12 episode season?
-
It looks that way, as there appeared to be 12 legs to AR14. Also, the thinking is that there are 12 teams, which is why there were 12 legs without too many NELs.

12 teams comes from one of our threads. I can't remember who concluded that but somebody did.

8:00 PM CBS cbs special: the 44th annual academy of country music awards
[three-hour special presentation]
-
Thank you, Puddin.
-
zomg the finale's on my birthday :sucks
Though I'm somewhat curious as to how March Madness will affect all this.
-
Stupid country music awards! I remember how that impacted TAR8 and almost TAR9, really when the show was on Tuesday. Now with the show's Sunday move, it couldn't be an option. But no! The ACM moves to Sunday.
Okay, j/k around. IIRC, the ACM was on Sunday last year. Plus, I was wondering what the special was that would possibly cause TAR14 to be preempted. Stupid me thought the show was going to start on 2/22/09, but stupid me forgot about the Academy Awards. So, I figured that something was up, or that it would be 11 segments, but ending on 4/27/2009 (boo).
Anyway, this clears up a lot of stuff in terms of what happens and what is happening. I thought there would be a CBS special on Easter to push TAR back (and that couldn't happen for another reason, that would push back TAR in a different but familiar way).
So, the schedule is what the schedule is; as for the following:
Though I'm somewhat curious as to how March Madness will affect all this.
March Madness starts on March 19. It's the first of four days full of Round 1 and Round 2 action. Some of the late games might cause TAR to start a little late. Whatever it takes for the field to get back down from 64 to 16. Then Week 2: another set of four consecutive games starting on March 26, ending the following Sunday, and possibly pushing the show back a little.
Those will probably be the only events that will affect TAR. Other than the Masters, which concludes on Easter Sunday, April 12. So, there will be TAR, but it might get delayed more than the weeks the NCAA Tourney ends for the evening.
-
Daytona 500 and TARace= double premiere races for puddin, whats not to love? :jumpy: :jumpy:

We can take a brief vacation from Amazing RAce spoiling, but please udnerstand that we have 5 legs (or 4 if you believe it will be only 11 legs) of AR15 left to find. We have the first 4 legs up through Romania in hand and we have the Phuket and Guilin legs. We do not know the following:
the 2 or 3 legs after Romania and before Phuket
the leg between Phuket and Guilin
the final leg Finish city
For the leg between Phuket and Guilin, there is a weak data point for Shanghai. For the final city we believe it's in Hawaii although we don't know which island yet. For the legs between Romania and Phuket we know nothing other than a sighting of Phil changing planes in Delhi airport. As a Christmas present to ourselves, let's see what we can do to fill in the blanks.

well, we do sort of know the final leg --- we have had the hawaii spoiler which seems pretty legit

