PAUL & STEVE, work mates from Victoria
“We work for a road building company but he’s the accountant and I get my hands dirty,” Steve said.
Even though the furthest they’ve travelled together is ‘down the road to get lunch’, these unlikely teammates are in the race to win.
“We’re here to be number one and if that involves burning another team then so be it,” Steve said.

Paul & Steve (VIC) Official TARAUS Website Bio
These workmates from Victoria spend their days together and share a ruthless competitive edge, but that’s where the similarities end.
“We work for a road building company, but he’s the accountant and I get my hands dirty,” explains Steve, who works with the company’s construction contractors.
Even though the furthest they’ve travelled together is “down the road to get lunch”, these unlikely teammates are in the race to win.
“I used to be an overweight kid,” explains Paul. “I grew up being bullied, then I got into bodybuilding. So I will be testing my results in a competitive environment.”
Paul says his physical transformation is his proudest achievement. “I’d like to show that the kid that got bullied can stand up for himself.”
“I would describe myself as motivated, powerful and intelligent,” says Paul.
“And intense and arrogant!” adds Steve with a laugh.
“Perceived arrogance,” corrects Paul.
“We are here to be number one and if that involves burning another team then so be it,” says Steve, the more laidback half of this partnership.
Paul adds, “I’m not preparing a departure speech because I’m going to be winning this race.

Is Paul really Asian? He does look like but he looks like a normal Aussie folks 2. :hearts:
Whatever I support him, beside his alpha male characteristics...
-
I know he's supposed to be the villain and what not but I'm starting to get fed up with Paul already.
If that was what he wanted people to feel about him surely he accomplished it.
I find it hard to believe anyone would look at him and see someone attractive but hey, that's just me I guess.
I was very surprised when Steve nodded happily in agreement when Paul stated he was the masterbrain of their team (or whatever) but in retrospect I don't know why this would surprise me, since Steve chose to be on the show with him.
That should tell us enough.
Also, their 'good guy/bad guy' tactics clearly failed from day one since Paul has been in everyone's face about his personality and strategy, so, yeah I guess it fits his deluded ideas about himself all the way. :duno:
Sorry if I sound harsh, I know it's just a show. But people like that, whether it's exaggerated, out of context, a plant or whatever - they just annoy me to no end. Just go already and give this spot to some interesting people that can use the money and that are pleasant to root for.. :gaah:

A question: did this U-Turned team get the best rank in a single U-Turn leg in TAR history?

If my memory serves me right, they are the only team to survive a single U-Turn

Well..actually all the teams that were U-Turned in any episodes of TAR Israel 2 survived too.
-
I get the feeling that they will be the victims of every single Voting U-Turn... Let's just hope that there are lots of Voting U-Turns!!!

A question: did this U-Turned team get the best rank in a single U-Turn leg in TAR history?
Nope, Alon & Oren got vote U-turned in HaMerotz LaMillion 2 and still won the leg.

I feel like last episode was Steve's time to shine. He's definitely the better half of this team (and really hot).
Paul is just an arrogant douchebag and Steve is strong, proud, and silent (like his refusal to give up in the first leg during the raft building challenge while Paul was whining and wanting to quit). Steve also seems friendly with other teams (sharing flight info last episode) where Paul is just rude to everyone.
I hope there is some weird twist where their team is split and Paul gets eliminated and Steve gets to run the race alone.

Are you kidding me? I guess I'm not sure what level of detail I'm allowed to go into in this thread (for spoilers) but last night's episode was Paul's time to shine, he rocked at least 2 of the 3 challenges even though he was continually being ostracised and accused by the other teams
-
Poor Paul...he is totally traumatized :'( He must have been ultra bullied , that's why he is so defensive.

Rule of thumb regarding spoilers: If it's something you know only because of the spoiler threads, don't say it anywhere else, don't even hint toward it.
But regarding Paul, I definitely feel for him with the bullying. Now I don't feel like what we were shown from Grace was really bullying, I understand why it bothers him so much.
-
But just because he's been bullied, that doesn't give him a reason to act so... lkasdjflajsdklfjadslfkads to everyone else. :res:

I hate Paul's arrogance, whether he can back it up or not, or if he had a "traumatic" childhood. :gaah:

Well Paul hates bullies, so to defend himself against bullies, he decides to bully people. :res:
At least that's my opinion of the situation...

Paul is determined. He is not a bully. If he is, then Colton Cumbie is Diablo.

Who has Paul bullied, really?
-
Who has Paul bullied, really?
THIS! How does not speaking to someone who is bothering you count as bullying, exactly?
-
Well perhaps bullying is too strong a word, but from what we've seen on screen, he's put no effort into mingling with the other teams in any way and shown no interest in getting to know them. Perhaps we're just getting the worst of him on editing, but I can comment only on what I've seen.

