Hi Everyone! Did you get a chance to see Episode 2 of this season? We are here, ready to chat and interested in your thoughts!  Let's start with...
Ernie Says: What about that first challenge? What a waste of time that was! That one is up for the running for "most useless challenge in TAR history". Competing with our challenge in Indonesia where we were bike cops. What did you think?

Hi guys!!

We knew from spoilers that there was a possibilty of "bull-racing", but I was ultimately disappointed in this one! Remember Tian being dragged by the bull thru the mud?? Now that was a "bull racing" task that took courage! This was a bit of a let down, but perhaps the real deal was thought to be too dangerous??

We would have like to have seen them have to decide whether they'd race on the bull or on the bike. One of the things Ernie thought was that the teams could go in "heats" and the winner of that heat would move on to the roadblock. Then the next "heat" would go, so on and so forth. But the challenge here was just getting to that number. Everyone left in the same order they took numbers so there was no suspense in this task.  We heard that between #1 and #7 was an hour and half, so basically the task just paced the teams out.

Hi Ernie and Cindy! :waves:

I thought the bull-racing task was also a waste of time. You didn't even have to finish faster than the bull to get the clue! It wasn't even a race.

What do we think about the team that was ultimately eliminated? Amy & Daniel were such a strong and inspiring team. They were almost 1st place in the first leg, and to drop so far behind after leaving the bulls 2nd was disappointing.  Do you like that cab drivers should have so much control over the team's fate? Or do you think Amy & Daniel should have left the taxi for another one that knew where they were going?

Amy & Daniel's elimination was surprising. They had the potential to go so far. :( I guess it shows how much luck is involved in this race. I probably would have switched taxi driver.

What the heck were the monster truck drivers doing on a separate flight from everyone else? Did they think they would get to Indonesia faster?  This early in the race, it doesn't make much sense to separate yourselves from the pack. You'll eventually meet up with every other team and so it's a risk that is unnecessary at this point.

This is similar to the time we were in Indonesia on our way to Thailand. Andy & Tommy, Zach & Lawrence got on the flight that departed earlier, but had 2 lay overs and ultimately ended up arriving in Phuket hours behind the rest of the teams.  But it didn't even make a difference because all of the teams started on the speed boats at the exact same time the next day.

If you have a bad cab driver, you have to switch it. If you feel like you're going in the wrong direction, you have to get out and find it yourself. So many teams think the drivers know where to go when sometimes they have no idea how to decipher the clue.  Amy & Daniel finished the bulls 2nd - but came in last, which was several hours behind twinnies. They must have been lost for more than 2 or 3 hours. in all that time, they could have asked to go to a hotel to use the internet!

There was one time where sticking with our cab paid out - when we were in Panama on the way to the Pit Stop. He was persistent in telling us he know where to go, he knows where the pit stop was. We had to trust him, because we sure didn't know!

Amy & Daniel's elimination was surprising. They had the potential to go so far. :( I guess it shows how much luck is involved in this race. I probably would have switched taxi driver.

Reading Amy's interviews, I think they did try mutiple cabs...but I love the self driving and the times where y'all used local transport the best!

Would you have a liked a race where taxis were not allowed?/

Hi guys!

Yes, I agree with you.  Doesn't seem too smart to separate from the pack.  They'd got lucky - as the guys in your season - that there was an HoO (Hours of Operations), other way - with a night leg - they would probably be eliminated even before reach the bull race.

I read where they switch cabs twice - so they had three cab drivers - said they lost over 4 hours on the cabs, and exhausted most of their funds.

Did you two make good use of the internet on researching your flights - connections/arrival times?

We heard this was challenging to find the motor place, since there were several car-type-operations with the same name.  It always LOOKS easier on TV than it actually is! Plus, when you are racing, you're so stressed out and not thinking straight!

I really wished we could watch Amy & Daniel more. There are other teams that aren't as interesting to watch.

Taxi's are a huge part of the show, we like that you have to interact with the locals and there's a sense of luck or fate involved when picking a driver.  It wouldn't be the same show if you drove yourselves everywhere.

In Atlanta, we said we didn't want an older driver.... we THOUGHT the young drivers would be faster and more aggressive.  We couldn't get anyone to take us and finally went with the older gentleman. It was the best decision we made because he knew all of the roads like the back of his hand, he was so kind and patient with us and ultimately was a huge part of our success. Thanks Ben!!  :hrt:  :keeta:

That sounds a lot like Andy & Tommy from our season in Panama. They kept switching cabs and spending their money. The money provided for each leg doesn't get you too far - just enough for you to make minor mistakes. But if you ride around town for hours, you're going to spend your whole budget and end up walking 4 hrs like the twins Liz and Marie from our season (in Bangkok).

We used the internet as much as we could. Some places didn't have as much availability as others, but the internet literally has everything now! It's best to get the flight that LANDS first, not the one that DEPARTS first.

