"Amazing Grace, How Sweet the Sound (Las Vegas)"
The final teams fly to the finish line in Las Vegas. Original Air Date: Dec 6, 2009

Las Vegas, Nevada  8/7

Info starts here (http://forum.realityfanforum.com/index.php/topic,19790.new.html#new) thanks to VegasSinner
*They will be in Las Vegas today, 8/7.
**It's not odd if you live here...it's actually full of fun, entertainment and excitement!
That's probably why they chose Vegas for their final destination.
The last three teams flew in this afternoon at 1:45pm, their clue was to head to a wedding chapel on the Strip, walk in on a wedding taking place, and get the clue from the "King".  Once they arrived in the chapel, there was a couple set up to pretend to get married by Elvis, Elvis then gave them the final clue which was to make their way over to the MGM hotel at the other end of the Strip to win.  I have no proof.  You'll just have to take my word for it, a total stranger, that lives and works in sin city.
Thank you, thank you very much

***No all female teams were among the three teams that arrived.

*****  (http://forum.realityfanforum.com/index.php/topic,19790.msg444138.html#msg444138) It was very hard to tell, they arrived all at the same time, so very unclear who is teamed up with who.  There were four Males, and two females, one was black.
I think was a Male/Male team, then a Male/Female team, and a Male/Black Female Team, but not totally sure.

******All I know is that they flew into Vegas and landed sometime between 1pm and 1:45pm... I don't know where they flew in from, (I had heard someone say Atlanta, but cannot confirm that one) they were instructed to go directly from McCarren airport to the chapel which is located in the downtown area.  It's only about a 30 minute drive, however if there is traffic or they get a unknowing cabbie, it could take 45 minutes.  ALL three teams arrived at the chapel at the SAME time and it was around 2:30 or so.  They all left the chapel within seconds of each other.  The clue that Elvis handed them said to go to the MGM, and that Wayne Newton would be involved.  I have no idea what they were to do at the hotel, or if there was a detour or roadblock after that.

*******They didn't go directly to the MGM from the airport....they went to the chapel from the airport.  The chapel is in the downtown area, a lot farther away.  Also take into consideration, the Strip is 5 miles long....then add 3 1/2 more to get to the downtown (Old Vegas) area.  I doubt if they'd let them bungee jump at the Dam with all the issues they've had, water skiing on the lake sounds more realistic, but not a big deal worthy of a reality show.  I can't wait to watch though.

The TAR Detective team has excellent reason to believe that the Finale Leg will take place in or near Las Vegas today! There may be tasks in the desert as well.

* Hi everyone! This is my first post but I've been lurking here forever...................love everything you guys do around here this is one of my favorite sites!

I had to register because my sister is in Vegas and she just saw a team! She said she was driving down the strip and was stopped in traffic when two guys with a camera crew ran behind her car! She saw amazing race flags! She said she did not get a good look at them but only saw their backs. They were wearing green and grey backpacks and darted through the traffic across the street! That was the only information she could give me but I thought I should pass it along.

This siting was 3 hours ago.....

** Thanks Chateau! I just asked about the pink hair and my sister said she couldn't see it but my dad did! I sent her that picture you posted and asked for her to show the rest of the family she is with to see if everyone can confirm it was that team .....I will let you all know, but it seems like it is the right team to me!
***My sister said they were near ceasar's palace on the strip...
And she just confirmed that is the team they saw! Do you guys think this is a team that is in the running for the finale or a decoy?

****They were running toward's Ceasar's Palace. My sister said they were full out running (that's why she didn't get a good look at their faces) She said she saw the camera men well and they were drenched in sweat..... my sister said that she first saw them on the sidewalk and when traffic stopped they darted out into the road to cross it and thats when they ran behind the car she was in.

*This is my first time posting on this site and I have pics of teams in Vegas!  Wish it hadn't taken me so long to post this, but I haven't had internet access until today.  Just read some of the more recent posts and Im hoping this will shed some light into who our F3 might be.  Was in Vegas over the weekend and a dream of mine came true, got to see the Amazing Race in action! I was on a balcony and below me, two teams came running by.  Both teams looked lost like they were at the wrong place, since they ran down the street right after.  Didn't see a third team, they could have come before I got there or went to a different spot. Tried to snap the best pictures I could.  But to figure out the time issue, this was in the early afternoon, as I had just finished up with lunch at the buffet. So this would totally fit into the flight times being discussed.  So this could confirm two of the F3. I definitely saw the guys in green with pink hair and the Globetrotter team.

While walking back to the Venetian on 8/7/09, we saw people in backpacks running and cameramen chasing them -- of course, my first thought was: The Amazing Race! This is the video I took of "the green team" getting into their cab.

Ericka is doing the Cirque du Soleil task at the Mirage, it has "The Beatles LOVE" in the background.

Tasks seen: rappelling of the Mandalay Bay (thanks Dan, kittygoesmeow, and north09)  and rappelling inside a theater to grab some flowers. And something to do with chips (maria and tiffany would have had an ease with that task).

