So, the new season has started not so long ago, and will visit 3 countries: South Korea, Philippines and Australia. It's going to be called Pékin Express : le Passager mystčre (the mystery passenger), because in some times during the race, teams will have to travel with a tv host from M6 (Sandrine Corman, Stéphane Plaza (those two already participated to the vip season), Faustine Bollaert, Alex Goude, Mac Lesggy).
And finally, the best for the end, it will be an All-Star season!! :hearts:

I think it will be a great season. I am not surprised that the belgians brother came back, they made a very good season last year and they lose at the last part of the final leg.

Belgium's version of 'Amazing Race' films in PHL
By ROWENA JOY A. SANCHEZJanuary 19, 2012,

‘Peking Express’ will feature various tourist spots in the PhilippinesMANILA, Philippines – The Philippines is fast becoming a shooting destination for international entertainment projects, the latest of which is “Peking Express,” considered as the Belgian counterpart of the hit US reality show “The Amazing Race.”

Shortly after cameras rolled in Manila for the Hollywood spy thriller “The Bourne Legacy,” and “American Idol” singer-songwriter David Archuleta started shooting for the TV5 mini-series “Nandito Ako,” a contingent of 61 crew members and talents has flown into the country to shoot five out of 12 episodes of “Peking Express,” reported Interaksyon.com.

Shooting for “Peking Express” is scheduled from Jan. 18 to Feb. 2.

The contestants—composed of eight French couples—will traverse various tourist sites in Luzon. According to Interaksyon, the itinerary “is expected to go through Manila-Bagac-Cervantes-Bontoc-Angeles-Pinatubo Volcano-Quezon-Candelaria-Talisay,” and back to the country’s capital.

The show, which began in 2004 and already in its seventh season, sends couples to hitchhike from one country to another, testing their skills and spirit as teams while learning about a culture different from their own. Competition in the current season began in Seoul, South Korea, and will culminate in Sydney, Australia.

As part of the challenge, each of the contestants are given merely one euro a day (about P56 pesos as of this writing), and must devise resourceful plans in order for them to reach their destinations and fulfill their tasks, with the production team following their quest.

One team will be eliminated per episode until two couples remain to battle it out in the finale.

“Peking Express” has also been adapted in other European territories such as Germany, Scandinavia, France, and Spain.

OMG they are spoiling the entire route :cmas18
And they're saying eight couples; so this probably means they eliminated two teams in South Korea (if it's like the other seasons of course, which had 10 teams)

The host of Pékin Express, Stéphane Rotenberg, is injured during the filming of the race. He was the victim of a side car accident and he got a trausma head, leg bruise and wounds on her face. He is safe and the filming is stopping. Some informations here: http://www.purepeople.com/article/stephane-rotenberg-victime-d-un-accident-de-la-route-dans-pekin-express_a94840/1

Thanks for the information, jmv1986! It's a big help.  :tu  Your friend probably saw the Belgium version of The Amazing Race, which we know from newspaper articles is filming at various places in the Philippines through Feb 2nd. The Norwegian Amazing Race was in Macau a few days ago and could possibly be headed to the Philippines, but they could be going almost anywhere.

Welcome to RFF!

I think this is TAR Belgium. I can't match up the teams in the pictures with the TAR Norwegian teams in this message:

pic 2 is Ludovic from Ludovic & Samuel from PÉ6
pic 1 & 4, I would think it's Frédéric & Jessica from PÉ5 or maybe Jacky & Alexia from PÉ4?
pic 3, beside the red car, maybe it's Marcelle & Nicole from PÉ4 but I'm not shure, but it's definitely a F/F team

Here's a couple of real time tweets from a couple of people who see some filming in the Makati area of Manila RIGHT NOW. To be more precise one says she sees them in the Ayala Triangle area which appears to be a public garden near the highrise area. The other one doesn't say where she is.

I believe that flag has the logo used on Pekin Express. Also, there is at least one racer wearing a backpack in the background.

The metal structure in the background with low triangular pyramids can be seen in this panoramic view:

Yet another sighting in Manila:

jude defensor @judefensor
Kinda dissapointingly ironic to be checking into the Peninsula now that the Bourne crew has checked out! Rotten timing!

jude defensor @judefensor
...and just as I was whining about missing the Bourne gang, I bump into the cast & crew of the French Amazing Race!

I'm assuming from the timing that he saw the cast and crew at the Peninsula Hotel. I believe the next in the series of Jason Bourne movies has been shooting in the Philippines and that is what he is referring to as the Bourne Gang and Crew.

The Peninsula Hotel is about 400-500 meters away from where they were shooting, so if the Ayala Triangle was the pit stop, the Peninsula would be a likely place to have everybody stay. Though, as a 5 star hotel, it probably isn't cheap to stay there. In that case, he could have dropped his bags in his room and left the hotel and seen them in the park.

Well there's Ludovic & Samuel from PÉ6, and maybe Marcelle & Nicole (doing the confessionnal?) and Jacky & Alexia from PÉ4, who all seem to have survived through the penultimate Philippine leg.

