God, I miss the snow.....   :(

Ok, where's the link for football delays.  We need a good one for ratings.  The NBC game is going to get a lot of viewers.

PREVIOUSLY ON .. THE AMAZING RACE:

Phil: Ten teams left Ireland, flew to Amsterdam. At the airport, Ron butted heads with Nic/Don. Then, he clashed with his daughter. (Clips of the drama.) Strong arms at the Detour and nimble feet at the Roadblock propelled Lorena/Jason to the front of the pack. Married ministers Kate/Pat finished last, were eliminated.

Nine teams remain. Who will be eliminated next?
Title: Re: EP3 commentary
Post by: mswood on November 18, 2007, 07:29:10 PM
Phil: This is Amsterdam. Outside the city centre, a quaint lakeside village was the 2nd pitstop on a race around the world.

Due to exertion, Ron developed a hernia and required medical attention during the pitstop.
Ron: More intense pain than I ever had.
Christina: We need him to be healthy to win.

Lorena, Jason, CLUE, 4:19 am: Fly to OUAGADOUGOU! :)
Phil: Burkina Faso, a small developing country in West Africa.
They'll take a taxi to the city's train station for their next clue.

CLUE TIMES ...
Nathan/Jenn, time blocked by closed caption on my TV.
Shana/Jenn, 4:31 am
Goths, 5:21 am.
Az/Hend, 5:22 am.
Hendekea: We're from Ethiopia, so I definitely feel comfortable in Africa!!

First team to arrive in Schipol, Lorena/Jason.
They finally figure out that the city is in Burkina Faso.

Mariana/Julia, don't even attempt to say Ouagadougou correctly!
(Did the producers think it'd be cute for everyone to mispronounce it badly?)
You weren't the only one.

Nic/Gramps, 5:47 or close to that time ...
M/J and Don/Nic actually use the cabbie's cell phone to make arrangements. Smart.

Woman: Only 1 flight to Ouagadougou today. Arrive 4:35 pm via Paris.
(Air France ticket counter)

Nathan/Jenn find out the 7:20 am flight is full, which they get on a waiting list.
Apparently Lorena/Jason's agent didn't even bother to tell 'em.

Ronald/Christina, 6:26 pm
Ron conf: I was too harsh. Demoralized Christina. I have to be more uplifting, not criticize.
Title: Re: EP3 commentary

Post by: mswood on November 18, 2007, 07:35:32 PM
Through Mariana/Julia, all tickets for the same flight.

EQUALIZER.

EXCEPT ... for Nathan/Jenn. They get a 40 minute head start to Paris, which could come in handy. Their standby paid off.
The other teams leave later.

Ronald/Christina arrive at the airport exactly 30 minutes before boarding time, and are told "YOU HAVE TO RUN!"
If it were I .. security at Schipol would have sat me down for 24 hours.
Poor Ron running with his hernia.
Christina: You can do this!
In the nick of time, they made it.
Christina: Who's your daddy!!

COMMERCIAL.

Nathan/Jenn in Paris, are told there are no other flights to Ouaga.
The second plane finally leaves. In Paris, when it arrives, it's a mad rush for the gate to avoid the lockout. All 10 teams (except for Nathan/Jenn) are running.
Nathan: Hope they don't make the plane. That'd be great for us!!

Here they come onto the plane.
Lorena/Jason, blondes, Marina/Hooolia, Ron/Christina, Gramps/Nic ... pretty much EQUALIZED.

Motorized bikes line the streets in Ouaga!
Our fine teams take taxis. Those who speak French have a leg up ... it's the only common national language in a country with over 40 tribal languages.
The blondes think they're going to get robbed!
Mariana/Julia, on the other hand, are thrilled to be in Africa.

CLUE, Nathan/Jenn: Take a train to BINGO.
Phil: Teams must travel to the African Savanna, and they'll have to pay attention as the stops are called. The train will let them off in the middle of nowhere to search for their next clue.
Title: Re: EP3 commentary
Post by: mswood on November 18, 2007, 07:42:20 PM
The blondes made the QUINTESSENTIAL AFRICAN MISTAKE: They are negotiating the price of their cab as they are getting out.
Shades of Slim Shady ... The driver follows them into the ticket office.
Oops ... Ticket office is closed and the teams will party in Ouaga.
Gramps is enamored with the blondes.
Scene, a local - Drinking something that can either be coffee, coke, or alcohol to wake up.