I think the rappeling task is at the Mandalay Bay or the MGM grand

Isn't the Mandalay under common ownership with the Atlantis in both Grand Bahama and Dubai?

Doesn't sound familiar to me...but the same company owns MGM, Mandalay, Luxor, Mirage, Monte Carlo, Excalibur, Circus Circus, the list goes on and on...no mention of Atlantis.

Looks like rappelling is either at Mandalay or the Hotel right next door.

So if they do the typical "smart" task at the end how big of a blowup are Sam & Dan going to have?

Or do we think we don't have one of these this season?

I have an ESP thing going on thru my mind for this episode and in my theory according to some of the clips that shown for the final episode of TAR 15:

1) There could be another switchback but this time it'll be on a detour task.  I'd saw Sam and Dan performing a face first task which is very similar to the one from TAR 4 in Brisbane, Australia leg.

2) I do believe on a final road block task, filling and counting many casino chips until the chips on the table should reach to a $1 million mark.  More or less than that amount should redo the count.

That's what I know. :-[

STOP being so modest Slowhatch!! You called it not me!  :yess:  :jam:

The clue that Elvis handed them said to go to the MGM, and that Wayne Newton would be involved.

Wayne Newton is a good guess. He has a large estate (http://www.bing.com/maps/default.aspx?v=2&FORM=LMLTCP&cp=q0bhrp5d79m6&style=b&lvl=2&tilt=-90&dir=0&alt=-1000&phx=0&phy=0&phscl=1&scene=5093727&ss=yp.pecos%2Fsunset~pg.1~sst.0&encType=1) just a few blocks from the airport that could easily handle production, and his schedule was clear (at least as listed on his website) for July and August (video here (http://www.cbsnews.com/video/watch/?id=4302492n&tag=contentMain;contentBodyv)).

I'm trying to match the brown felt on the gaming tables... and yes. it apears to be a high stakes room...

so far the Golden Nugget (downtown) has "similar" brown felt on their tables... but can't match the old time decorations...   :duno:

Where are you all seeing that?

Any chance we can decipher the sign behind Cheyne in the poker room? I'm trying to figure out if it's a high roller room or a regular poker room...looks like a high roller room to me.

I'm trying to match the brown felt on the gaming tables... and yes. it apears to be a high stakes room...

so far the Golden Nugget (downtown) has "similar" brown felt on their tables... but can't match the old time decorations...   :duno:

I'm trying to read the tables, it definitely appears to say "The" something and the writing looks similar to the Mirage, but they don't really have any pictures of their high stakes rooms. Still looking though...

The chips, however, definitely don't appear to be from any casino, just generic chips. Security issues, I'm sure.

It was very hard to tell, they arrived all at the same time, so very unclear who is teamed up with who.  There were four Males, and two females, one was black.
I think was a Male/Male team, then a Male/Female team, and a Male/Black Female Team, but not totally sure.

Do you think they will have them go through the front entrance on Tomiyasu Ln or the back entrance on Pecos?

EDIT: after looking at it, they probably drop them off at the front gate on Tomiyasu and have them run the rest of the way to the finish mat.

So they arrive at McCarran, then in one order or another do:

-Graceland Chapel (Route Info?)
-Mandalay Bay (1/2 of detour?)
-Monte Carlo (1/2 of detour?)
-Mirage (Roadblock?)
-Casa de Shenandoah (finish mat)

Or something like that, right?

:yess:  looking good!  This is the Monte Carlo Hotel/Casino Poker Room...  note the similar "old time" tacky paintings on the wall, and the exact same wall lights...

One can assume the high stakes gaming room is similarly decorated.  Close enough to call...

BTW, the Monte Carlo is a MGM/Mirage property.. so it's all in the family with the Mandalay Bay and MGM venues

To me it looks like Dan is running to the detour and M & C are driving away. This is followed up with Sam and Dan then leaving after they finish. So maybe M & C are ahead of them?

Assuming the six-roadblock ("Bowling Moms") rule is still in effect, then Sam and Ercka have to do the final roadblock, as both Dan and Brian have reached the limit. Meghan and Cheyne have the liberty of choosing since they're at five roadblocks apiece.

This may help confirm which is the roadblock task.

Haha not really, since Sam and Ericka are both doing something by themselves.

However, the shot of Ericka also has Brian in the harness, so maybe that's just a detour? Not sure.

While recent seasons have had memory tasks concerning the race (some using one racer 12, 14) some using both (11,13) but for the whole series its been 50/50 to date.  So it is possible that they don't have one in this season.

Memory based tasks
Season 3, 8,9,11,12,13,14

Standard Tasks
Seasons 1,2,4,5,6,7,10.

I highly doubt that the poker chips are a part of the Roadblock - because Meghan and Cheyne are found in the room at the same time, as well as Brian doing poker chips.

The trapeze could possibly be the roadblock - the fact that only Ericka is in a trapeze?

I sure do hope there is a memory task!