It seems like in the later seasons, that every leg starts off with some sort of 'equalizer' where all teams start the leg around the same time. This allows teams in the back to catch up and have a chance to win.  It wouldn't be fun if the first place team started accumulating hours of lead time! There would be no suspense or drama!

I am so sad that we did not get to see more of Amy and Daniel, she is incredibly inspiring and they both seem like genuinely nice people. I would have loved to see them race further!! :hrt:

You two had an awesome driver in ATlanta. I know EXACTLY the challenges of that day  and since I-85 was shut down at the crucial time...he did a truly amazing job at navigating thru and around the blockages!!

It could happened to you and Amani & Marcus if Jeremy & Sandy's cab driver didn't tell yours where to go.  And Jeremy & Sandy suffered that on Atlanta.
That is a classic of TAR.  One of the thing that remains the same through the seasons.

We were so lucky that our cab drivers were talking to the other cab drivers in Panama, otherwise, we would have been in even more trouble.  We tried to get our cab driver to take us back to the dancers in the square but he was insisting that he knew exactly where we were going and would not take us back to the square. We had a language barrier and couldn't totally understand what was going on. We had to trust the taxis and it was a time we really lucked out.  Luck is a huge part of the game.  Who knows what would have happened if our taxi drivers weren't talking. We probably would have gone back to the dancers, we may or may not have beat Andy & Tommy to the mat.  It's too tough to say because you never know what can happen.

The absolute worst situation was when we were going from Copenhagen to Brussels. We had an almost 4 hour lead, then we all had to take the same train from Hamburg to Brussels!  The whole lead was wiped out, and winning the leg all came down to the "muscles in Brussels" challenge... and we had to endure that whole 'lost ticket' situation which was stressful enough!  It's really discouraging when you reach an 'equalizer' because all that time you worked to gain gets wiped out in a moment.

Talking about Indonesian cab driver....How's your cab driver when you were in Indonesia? Did you guys suffered the same problem (lost and no direction)? Or any other teams in your season did? :js:

Hello Indonesia!

We had an awesome cab driver in Indonesia! For Leg 2 when we were in Yogyakarta, Heru met us at the train station, then came back to pick us up at 7am in the morning to take us to the cave, Goa Jablong. We only got lost a little when we were following Marcus & Amani's taxi and Bill & Cathi beat us to the cave, but otherwise, he was right on track with everywhere we needed to go. He was a total rock star and while we were off doing a task, he would look up where the next location was and call all of his friends to find out where to go.

Our driver on Leg 3 at Borobudur our taxi driver was also good - a little more quiet and didn't "fist pump" with us, but he got us everywhere we needed to go and was very kind to wait for us while Ernie counted the Buddhas.  We were definitely lucky!

We'd love to come back to Indonesia. where should we visit? What are the best places for us to see?

You could kind of tell what was coming, and what type of task it might be.  There were a couple of times where Ernie probably should have taken the task (the caving) but he had broken his tibia, fractured vertically and just had screws put in, so we thought it would be better for Cindy to go into the cave. It might have been better for Cindy to do the dancing, but Ernie did such a great job at it anyway.

We had prepared so much prior to the race that we knew each other's strengths. If we could decipher the clue, we would know immediately who should do the roadblock.

How did you all decide which Detours to do based on the info at hand? What would lead you to do one over the other?

Based solely on what we have seen in the first two eps....do you have a team or two that seem to "have it together"??  One that seems to have the potential to deal with all the challenges and the stress and yet keep a clear mind??

Based only on what we have seen so far here are the teams we think are strong:
Trey & Lexi are developing a system of what's working for them. They seem to be having fun and know how to work together. Plus, they're fit, young and agile. The only thing that they'll have to learn to overcome quickly is traveling abroad. We heard this was their first time out of the US!

Ryan & Abbie seem strong as well. They have great chemistry together and are able to work well with each other. They have a little more street smarts and have life experiences. Their challenge is that they might be a little too aggressive and I can see some teams maybe ganging up on them later on.

Who do you think has the right combo to win this season?

Glad to hear that! I think compared to your season, Yogyakartans taxi driver are better than Surabayans taxi driver.. Just my opinion ;D Anyway I read somewhere that mentioned Ethan and Jenna were having a bad time in Leg 2 because of their taxi driver were really slow and it leads them to their elimination. Is that true? :js:

Anyway, if Im not mistaken, you guys lost your train ticket from Hamburg to Brussels, right? How did that happen? And how did you guys handle it?

There a lot of place to visit here in Indonesia. If you like to go island hopping, I would suggest you to go to Komodo Island and Raja Ampat. Komodo Island is located in East Nusa Tenggara Province and Raja Ampat located in West Papua. they have beautiful beaches! Plus you can meet the giant lizard, Komodo, in Komodo Island. And if you like to go to mountanious area, you can go to Mount Bromo, in Malang-East Java (TAR 21 should've visited there because it's close from Surabaya and had a really great view!) #justsayin

Ethan and Jenna had some trouble with the taxi, yes, that's true.