Gawd, I love this place already!!

WOW!!! Background Music from the TAR 5 trip to Tanzania!

Shana/Jenn turned off by the "just beyond dirty" train. "Nothing is clean. I could not live this way."
Hendekea: I don't think the blondes are comfortable in Africa.
Az: Africa to me feels like home.
(Me too, Az.)

Love the RXR crossing sign!

Voice: It's the middle of nowhere.
Teams get out, run looking for a cluebox.
Teams offer to help each other; some go it on their own.

CLUE, TK/Rachel. ROADBLOCK.
Who's worked up a thirst?
Phil: Toareg nomad task - milk a camel, fill a bowl up to the designated line. Then, drink it. If you spill the milk, you may not get enough from your camel to fill the bowl. IF YOUR CAMEL RUNS DRY YOU MUST WAIT UNTIL ALL TEAMS ARE FINISHED TO USE ONE OF THEIRS.

What a wimp Lorena is! She shrieks as she touches the camel.
AAAAGH!!

Azaria: This is strange. Grabbing a camel's breast?
Jennifer: COME ON, NATE!
Nate: I spilled some lilke a frikin idiot.
Jenn: Be careful. You're handling nipples!!
TK is workin' it. (Maybe he has practice handling nipples?)
Vixsin is doing fine. So is Gramps.
Lorena is nervous.
Jason: You can do it, baby!
Camel shakes its head side-to-side.
TK has enough milk. He drinks it. Then burps.
TK conf: I had trouble getting it down. Grainy, sweet, warm ...

TK/Rachel, CLUE: Take four camels along a marked path to the next clue.
Phil: After handing off their camels to these nomads, they get the next clue.

Gramps finishes 2nd. Nic/Don take off for the camel walk.
Az has a set-to with a mad camel.
So do others.
Christina's done, Ron/Ch leave in 3rd.
Tk/Rachel may not know where they're going, but they have 2 teams following them.
Ron and Chrstina already arguing, about how to walk camels down a path.
Jenn is on Nathan's ass.
Vixsin is done. Goths leave in 4th.
Az fumbles some milk.
Hend: Oh, god, Azaria.
TK/Rachel return to the milking site, having lost the path.
Christina: I told you not to follow them!
Nathan sweats, but his bowl is full.
Nathan/Jennifer leave in 5th, which is now tied pretty much with 4 other teams for the lead.

Jennifer, Julia, and Lorena are having meltdowns in their own right.
Azaria, at least, has maintained his composure.
Az: Can I switch camels?
Man: Yes.
Julia's camel takes a dump.
Julia: Me, too! I want a new camel!
Lorena's camel hits her.
Azaria is done. Az/Hend leave in 6th.
TK/Rachel, CLUE. DETOUR.
Teach it, or learn it.
Phil: Teach it, choose a local child who doesn't speak English. Teach them the words for 10 common items. When they have recited them correctly, get the clue.
Learn it, learn the primary language ("Moree", don't know how to spell it), recite 10 words correctly for the clue.

Back at the milking station, Jennifer finishes.
Shana conf: She didn't complain about it. I was very impressed.

Az/Hend want to learn.
Goths find a kid that knows where the school is .. which is half the battle.
Words like "skyscraper" "motorcycle"
It's not as easy teaching kids as Nic thought.
Hend is learning her 5, Az is learning his 5.
Hend conf: Doesn't take a brainiac to learn 5 words!

There are problems with learning, and problems with teaching. This is a great challenge!!
I love this!!

First to finish ... Az/Hend.
CLUE: Follow the marked path to the next pitstop
Phil: Last team to check in may be eliminated.

STORM!! A horrible wind hits.
Rain blows like bullets in the faces of the competitors.
Lorena spills again. Melts down again.

Woman: Welcome to Burkina Faso.
Under an umbrella, Phil: Azaria/Hendekea, you are team #1. You have won a trip for 2 to the beaches of Bermuda.

Az conf: The target that was on our back is even bigger now.

Julia calms her camel by petting it.
J: She produces more milk when I rub her like that.
Julia has enough milk. She gags drinking it. Mariana/Julia leave in 8th.
Lorena is boo-hooing on her knees.
Jason: Come on, baby!
Lorena: Huuhhh ... *sob*

COMMERCIAL.