Ericka is the only one in the trapeze, but Brian is also wearing a helmet and harness. That doesn't make sense to me, as he's just standing there, obviously not strapped in. Unless he already completed his part and is waiting on her? There's too much speculation to think about  :groan:

Something else to think about: VegasSinner's report of teams heading for the MGM Grand. The producers love to add the drama of adding a quick sprint around the city at the end. I would be willing to bet that teams are sent from their final task to the MGM where they get the final clue to race to the finish line at Wayne Newton's estate.

Roadblock might just be that final before-the-dash-to-pitstop task (ala surfboards from last season)

The bungee in the Mirage definitely seems more like a detour. Somehow Brian must be involved with helping Ericka reach those suspended flowers. Maybe they had to figure out a way to propel the team member in the bungee towards the flowers?

Let me comment on what Dan (cdfe88) said. In most opening episodes(all but AR1, Ar12 and AR14) and in one (AR13) closing episode of Amazing Races, there is no ROADBLOCK. Instead, there are several general tasks.

I think no ROADBLOCK in the AR15 ep. 12 is a distinct possbility, but not likely.

I was thinking about the pokers being a memory challenge and glad there are people who think alike as well.

Starting line:
1000 license plates involved

Leg 1:
They had to eat 2 wasabi bombs
Tour guide 20 japanese tourists to the pitstop

Leg 2:
Herd 150 ducks for the Roadblock

Leg 3:
Don't remember any numbers involved

Leg 4:
Find stalls 980 and 981 for part of the scarf Detour

Leg 5:
Collect clue on the 120th floor of Burj Dubai

Leg 6:
The Gold Detour require teams to weigh out US$500,000 worth of gold

Leg 7:
62 bells for the Roadblock
Play 3 holes of farmer's golf, within par of 8 strokes each?!?!

Leg 8:
Search through 186 haybales

Leg 9:
Score 5 points for volleyball?!?!

Leg 10:
None?

Leg 11:
Carry 30 glasses of beer for Lager detour

I think this could be a TAR 3 memory challenge, where the animals need not appear for every leg. In this case... the numbers they have to remember need not be from every leg as well.

TAR 3 ROADBLOCK -
Quote
Roadblock: Totem pole with animal faces. The person doing the Roadblock needed to spin the faces in the same chronological order they appeared in the race (which was donkey, dolphin, horse, goat and manatee)

Some of the more possible ones..
1000 license plates involved
Tour guide 20 japanese tourists to the pitstop
Herd 150 ducks for the Roadblock
Collect clue on the 120th floor of Burj Dubai
The Gold Detour require teams to weigh out US$500,000 worth of gold
62 bells for the Roadblock
Search through 186 haybales
Carry 30 glasses of beer for Lager detour

This is COMPLETELY SPECULATION. But is it just me or this season has many numbers involved? Hmmm...

Also, in one of the screen captures you see Cheyne counting a whole role of chips.

I refuse to believe that the producers will ask the teams to go all the way to just count and arrange a certain amount of chips before they can move on...

First I will preface this by saying that I have not been in McCarran International Airport in about 25 years.

In this screencap, it appears to me that Cheyne, Brian and Ericka are "behind the glass." Every place I have ever been "behind the glass," I have been herded to Immigration and Customs. Terminal 2 @ McCarran is the international arrivals termainal and the large square building there you have marked the place where they get the taxis is the Immigration/Customs Hall. So do they go through immigration/customs at McCarran????

From the offical McCarran International Airport website, the following airlines use Terminal 2.

   AeroMexico
  Air Canada
  Aviacsa
  British Airways
  Condor
  Hawaiian Airlines
  Korean Air
  Mexicana
  Omni Air
  Philippine Airlines
  Sunwing
  Thomas Cook
  Virgin Atlantic
  VivaAerobus

Currently British Airways has a direct flight from Heathrow to LAS, but much later in the day. I tried backtracking through Montreal and Toronto to see if it was possible to fly into Vegas in the narrow time window of Aug 7th, but I couldnt find a way to get to Heathrow from Prague, without having a mid-journey "pitstop" layover. TPTB could have done like they did in TAR5 in Calgary and made arrangements for the teams to have a conference room in an airport somewhere to crash, wait out the layover and stay out of sight the evening of Aug 6th. I got tired of looking at flight schedules.

Anyway, that one screencap just screams Imigration/Customs to me.

BTW, Chateau, great job on the GE captures.

Chateau what do you mean by "further than average"? That doesn't look like too long of a run to me (if the pickup spot is outside terminal 2 as I am thinking the pictures match it up to be).

I wrote that because the location is not the place where regular arriving passengers (at terminal 1) would be getting a taxi.  My first impression was that they set up the location so that it would give a more private filming area for the taxi scenes.  But then I zeroed in on the location of the running-by-the glass shot (if you squint you can even see the reflection of the giant Sphinx!).

Quote
So do they go through immigration/customs at McCarran?

I'm making a complete guess here:

The teams de-plane UA 551 at Terminal 2 by a special arrangement with the airport and airlines.  Then the flight continues to its regular gate in Terminal 1, thus making it 28 minutes late.  It's scheduled arrival time was 1:39 pm and its actual arrival time was 2:07 pm.