I wouldn't discount somewhere Russia either ...
Yay!! More dirt!! Thought the well had run dry on info from here in Romania, but just got this email from a friend here in Brasov:
"So I sat next to a guy at the wedding yesterday who is a cop in brasov and was assigned as a driver to some of the supporting crew for the amazing race when it came through. from bucharest they had to take the train to brasov, and they went to the black church where they found out their road block. i don't remember what the first one was but the second was something to do with a gypsy village. he didn't know what else they did in brasov but from brasov they went to bran and he said he didn't think they went to Bran Castle but they did have their pit stop. in all he said they spent about 3 days in romania and from here they went to russia."
-
Sounds like a maybe to me! Russia is of course huge. Amazing Races have visited Moscow and St. Petersburg and I doubt that either one will be on AR14. Many of the neat places to visit are now part of the Ukraine, Georgia, Armenia or Azerbaijan. The other major cities in the European part of Russia(west of the Ural Mountains) are:
Krasnodar
Volgograd
Rostov on the Don
Smolensk
Gorky
Yekaterinberg
Omsk
Novosibirsk
Novgorod
Samara
Chelyabinsk
Kazan
There are no other million-plus population cities in the southwest quadrant of Russia. The two I like best for an Amazing Race visit would be Volgograd(formerly Stalingrad and before that Volgograd) with great history and Rostov for being a center of leisure activities.
Do we have any RFF members in Russia?
-
Whats a good backpacker destination in Russia? Seems to be the theme of things. Even Guilin! I did some research and didn't know it was a so called backpacker friendly place.
-
puddin, Guilin is not a big backpacker place. However, anyone who wants to get to Yangshuo, the backpacker/hippie capital of China and 40 miles from Guilin, will almost certainly have to go through Guilin.
-
Information about backpacking in Russia is pretty difficult to come by. I attempted to click on the Russian hostel list (276kb) at
Russia Hostel List Entry Page (http://www.backpackingeurope.com/hostelrussia.asp)
However, the response was a FORBIDDEN warning. I don't know if you could get better access, puddin, but such a list would tell us where backpackers go.
I personally have been to the Golden Ring of 12 towns north of Moscow. I have been to only 2 of them; they are good places for backpackers.
-
It would be neat to see them in Volgograd. It is one of 4 places in the old Soviet Union I would like to see. I have wanted to go to Volgograd since I was about 10.....also Kurst and St Pete in Russia and Kharkov in the Ukraine.......well one day.
-
Dr. Rox, when I hear where you want AR14 to have gone in Russia, it reeks of World War 2. Back then Volgograd had been renamed Stalingrad and there was a huge battle there plus the famous tank battle at Kurst and the battle for St. Petersburg (of course it was renamed Leningrad then) and the battle of Kharkov. The first 3 were turning points on the eastern front while the 4th was a German victory.
Let me guess. You are a World War 2 history buff.
-
I personally would like to go to those places one day. I dont really care if TAR goes to any of them or not. You mentioned Volgograd.
My parents had a villa once about 50-60 miles from El Alemain and I visited there. An when I was backpacking around Europe in late teens and early 20s I hit all the major places this side of the Iron Curtain. Since it no longer exists, I would like to see the ones that were closed off for so many years. I have left flowers at most of the memorias and cemetaries. Lots of people died at those places I mentioned, so I could live free. I appreciate their sacrifice and like to show that appreciation.
-

My son has been backpacking in China, SE Asia and India since June, and visited many TAR13 locations (we have a picture of him with red paint). He'll be traveling through Kazakhstan (and 3 other 'stans), plus Russia in 2009. The cities listed on his Russia visa application were Volgograd, Kazan, Nizhny, Novgorod, Moscow and St. Petersburg.
We're saving TAR13 so he can watch it when he's finally back home. He was going to watch for TAR14 participants, but since he was bicycling around the coast of India during the applicable time period, their paths did not cross.

Thats pretty cool CanadaGoose! thanks for the lead(s). I am jealous of your sons adventures!!

india again???
Beginning at the Los Alamitos Joint Forces Training Base near Long Beach, Calif., the Emmy-winning CBS reality competition (premiering Feb. 15 at 8 p.m. EST) will follow the teams for 12 episodes as they travel over 40,000 miles in 22 days to nine countries, including - for the first time - Romania as well as Switzerland, India and Russia.
"We shot in the city of Krasnoyarsk and the city of Novosibirsk," said "Amazing Race" executive producer Bertram van Munster. "The teams get from one city to another via the Trans-Siberian Railroad. Of course, it started off nice, but we got into this Siberian snowstorm with below-zero temperatures, which we weren't used to. It was pretty exciting."

12 episodes? I hope that is right.
-
oh NICE one, kogs!
Well...at least we know why we saw Phil in Delhi, lol!
And oh joy! I get my TRAINS this time around! :hearts:
-
12? I like that. Why not 13? :P
-
The Ap article seems to be the only source at the moment for the 12 episode information. (Although the AP article at Yahoo also has that information. Yahoo's AP article on TAR 14 cast (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090126/ap_en_tv/tv_amazing_race_1).
I'm looking for confirmation from any other media source.
India's fine with me, and two cities in Siberia coupled with the TransSiberian Railway and a snowstorm? And the European legs, Thailand, and China. I can't wait!
-
12? I like that. Why not 13? :P
I wish! 12 would be okay though!