From the news stories, this is supposed to be the last day of filming in the Philippines and I believe they are headed for Australia, so it makes sense they would be filming somewhere in Manila today as the first part of the leg before they leave the country.

OK, I have some good news and bad news. The day before yesterday I found some tweets that indicated where Pekin Express was filming in Las Pinas (put a ~ over the n) about 8 hours or so before they were seen in Ayala Triangle:

I did some research on Sarao Motors and found out that it's a factory in Las Pinas that makes jeepneys, the colorful small buses that provide local public transportation in much of the Philippines. I also found about 165 pictures taken during the setup of the leg and while the teams were running the leg. An absolutely amazing find! This is the good news. Now for the bad news. Unfortunately, I was at work and couldn't deal with that volume of data. So, I recruited a couple of helpers, who also proved to be at work or otherwise busy. By the time we were able to tackle grabbing all the pictures, they had been taken down.  :gaah: We did end up with 5 pictures that I'll post below, but what we didn't get was MUCH MUCH more interesting. I feel kind of bad, because that was about the best find I've made here for RFF and I let it get away. I dropped the ball when I didn't try getting some of the best ones when I had the chance after work.

Anyway, from the evidence in the pictures, the race was down to four teams at this point. The jeepney construction yard was set up with a number of items like old tires and colored ropes were threaded around, under and through the items. One person from each team appeared to be following the ropes over obstacles that included at least one teeter totter like board. Whether they were threading a ring along the rope or trying to unsnarl and free their color rope (red, green, blue and yellow I think), I couldn't say. The person doing the task was also carrying a big sponge for some reason. After they finished that, they moved back towards the entrance to the yard and helped push a jeepney out into the yard where a large crowd of people climbed on board, filling it to capacity and then some. Each team appeared to hop on to the back of the jeepney and hung on as the jeepney left the factory for some unknown location. The camera and sound guys followed as passengers on motor scooters being driven by local drivers.

The pictures we got are from the setup before the leg. I will mention that there were 4 or 5 pictures that appeared to show debris high in the air. I'm guessing those were balloons or kites over the yard. Whether they factored into the task, I don't know.

I think I've found a couple of sightings of Pekin Express south of Brisbane, Australia on Facebook. I'm a bit puzzled because I thought the final leg was in Sydney and they are 800 km (500 miles) to the northeast of Sydney. It does appear that they are asking people for rides, so that would go along with hitchhiking, as I understand they do on Pekin Express. It could also be the Norwegian TAR though. Or something local that we're not interested in at all.

From Facebook (including replies - names removed as RFF prefers):

Nimbin is a village 779 km (484 mi) NE of Sydney and 181 km (112 mi) S of Brisbane. From Wikipedia:

Nimbin is notable for the prominence of its environmental initiatives such as permaculture, sustainability, self-sufficiency as well as the cannabis counterculture. Writer Austin Pick described his initial impressions of the village this way: "It is as if a smoky avenue of Amsterdam has been placed in the middle of the mountains behind frontier-style building facades. ... Nimbin is a strange place indeed."

Nimbin has been described in literature and mainstream media as 'the drug capital of Australia', 'a social experiment' and 'an escapist sub-culture'. Nimbin has become an icon in Australian cultural history with many of the values first introduced there by the counterculture becoming part of modern Australian culture.[3]

Yatala is a suburb in the outer northern areas of Gold Coast City in Queensland, Australia. It is 39 km (24 mi) south of Brisbane. Facebook has the Sighting 2 guy who saw them in Yatala listed as being near Melbourne, which puzzled the guy. Don't know where sighting 1 happened.

That's got me confused too. Maybe some kind of weird connection between legalized marijuana in Amsterdam and the marijuana culture in Nimbin? It is the Dutch version of TAR. It still seems pretty far fetched to me.   :duno:

This person works for Singapore Airlines at the Brisbane Airport. She says it was a pitstop, but I doubt that's the case. More likely it was their arrival from Manila. That certainly would be a first if they had a pitstop at an airport, especially the final one.

I get a couple from the french amazing race a lift to emumdie yeah man and there like the French ppl would love you in France #blushes#

I can't find an Emumdie in Australia (or anywhere else). The guy who sent this lives in Noosaville, a suburb of Noosa. Noosa is located about 130 kilometres (81 mi) north of Brisbane in the Sunshine Coast region of South East Queensland, Australia. I do get hits for Eumundi, which is not far from Noosa. Eumundi is a small town with 1700 residents in the Sunshine Coast hinterland in Queensland, Australia, 21 km south-west of Noosa Heads and 118 km north of the state capital, Brisbane.

It looks like they went north of Brisbane after leaving the airport and have then gone south of Brisbane.

Foreign reality show producer films Peking Express in Bontoc

BONTOC, Mountain Province. -- An episode of the 8th Peking Express, a spectacular elimination race, was filmed in this capital town at SitioChakalan of Bontoc Ili and Chakso rice terraces on Jan.21 and 22, 2012.