I made some preliminary shadow estimates of the time and they support this scenario.

And It looks like they don't take UA 551

1) From the map below, the building Brian, Erika and Cheyne are seen running is the same shape as the one for Terminal 2.

2) UA 551 arrives in Concourse D which is on the other half of the airport. Any other flights??

that sacres me... I have a gut filling the team that hits the lows is M&C. They have won 6 legs and everytime they do there video diary that always sayt hey are the best and on a great high. Reguardless wether you like M&C or not you have to admitt they deserve this win more so then the other two teams. The other two teams just faught and finished just good enough to keep racing. Also, you should know that Peach already called out the 1:52 pm arrival from London back on August 8th!

The only International flight that I can find which is even close is this one:

LGW London VS 43  Virgin Atlantic Airways 2:10 PM (scheduled)   1:52 PM (actual arr time)  T-2  Landed
  On-time  744

Gosh it's gonna be soooooooo exciting! But those pictures of Ericka doing the indoor bungee (or whatever that's called) doesn't look too optimistic, what's more with the preview voiceover that "some teams hit the lows". Uh oh.

I wouldn't let the preview worry you too much. The producers like to be tricky with the previews for the final leg, so it could be that they are just trying to hide who really wins (well, obviously). :groan:

I was thinking about the pokers being a memory challenge and glad there are people who think alike as well.

This is COMPLETELY SPECULATION. But is it just me or this season has many numbers involved? Hmmm...

I actually find that to be highly likely, especially given what it says in the written clue. Great idea!

It's just a rhetorical question, but how in the world did they send people rappelling down the side of a roughly 20 story building amidst thousands of tourists with video cameras and still cameras and have nobody notice it?  :duno: :duno: :duno: I suppose it's possible that people did see it and didn't connect it to the Amazing Race, but still, I would have thought that the word would have gotten out somehow.

The side of the building that they used was the backside.  It drops down to the expansive flat rooftop of the lower base of the structure where there is nobody standing around or walking around.  It was also all in the shade (thankfully for sweaty hands sake!).  That all worked well to minimize the number of people who saw it.  If they climbed past your hotel room it would be noticed.  But then, as said already, it does not immediately make you think of the Race.  I would even have overlooked it as just somebody doing a stunt.   :(

I know that this is my first post but, I do have confirmation that Casa de Shenandoah (Wayne Newton's house) is shown in the finale preview.   I showed it to my friend who lives in Vegas and they verified it.  I thought it looked familiar.  I should, I see it every time I go, which is once a year!

The fellow at Graceland might be Brendan Paul (http://www.bestelvis.com/start.html). I'm curious about the task there; if it's just witness a live wedding (or even a fake wedding), then it's a FiFo task that doesn't allow any team to move ahead.

According to the description from Directv:  The final three teams count out a large amount of poker chips and race to see Mr. Las Vegas, who holds the final clue to the $1 million prize.

I take it Wayne Newton hands them the final clue to his home, Casa de Shenandoah.

On a side note...I didn't know that was his house!  I've passed by that place a few times!

Are you kidding?  They film stuff here all the time.  And weird stunts are performed every day 24/7 here on the Strip.  Probably didn't connect it to TAR if it was seen. All they do is block off the street or parts of the hotel from tourists or traffic. This video appears as they are in the back or one of the sides at Mandalay Bay rapelling down.

After giving it some more thought, I believe you (and Chateau, who made a similar point) are right. It's been about 15 years since I've been to Las Vegas and I can recall that the front of the hotels along the Strip was alive with people and activity. However, if you were on a side street a block or two over from the Strip and behind a hotel, there wasn't much going on. Since they were repelling down the back side of Mandalay Bay, that probably kept the onlookers to a minimum. For all I know, 50 people posted tweets and blog entries about they saw stunt men repelling down a building for a movie being made in Las Vegas and we would never have spotted it since they didn't refer to the Amazing Race.

Vegas is a zoo, circus and roman feast all in one. It is a perfect place to "hide in plain sight." It is so hedonistic and me centered, its amazing to me that we got as much info as we did from that leg.

Great brainstorming there Chateau.........it will surely be interesting to see what actually unfolds. Its going to take a lot of Jet fuel to move that plane from one terminal to the other. I did think it was possible that they changed gates/terminals for TAR and then let the teams deplane first and use the immigration/customs chute to bypass the other people in the regular part of airport. It will be fun to see if United Airlines gets a lot of free advertizing on Sunday.....

Notice that none of the racers hailing cabs at the airport have their large backpacks with them - just small daypacks.
Compare that with the decoys in Vegas - they had their full backpacks with them.

Where are their bags? Still at the baggage claim?

