The late application closing date is due to Grant Bowler working on the new Syfy series Defiance, he has been cast as the main character Jeb Bolan, the central figure and focus of the series essentially.
Filming began on this in April, but it can take many months to make a tv show, I heard it'l be 13 episodes?
Depending on how successful the show is, and if it gets picked up for more episodes if Season 2 occurs, could mean that Grant will have to either work The Amazing Race into his schedule after filming each season(More likely), or someone else being brought in to replace him as Host.
I don't think this will have a major effect on Season 3, but could on Season 4 onwards if it occurs. Grant will be free to do the Season in the near future.
-
If it's a Syfy series, it'll be very time-consuming to film. Don't forget also he was doing that film with Lindsay Lohan at the same time.

Interesting, thanks! His career could be going in a whole different direction now...

Where can i watch season 2, it is not on youtube???????????????????
-
I saw the TV ad calling for auditions and noticed, aside from the fact that it featured entirely season 2 footage, that it showed Michelle and Jo performing a firewalking task which I guess is from the unaired Indian detour.... funn factz
-
Can you or anyone snag with a vid camera or cellphone and post it? Would love to see!!

So guys...
what happened with all those applications that already submitted according to the date earlier in this thread (Oct, 2012? )
as we know that they open an entirely new registration account for those who'd like to apply up until December 2013...

Deadline has been extended to the 22nd of Dec, so you have two more days to get those apps in!
-
Just watched the latest ep of US season 23 on the 26th of December and in the ad break they were still advertising for racers for the next Aus Race, so maybe they have extended it again (although the application form still states a cut off date of Dec 22th).
-
Wow. They are still airing TARUS23. That's why I watch online on the same day. Watching on 7 is such a pain in the (censored)
I doubt that they extended the application due date again.
-
Well as I said, they were still advertising for racers on the 26th, so if they hadn't extended it again it seems quite a slip up to keep asking for teams to enter.
Watching on 7 isn't a pain...if we didn't watch on 7 then it wouldn't get ratings (down here in Aus) and they then wouldn't show it, and then they wouldn't commission an Aus version...pretty straight forward to me.
-
They show the US version at 10:30. It isn't going to rate well. The local version does rate well because we aren't overloaded with TAR for 3/4ths of the year. (Saying that I don't mind being over loaded with TAR)

A little birdie told me casting is well underway and interviews are this week.

I think he's making a reference to the American Family Edition (Season Eight), in which the contestants were too young to leave the country.

That's true but we've had contestants on the American edition that are over 18 but below 21 who have left the country...

Those were exceptions with some sort of celebrity status (KevinJumba, Caite the beauty queen etc...) so they probably thought it was worth the effort to pay that much more to cover their travel insurance. They wouldn't do it with everyday people.
-
That's true, but I can't imagine the difference would be so large (considering the fact that they're unlikely to cast more than 2 teams of that age group at most on any given season)... ???
-
I can't comment on the celebrity status, or what the typically age restricts on international travel are in AUS/NZL, but I know you can't do many things in the USA and a lot of Western Hemisphere nations unless you are at least 20. There's probably also a lot of legal things that go into the planning with all the different regulations that require you to be 21 (i.e. waivers and stuff, no?)
Just speculating - GOOD LUCK if anyone from down under is submitting!! Watching season 2 only reaffirmed my LOVE of Australian accents and culture. Can't get enough of that sheer positivity, Americans need more of it.
-
Australia doesn't really have a singular culture :P
(Or a singular accent for that matter  )
-
I'd be universally despised if I ever got on. :funny:

That was a really cool thing to see too - I had no idea the areas of Australia were so diverse - love it! And yeah, some accents were similar to other teams, then one or two contestants I was like "wait, are you British?..." and others I couldn't tell they had an accent different from us Americans at all.