Organizers said the competition has a similar concept with the Amazing Race and Survivor Philippines.

It commenced with eight pairs of contestants in Seoul, South Korea. The second destination was the Philippines and finally Sydney, Australia.

The show was produced by a Belgian-based Kanakna Productions with Thiery Guillaume as producer and Stephane Rotenberg as program host.

Each contestant was given one euro or equivalent to about P60 per day as allowance.

Along the route, the contestants had to look for free rides to reach their designated destination.

At their stopovers, they had to find hosts who could provide them free meals and sleeping quarters.

From Cervantes, Ilocos Sur, pair Jean Pierre Bouveč and Francois Genevet, both French and defending champion of last year’s 7th season performed in Africa, was the first to arrive at 5:45p.m. on Jan. 21 at the provincial plaza here.

They were welcomed by the Bontockhiyag cultural dance troupe that performed indigenous dances.

The pair was escorted to the family house of a certain CamiloUt-tan as their host for the night at sitioChakalan.

Before they had supper of native dish of pinikpikan and rice, the contestants pounded, through the use of indigenous pestle and mortar, four bundles of palay for their breakfast the following day.

One of the organizers said that there was an advantage of the first couple to arrive in Bontoc because they had a ready host to entertain them.

According to Francois, they slept well as they were tired of hitching rides from Cervantes, Ilocus Sur to Bontoc.

They had to transfer rides because the two vehicles they rode in had engine problems.

At Mankayan, Benguet, they were able to hitch a Land Rover that brought them to Bontoc.

Jean Pierre, who has difficulty in communicating in English, said that Bontoc was one of the best rural communities he visited.

The place is imbued with natural and fresh cool air and hospitable and simple living people, he related.

The other two couples who were not able to reach Bontoc night of Jan. 21 arrived the following morning.

They were tasked to find the Lao-inganato and a traditional pigpen with a native pig at sitioChakalan to find the clue what to do next.

Afterwards, the pairs proceeded in front of the Bontoc museum to register and report to the program host that they arrived in this town.

A point is deducted if the last two couples will be able to see the first couple hence, Jean Pierre and Francois hid in the village.

A spectacular game was performed at Chaksoricefield. The three couples were requested to find the three knives packed in bamboos submerged in a wet paddy ready for planting palay.

They used the knives to cut the ropes that were connected to sacks of rice suspended in bamboo poles in the upper dry paddy. Each sack contains 40 kilos of rice packed in 40 smaller sacks.

As the pair found the knife they proceeded to the upper paddy, cut the rope, untied the sack and carried the smaller sacks through the use of two bamboo sticks as carriers.

They brought their cargo to the third terrace below through obstacles such as 1 wooden ladder, wet paddy and another wooden ladder until the third paddy where the winnowers and host was located.

The couple who filled the winnower with the most number of sacks was declared the winner.

After the game, they had another race to Baguio. They hitched vehicles and dropped by some communities along the Halsema highway that were designated by the program host.

The first stopover was in Nacagang, Sabangan. There was traffic in the vicinity of Nacagang bridge when all the vehicles plying to the south were flagged down by the contestants for free ride until Mount Data, Bauko which was the next stopover.

Rotenberg said that there will be succeeding filming of reality shows in the forthcoming months probably in the Philippines.

This will be participated by Dutch contestants and other nationalities. Moreover, he said that Kanakna is a multi-awarded producer of entertainment shows in Europe since 1996.

It started as a documentary production company in 1993 and became part of the Swedish Zodiak television in 2007.

Yeah, too bad. It sounds like the teams weren't keeping a low profile, so you might have found them. Also, with the teams hitch hiking, you could have gotten some air time.   :hoot:

It looks like you're a few hundred km away, but if you get tempted, you know the general area where they are going to be for the next 10 or 12 hours.  :)

I think few news here.

http://mb.com.ph/articles/348586/belgium-s-version-amazing-race-films-phl

MANILA, Philippines – The Philippines is fast becoming a shooting destination for international entertainment projects, the latest of which is “Peking Express,” considered as the Belgian counterpart of the hit US reality show “The Amazing Race.”

Belgian travel adventure show—akin to Amazing Race—filming in PH

Interaskyon.com reports that "61 crew members and talents of the Belgian Zodiak Media Group have flown into town to film five out of 12 episodes of the travel adventure program Peking Express, which is reportedly similar in format to the popular American reality competition, The Amazing Race." Shooting started on Wednesday, January 18, and will last until February 2.

The report explained the mechanics of the travel adventure show: "Eight couples are sent on a trip: a hitchhike race from Seoul to Sydney, then travels through South Korea, the Philippines, and Australia. The contestants will receive only 1 euro/day per person and with this meager budget, they must find free transport and accommodation to reach their destinations, with the camera teams filming their actions every step of the way. With every episode, one couple is eliminated. Only two couples will reach the final destination, Sydney, where an exciting finale will determine the winning couple of Peking Express."