YOUR call????  lol

Chateau was the only one to guess the right chapel VS

I know there are several Elvis wedding places but I 'm going to put this one out as the one:  Graceland Chapel  (http://www.gracelandchapel.com/)

Its location:

619 Las Vegas Blvd. South
Las Vegas, NV 89101

Google maps says it is 14 min from the airport (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=LAS&daddr=619+Las+Vegas+Blvd+S,+Las+Vegas,+Nevada+89101&hl=en&geocode=%3BFfvNJwIdlQgj-Q&gl=us&mra=pe&mrcr=0&sll=36.120718,-115.145941&sspn=0.124659,0.178356&ie=UTF8&ll=36.124981,-115.149765&spn=0.124652,0.178356&z=13)

The flight from Chicago UA 551 (fastest route from Prague) landed at 2:07 pm.  If things going likitysplit then I can see them getting up to this chapel by about 2:30 pm.   :jam:

Maybe I guessed right!

You are correct!!

Compare that with the decoys in Vegas - they had their full backpacks with them.

Where are their bags? Still at the baggage claim?

My hypothesis is that the  3 decoy teams left Prague around noon Thursdayaugust 6, so they reached Las Vegas as follows:

OK650 Prague (PRG)  -  London (LHR) 1235 1345 connecting in Heathrow with
BA275 London (LHR)  -  Las Vegas (LAS) 1535 1825

That way they are well rested for the final race day and their bags have been long stowed in a hotel long before the Final 3 ever arrive in Las Vegas. If they need some bags for appearance sake, they bring those along.

We see Brian put a stack on the table, perhaps they are labeled with where they have been type clues or tasks they have done, like maybe say for instance a monkey chip? And perhaps they have to collect x amount of one color with the logo then stack it in a certain order on the table?

Maybe it's find chips with your name/face on them.  A red chip would stand out pretty well among all those greens, yellows and blues.

Maybe they start in stacks, and the racers have to spread them out to find the correct chips.

I think the taxi looks the same too. It'd be much easier to be able to communicate with your driver and be like "HEY! STAY WITH US!" haha.

The one where they look more nervous looks like it's near an entrance to the freeway (from the sign in the back) so might be earlier in the race? Although from McCarran they wouldn't need to be on the freeway at all. The closest that they would be to the freeway would be when they're in the south end...near MGM, Mandalay, Monte Carlo, etc. as they would be on Tropicana. IIRC correctly there are NO signs on LV Blvd directing you to the freeway until you hit right by New York New York.

^^Looks like the same taxi to me, is that what you're asking?
Same or no?

Looks the same. I know most are thinking she looks excited in that first pic, but I find it to look more nervous than happy.
that the scene would leave us to believe that they are on the way to the finish line but in reality they copped the first cab to the strip

Thats what we are believing, yes. The best route to the Graceland Wedding Chapel would be to take the ramp on to Swenson, where they would encounter the first sign.

There is a overhead highway exit sign in the background of the pics of Meghan and Cheyne in the taxi.  That ought to tell us where they were in that clip. (Someone needs to manipulate the pic to make the sign more clear.)

No need. The sign on the left says "Las Vegas" at the bottom and the one on the right says "15 S" which IIRC should say "San Bernadino"

Plaidmoon

Vegas is a zoo, circus and roman feast all in one. It is a perfect place to "hide in plain sight." It is so hedonistic and me centered, its amazing to me that we got as much info as we did from that leg.

I  agree totally!

:jam:

Well after they get the chapel clue they go to the MGM , when they go to the Mirage to do the bungee thing its ground level so I don't think theres a need to take the elevator? Why don't you go try to match the elevator kiwi, i'm doing something else right now.

VegasSinner, when I mentioned downloading a map of the MGM in the thread you created this summer, you mentioned something about the sky towers. I bring this up because if Brian And Ericka are taking an elevator, it could be coming down from the sky towers where they recieve the roadblock clue.

If you look in this picture. Behind Megan to the left. Is that Sam? on the table. Which could mean this poker task chip thing is actually the roadblock. We don't see Cheyenne, Ericka or Dan doing the roadblock?

Just curious. Also could it be that Sam/Dan get stuck behind on this task, while our final two are Brian/Ericka & Megan/Cheyenne with a foot race. I would love a foot race to final matt like Chris & Alex w/ Tara & Wil That would be awesome.

But I do believe that is Sam behind Megan.

Well I am confused. It does look like only one team member is doing the chips, but if it is the Roadblock wouldn't Erika have to do it? We see Brian handling the chips. And someone upthread posted that it looks like a small mirror in front of Mehgan's right arm, and I agree with that. Why would they need to use a mirror?

Yes I did mention that because one of my contacts at the MGM told me that they meet Wayne Newton in the Sky Towers part of the MGM or the Signature part.  She wasn't sure.   Now on the scenes from next week, I noticed they're at Shenendoah, that's Waynes Ranch.  I've been there many moons ago, it's off the strip near the airport.  But I didn't see Wayne in the clip.  So maybe he meets them at the MGM first, then sends them to do stuff at Man Bay then they go to his ranch.

The elevator could be in the Mandalay bay too, that's where it appears they rapel off the side.

I think it looks like a face. Which would agree well with the idea of this task being a memory challenge.

Some of the yellow chips also have numbers on them. That could go well with a number-related memory challenge that Joab brought up.

My 2-cent worth...

what if the chip challenge was a general task that only one person need to do. In Sweden, they had this task, involving the tall roller coaster.