Camels look at Lorena like "What's wrong with that heffa?"
Jason: You gotta get the milk, baby.
Julia: Try the ones that have the baby with them. The white one.
Lorena does, and suddenly gets milk.
Jason: You can do it!
Lorena: I love you!! I got it!

Lorena/Jason leave in last place, headed down the marked path.

Ron/Christina are learning, too. They leave in 2nd.
Ron: Did we leave this way? I'm confused ...

TK/Rachel, leave in 3rd.
Nathan/Jenn taking their test, leave in 4th.
Nic/Gramps' kid takes her test.
Nic/Gramps thank the kid and leave in 5th.
Goths take their test, pass, leave in 6th.
Several teams are standing in the muddy, windy storm, lost. They'll try to find the marked path.
Nathan: THERE IT IS!
All teams run for the pitstop as Phil looks on, bemused.

FOOTRACE THROUGH THE BURKINA MUD!!

Phil: TK/Rachel, Nathan/Jenn, Kynt/Vyxsin, you are teams 2, 3 and 4.
Ronald/Christina, you are #5.
Nic/Donald, you are #6.

Jason is learning words as Mariana/Julia enter the school.
Mariana/Julia try to learn faster.
Jason: I'm ready!
Lorena: I'm trying.
Jason/Lorena take their test.
Mariana/Julia take their test as well.
Both teams stumble on a couple of words ...
Lorena/Jason finish before the sisters.
But it's close.

Scene: Both team members dance in an open area, as a tribal version of Simon/Paula/Randy judge. Looks like the dancers have pogo sticks or summat.
Jason: Like we're on American Idol right now!

Phil: ... and Shana/Jennifer make a controversial decision.
TK: You guys chose to do it.

Actually the sisters deserved to be eliminated for being stupid and helping the team they were fighting last place for.

Yeah I can't blame LOrena & JAson for taking help.   They didn't do anything later in teh race to hurt that other team, besides trying to do their best.

But Marianna & JUlia.  When you are next to last , and you know that.  Never, never, ever help another team.

Now I wouldn't be surprised if Lorena & Jason get booted next week, but I wouldn't say that they deserve it.

I really hoped that it will be Shana&Jen eliminated in the next few episode and not the sisters.
I can't stand this team, they had both a Colin and a Kendra moments in the same leg :pull. they disgust me.

I think Jason&Lorena are next to go.

Episode 1203: SIBLINGS ON TOP WHILE SISTERS RUN DRY

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

SIBLINGS ON TOP WHILE SISTERS RUN DRY
Camel-milking and a torrential thunderstorm caused havoc as Teams traveled to the remote African village of Bingo in Burkina Faso. Siblings Azaria & Hendekea used their book smarts to leap ahead and capture first place, while Lorena and Julia lost their cool with camels, resulting in the elimination of sisters Marianna & Julia.

TAKING AN EARLY LEAD
Departing the Pit Stop in first place at 4:19am, dating couple Lorena & Jason opened their clue to discover they must fly nearly 3,000 miles to Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso in West Africa and find the city’s train station.

At the airport, dating couples Lorena & Jason and Nate & Jen along with friends Shana & Jennifer researched their options on the internet and found that Air France had the only flight going to Ouagadougou through Paris, landing at 4:35pm. While Lorena & Jason and Shana & Jennifer took the 8am departure to Paris, Nate & Jen learned of a fully booked 7:20am departure and asked to be put on the standby list. Nate noted, “We get that, we’re set.”

The other Teams began trickling into the airport and booking the 8am departure to Paris while Nate & Jen awaited their fate for the earlier flight. The couple was all smiles when the agent finally handed them tickets to the 7:20am flight. Nate remarked, “Hopefully we can take advantage of [our lead] because you never know what’s going to come next on this race.”

The remaining eight Teams all boarded the 8am flight to Paris, although Christina and her father Ron, who was suffering from a hernia, barely made the flight. With only moments to spare, Ron tried to erase the pain from his mind as he and his daughter ran through the airport to join the other Teams on the plane. However, after all the Teams settled into their seats, the captain informed them that a mechanical problem would force a delay on the tarmac. The Racers began to sweat as they realized that if they missed their connection in Paris, no other flights would be available until the next day, giving Nate & Jen a huge lead.