But the real issue in that leg was that we all missed the sign to donate all of our remaining money to the orphanage.  8 of 11 teams missed this! It was such a debacle at the Pit Stop.  If E&J had read the sign and gave all of their money, they would have been in 4th place.

As for the lost ticket, it was the most stressful time for Cindy. We dropped the ticket in the office when they wouldn't help us get on a better train. We didn't realize it until a few hours later when the office was closed and we couldn't get back in to find our ticket. Then, to re-purchase the ticket was too much money which we didn't have. Cindy was begging for money from the Germans to help raise some funds. In the end, our first train to Amsterdam (where there was a transfer) was almost 2 hrs late and the entire group missed the connecting train. Therefore, per the rules, we were allowed to purchase new tickets for Amsterdam-Brussels.  We weren't stow-aways, we were allowed to purchase new tickets!  Everything worked out in our favor!

Yes! We keep in contact with all of the other teams in our season. We all watched the finale together, and many of them made it to our wedding. We keep in touch most with Justin, Jennifer, Ron & Bill and the Twins. Ernie just went to Utah with Andy and Cindy visited Tommy in Colorado when she was there for work.  We also talk to Marcus & Amani when they have time between running their kids to all their activities!  Bill & Cathi sent us a sweet card for our wedding, Sandy is coming to Chicago in late November... so yes, we all keep in touch :) like one little family!

Who do you think has the right combo to win this season?

I personally like Twinnies, Trey/Lexi, Abbie/Ryan and Chippendales. I think they have what it take to win the race...or at least to go further in this season.

we also hope they show Brittany & Cait more... and more Twinnies!!!  But yes, Beekmans would be interesting so I hope they get more airtime. Also, Chippendales seem funny but we need more back story on them!

Yes, leg 2 pit stop was a chaos! I can really feel how all teams are such in a rush and didn't read the additional info. It was a really unexpected moment for me.

Wow you guys were very lucky then!  :hearts:

Of course!! :lol3: :lol3: But seriously, they're the reason why I watch this season. I believe if Amy/Dan are still in the race, they would be on my list too!

And   at Cathi! I remember and she's really a tough woman!

Aaaaaaahhhh! I caught you guys this time! :yess:
Thanks for posting here, Ernie/Cindy! I was rooting for y'all so hard and am really glad y'all won season 19! Also congrats on getting married! Hope everything's going well with you two!

Some questions:
1) TAR 21 related. What do y'all think of the Beekman boys very UTR (under the radar) edit this season, well so far anyway? They were shown in the season preview (well Brent was) celebrating after the ice detour, but in last night's episode they were barely shown doing the detour... and they had some random comments in the RB.

2) Personal, to Cindy. I think most people here have seen your McDonald's commercial. Was it a good experience? And would you mind telling us how you got the gig?

Now let me catch up to your initial responses (hope my questions weren't redundant... :-[)!

Who do you think has the right combo to win this season?

I like the NaNagoddesses and Longhorns. So glad they got 1st and 2nd this leg. The NaNas are pretty consistent so far (finishing in the top 5 both legs), whilst the Longhorns only finished in the bottom last leg because they were in a later flight.

I also like the Beekmans because: in leg 1 they were in the second flight but still managed to finish 7th (and to add to that, they were shown in last through the two roadblocks but got extremely lucky with the abacus lady!). While in this leg they were mysteriously fifth after probably finishing probably 8th in the roadblock. They need a better edit.

Ryan/Abbie seems like a good team but Ryan just grates on me the wrong way. I didn't watch him in the Apprentice: Martha Stewart but I guess it seems he's always been that way? :duno:

Rob/Kelly are hilar.

Hi! Thanks for joining us!!! Thanks so much for rooting for us!

Ernie: For me personally, the Beekman boys weren't really in the front of the pack or back of the pack, so you're not going to see them much. They didn't even show the Twinnies or Brittany/Cait do the bulls at all! There are still too many teams and they have to stick to the main storyline.  As long as you're in, you still got a shot!
Cindy: I hope the Beekmans start making some stand-out decisions or coming to the front of the pack so we can see more of them and get a better idea of who they are. They seem funny together and they also seem like they are racing a bit carefree, just enjoying the scenery.

Hahahahahah for the McDonalds ad (how embarrassing) how did y'all find it?!

I used to be an actor/commercial model before getting on TAR so I had a few agents. One of them booked me for that gig. I learned all about making egg mcmuffins and Caesar salads!  It's pretty fun to play around in their test kitchen!! I had a great time on that shoot!  Now that we've done race, my face is too recognizable for me to do any of the commercials or catalog modeling... but not recognizable enough to get endorsements or anything. SO my agents told me they couldn't represent me anymore.  I wish I could do more, since I really enjoy it! Maybe in a year or two when everyone forgets I was on the race :)