According to the report, "the Philippine itinerary is expected to go through Manila-Bagac-Cervantes-Bontoc-Angeles-Pinatubo Volcano-Quezon-Candelaria-Talisay and back to Manila before proceeding to Australia."

Yes, there is a link to a story (in French) about the accident on Page 1 of this thread. After looking at the story, I find 2 more follow up stories as well. Apparently it was scary, but not a serious accident. I'll post them with a Google translation. Anyone that know French, feel free to correct the Google translation.

Currently filming the seventh season of Peking Express in the Philippines, Stéphane Rotenberg was a victim, as revealed in the blog jeanmarcmorandini.com, a car accident .

Indeed, the sympathetic and attractive program host adventure M6 found himself before the cameras, involved in a collision on the road while he was on board a sidecar. Beijing Express animator since 2006, Stéphane Rotenberg is also a guide to candidates. A mission that is apparently not safe. Stéphane Rotenberg suffer head trauma, bruised legs and face wounds. The shooting was of course immediately interrupted, the time to care for the presenter of the game, whose days are not in danger.

Nothing can stop it! Real beating, Stephane wanted to resume filming of the show this morning. Obviously, Stephen would be perfectly capable of winning a season of Peking Express! Filming has resumed normally, and the presenter will meet as scheduled journalists midweek press conference for the show.

Note that there will also soon be the Stéphane beautiful, alone, in command of the third season Top Chef .

We now know more about the accident to local sidecar with Stéphane Rotenberg , director of race Peking Express , suffered on the set of the show in the Philippines. The game's producer of M6 , Guillaume Thierry, interviewed by the TV Mag site, has said more about what really happened.

The producer says this: "At one point, the bike is packed and Stéphane has lost control. A car came the hit." Fortunately, more fear than harm to the host, suffered a head injury. It must be said that the incident seemed very impressive (the website of TV Mag reveals the picture of the sidecar . "When I saw Stephane happen, I was very scared. He was immediately supported by our medical and emergency services. A few stitches later, everything is back to normal, "the producer.

Thierry Guillaume also reaffirms that the facilitator, in command of 30 January Top Chef 3 , is well and that the accident had no consequences on the set: "This accident did not change our schedule. Stéphane goes well. He wears a cap just to hide her bandages. It even joked with the candidates. "

Real fighter and stuntman, Stéphane Rotenberg began filming the show on January 11 in difficult weather conditions in South Korea. Filming continues in the Philippines.

Will we see the accident on the screen? It is not even sure he was well filmed, as revealed by Thierry Moreau (Tele 7 Jours) on his Twitter.

A few days ago, Stéphane Rotenberg was an accident of local sidecar on the set of the seventh season of Peking Express , adventure program to success M6 , the Philippines. More fear than harm. While he was recently told TV Mag , This time is for our colleagues from the site of Tele 7 Jours that the sympathetic Stephane returns to his accident and its consequences.

Five days after the incident, the moderator, who will return soon to head Top Chef , explains: "I was motoring journalist in the past and I had some crashes. There I took control of a sidecar for a sequence of shooting without the candidates. But we were on a road a little crowded and I was struck by a vehicle. A banal traffic accident without major consequences. I was supported and cared for by a doctor Beijing Express, and the race could leave a few hours later. I just wearing a hat to hide the small scars and I walk with a limp ... it embarrasses me more than anything else. What surprised me is how people react. I received lots of SMS and phone calls from people worried. But everyone can rest assured, these are just sores ... "

It is true that many people who expressed concern for the journalist. We the Original! Smiling and talented, Stéphane has a real goodwill. Still on the flanks of the volcano Pinatubo in the Philippines, Stephane displays a few scratches on the face and box of the right leg, but more is needed to stop it. Indeed, it has already resumed filming this season, which will be full of surprises - the facilitators of the M6 will come and play "ball"! - By stifling heat of not less than 35 ° C.

A few stitches later, everything is back to normal. "The accident occurred Saturday during filming of an plateau. Stéphane Rotenberg , an avid motor sports, wanted to take control of a local sidecar , a preferred means of transportation in the Philippines.

"At one point, the bike is packed and Stéphane has lost control. A car came the hit. "Shot in the head, the globetrotter M6 was immediately supported for treatment. "This accident did not change our schedule, insists Thierry Guillaume. Stephane goes well. He wears a cap just to hide her bandages. He even joked with the candidates. "

Today is rest day. A well deserved rest. Adventure racing began Jan. 11 in South Korea "in quite difficult conditions due to cold and snow. "It is no longer the case in the Philippines where the temperature is 30 degrees.

I read wiki of Pekin Express that saying "during filming, Stéphane Rotenberg was the victim of a car accident in the Philippines but this has not affected the continuation of the adventure."

??? that's true?

I found a couple of messages on Facebook and that have me more than a little confused.

The guy apparently worked with Pekin Express in the Philippines and says he's starting work in a day or two for about another 2 weeks with Amazing Race Deutsch (his name for it and not what he called Pekin Express).

