Most likely, and I am so glad that TAR 16 applications are up!
alright! I won't get ahead of myself for TAR17 and enjoy TAR15 and than 16.
You guys are the BEST AR fans out there. You make me feel good about being here and posting. I don't know TAR like the back-of-my-hand like some of you but I know the logistics of the show. =)

Go!! The deadlines seem to be a little flexible these days...I get the impression you can submit videos after the deadline and not be excluded. Casting seems to be an ongoing process these days.
The disadvantage to a casting call is that your video is off the cuff, you don't get to be as prepared. But sometimes that is an actual advantage! And nothing to say you can't submit the video too.

Yes they will shoot a video. I suggest taking your filled out application with you, supposedly those are pretty important. Remember it is a relationship show, so focus on what makes your team special and different from all the other couples and friends and family who apply.

One more question... For an open casting call, do you recommend that we take the passport photos? The eligibility requirements state all the things you would need to send in to apply, but I wasn't sure what might be different with the casting call. (I know they will do the video for us there...) I thought I'd tell you all about our experience at the casting call. But first, a question...does anyone have a sense of how long (if lucky enough) until you hear back from producers about an interview? Just curious.
The event in Lewisville, TX (just north of Dallas) started at 8:30 AM. We got there at 7:30, and we were the 117th team in line. It seemed discouraging but once you started meeting other teams and talking, the time went by relatively quickly. There were three rooms for the videotaping. No questions, no interviews...just videotaping. First there was someone to ensure you had everything that you were supposed to bring. Then you waited in a holding area until your number was called. You get into yet another line, then finally are taken into a private room for the videotaping. Being team # 117, we finished and left at 11:45 AM, so all told we waited in line for just over 3 hours. And there were many teams behind us. I estimate the total number of teams at around 250-300.
It was fascinating, but not informational. We really didn't get any more information about the entire casting process than what we knew beforehand.

I have never once heard of someone being turned away because they had previously applied. So I would go....BUT try to show them something new and fresh...don't just repeat what you did on your first DVD. Remember that they are looking for the RELATIONSHIP between you and your partner, so the two of you need to show whatever it is that makes you different from the thousands of other friends/couples/family members that are also applying. Let them see that spark, hear about your "hook", see how the two of you relate. That's what they seem to be after...NOT how many languages you know or what a great traveler you already are.
And be sure to take a thoughtfully already filled out TAR 16 application with you, I hear that they really do read those closely.

That is an error I believe, the official eligibility requirements still clearly say that BOTH team members need to be 21 or older.
I saw that, but the eligibility requirements haven't been edited to say 18....

Quick question for all of you. A few weeks ago I applied to the Amazing Race 16. I opened the eligibility requirements PDF and it said "Currently there is no deadline for applications...." So my girlfriend and I sent our tape/application in.
Today I was just cruising around the net and saw on a few message boards that July 10th was the application deadline. What do you all think? Did they open back up the application process? The Eligibility Requirements PDF still says "No deadline.." Or is this just a mistake. I know as of last week they still had open auditions so maybe they are still accepting mail ins

My GUESS would be that you are fine. They have recently gone to a no deadline thing on the PDF's which is new last season and this. I think that perhaps they are having "open" casting...if they love you, they will make it work. I know that in season 14, they had a couple of separate groups of semi-finalists apparently, so who really knows? :lol:

I have some reliable unofficial info that casting is ongoing, but I am not a WRP/CBS casting official. :funny:
As I understand it, they are always looking for good teams, deadlines don't seem so crucial anymore. There has been a fair bit of carry over from season to season as well. Meghan and Cheyne were finalists in TAR 14, Victor and Tammy in TAR 13.
I'm sure that we will eventually see a new application though... The apps have changed very little, the only big thing is the location city for first interviews...

Does anyone know if you can send in your application via mail, as well as go to the open casting call? Do you think you have a better chance at getting selected through open call? Or it all depends on how your tape comes out? (i.e., you clam up at open call, you're screwed) It's not an interview, so I don't really see the point of open call if you can shoot your own video.

Actually, knowing Spillman and the casting process, a team with that kind of "hook," provided there's some interpersonal dynamic (i.e., they're not boring), might have a good chance at the finals. Self-promotion, though, usually brings the opposite effect.

Hi folks, New here. There was a casting call for "upcoming seasons of TAR that may or may not be produced" in Denver last week. It also had an address to send applications to the Denver tv station and not to California as in previous casting. Can you track this down Georgia? I called WRP to find out if it is legit, but I have not had a response. There is too much info on these applications to be sending them willy nilly to just any place. Thanks for the help.

I believe we've had a dual citizenship team. The Indian-American married couple on TAR 10 who only lasted for one leg.
The primary need I suspect is that someone must have a U.S. passport.

