Bangladesh awards farmer who killed 83,000 rats
By JULHAS ALAM (AP) 1 day ago
DHAKA, Bangladesh Bangladesh on Wednesday awarded a farmer who killed more than 83,000 rats and launched a monthlong campaign nationwide to kill millions more, to protect crops and reduce the need for food imports.
Mokhairul Islam, 40, won a first prize of a color television for killing some 83,450 rats in the past nine months in Gazipur district near the South Asian countrys capital, Dhaka. He collected their tails for proof.
I am so happy to get this honor, Islam told The Associated Press after receiving a 14-inch television and a certificate amid cheers at an official ceremony packed with 500 farmers and officials. I had no idea that the government gives prizes for this.
This is an exciting moment. I will continue to kill them, he vowed.
They show a LOT of caps of that intersection

Wait, there is an intersection this leg? There are 8 teams, so it could work...
Am I the only one who is extremely excited that they're going back to Bangladesh? It delievered an awesome episode in TAR17 and I hope it does this time round as well! I just wish they went somewhere else besides Dhaka :(

But doesn't this look like somebody looking for rats?

The largest outbreak of bubonic plague occurred in England from 1665-1666. It killed up to 100,000 people.
The disease had been found in the Netherlands for some years before the Great Plague, and it is generally thought that it was carried from Holland on ships stocked with bales of cotton. It is thought that rats living inside the bales brought the disease. Strictly speaking, however, rats were not the immediate cause of the plague. Rather, the rodents acted as what is known as a 'vector'. This term describes an organism which does not actually carry a disease, but rather spreads infection by carrying bacterial causes of a disease.
It would be awesome to have a fast forward this early!!

Well I agree Chateau........I dont know why anyone would have a stick in their hand on a cotton grading table unless they were expecting "something" to run out of the pile. It is not as if the raw cotton is going to attack them. Plus it looks like the short dude is "herding" something toward the tall dude. The tall dude is ready to hit something coming out of the pile of cotton.

Why did I get a zillion shots of that? And why are the Truckers and the Twins on a boat anyway? ???
Inquiring minds want to know! :lol3:
Traveling to Bangladesh was an overwhelmingly eye opening and sense rattling experience that I will never forget. More than any other country I have...ever visited, I will forever remember the sights, sounds and smells of the capital city, Dhaka. Being the 8th most populous country in the world, and one of the highest population densities, the destitute, poverty, and filth that piled up in main streets, behind central buildings and country roads, was troubling and incredible all the same. Lacking common societal attributes that we are used to here at home, including street signals, paved roads, flushing toilets, air conditioning, and even clean water meant shock and awe throughout our short time there. But in stark contrast to the unsanitary and polluted environment the people were warm, kind, thoughtful and helpful. We felt equally safe and comforted within the community of people we met and traveled amongst. To communicate our immediate impressions accurately you could say Dhaka as a city was hell on earth but the people, the culture the community itself was the polar opposite.
Peach, I was confused as to where you had found Ryan's insightful comments when I went to his blog and couldn't find an entry there (Surabaya was the last blog entry.) I then realized that he must have had a Facebook entry (with a link from his website) and I found it there.
For everybody else's benefit the url is https://www.facebook.com/theryandanz (https://www.facebook.com/theryandanz). And I agree, Ryan's written comments insights have been among the best I've seen out of 21 seasons of Racers.
