Title: TAR Australia 2: The Prediction Game
Post by: tarflyonthewall on October 24, 2011, 11:19:59 PM
So, yeah. I'll be doing this, and I'll be doing it slightly differently than in the past. The big changes:

1. A special preseason round with season-long questions such as "Which leg is the second non-elimination on?" and "How many Detours contain rhyming task titles?"

2. A revamped answering system which will make it easier to score, to be revealed when the preseason round begins.

3. A revamped bonus point system. Rather than giving away free points, if you're the only person to get a correct answer for a question, you will score double points on the next listed question if you are also correct on it, regardless of how many people get that question correct.

4. Each round will close at NOON Australian Eastern Time (about 9pm US Eastern the day before) on the day an episode airs, to ensure people don't narrowly miss out because the episode starts early.

Okay, so. The preseason round will go up later today, but just a couple of clarifications:

1. If there is a TBC, it will be treated as a NEL.

2. The new answering system is simple. Each question will be numbered, and each option will have a letter in front of it. All you have to do is write down the question number and the letter matching your choice. It may take longer to find the questions (you'll have to scroll back rather than copying from the last post), but it's easier and it also means you won't need to write your name twenty times every round. For example, if you think the answers to the first three questions were A, B, and C respctively, your answers would look like this:
1A 2B 3C
Please put the answers next to each other with a space between them, rather than putting each answer on a new line. You do NOT need to copy everyone else's answers.

Question, for the pre-season round, like when questions are answered(like maybe a question is "Leg 5.. is it a NEL?") and on Leg 5 we find out, would we receive the points then?

The round would be marked at the end of the season, much like the "Who is the winner?" question in the first week of last season's game.

I'm really sorry but I tried the new answering system and it is painful. Coupled with the most random and obscure questions I have ever seen, doesn't give me a good impression of this game....

Hi, this is sounding like a great game and I would like to join in.

My question is: Do we post our answers here in this thread or do we send them to you in a message?

You don't need to, since without having to copy-paste everything only your answers will be in the post, but feel free to.

I'm willing to take suggestions regarding the answering format between now and during the season.

As for the questions, they're deliberately kind of random in this first round, but will be closer to the questions from the first season's game in the actual episode rounds. I've tried to come up with questions that are at least possible to estimate beforehand without requiring the knowledge of spoilers - given the round started before the race began, it's only fair.

Single distances. Given the show pretty much doesn't mention distances unless there's a reason to (flying x000 kilometres between countries, or the big drives such as to Masada), there's no way to say for sure otherwise.

Aussie, your vote is too late. It does not count.

Today's questions will be uploaded later today, but the results will wait until next week while I rewatch the episode. I managed to get most of the answers while timelining the episode, but I still need to watch it again to double check some.

Curse you for including contingencies regarding a no-RB leg.  (:;)
Curse production for airing all of 0 legs with both a Detour and a RB (wiki says that a Detour was edited out of leg 3 and a RB poorly edited out of leg 4).  :groan:

At this point, we can't guarantee we're going to get a Detour and a Road Block shown (although it looks like we CAN guarantee both are present in every leg). What I'll do is give full marks for both a "there is no Road Block/Detour" answer and for the actual leg-as-designed answer if we can prove it. I'll also backmark these answers and give them for the first few weeks as well.

So here we go. (Oh, and to make up for the non-round in Turkey? Everything's double points this week.)

1. Who reads the first clue upon leaving the Pit Stop?
A. Paul
B. Steve
C. Paul & Steve are rendered mute and have to mime

2. Michelle & Jo pick:
A. The Detour with its title on the LEFT of the graphic
B. The Detour with its title on the RIGHT of the graphic
C. Michelle & Jo get distracted by a shiny coin and fail to pick a Detour, or there is none

3. How many confessionals do Sticky and Sam have before we hear about his arm?
A. One or fewer
B. Two or more
C. They have no confessionals

4. Who does the Road Block?
A. Joseph
B. Grace
C. There is no Road Block

5. Does Andrew say anything in a confessional without Shane prompting him?
A. Yes
B. No

6. Do Lucy and Emilia ever make a cameo in the top four during the episode?
A. Yes
B. No

7. Do either James or Sarah say the word "Turkey"?
A. Yes
B. No

8. Before their MFE penalty, Ross & Tarryn finish:
A. In the top five
B. Sixth or seventh
C. Last

9. We're in Turkey, about 90km from Gallipoli. Do we go?
A. Yes
B. No

10. What comes first?
A. Detour
B. Road Block
C. Obvious splicing where a Detour or Road Block would have been

11. The Pit Stop is:

17. The prize is worth:

B. After the Detour but before the Road Block
C. After the Road Block but before the Detour
D. After both the Detour and the Road Block

A. The first team completing that log-rolling task that looks like it's been stolen from Survivor
B. The first team riding that ski gondola David Duchovny dangled from in that episode of The X-Files

B. No

5. Who is the second team to receive the Road Block clue? (NOTE: The wording of this question is deliberate.)
A. Paul & Steve, Michelle & Jo, or James & Sarah
B. Shane & Andrew, Lucy & Emilia, or Joseph & Grace

6. The episode is scheduled to begin at 7:30pm Melbourne time. At what time is the Pit Stop location revealed for the first time?
A. Before 7:50pm
B. Between 7:50pm and 8:10pm
C. After 8:10pm

B. The one with the title on the right side of the graphic

9. Does the leg contain any "roadsign" route markers (Yield, Intersection, etc)?
A. Yes
B. No

10. Do Joseph & Grace actually help James & Sarah at any point during the leg?
A. Yes
B. No, the time difference is too large
C. No, they refuse
D. No, they actively hinder them

11. Does anybody, including Grant, say the words "British Columbia"?
A. Yes

12. BONUS QUESTION: List five words Grant says at some point during the episode. You may not list player names, or any words in the expressions "Previously on The Amazing Race Australia", "Eighth Pit Stop in a race around the world", "Teams must now fly to Vancouver, Canada", "Detour", "Road Block", "Fast Forward", "last team to arrive may be eliminated", or "predetermined elimination leg". For every word Grant says that is on your list, you score eight points, plus one point for every person who answers this question who does NOT list the word in question.