Another version of TAR filming in the Philippines for 2 weeks starting tomorrow? Whaaaattt?  :colors

I might dismiss this but his information about Pekin Express is very convincing.  I really don't know what this other race could be. Maybe additional non racer filming for Pekin Express?

Here's another sighting just a little ways south of the last sightings the other day. They haven't made much progress but I'll put out a good reason why below.

Gunnedah Tourism @Gunnedah2380
We are expecting 13 more #theamazingrace race teams to come through #gunnedah enroute to #lightningridge @A_J_Marshall @abcnewengland
1 hr ago

13 more teams? Maybe there is another race starting up but it seems unlikely. I suspect it's just the remaining 3 Pekin Express teams.

Gunnedah is 475 kilometres (295 mi) from Sydney. The tourism centre states that "Gunnedah is proudly home to one of the largest and healthiest koala colonies in the world. Gunnedah Koala Capital of the World!"

Lightning Ridge is to the west of Gunnedah and not any closer to Sydney. From Wikipedia: The Lightning Ridge area is a world epicentre of the mining of black opals and other opal gemstones. Lightning Ridge has the largest known deposits of black opals in the world.

The reason for the slow progress becomes clear when you read the other tweets from Gunnedah Tourism.

And it goes on and on. Lots of information about roads being closed and reopening. Apparently Pekin Express wandered into a disaster area with heavy flooding. With the closed roads, it's no wonder they haven't made much progress or been seen much the last few days. I begin to understand why the people the other day were saying they wouldn't be happy camping by the river.  :ascared It does appear the heavy rains happened a day or two before they got there, roughly from Jan 30th through Feb 2nd or 3rd. Here's a few pictures of the flooding.

Hey I found this article on news.com.au

SES puts French Amazing Race contestants in their place : The Daily Telegraph

February 08, 2012 12:00AM
French pair caused "chaos" demanding directions
Visitors had no idea about the flood emergency
SES controller was critical of the show's producers

CONTESTANTS in a French version of The Amazing Race have run into trouble with SES officials who were forced to redirect the series as it tracked straight into flood-ravaged parts of New South Wales.
Gunnedah tourism officials were the first to raise concerns about up to 14 teams on Pekin Express, racing towards an overnight pit stop at Lightning Ridge, unaware of road closures and flash flooding dangers along the way.

A French pair, with camera crew in tow, burst into the Gunnedah Tourist Information Centre early yesterday, demanding urgent directions and creating "chaos" for the surprised staff.

Belinda Hockings, Gunnedah Shire's tourism and marketing manager, said the frantic visitors had no idea about the state's flood emergency and "would not take no for an answer when told about the risks".

Locals also complained to police and council after being flagged down and begged for lifts by the competitors, who are allowed to travel between stages of the 10,000km race only by hitch-hiking.

SES controller Kathleen Cain was critical of the show's producers, who failed to alert local authorities or warn contestants about the emergency flood conditions.

"For the team I saw, I was sending them away from the waters," Ms Cain told The Daily Telegraph yesterday.

"But for the rest, I have fears the direct route is through the greatest flooded areas of my region.

"We have a lot of closures and water currents running over the roads. If you got into an undercurrent, it could sweep you away."

Another team, Belgian brothers Ludovic and Samuel Daxhelet, were in luck, being helped along by tourism officials from Coonabarabran, Baradine and Coonamble who drove them around the flooding to Lightning Ridge.

But the dramas may not end there. With Lightning Ridge and nearby Walgett bracing for floods to peak at the weekend, mayor Gustavus Murray said if the teams made it they were likely to be trapped.

"They might have to be in Walgett or Lightning Ridge for some time," Mr Murray said.

The race, with favourites from six series, began in South Korea last month, has moved through the Philippines and is expected to finish in Australia

Frenchwoman Marcelle in Tenterfield attempting to hitch a ride to Tamworth. Earlier in the day Marcelle and her race teammate, Nicole, caught a ride from Byron Bay to Casino with Casino woman Fiona O’Halloran and her two daughters.

The Tenterfield Star A LITTLE bit of France came to the Northern Rivers last week when the French version of The Amazing Race television show made its way through the region from Byron Bay across to Casino and on to Tenterfield and Tamworth.

Local woman Fiona O'Halloran and her two daughters were spending the day in Byron Bay on the weekend when a commotion on Clarkes Beach set locals abuzz.

"We were told by onlookers that it was the French version of The Amazing Race called Peking Express, she said.

Ms O'Halloran and her children, Molly, 15 and Megan, 11, were walking back to their Nissan Pathfinder at the Clarkes Beach car park when two of the female contestants approached them with a cameraman and asked them for a lift to Casino.

"We thought it was pretty exciting," she said. "I work in Casino; it was the first time I was driving our new car and so we offered them a ride."

"Apparently there was some confusion as the contestants thought they were looking for an actual casino rather than the town."