TOGETHER AGAIN
As Nate & Jen boarded the connecting flight to Paris, they noticed the other Teams hadn’t arrived and hoped for the worst. After getting comfortable, the dating couple noticed the other eight Teams enter the cabin after running through the terminal. Jen offered a “Glad you made it!” to each of the Teams as they shuffled past her and Nate.

After landing in Ouagadougou, Burkino Faso, Teams took a taxi to the train station, with sisters Marianna & Julia and dating couple Nate & Jen leading the way. Opening the clue at the station, they discovered they would be taking a train into the middle of the African Savannah to Bingo.

At the station, the Teams learned that the ticket window wouldn’t open until 6am the following morning. With a warm evening ahead, everyone kicked back, relaxed, and danced to the rhythm of African drums. 68-year old Don even kicked up his heels with sisters Marianna & Julia, commenting, “They’re feisty. They’re hot: A little bitchy, but not bad. A guy could learn to live with it.”

ALL ABOARD!
As the sun rose, Teams purchased tickets and boarded their train deep into the heart of West Africa. While most enjoyed a peek into a corner of the world they had never seen, one Team wasn’t nearly as thrilled. When Shana noted all the flies on the train, Jennifer replied, “These people bring flies.” Later Shana added, “Being on that train, it’s just beyond dirty.” Jennifer added, “There was just trash piled up. Nothing is clean. I could not live that way.” In contrast, Azaria remarked, “Africa, for me, feels like home. The opportunity to come here was a thrill for me and Hendekea.”

MILKING IT
At the stop for Bingo, Teams ran off the train to the cluebox, where they found a Roadblock. In this Roadblock, one Team member had to milk a camel and extract enough milk to fill a bowl to the designated line. Then they had to drink the milk to receive their next clue. If their camel ran dry, they had to wait for all other Teams to finish milking theirs before using one of their camels.

Since camels are sensitive to loud noises and quick movement, the trick to milking the camels was in how the Racers treated them. Old pro Don, who had some past experience on a farm, began filling his bowl with little difficulty, as did TK, whose soft voice and kind words put his camel at ease. Conversely, Lorena’s fear and panic when the camel kicked her bowl causing a spill only managed to compound the problem. Julia encountered the same difficulty as Lorena, while Christina’s soothing encouragement yielded better results. For TK, the easy part was milking the camel. When it came time for him to drink the warm milk, he hesitated and gagged before swallowing the last drop. Later, TK described it as “a little grainy, a little sweet and warm.” Opening the next clue, TK & Rachel discovered they needed to lead four camels across the Savannah along a marked path to a group of waiting nomads.

CAMEL CARAVAN
As TK & Rachel walked off with their camels, Don chugged his milk and soon he and Nick followed the dating couple, unsure of where to lead their four-pack of friends. Soon father and daughter Ron & Christina joined the other two Teams, just as dating Goths Kynt & Vyxsin started out with their camels. At this point, TK realized they had led everyone in the wrong direction and began to retreat, eventually finding the correct path. Nate & Jen joined the growing number of Teams and camels.

Meanwhile, back at the Roadblock, Lorena, Julia, Jennifer, and Azaria all had difficulties finishing the task as they either spilt more milk or their camels ran dry. With the frustration pouring out of her, Lorena shrieked, “Baby, there’s no more milk!” Instead of losing their cool, Azaria and Jennifer opted to switch camels for milk with Julia and Lorena following their lead. Almost as quickly as he traded camels, Azaria finished the task, drank the milk, and began leading camels through the Savannah with his sister, which left the three women to battle it out together in last place.

BACK TO SCHOOL
Leading the caravan of Teams through the Savannah, newly dating couple TK & Rachel arrived at the cluebox next to the nomads. Opening their clue, the couple encountered a Detour having to choose between Teach It and Learn It. In Teach It, Teams had to choose a local child who doesn’t speak any English and teach them the English words for ten common items. In Learn It, Teams had to learn Möre, the primary African language used in this region. With a local school child as their teacher, Teams needed to learn the Möre words for ten common items.

As TK & Rachel, Nick & Don, and Ron & Christina all went off to teach English to children, dating Goths Kynt & Vyxsin and dating couple Nate & Jen opted to learn words of Möre. The Teams all ran into difficulty, though, when they couldn’t find the school that housed the eager pupils. This confusion allowed siblings Azaria & Hendekea to hitch up their camels and take the lead as they found a local who directed them right to the school.