Or could be that one team member shuffles the chip, and then the other team member must arrange them in order or something like that...

Went through the entire thread and am pretty sure Ericka is not starting on the task. She does seems as though she's bending down and counting away.

We can pretty much say it's a Roadblock (???) if only Meghan, Sam (or Dan) and Ericka are attempting it.

(The picture you posted above was much bigger and you can really see numbers on it!)

Sorry puddin, can't view the previews for next week as there's country restrictions.

But besides the shot above which shows Meghan counting away with the chips.. are there any other shots which shows the chips clearly? At least, the top of the chip.

The yellow chips on the shot above definitely contained DIFFERENT numbers on it. The one on the most bottom left shows 225(?) while some chips next to it shows other values on it.

And this brings me to a daring speculation, that teams have to find the chips with numbers on it (most of the chips will not contain numbers) and stack them up and get the correct value for each corresponding colour. I'm skeptical about it being a memory challenge but more of a "perseverence" challenge as if the producers wants to make this task a little more evil, only one side of the chips will have numbers on it.

Imagine if team members have to gather EVERY yellow, red, blue, green and maybe even other colours chips with numbers on it, then count it correctly to get the correct value. Worst of all, all the chips will contain different values on it? :funny:

It can prove to be a very disastrous challenge if a team member just miss out ONE chip with numbers on it accidentally. Teams can even get stuck here for hours i believe.

Or either way, they need to complete a task somewhat similar to the task i've described above.. just different variations to it maybe. Perhaps it may after all be related to a memory task, for example the red chips might represent the 1000 license plate on the first leg and team members have to find EVERY single red chip with 1000 value on it and then stack it in order and find out how many red chips they found and vice versa. If the team member actually stacked up red chips with other values on it.. then they will be completely wrong?

No idea.. but this may be exciting to watch!!

The inner roadgeek in me has been bothered by those big green guide signs in the photo of Meghan/Cheyne in the taxi. The left big, green sign states, "I-15 NORTH, SALT LAKE" and the right one is "I-15 SOUTH, LOS ANGELES". There is also a black-letters-on-yellow-background, "suggested speed limit" sign for the ramp which looks to be "20 MPH". The way the big green signs are situated tells me that the ramp for Los Angeles is the first one you encounter, then the one for Salt Lake is after it, and both are only accessible from the right lane since they're perched together. There's a brick-like wall below the two big green signs which matches the brick-like wall in Meghan/Cheyne's taxi clip.

The only place I could find (using Google Street View) is Spring Mountain Road.

Meghan/Cheyne are heading WEST on Spring Mountain, and they are on the WEST side of I-15.

I couldn't find this upstream, and I apologize if this was already dealt with:

is the title sung by "Elvis"?

And has the Amazing Race played off of its resemblance to Amazing Grace before this?

Casa Shenandoah's a good place to do something unseen with a star.  (Except perhaps by the all-seeing VegasSinner).

And Ericka doesn't seem to be at a chip-filled table in the pix with Meghan. But maybe it's too far away to see chips?

And is there any evidence of a tie-in to CBS's own Las Vegas-set hit, CSI?

VegasSinner tells us that Elvis sings Amazing Grace, some teams might chime in
I have a video to put up, Ericka is moving at the chip table which is set up in the corner.
The Vegas/CBS thing might be tied in with the new Amazing Race (http://forum.realityfanforum.com/index.php/topic,21335.0.html) slot machines.

I don't know if anybody mentioned this,

but Maria and Tiffany should be not really happy if they found out about the chip counting task,

because if it's basiclly chip counting, they should be really good.

True.  OTOH, that still would not have guaranteed them victory.  It would've given them an advantage at best, but probably not a free pass for $1 Million.

Meghan/Cheyne win

Ericka and Brian third

I'd be happy with any of this final 3 for the win  :jam:, Good Luck Teams!

Lol.

I don't know if someone's mentioned about the title, but I have a feeling it will be said (or sung!) by the one and only 'Elvis Presley'. =D

And I am guessing & HOPING, that this is the finishing order:

1. Brian & Ericka
2. Meghan & Cheyne
3. Sam & Dan

I dunno how it'll happen only based on the preview, but I am still HOPING!!!

I wouldn't be too sure of that. The interesting thing is that for the last five seasons I have hoped in particular that one or two teams in the finale wouldn't win. In every one of those seasons, of of those disliked teams had to win. This season I'm hoping Sam & Dan don't win. I think you get the picture. :(

Fun fact: Ever since season 9, no team has ever reached a memory challenge first and won the race.

SO if Meghan and Cheyne continue on their Meghan and Cheyne ways, we can mark them down to lose, right?