During the trip to Casino, the two women, Marcelle and Nicole, told Ms O'Halloran that they had been on the show before and this program was like a grand final with all the competitors who had won previous programs.

The theme of the show, Peking Express, is similar to The Amazing Race.

Various couples have to deal with the challenges of long distance hitchhiking in a strange country and trying to communi- cate in a language other than their own.

The group led a cavalcade of about seven cars carrying the other contestants from Byron Bay to Casino.

"I was surprised no-one overtook us, but I think they thought I knew where I was going so the other contestants stayed behind our car the whole way to Casino where we dropped them on the outskirts of town," she said.

"It was all a bit frantic as they scrambled to find rides onward from Casino."

"We gave them kisses and they were all very grateful. We felt like celebrities for a day."

Further on, Tenterfield Star reporter Marie Lowe spotted Marcelle and Nicole in Tenterfield.

"They were in an awful panic but it only took them about 10 minutes to flag down another car to take them on to Tamworth," she said.

CONTESTANT on the French version of reality television show The Amazing Race Marcelle looked a little confused when she approached this man for a lift to Glen Innes when her team went through Tenterfield on Monday.
Marcelle’s team was one of a number that passed through the shire on their way to Tamworth.

The competition pits teams of two against each other to make their way around the world the fastest.

Amazing Race teams sent into NSW flood areas 09:30 AEDT Wed Feb 8 2012

The NSW State Emergency Service has slammed the producers of the French version of The Amazing Race after contestants were sent into flooded areas of NSW ignorant of the dangers and without notifying local authorities.

Up to 14 teams raced towards an overnight pit stop at Lightning Ridge, in the state's north-west, yesterday despite flash flooding and road closures, News.com.au reports.

Gunnedah tourism officials raised concerns about the contestants' behaviour after a French pair burst into the Gunnedah Tourism Centre demanding directions and causing "chaos" for the surprised staff.

Gunnedah Shire's tourism and marketing manager Belinda Hockings said they did not know about the flood danger and "would not take no for an answer when told about the risks".

Other contestants harassed locals for rides as they tried to hitch-hike to their next destination.

SES controller Kathleen Cain said producers behind the TV reality show failed to alert local authorities or warn contestants of the danger.

"For the team I saw, I was sending them away from the waters," Ms Cain said.

"But for the rest, I have fears the direct route is through the greatest flooded areas of my region."

Here's a link below that shows road closures in New South Wales. It makes it clear that open roads in and out of the area are limited. If they have gone to Lightning Ridge, they may be stuck for a while. I don't know what roads were open 24-36 hours ago, but right now the path looks open from Gunnedah to Sydney. Too bad they didn't stay there.

http://livetraffic.rta.nsw.gov.au/desktop.html (http://livetraffic.rta.nsw.gov.au/desktop.html)

Also, here's an announcement from the New South Wales government that states that some communities (including Lightning Ridge) may be isolated for weeks. Goodooga is well to the northwest of where the teams were seen, while Lightning Ridge and Walgett were in the general area that at least one team was trying to get to.

Stock up Now Says NSW SES as Towns Prepare for Isolation
7 February 2012, 6:30PM AET

The towns of Lightning Ridge (4,000 people), Walgett (!,700 people) and Goodooga (250 people) are all facing weeks of isolation, commencing from around this weekend. In the case of Lightning Ridge and Walgett it is likely to be around 2 weeks but could be longer. For Goodooga it is probable that the community is going to remain cut off for up to 8 weeks.

The NSW SES is asking residents to ensure that they complete urgent medical appointments before isolation and stock up on essentials and other items not normally able to be sourced locally. The NSW SES will help to resupply these towns during their isolation and move people if there is a medical emergency.

For assistance call the NSW SES on 132 500. If you are isolated and need resupply, call 132 500 to arrange the ordering and delivery of food and other essentials.

The really sad thing about all of this (besides the hardships the people of the area are experiencing) is that this had been developing for several days and the flooding was well underway before they ever left the Philippines. What were they thinking?  :groan:

OK, I found some tweets that suggest that at least one and perhaps two teams have gotten south and out of the flooded area.

Rachel @rarticalsista
Had the French Amazing Race cast in town today. Of all the places in this world, this ****ing town. I was stuck in class. Damnit!

Rachel is in Dubbo, NSW Australia which is south of the flooded area and 303 km (188 mi) northwest of Sydney (400 km/249 mi by road). Dubbo is considered the cross-roads of New South Wales. It is linked by national highways north to Brisbane, south to Melbourne, east to Sydney and Newcastle, and west to Broken Hill and Adelaide. Info mostly from Wikipedia.

Then there are these tweets from what appears to be a local town council:

Narromine @Narromine
Accommodation and meal needed for one night for a male Belgian contestant in the French Amazing Race. Please call Sally on <phone number removed>

Narromine @Narromine

Narromine @Narromine
We have accommodation for our French contestant - ride to Nyngan still needed - please ring <phone number removed>
1 hr ago

Narromine is 40 km west of Dubbo and Nyngan is 167 km northwest of Dubbo. So they are headed away from Sydney. Wikipedia indicates little of interest in Nyngan. It is on the highway to Broken Hill though a long way from there (588 km). Just throwing out some speculation. Probably unlikely, because if they are headed to Sydney as expected, they would have to go all the way back past where they are now.