13 YESSSS! 12 YESSS! 11 O.K

thats not a schedule, I believe mwooden is still working on his timeline
I should mention that air dates/film dates are not completely solid -- others might have more insight on this. I might have missed something here and there as well -- this is just an attempt to consolidate the reliable info in the bajillions of posts we have.
-
Apskip also got muddled with this. I think it was 11 episodes in the end wasn't it puddin and he had some idea of 12 teams which isn't quite true!
-
Thanks, kiwi, but apskip did not get muddled. The 12 episodes comes from an aritcle on World Race Productions. Would van Munster lie about something like that that affects the schedule and TV time slots for the entire race? He has lied about other thingsm, but I cannot imagine him doing so on this subject.
It may not be apparent whether there isn't a second pit stop in Switzerland or whether there is one in Germany, but I think it's likely that something materializes to make it 12 episodes. The futoncritic is in my opinion wrong.
-
In my humble opinion (not being knowledgeable about these websites or their reliability) I would just guess that this is just another 11 episode season and that maybe both sites made some kind of mistakes. I really wish it were 12 though, but I'm not going to make a firm conclusion yet.
-
Would BVM lie? No! Would BVM get it muddled? Oh yeah baby...
Remember when Burkina Faso was "two countries in Africa"??
-
BVM has done it before and will do it again. all schedules and points "point" to 11 legs and I would be surprised if with purse strings tightening that they would do another leg :duno: I agree with....almost everyone else that 11 legs will be correct!

Same here. Remember all those sources of Antarctica in TAR11. Maybe it was just one source... Did BVM say that, or was it USA today?
-
Antarctica?? That was just my "we HAVE to go there, CBS let me down again, unfulfilled but kept me entertained for weeks" chatter probably.
Heh, someone just sent me a cruise info pack on Antarctica this week! :hearts:

Peach, buy your ticket real soon. Summer in Antarctica will be over on Saturday, March 21, 6.5 weeks from now. You would not enjoy it much with major darkness and increased coldness. Your best bet is to get on a future Amazing Race, the one that turns out to be going to Antarctica, definitely October to March.
-
I think the cruise was for next Jan??? Heee... Us southern belles like to look at ice, but not get near it, unless it is in a glass with an umbrella of course. ;)
-
Just come to the Pocono's peach its currently 6.6 and is going minus tonight! OH joy!
No cruising but we do have a lake or 2 and 3 ski mountains around the corner if that counts?

For US viewers at least. It might decrease the number of YouTube type links available for the foreign viewers though, and we can't access the CBS online episodes either :'(
-
I really don't think so Mrs. Shrek. I think Youtube will still continue with posters uploading TAR 14!
-
Quite a surprising number of the requests for uploading TAR in past seasons have been US viewers who missed that weeks episode
-
Not all have the Travel Channel though Mrs Shrek so don't worry.
-
BVM hints 12 episodes along with the route map and press release soooooooooo
If 12 episodes, which I think it is and am grateful that, would put the finale on Sunday May 10th but that can't be because Survivor 18 3 hour finale is scheduled that night so.........we might be looking at 5/17 for TAR finale and seeing as CBS (http://www.thefutoncritic.com/listings.aspx?date=05/17/09) has an empty slot there thats probable.
-
Hmmmm. The later in May, the better. Thinking selfishly here. ;)
-
the later the warmer ......
:knuckles: fricking snow again!!
-
Are we sure that we'll be preempted 4/5? Could we be switdhed to a diff night instead? Finishing after Survivor seems odd....
-
Hmmmm. The later in May, the better. Thinking selfishly here. ;)
If they show the TAR 14 finale late enough in May, maybe they'll do us a favour and start taping TAR 15 the same day. How does a starting line at a certain tavern in NY sound...
-

Yeah, but aren't the CMA's on ABC now?
-
No these are the Annual Academy CMA, lol
http://www.cbs.com/specials/acma/
-
ABC has a country music awards show, but I guess CBS still has one. No matter, it means we get to wait for another week for TAR. That's ok.
-
Or not....I'm still thinking it would be odd to have our finale delayed by the Survivor one?
Suppose we were to have a two hour finale instead? Keeping us on 5/3??
-
Or not....I'm still thinking it would be odd to have our finale delayed by the Survivor one?
Suppose we were to have a two hour finale instead? Keeping us on 5/3??
That seems more likely to me, it's weird to have it end after Survivor...
-
No I could see a two hour TAR block, remember last time we had a Spring session we did get a two hour block of episodes (it wasn't the finale) but we did get one. So it is possible.
-
Yeah, CBS could double up on episodes in April, but I can't see it happening during May sweeps.
-
That makes sense...with a two hour ep somewhere along the way we could still finish 5/3....
-
Yeah, CBS could double up on episodes in April, but I can't see it happening during May sweeps.
It would really depend on the performance of its shows during May. I don't know what they have schedule, but certainly the Unit can't perform to even the viewer levels of TAR (let alone its Demo's), and Cold Case might beat us in viewers, but it still loses to us in all 3 primary demo groups.
Of course it all depends on how many specials and shows like survivor that will float to Sunday.
-
Apparently CTV (Canada) will be showing tonight's episode at 7 PM due to the Oscars being aired at 8.