Hmmmm....As far as I know, Season 17 casting is complete.
I have never heard that wording before...
Can you explore this further with the TV station?
Otherwise, I need the original link, the contact info, and the station involved.
But I think your request to WRP is the best way to proceed, I would ask them again. I personally would not mail anything that precious to a TV station after the fact. The usual procedure is to hand it over at a casting call directly, I believe.

I would think that it would have to come in the next few weeks with filming happening in mid-late fall. I am newer to the TAR bandwagon, some of you might have more insight. Also, if we don't see an application released in the next couple of weeks, could that be an indication that TAR18 could be an All-Star edition?

Does anyone remember how the previous seasons casting calls were advertised? Was it with season number? Maybe I'm missing it, but the Ninety Nine restaurants and Resorts casino only had "The Amazing Race" with no season #. Perhaps this is telling us that the next one will be a special edition and this casting is for fall 2011?

Is it too early to start thinking about TAR 19 I have for a long time watched TAR but it wasn't until season 17 that I actually applied I obviously didn't make it (didn't even ever get so much as a phone call) I know applications were due for TAR 17 February 4th. With TAR 18 being all stars when do you think we can expect to hear word on TAR 19?

I saw a link yesterday from the CBS station in Dallas for December 15th, but it was being held just across the state border in Oklahoma. It was not season specific, either. Apparently the station is sponsoring it, though.

Hmm.. it says those who audition must be 18 and over, when the Race is supposed to be 21 and over with some exceptions. :secret
They have obviously changed the rules. As far as exceptions, I don't think that Caite or Kevin of recent years were 21 at the time.
(EDIT at the beginning of filming in their respective years Caite was 20 and Kevin was 19)

I think it's become apparent that the age limit is no longer 21. Until we see a current application form for TAR 19, we won't know for certain, but it does seem to have changed. It may be that at least one of the team members has to be at least 21, though, due to things like insurance when driving overseas, and things of that sort.

According to the eligibility information statement, they're aiming for semi-final interviews in March, and filming in the vague "Spring/Summer."
No surprise there. They've definitely covered more topics as to risks and past media exposure than in past versions of the application/eligibility packet, as well as the scope of the waivers.
You can tell what they are looking for by the way this stuff is described and asked, so "perfect teams" are clearly at a disadvantage.

In my COMPLETELY NON-EXPERT opinion, and someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe they say that if you submit a new application with a different partner, they will disregard your first one and only consider your second one.
As far as who to apply with, do what you think is right. Make a good video that truly shows off your unique personalities.

In my opinion they are not looking anymore for strong Alpha male teams, unless they have an interesting story. So if you and your dad can really reveal your feelings, your differences etc, in the video go ahead. But even if you apply with your mom you need a strong video.

It’s happening between Noon and 5pm. And, yes, you’ll have to make the long drive to Durant, Oklahoma to meet with the producers. Get used to the traveling! How far would you go to get on TV? Literally, because they’re having an audition for The Amazing Race tomorrow, but it will require a road trip. The producers for The Amazing Race will be at Choctaw Casino in Durant, Oklahoma tomorrow from noon to 5pm so find your partner & get your applications at CBSDFW.com.
And listen, if you can’t make a trip to Oklahoma without a fight, you might want to rethink this. Everyone else should get their tickets to Jack’s Brew Ha Ha on New Year’s Eve. Awesome! Thanks for all the help. Ok more questions, so the applications are due January 5th, after you submit everything they go through them and then make cuts and if you get a call or something then you go and meet them for an in person interview? Is this just one location or multiple across the country? I saw the list of cities on the eligibility form and Atlanta is the closest one to me so would that be the location we would travel to? Also, my mom and I would be quite the combo but if not my mom my sister would definitely be good as well. Which combo do you guys think has the best chance? And for the application video do we just get creative and do whatever we want as long as it fulfills the requirements? I really want to give it a shot so hopefully we can get on this and start getting our app together.

The first thing you need to do is sit down and read and study every word of the application. I am convinced that part of the reason for some of the steps is to to test your ability to follow instructions...as in read the clue. :lol:
For instance, if you apply Jan 5...you will have missed the deadline. :tup:
And while I have NOTHING to do with casting, I believe they are really not interested in what kind of filmmaker you are...they want to see what makes you and your partner special...why you would be good TV. Feature your relationship.

My friend and I sent in an application sometime last summer (late July, I think) because people were talking about rolling applications. Should we resubmit or, since it was after casting for S17 and there was no "casting" for S18, is our current submission good enough? I am sure that is couldn't hurt to reapply. Does anyone know on average how many applications are turned in each season I read something like 12000 although it seems that a lot of the contestants are recruited or semi famous.

The Lake Oswego audition session is a 4 or 5 hour drive for me and I'm not working that day, so it's doable. Unfortunately, I don't have a daughter that won a beauty pageant or a son that's quirky and trying to reconnect with me. :duno: If I tried to audition with my wife (who sadly is not much of a TAR fan :ascared but I love her anyway :hearts:), our fitness levels and her mild disabilities would make us the next Arthur and Anita. :( I think I'll keep working out and losing weight and try out a year or two down the road if I find a good partner.

