal and we haven't seen a single thing other than in the city of Abu Dhabi. Where else could they have gone? Saudi Arabia? :snics:

Amazing Race films in Juneau
Juneau will be featured on the CBS reality TV game show Amazing Race.

Nancy Woizeschke , president and CEO of the Juneau Convention and Visitors Bureau, says the participants and a production crew were here Tuesday.

She says they confirmed talk they heard through the grapevine that the three final teams and a production crew were filming what they believe to be this season's finale.

She says they're told they went home Wednesday morning.

Woizeschke says they were surprised since they weren't contacted for assistance.

But she glad glad Juneau was their choice. Woizeschke says getting the word out about Juneau only helps.

Now that we've got some more location info from IinAlaska !!!

Here's a map.

The red is the taxi from the airport to the Douglas Island boat harbor:   10 miles

The purple is the Jet Boat trip to the Taku River (Taku River Lodge? or Grizzly Bar?)  access to two great glaciers for an ice field task.

The blue is Float Plane from Taku River to Hoonah for the zipline ride.

I marked the spot where this shot was taken:

The Grizzly Bar would be a good choice with the Norris Glacier right behind it.  The Grizzly Bar is a large sand bar also know as the Grizzly flats.  The boats would be able to put racers ashore here and then they would have access to the Norris Glacier.  I know they have dog sled tours on the Norris glacier.    I talked to a person who just returned from the river and he said the Grizzly Bar was completely under water on Thursday.  The Taku River is at flood stage today.  It began to rise on Tuesday afternoon about the time our racers were heading up the river.  Should be some interesting shoots!

Not quite WP!  it's actually the western town set at the Santa Clarita Melody Ranch (studio) where the HBO series Deadwood was shot, and most recently the movie Django Unchained.

it's actually the western town set at the Santa Clarita Melody Ranch (studio) where the HBO series Deadwood was shot, and most recently the movie Django Unchained.

Yeah you got it!

Good spot, Neobie!

That place is close to the French version's first season (Golden Oak Ranch). Looks like a Western movie shooting.

I don't get the big deal. California is a great place with a lot of diversity. Its just a starting line

I don't get the big deal. California is a great place with a lot of diversity. Its just a starting line
I loved starting lines during the early TAR seasons when teams began racing in renowned places with significant statial uniqueness. New York is famous for its beautiful Central Park, Nevada is known for its flat plains and mountainous lands, South Florida is known for the Everglades National Park, teams paid a visit to Santa Monica's infamous amusement pier, Chicago locals know the enormous beauty of Buckingham Fountain, and Gas Works made a rare sighting to see all of downtown Seattle. I miss these types of unique starting lines when it intrigued me to visit there.
Just to name a couple from L.A. County starting lines, TAR16: A random park in New York or Washington could do justice also with a public transportation twist. TAR19: The temple doesn't really make want to visit there although it hints at the Taiwan visit in the first leg. TAR21: Why did they choose that particular bridge? Does it really serve any purpose in defining Los Angeles? TAR22: It's so crowded on the Griffith Observatory roof that Meghan tripped. Although I feel mixed with this starting line, it didn't really make me say, "I want to go there!" As for the film ranch, not excited to see teams start in a random production studio in a random L.A. County city.

Great Salt Lake/Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah (near Salt Lake City Int'l Airport), the Sonoran Desert in Arizona (near Phoenix Sky Harbour Int'l Airport), and the rocket launch pad at NASA (near Houston Intercontinental Airport) would serve as unique starting lines, and there is no fee necessary to enter 2 of 3 of those locations. I'm just disappointed in the people creating the routes that they just choose a start line in L.A. without bothering going anywhere else and go. :(

TAR21: Why did they choose that particular bridge?

Because they knew I would see it while driving around town!   :funny:

I think they've just decided to continue starting in LA because that's where their headquarterd and is home to a major international airport. For spoiler purposes, I'm fine with it. We always get pictures of most of the teams at LAX.

I still want to see a new airport being featured. :( Los Angeles is being completely overused. I want something fresh like starting in the Sonoran Desert and flying to Europe via Phoenix Sky Harbour Int'l Airport. I think what I'm saying is I liked it better when they started at naturally beautiful, unique, and well-renowned locations like the Everglades, Central Park, and the San Gorgonio Wind Turbine Farm rather than local, nonintriguing locations like the Colorado Street Bridge (worst starting location ever, period.), Hacienda Heights's chinese temple, and this season's artificial ghost town. It's simply not the same energy brought out.

This was filmed on the day AFTER the first Pitstop in Iquique, so we are assuming that we will see this in EP 2 before teams travel to Santiago.

Episode 2 will feature an extended task at an abandoned salt mine outside Iquique. We will have lots more info to share before then. :)

Any information how the bike ride Ally & Ashley were shown doing would fit into the Chile legs?