CBS better still show it at 8.

 Damn I hate that Canada gets to view it an hour before us! You just know that someone somewhere is going to spoil the ending before we view it :groan: I don't think I can avoid the internet for an hour
-
Hell I know I can't. After all thats why I am here on Sunday's instead of waiting for the west coast feed.
-
So really that means I get the episode two hours late! Bleh! (:;)
Not that it really matters, I always DVR it and watch on monday.

From an article in Phil's thread:
(Phil will end his race) in New York on May 9 — the day before the "Amazing Race" season finale airs on CBS, the network said Wednesday.

The 10th is confirmed for the finale but I wonder where they place Survivor now ...hmmm
Survivor finale always has run on Mothers Day in the past.
-
I would speculate that Survivor could get pushed back to the 17th, but given the # of players this season on Survivor, there isn't enough episodes that would force Survivor to end a week later. Unless they preempt a new Episode two consecutive weeks during March Madness!
Maybe CBS will have Survivor and TAR end on the same night (thus pushing the local news back an hour).

Thats the problem :umn:

That will never happen. Local affiliates would revolt and leave the network that night. One thing the local affiliates are all militant about is starting their late local newscasts on time. They understand if a news event or a live sporting event runs over, but not pre-taped programming. That has to end on time or there will be hell to pay.
-
I see. Fair enough. I guess the only thing left would be to preempt 60 minutes instead (ha, yeah right!)

FIXED

So, is there 12 legs or 11 legs with one being a mega leg?
-
I count 12 legs, 12 dates, which goes with what CBS told us about 12 legs. Is that what you mean? ???
-
We have two legs.
Dogs and cats have four legs.
Spiders have 8 legs.
Centipedes have about 100 legs.
Never mind. :snicker: :snicker:
The Amazing Race has 12. I think that sounds right.

The following are CBS's May season finales and cliffhangers
Sunday, May 10 THE AMAZING RACE 14-The final three teams race
(8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT) from Beijing to Maui for the final leg and the chance to claim the $1 million prize. Phil Keoghan hosts.

Can I just say how glad I am that we get 12 legs this season. I really, really wasn't pleased with 11. Though of course, I still want 13 (Oh who am I kidding about a season of 22 legs lets kill the racers).
-
I say a full season of 26 legs!

I'd like to see a 2 hour premiere or final episode. :jumpy:
And 52 legs - keep them circling the globe endlessly...
-
The best option to me is a 12 episode, 12 leg season with a two-hour premiere, and one hour finale. Either that, or an 11 episode 12 leg season with a double-length finale that includes the last two legs if the penultimate is a non-elim. :jam:
-
I miss the 2 hour premieres. Maybe CBS can return to that in the next season. And perhaps a clip show somewhere in the middle.
-
Wait. Here, they're saying the finale is on May 4/5. It either means: a) the network thinks it's just 11 episodes or b) they're showing the last two legs in a 2-hour finale.

It's on May 10.
April 26 = F4 NEL
May 3 = F4 Elimination
May 10 = F3 Finale
-
I agree Ashe, kind if stinky that the next leg is the predictable NEL, unless they have some other plan but... I don't think so. Now last episode would have been a nice surprise if we were to have a back to back NEL.

Could they possibly experiment with a Speed Bump on the final leg? That would be fun and more stressing though...

I know. And that's why I posted here. They're showing in Studio 23 commercials that the finale is on May 5. Ask other Filipino people who have seen the commercial on Studio 23. They'll tell you that they've advertised it as May 5. So here's what I think:
April 27 (one day later) - F4 NEL
May 4 - F4 elim
May 5 (supposed rerun date) - finale

Does this mean that the Philippines get a whole week ahead??? I would like it (since I'll be gone during the Finale for someplace) BUT I don't think so...

LOL. I'm not sure. Could be just an error on behalf of the network. But if it does mean what it means, then I'm excited. XD

WRP/CBS would never allow the Finale to be run overseas before running here.
-
^^I know, but then they allowed the network to air the show without commercials (hence leading to my banning), but who knows really.