Here's an updated news story with some new information, though some of it may have already been posted.

NSW floods thwart France’s not-so amazing race
By David Knox on February 8, 2012 / Filed Under News 0

Filming of a French reality show in rural New South Wales this week hit a road block they didn’t expect: floods.

14 teams on Pekin Express, similar to The Amazing Race, were racing towards an overnight pit stop at Lightning Ridge, unaware of road closures and flash flooding.

SES officials who were forced to redirect the series and battle with competitors who ”would not take no for an answer when told about the risks”.

News Limited reports a French pair burst into the Gunnedah Tourist Information Centre yesterday, demanding urgent directions and causing chaos for staff. All making perfect drama for the cameras, presumably.

The 45 day race sees contestants competing with just one euro per day per person, with a prize of  100,000 Euro. Contestants, who are allowed to hitch-hike between stops, were also begging for lifts from locals.

So far the teams have raced through Eumundi, Noosa, Byron Bay and Tamworth.

In Tenterfield one local said, “They were in an awful panic but it only took them about 10 minutes to flag down another car to take them on to Tamworth.”

In Casino another local added, “Apparently there was some confusion as the contestants thought they were looking for an actual casino rather than the town.”

The local Lightning Ridge mayor reckons if the teams made it they were likely to be trapped.

“They might have to be in Walgett or Lightning Ridge for some time,” Gustavus Murray said.

But the pressure is on for seasoned racers, all of whom have raced in previous editions, with Australia to include their final pit-stop.

And one more news story with a few additional details and the names of one team that got to the pit stop at Lightning Ridge.

http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/news/sydney-nsw/cest-les-grands-idiots-as-french-amazing-race-contestants-run-into-flood-stricken-nsw/story-e6freuzi-1226265171291 (http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/news/sydney-nsw/cest-les-grands-idiots-as-french-amazing-race-contestants-run-into-flood-stricken-nsw/story-e6freuzi-1226265171291)

C'est les grands idiots as French Amazing Race contestants run into flood-stricken NSW

    Holly Byrnes and Samantha Williams
    The Daily Telegraph
    February 08, 2012 12:00AM

CONTESTANTS in a French version of The Amazing Race have run into trouble with SES officials who were forced to redirect the series as it tracked straight into flood-ravaged parts of NSW.

With Lightning Ridge and nearby Walgett bracing for floods to peak at the weekend, mayor Gustavus Murray said if the teams made it they were likely to be trapped."They might have to be in Walgett or Lightning Ridge for some time," Mr Murray said.

The race, with favourites from six series, began in South Korea last month, has moved through the Philippines and is expected to finish in Australia.

I found another tweet from the Narromine Council:

Narromine @Narromine
A Big Thank You to all who helped, Ludovick from the Pekin Express show has made it to Nyngan! His goal is Bourke today.

Bourke is off to the Northwest of Nyngan, which is northwest of Narromine. Ludovic is almost back to being as far north as Lightning Ridge, but further to the west. They are going completely in the opposite direction away from Sydney which we've heard was the final location. I don't have any idea where they could be going. There's a dirt highway that heads west and then south through deep desert like outback and has some ranching stations that could be visited. The highway to Bourke continues north into Queensland and I'm not sure what they could be planning to do up there.

Hi Plaidmoon, i like your pots, there are always instructives. I think there is two possibilities for Ludovic and Samuel, there are blocked by the flood-ravaged and have to circumvent the flooding zone or the course was changed by the pekin Express production because of the flood-ravaged and they going now to Bourke and the national park before to go back to Sydney... what do you think about that?

A MURWILLUMBAH woman had some surprise house guests on Saturday when the French version of the Amazing Race reality television show hit the town.

The Peking Express features various couples who face the challenge of hitchhiking around foreign countries with just one Euro per day to spend.

Leanne Hutcheson was visiting her son at work at the Murwillumbah KFC where contestants Frederic and Jessica had managed to convince someone to buy them a meal.

She said she was blown away when her son nudged her, pointing to the camera man in the store.

"Would you believe it?" Ms Hutcheson said.

"They explained to me that they only had one Euro no matter what country they were in, which is nothing in Australia, and that they needed to find somewhere for the night or they were on the street.

"So I invited them home.

"Go figure!

"In your wildest dreams would you ever think you'd be hosting a couple from the Amazing Race?"

She said Saturday was the contestants' first day in Australia.

"They were asking us to see a kangaroo. It was so funny the closest thing we had was my sons carpet snake," Ms Hutcheson said.

"They were just so lovely to talk to."

Ms Hutcheson's sister drove the couple to Nimbin the following day.

The Northern Star reported contestants had made their way through Byron Bay and Casino this week and were headed on to Tenterfield, Tamworth and Lightning Ridge.