*Silently continues hoping Bricka can find a way to win*

The Amazing Race

The Amazing Race: Phil Keoghan on Finalists’ Chances
December 6, 2009

The Amazing Race host Phil Keoghan has never guessed the final three teams on day one, and his losing streak remains intact for the 15th installment of the series, a “truly fantastic season” that concludes Sunday night on CBS. “I never know [who will make it to the finale] and that’s what makes the show work. The audience is left guessing every step of the way,” he told PEOPLE. He also gave his assessment on the remaining teams who will battle for the jackpot on the Race’s last stop, Las Vegas. –Carrie Bell

The All-Americans
Meghan Rickey, 23, and Cheyne Whitney, 23, of San Diego, Calif.
Strengths: Apart from having the most first-place showings of any team ever, “they have that wonderful, youthful enthusiasm about life and completely embrace new experiences. They have questioned each other’s actions, but somehow [always] worked things out. I’m sure the Race has tested their relationship more than any other experience to date. I’m most surprised by Meghan’s incredible transformation. At the start, she told me she was focused on facing her deep-seated fears and wanted to use this experience to change the way she approached life. She has stepped up for her team throughout and pushed way beyond her comfort zone.”
Weaknesses: “Being young could be their downfall. The pressure could finally prove to be too much when so much is on the line. It’s imperative that they slow down enough to make the right decisions and not let their boundless puppy-like enthusiasm steer them in the wrong direction.”
Best Strategic Move: Going for the Fast Forward in Dubai. “That was a strong power play that paid off big time. They’ve never been scared to go for it.”

The Gay Brothers
Dan, 21, and Sam McMillen, 23, of Liberty, Mo.
Strengths: “They’re brothers with the longest-standing relationship and after announcing their [shared] sexual preference [to each other], a special connection was formed that could be the deciding factor when it comes to finishing on top. There’s no denying their love for each other. Their yelling and screaming could be an advantage as long as the communication is constructive. Often their frustration simply comes from wanting to do well. Both have a strong desire to take home the win and if things get physical they‘ve already proven they aren’t adverse to using a little muscle to stay ahead.”
Weaknesses: “The brothers seem to break down and get fragmented when the pressure mounts. Can they keep their composure or will they choke? To win this race they will need to work as a unit.”
Best Strategic Move: “I’m not saying it was the right move, but their decision to not help Big Easy with ‘Franz’ clue [in Prague] did the Globetrotters in and secured their spot in the final three. I also think Dan apologizing to Sam after the hay bales strengthened their relationship.”

Mr. And Miss America
Ericka Dunlap, 27, and Brian Kleinschmidt, 27, of Nashville
Strengths: “Their devotion to each other has kept them together through extremely challenging times. Their support for each other is bound by an undying love that has withstood fierce resistance. They compliment each other and absolutely deserve a shot at the million. I really hope their family members who have doubts about their partnership will reconsider after watching them race around the world together.” They’ve also gotten lucky, which comes in handy in Sin City. “They’re survivors who seem to be traveling with an angel on their shoulders. If they can keep their composure, there’s no question they have the fitness and smarts to win.”
Weaknesses: “At times there’s a Men are from Mars Woman are from Venus thing going on with these two. This tends to happen more with pressure. Have they learned from their mistakes or will the added stress of the final leg prove too much for them to handle?”
Best Strategic Move: “Karma comes into play on the Race. They didn’t make any real enemies, played a kind, courteous game and helped fellow Racers when they could. Some of that good fortune might have been what kept them around in the Race.”

The only way that M/C will lose is because of the memory task curse (first one to get there loses).

I have to grudgingly admit that not helping the GT's did get the brothers to the final 3 although I didn't like it much watching it go down. Brian and Erika have won me over. I appreciated that they played as hard as they could but didn't play cutthroat and respected each other while playing.

I have no clue who wins but I can't wait to see who does! Good luck to all 3 teams.
Actually Dan's limited help to Big Easy didn't have any impact on Dan & Sam making the final three.  What it did was enable Brian & Ericka to make the final three.  That is its impact, not on the brothers in any way shape or form.

The Amazing Race

Best Strategic Move: “I’m not saying it was the right move, but their decision to not help Big Easy with ‘Franz’ clue [in Prague] did the Globetrotters in and secured their spot in the final three. I also think Dan apologizing to Sam after the hay bales strengthened their relationship.”

Best Strategic Move: “Karma comes into play on the Race. They didn’t make any real enemies, played a kind, courteous game and helped fellow Racers when they could. Some of that good fortune might have been what kept them around in the Race.”

I think that helped them by removing one of their biggest threats from the game

But the point is that if Dan gave Big Easy the complete answer, the only direct impact on that leg is that Brian & Ericka most likely (since we don't know if Big Easy & Flight Time would have handled the detour, but I think they would have done ok) would get eliminated.  As it is they are going to be significantly behind when Sam & Dan finsihed.

Sure it did eliminated the Trotters for the final episode, but the fact that Brian & Ericka made the final three is completely due to Dan not giving Big Easy the full answer (well that and Big Easy was enable to figure out a fairly basic tasks, at all).

Really for all the Brian & Ericka fans, you do really need to think three things so far.  One Marie & Tiffany not being able to complete either Detour (that saved them from what should have been certain elimination), and Dan for giving them the chance to catch up, and BIg Easy for giving them an extra window of over 4 hours to screw up the rest of the leg.

