Title: Which Non-Elimination Penalty would you prefer?
Post by: balfour on February 03, 2012, 12:58:31 AM
Let's say that you're a racer who came in last on a non-elimination leg, and had a choice of the penalty. Which would you choose?

I think all of your possessions taken is more of a incentive than a penalty!  :lol3: :lol3:

I prefer the 30-minute penalty unless they come in 1st.

SpeedBumps are a bad joke! MFEs are the least bad alternative.

Why? I find Speed bumps are harder, because you have no control. At least with MFE, all you need to do is just be like 35 minutes in front of another team and you survive...

I like Speedbump, but not with the ridiculous task like unkink the rope or sitting in the ice or like that. The Speedbump task should be like solving the puzzle in Malawi or serving the holy water in India or doing yoga

As a racer, I'd say having my money taken. This sort-of gets into the metagame of TAR, but given the prevalence of bunching through nonstandard pit stops designed to get teams on the same flight(s) out, I'd probably be able to get enough money to get by until the next destination.

As a viewer, extra tasks have the potential to be interesting (holy water in India, dancing in Russia).

I like the MFE better. It adds a whole new level of stress to the race. I don't see that in Speed Bumps.

I prefer the original approach. No penalty at all. (An option not offered in the poll.)

They should have kept the marked for elimination penalty longer than two seasons. I like it, and it seems to work in the foreign editions. The problem with the penalty is that the legs aren't always designed with them in mind, sometimes having an intersection in that leg or bunching toward the end.

I like the no cash but you still have bags penalty the best.(Its mean but not as mean as taking their bags)
The MFE is also a good penarlty (works very well in TAR AU and TARA)
The speed-bump is good some legs but in other legs its a joke.

I think any racer would prefer that, so I didn't think to put it as an option.

I personally enjoy the speed bump over MFEs. What people often overlook is the possible travel in big cities that could slow teams down more than the actual task.

what about performing both detour or both team members will perform a road block task on the next leg?

Well, it's not just Racers who would prefer it.

I can't stand Speed Bumps to be honest. It feels like most of them are brainstormed on the fly. I personally would like to see No Penalty or MFE. MFE just makes sense and is the most "fair" way to penalize a team for coming in last on an NEL. There are times where it's pretty evident that Speed Bumps aren't difficult.

I wish the speed bumps are executed very well. I prefer the "Long Way Round" idea of Dom though. Because it's more of a luck based.

What about elimination if not 1st, 2nd or 3rd?

Let's add sitting in a sauna for 5 minutes to the list of ridiculous speed bump tasks.