This irks me in real life, some people are not social butterflies, some people are shy, some people prefer to keep to themselves, some people find it hard to make conversation or small talk and some people are naturally quiet. Life is not often easy for these people but change can be difficult or even not wanted. Oftentimes you have to accept people for who they are and respect their life choices, it is NOT ok to go and talk smack about someone because they aren't normal or don't choose to live their life the way you choose to live yours.
This is nothing against you personally "racer", I just thought I should point out that a more reserved lifestyle is in no way akin to bullying. In a social context, a person is under no obligation to talk to anyone, they can choose to and conversely they can choose not to, either way their decision should be respected.
-
It's not that he hasn't mingled, but he has also been bragging how better he is at everything and how he is an alpha male. Bragging alone can also put someone's feelings down. This is the one reason I hate Paul for making others feel not as good. This would be the answer to "Who has Paul really bullied?"

the good thing is most of the bragging incident is either in their confessional or just between him and Steve. He is just too confident of their team that some people mght be misunderstanding them. They chose not to mingle to other teams because they are here to race not to mingle. All of this could be their style of racing. Editing made a big role for them to look too villanious but i think they are not really like thats.

Yeah, and that description you gave fits me as well, and I definitely would keep to myself a lot on the race as well. But you can't complain about 'bullying' if you are willingly and voluntarily excluding yourself... :res:

In my opinion, Paul is way worse than Art & JJ (together!). He's WAY too cocky and aggressive for his own good (and everyone else's ). Every time it's, "Oh, we'll just stomp all over everyone. We don't care," and it's just so annoying. :res: I also didn't like how Paul got frustrated at Steve for "sharing information" at the airport. The least of his troubles is sharing flight information that everyone else already knows. Steve is making an attempt to get other teams to like them (or him) more so they'll be less inclined to vote U-Turn them, which is much wiser than Paul's, "Oh we'll just beat them all. Who cares about them, stop talking to them," tactic. Paul's certainly not making any friends or allies with his ignoring everyone tactic.
There's obviously a reason some teams didn't like them Paul on the race. :res:

I thought Steve's choice to share flight information was the smarter move for 2 reasons. The first is the reason you listed: making people less inclined to U-Turn (or Yield) them. The other reason: You want to have at least one other team on your flight just in case any thing goes wrong with connections or other delays. That way you always have a shot at "not last."
-
But Paul isn't being a jerk to people, when he says that he's smarter than everyone it's during confessionals.
-
Yet he also says in confessionals that he needs to prove and back up that he is smart by performing well at roadblocks. You would only need to back up that you are smart by bragging about being smart. Hence, he has told others that he is really smart.

I really haven't seen him bragging to other racers at all. I think he means to prove and back up what he says to the tv audience. He is on national TV after all. ;)

I wouldn't think he needs to do that. Plus, there has to be something they are doing to make 6 other teams vote for them in Voting U-Turn in Dubai

Then how do all the other teams know that he's bragging? ???
-
I have to admit, I've been warming up to them. Paul was really, REALLY arrogant and annoying at the start, but he's slackened off and he has started to enjoy the race. This is a side of Paul unlike Normal Paul, Evil Paul and Sexy Paul, and this Paul is quite nice. Steve was always pretty fine.
-
Honestly, there are some reasons why we're warming up to Paul [ including me ] ;
-He's always in 1st so he's happy :res:
-He's getting somewhat less screentime.. but also less interaction with teams.
So yeah...
-
Then how do all the other teams know that he's bragging? ???
I wonder if the U-Turn vote was due to Kym telling the other racers that Paul is dirty, after the whole thing with his backpack knocking down the pots. That's the only thing that I can think of, that would cause other racers not to like him. Before that, I could only understand why the viewers may not like him.
At this point, Paul is looked upon as the lesser of 2 evils, when compared to DisGrace. Much lesser!
-
Some interesting things came up last night. I managed to have a good chat with Paul about his time on the race.
- He knew that as a competitive person, he was likely to be portrayed as a villain (Richard and Joey didn't) he has chosen to embrace that instead of trying to push it away.
- He claimed that he barely nudged Grace, but because of the weight difference it put her off balance. According to him she went down to one knee, but that was it.
- Kym and Donna were aware that they probably wouldn't have had enough pots had the backpack incident not occurred, but Donna was certain that Paul did it deliberately. "What you didn't see was he picked up his backpack and put it on first before he nudged the cart with it."
- Paul is pretty cool when there's not a competition attached, although he did seem to want to play up his villain status during question time. He did say he found it weird that people were treating them like celebrities.
-
Do you think there's any doubt about who the winner team will be?
-

They gave away nothing to do with results. Current form would indicate Paul and Steve, but that didn't work for Eric and Jeremy.