Yes, but there really wouldn't have been much in the remainder of that leg that the Globetrotters could have done to mess up Sam & Dan enough to get them eliminated. Thus it helped Brian & Ericka into the Final 3. The brothers would have made it anyway.

I agree, that move took out the biggest threat to them but since I like Brian and Ericka, that did allow them to get to the final 3... as I said I grudgingly admit it wasn't a bad move. (But I didn't like it much as I watched it.)

Trying to figure out the final flights. Looks to me that they flew from Prague to Heathrow on British Airways arriving around 6:30 pm on Aug 6th. Then transfer to Gatwick for flight to Las Vegas on Virgin Atlantic at approx 11 am on Aug 7. That means a rather long layover in London of about 18 hours. Arrival in Las Vegas was about 15 minutes early on Aug 7th.

Maybe someone asked them at TARcon just what they did. Thanks for the close-up, Puddin!!!

On Fancast today, M/C said the layover in London was about 12 hours and they spent it eating, sleeping and hanging out with the other teams.

Do you have any caps of the Shenandoah gate, Puddin? I don't remember seeing it during the episode. Mr. Newton, who let TES and TAR into his house and yard, seems very protective of his gate: there's even a blank spot in streetview coverage (go here (http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&ie=UTF8&ll=36.069134,-115.10082&spn=0,359.978092&z=16&layer=c&cbll=36.068777,-115.100817&panoid=CHAJUOz0LMFukqMgJP6Szg&cbp=12,342.88,,0,14.31), advance the map north one notch, and you'll wind up in...jail  :colors  ;D).

The gate they used was at the end of the row of trees in the upper-right of that overhead shot.  The only thing we saw on the show, though, was Meghan and Cheyne's taxi entering that gate from the inside.  I don't think there was an exterior shot of that gate.

For the flight peeps

Several of these flight combinations from London to Las Vegas utilize that great airport Victoria train station (ZEP).

The huge questions are:
1. Why were all teams routed to London when there were alternate routes from Prague that would have landed them much earlier?
2. One example of that is Chateau's PRG MAD MEX LAS route, which would have arrived at 910am.

My guess is that World Race Productions wanted a late enough flight from Prague to assure that all teams could have a decent rest (from the 10 hour pit stop, which could have been more if the 3rd team arriving at the Prague II pit stop had done so earlier) and still get to the London flight on time. Once in London, they could have used AA99 connecting in Chicago with UA551 (Neobie's flight prediction, which Chateau later adopted too) arriving 28 minutes late while VS43 actually arrived 18  minutes early, which made it 15 minutes earlier than UA551. However, there would have been no way to predict that. One reason is identified in the list of flight possiblities. There was only one Y seat available for UA551 vs. 2 Y seats for VS43. Since we don't know when the list was printed and how the seats were reserved (I bet it was WRP prebooking the entire itinerary for 3 teams x 4 = 12 people months in advance) it is impossible to know what that exact situation was.

BA857 arrived at Heathrow airport at 1926 (24 minutes early) on August 6. Teams flew from Gatwick airport on VS43 actually leaving on schedule at 1125 on August 6. The only way to account for a 12 hour layover is Heathrow is roughly 1 hour from downtown London by subway and Gatwick is on a major train line 27 miles south of London. If teams stayed in a Gatwick airport hotel and the 2 hours transportation(including subway and train schedules not exactly matching the minimum possible times) and  1.5 hours are taken off for clearing security and boarding, you would have close to a 12 hour layover.

Something I realized in hindsight. I posted this when everyone was still clamoring about BE quitting the RB.

Quote
On topic, I think the check in times are about:

Meghan/Cheyne 200 am
Sam/Dan 320 am (I'd say the golem task added time to them)
Brian/Ericka 600 am

And then we saw M/C leave at 11:10 am; S/D at 12:08 pm; B/E leave at 3:15 pm. Of course, B/E fairly clearly checked in during daylight, and (though I could be wrong), Prague is not in daylight at 3:15 am (and in fact, sunrise was at 6, making my guesses pretty close save for GayBros  :jam: ). Was there enough time for an extended pit stop (roughly to 33 hours?) or was it just a truncuated Pit Stop (~9 hours)?

zackattack308,
It was clearly a 10 hour pit stop according to my estimates of when teams finished episidoe 11, which are a bit different than your estimates. My original and revisions are as follows:

Cheyne/Meghan  original 100am  revised 110am
Sam/Dan            original 230am revised  208am
Brian/Ericka        original 500am revised  515am

I could be consistently off by one hour, making your numbers credible for a 9 hour pit stop. However, there is no possibility that Prague II was an extended pit stop. Once an extended p[it stop was taken in Estonia, the timing of the two Prague legs barely fit into arrival the morning of August 5 and departure the evening of August 6.

I just realized how small a race they ran. Since budget cuts from Season 12 onwards they have spanned in order (12,13,14,15) - 30,000 and 40,000 and 40,000 and now for Season 15 a minimal 25,000 and I think that sucks! Man I wish for a full 13 leg old school big connections, big flights TAR 3 epic self driving race. Come on bring it all back!