While Nate & Jen struggled to learn the words of Möre, siblings and scientists Azaria & Hendekea used a systematic approach of each learning five words. Later, Hendekea joked, “It doesn’t take a brainiac to memorize ten words.” After a quick study, the siblings moved to the testing room, where an instructor flashed the cards of ten common items they just learned. The pair rattled off the words of Möre with relative ease as pictures of a train, tree, camel, fish, and others appeared before them. With the last item correctly translated into Möre, the siblings earned the next clue, instructing them to travel on foot to the Pit Stop in the outskirts of Bingo.

KEEP ON MILKING
As Azaria & Hendekea exited the schoolhouse, a big storm began to move across the plain with thunder and high winds that wreaked further havoc on Lorena and Julia who still continued to milk their camels. However, through the grueling elements, Julia managed to massage her camel into providing enough milk to fill the bowl, allowing her to drink it and lead camels away with her sister, Marianna. As the sisters walked away, Lorena’s camel kicked her bowl, setting her back once again and inducing another fit of hysterics as a helpless Jason looked on.
While the situation couldn’t have been worse for Lorena & Jason, Azaria & Hendekea felt better than ever by stepping onto the mat in first place once again. This time Phil rewarded the siblings with a trip for two from Travelocity to the pink sand beaches at the Elbow Beach Resort on the island of Bermuda. On their win, Azaria commented, “It feels good, but now I think we both feel like the target that was on our back is even bigger now.”

Before Marianna & Julia left with their camels, they offered Lorena a last piece of advice: milk a camel that had a baby next to it. This information proved to be the difference, as Lorena switched animals and quickly filled her bowl. After drinking the milk, Lorena burst into tears once again as Jason comforted her with a big hug and a kiss. Walking off with their camels, Lorena asked, “Do you still love me?” Jason replied, “Of course I still love you.”

A FULL MAT FOR PHIL
Although Ron & Christina and TK & Rachel taught star pupils who quickly identified all ten items in English, the two Teams couldn’t find the marked path to the Pit Stop. Their hesitation allowed Nate & Jen, Nick & Don, and Kynt & Vyxsin to all complete the Detour and join in the hunt for Phil. In the pouring rain, Jen spotted him first, sparking a mad dash through the muddy terrain that ended with TK & Rachel nabbing second place just ahead of Nate & Jen with Kynt & Vyxsin taking fourth place. After Ron & Christina and Nick & Don joined the others in fifth and sixth place, Phil joked, “I cannot believe that after all those thousands of miles that all of you guys have turned up at exactly the same time here on the mat.”

After Shana & Jennifer taught kids English to earn seventh place, a final showdown loomed for Marianna & Julia and Lorena & Jason, who ran with their camels fast enough to catch up with the sisters at the clue to the Detour. Both Teams chose to learn words of Möre because as Marianna said, ”Learn it, we depend on ourselves.”

POP QUIZ
School was in session as both Teams sat down next to each other, their nervous eyes pouring over the flashcards of the ten items in a very foreign language. Jason worried, “This is going to kill me.” Soon, Lorena & Jason sat down in the testing chair and awaited their drill. The dating couple started out strong answering one after another, but soon took longer pause in trying to conjure up the correct Möre word.

At this point, the sisters began their test in another room and slowly crept back in the Race by answering correctly as Lorena & Jason missed the word for “boy.” Lorena eventually remembered the Möre word for “boy” to earn their clue, but only moments ahead of Marianna & Julia.

After a tense footrace to the Pit Stop, dating couple Lorena & Jason excitedly stepped onto the mat in eighth place where Lorena once again broke down crying. On his partner, Jason remarked, “The reason she is so emotional is because she’s passionate. She’s passionate about life. She’s passionate about doing well…and that’s why we’re not eliminated right now.”

When they stepped on the mat, the disappointed Marianna & Julia received the bad news from Phil that they had been eliminated from the Race. On the experience, Julia remarked, “I couldn’t imagine running this Race with anyone but Marianna because I couldn’t have had a better Teammate.”

But don't worry, as long as Nathan & Jen are in the race, that death stare will reappear as a running joke.