Normally, the fall editions are not officially announced until the May upfronts (which is usually the week of TAR's spring edition finale or within a week or so thereafter.
The application prior itself more or less means that there has been a grennlight, even though there may not have been an episode order placed; most networks often have their week-by-week preliminary schedules done it seems up to a year ahead. (That's helps them plan for development of pilots which often does start almost a year ahead.)
The fact that Nancy Tessler has already indicated that CSI:Miami will be renewed even with its higher costs, and lower ratings, and is seen as an improvement over the other dramas that have been in the 10pm Sunday slot over the last few seasons (Cold Case, Without A Trace, The Unit), is a preety good indicator I think for TAR 19 and 20; especially her line that if the fans keep watching then they wouldn't be canceled.
That's my $.02 anyhow.

CBS affiliate WKRC-TV will hold an open casting call for “The Amazing Race” 4-9 p.m. Friday, Feb. 25, at Turfway Park in Florence. No casting producer from the show will be there. You’ll have one minute to tape an audition, and tell producers why you should be picked for the Emmy-winning show, and have a shot at winning the $1-million top prize as the Linz family of Anderson Township did in 2005.
As with “Survivor,” the first 200 people in line are guaranteed an audition. You must be 21 and older — not just 18 as for “Survivor” — to apply, which is not clear on the Local12 website. It’s hard to predict when the line will start forming — all I know is that 130 ”Survivor” candidates were in line by 10:30 p.m. Thursday, the night before auditions, and they cut off the line at noon Friday. Hi Hardworker, I doubt if anyone will say whether they have had a call back or not. It would jeopardize their chance of getting on the show. If you can't keep it quiet that you are being looked at, I doubt if TAR could trust you to keep it secret if you made it. Just an observation. Good luck, anyway. :<)

I'd bet that casting for TAR 19 is pretty close to final right now (if not finalized already), and that these calls are for TAR 20.

Casting is pretty ongoing these days I think.... some seasons go right to the wire.
But yes, there have been final interview rounds for TAR 19 already.

Confused by this application system. For instance, judging from dates of past races, seems completely unknown if open call in Texas in April can be for TAR 19, so is it for 20? Thus, are you ahead of the game to go to it? Or actually hurting yourself by applying.... for race 19 and then not being eligible for 20?! And does anyone know the actual percentage of racers that have been chosen from casting calls as opposed to mailing forms in? Or simply recruited by casting directors? I dunno. I'm all for the opportunity of casting call, but if 99.9% just for locale publicity....

Some races were completely revamping casting as little as a couple of months ahead, from what I know. People do get chosen from casting calls...Toni and Dallas are one!
No one knows anything for sure. So have fun!! Apply!! And the only thing that would make you ineligible to apply again for 20 would be if you went to final interviews and then were not chosen.

My coworker and I have sent in applications and went to a open casting call in the Poconos but havent grabbed castings attention yet for Season 19. Any suggestions for 2 Female, Upstate New Yorkers? We arent barbie dolls but we are in good shape and love adventure! I want to keep sending in appications and videos until we at least get called for a interview but have no idea what exactly will catch their eyes =(! My teammate can talk the pants off somebody so my hope is if we get to interview she will work her magic and get us farther!! thx!

New here. Been following but just made a profile. So hubby and I got a call back for season 17 but did not make it to the finals. So my question is should we still keep applying they said to but we applied for 19 and nothing. So just wondering if they saw us and are over us!! Can't decide if we should keep going. The best answer I can give, is yes, keep trying! They saw something they liked but perhaps they had enough couples or whatever this time. Doesn't mean you might not be right another season. Mark and Bill applied something like ten times...then MAGIC!!

Great thanks for the info. I think hubby is done with trying but I am determined. Glad to hear that someone else applied a lot! This is such a great place for info. They just had a casting call her in Austin today ( I live in San Antonio) but we did not make it. Hope it was not a mistake. Thanks for the welcome!!

Awesome! So that means new racers right? I've enjoyed Unfinished Business, but the race is always best with fresh faces! Keeping my fingers crossed that TAR20 will also be new racers!

I think you can plan on new racers. I'm no insider but I don't think they can come back with old racers after just doing TAR18 with old racers.
So, when does everyone speculate we should see a TAR20 application released? June or July?

Casting calls now, such as the one in LA, are NOT for TAR 19. :tup:

There are ongoing casting calls as there have been all spring...they are usually listed on the CBS site. Some seem promotional only, others are very genuine. But these are for future episodes, TAR 19 is casted.

All of the reports I am seeing say that the casting is for TAR19 but the application says the deadline was January 4th which gives them ample time to have already completely cast this season.
It seems like they are feeding that to the press as a publicity stunt to promote season 19.