This season of the show is a form of finale featuring the favourite contestants from previous seasons of the show.

Posting ovalorange's article :

Noosa reality check
Peter Gardiner | 6th February 2012

TAKE a bunch of crazy French reality TV types, add a Chinese connection, plus a watching audience of four million people in Europe, and you get the Peking Express.

This Franco-centric cable hit television series - a spin-off from a Chinese series that challenges couples to race one another, much like The Amazing Race - made a station stop at Noosa Main Beach on Saturday.

And this express had all the bells and whistles that go with filming a naked desire to win mixed with wanderlust.

One of the features of the television shoot - apart from Noosa's intoxicating beach beauty - was the star power of Noosa Longboards' woody van.

According to Peter Cullen, of Noosa Longboards, it was the woody that caught the eye of the Peking Express producers and convinced them to do a Noosa shoot.

Peter said he was not sure at first what to make of these French people asking him in broken English to join their planned adventure.

As it turned out, the shop is not only providing the woody and some boards for the competing teams to have a crack at the Laguna Bay surf, but also providing a large part of the challenge.

"After they film the boards in the surf, the teams all have to hitchhike to Sydney with the longboards under their arms, so it should be quite interesting," Peter said.

"The woody first attracted their attention and although they usually don't allow advertising (as in product placement) in the show, they love the van so much they are going to feature it.

"It means Noosa Longboards is going to be screened into the homes of four million viewers - I'm not sure if Noosa has ever been shown to an audience as large as that, all watching at the same time."

The show is beamed out to M6 TV and is hosted by one of France's most popular television personalities Stephane Rotenberg.

The blurb for the Peking Express says: "The show demonstrates how various couples deal with challenges and pitfalls of a long-distance hitchhike in a strange city".

And Peter, before the crew and contestants' arrival Saturday morning, was thinking of making their road to Sydney that extra-challenging by offering them all plank-size longboards.

"But I think we'll go with the mini-mals."

Show comes to Ridge
09 Feb, 2012 12:53 PM

Lightning Ridge was busy this week with more than 60 members and challengers of the production the Amazing Race, French version “Pekin Express”, TV program.
The theme of the show is to demonstrate how various couples deal with the challenges and pitfalls of attempting a long-distance hitchhike to a strange city, together with all the difficulties presented by trying to communicate in a language they don’t understand.

Tension was added by including couples who had broken up “in real life”, but were willing to work together for the sake of winning the race.

Before arriving at the Ridge, the competitors were to hitchhike from Coonamble.

The group spent Tuesday and Wednesday filming at the Bore Baths, Walk in Mine, and the old church at the Four Mile before moving onto Bourke.

In somewhat similar fashion to The Amazing Race, couples that come in last at various checkpoints along the way are eliminated.

For those that don't know - Peking Express is a reality TV show very much like the Amazing Race. Contestants travel the globe taking on difficult challenges in the hope that they are not eliminated. Last couple standing win a million bucks !
The producers of the show loved our Woody and wanted to include a challenge for the contestants that would see them hitch hiking from Noosa to Brisbane with one of our boards and no cash in their pockets.

Pekin Express appears to have completed their slow speed chase across Eastern Australia and reached the finish line about 10-12 hours ago. I have a couple of sightings in the Sydney area.

I just tried looking in on a webcam at Bondi Beach, but I don't see anything unusual happening. Not surprising, since it's about 10:45 AM in Sydney and from the sightings, they would have been there late in the previous evening. I don't see anyway to look backwards on the cam, so I can't see what the last images from yesterday were.  :(

I've asked the guy on Twitter for more information, but he's a comedian with over 6,600 followers, so I'm not real hopeful about a reply.

I had figured out the team with 2 women, but I hadn't been able to decide which 2 male team that was. I'm glad someone else could tell which team was in the photo. The quality wasn't the best.

I have some mild concerns about the sighting with the two French girls. This woman has an astounding knack for meeting famous people in the music business (she also mentioned meeting Ron Wood from the Rolling Stones earlier this week), so I wonder slightly if she's making it up. However, she did post a picture from 2010 of her with Whitney Houston that looks genuine so I'm tending to believe her. Besides, who is Australia would make up a completely accurate sounding story about picking up a team from the French Amazing Race and driving them around Sydney?  :duno:

I appreciate the Thank Yous! Following Pekin Express was a lot of fun and I doubt I'll have have the run of success with another race like I did with this one. I'm not sure I would have stuck with it to the end, but there was a lot of stuff out there to be found. It's always more fun when you find some good information regularly instead of finding nothing for days at a time. It also helped that Pekin Express became really interesting when they got to Australia and were caught up in the flooding.

This might be surprising, but I've never watched any version of TAR besides the US version even though I've been helping spoil other versions for a while now. I just never have made the time to do so.  :noway: I'm going to make the time to start catching up and one of the ones I'll be looking out for is Pekin Express when this season airs. I really want to fill the blanks about what we don't know about this season.
