Amazing Race - Live Coverage at 8 p.m. Eastern - 9.8
Posted By Matthew Romanada on 04.19.2006

While the Wong is away the Romo will play.
Hello Race fans. Kevin Wong is away this week and I have voluntered to take over for the Live Coverage this week. Hopefully I can keep up to the high standard Kevin has set. Sadly I do not have a cool leaderboard like Kevin has every week.

Check back at 8 p.m. Eastern.

Here things go…

Phil gives a rundown of what happened in the previous episode, including how BJ and Tyler managed to sneak in at fifth because Lake and Michelle messed up. Five teams remain…who will be eliminated next?

Hopefully not the Hippies.

Starting pit stop
Rio, Greece

oops  :lol3:

Phil: The Pelaponneaus, the 7th pitstop in a race around the world. Will E/J's string of 1st places continue? Can BJ/Tyler climb out of last?

E/J, 11:54 pm, CLUE: Fly To Muscat, Oman.
Phil: Fly 2300 miles to Muscat, Oman, dating back 5,000 years, oil rich nation bordering Saudi. Find this giant incense burner for the next CLUE.

Sign-up: For the 9:00 bus, E/J.
MoJo take off with the CLUE.

Ray/Yo, 4:41 am, joking "is this the bridge?!"
Yo conf: We joke pretty hard, stuff other people wouldn't say.
Ray: Yeah you think you know where the bridge is. Let's find the damn bridge.
Yo: Stop cursing at me. YOU NEED TO STOP.
Ray: Okay.
Yo: I'm serious. What? You just shot me a bird!?
Ray: I thought we wuz done talking.
Yo: It's pretty bad.
Ray: Just remember I'm a grown man.

Mojo sign for 9:00 bus.
Ray/Yo sign for 9:00 bus.

Fran/Barry, 6:20 am.
Fran pronounces it Muscat, OMEN.
They also get the 9 am bus.

BJ/T, 8:51 am, may not have time to make the 9 am bus.
Let's see ... they run across the bridge.
They run across the street.

Bus 1, loading up with four teams in the lead.
Here come the hippies, as the bus LEAVES.
All four teams wave at them, in the rain.

BJ/T: Wait for us!
They get the 10 am bus.

Athens Int'l Airport, teams seek quickest flight to Oman.
WOman: Leaves 10:50.
Barry: We'll take it.
To Fran: We'll not share this information.
Eric/Jeremy and the other 2 teams seek the same flight.
Fran/Barry get tix.
Woman, to other teams: Flight leaves 10:50.
All four teams have that flight.
Bj/Tyler's bus approaches the airport.
BJ/Tyler arrive as tickets are being issued to the other teams (except F/B who have theirs already).
Flight FULL.
BJ/Tyler get mad at teams that don't want to share info, and go to another airline.

Four teams on the GULF AIR 10:50 flight.

Woman, to BJ/Tyler: There's a Qatar Air 23:45 arrival.

Phil: All teams making their way to Muscat Oman.

NIGHT, MUSCAT.
Midnight at the Oasis?
Teams get cars to drive.
E/J take the lead.

Observations, driving:
Monica: Americans think THEY'RE rich?
Ray: I can't figure out these signs. They're all squiggly.
BJ/Tyler arrive finally and find a dude who'll take them to the right place. Off they drive.

E/J arrive at the park, see the incense burner.
OPEN 6:00 AM.
EQUALIZER!!

MoJo, Ray/Yo, Fran/Barry, BJ/Tyler, all arrive and see the 6 am sign.

Yolanda: So you think it was cool cussing me out? I was teasing you and you flipped the script. Just don't talk to me for the rest of the time.
Ray stomps away from the car in his muscle shirt.
Ray conf: We haven't been together much. During this race we're getting to see alot of sides of each other.
Yo conf: We have to work on this, get through it.

Daybreak.
Teams run through the gate.
Fran/Barry climb slowly up a hill.
CLUES: Drive yourselves to the town of Sur, and find the ferry crossing known as (Al Bata?) for the next CLUE.

Teams take off on foot, head back to their cars, drive off.
The drive could take a couple of hours.
Back through Muscat, E/J in the lead.
Teams follow E/J.
Yo, back seat, looking at map: This is where we waste a lot of time.
Ray: Just give me directions.
Monica to man: Do you know how to get to Sur?
Man gives them directions.
The guys see the directions and pass MoJo.
They're taking a major highway.
E/J stop a bus along the highway for directions as Fran/Barry pass.

Ray/Yo lost.
Yo: Stop. Ask.
Man: I'm sorry. Dunno.
Yo: We're in trouble.

MoJo are on a dirt road.
Joe: Is that right?
Mo: I have no idea!!

A man leads them to drive across the water in the car!!
Joe: Thank you!
Monica: I want to pick him up and take him home in my pocket!
Fran/Barry take the crossing.
Eric/Jeremy next.
Ray/Yo finally get directions, but they're 'way behind.
BJ/T cross the river.
Four teams (all except Ray/yo) see a bad looking spot in the road.
Will they get stuck if they drive through?
Monica: Let's GO!
E/J: Is this the right way? We're gonna flood it!
Fran: Omigod!
BJ: Is this the most awesome surprise you've ever had!?
Fran: You did a beautiful job! No way I could have done this.
E/J cut in front of MoJo.
Joe: That's the fratboy way.
BJ: There will come a time when we're the front boys!
Finally Ray/Yo find the ferry crossing and the man directs them across.
Ray: I see why they made 4WD!

Scene of Sur.
Locals bang on drums, dancing.

Back on the main road, teams seek directions.
Location is called Baith Al Battha
CLUE, lead four teams: DETOUR.
Camel or Watchtower?
C: Use block and tackle to load a camel into a pickup truck, then travel it one mile to a bedouin camp for the next clue.
W: Search among 3 watchtowers for a message box. Not all towers have one. Find one, then drive it to a silver shop and give it to Mubarak for the next clue.

Teams take a boat to the Watchtower.
Nobody seems to be doing the camel.
Oops .. E/J will do the camel lift.
Fran/Barry follow blindly as teams run uphill.
MoJo search the tower for a red message box.
Mo: See it?
Joe: No.
Fran finds a message box!!
BJ/Tyler find a message box.
They head back toward the boats as MoJo search and E/J lift a camel into their truck.
They have the camel.
They drive it into town.
BJ/T and F/B arrive at the town and search for the sliversmith.

Giving up, MoJo decide to do camel, instead.
Fran/Barry first to the silversmith.
There he is! CLUE: Find the village of Al Hawiyah.
Phil: Once there, make their way through date palms to this spot (middle of nowhere!) for the next clue.
BJ/T, CLUE in 2nd.
MoJo have the camel into the pickup bed.

Eric/Jeremy "have been driving forever. I don't see anything at all."

Monica is having fun!
Joe can't figure where she wants him to drive, takes his own road.
Monica: Here comes your home, camel!
They drop it off in 3rd.
Joe: We shouldn't have ran up that damn watchtower.
Monica: Just our damn luck!

Eric/Jeremy still figured out where they're supposed to be driving.
"Right? Left? We're idiots."

Eric/Jeremy still nowhere.
Accidentally they find the right place.
CLUE, in 4th.
Ray/Yo finally get their ROADBLOCK clue.
"Last clue."
No ****, Whitty!
They'll do camel.
They make quick work of him.
They drop him off in 5th.
Yo: I think we're in last place.
Ray: I've never thought of myself in last place. Can't start now.

In Al Hawiyah ...
CLUE, F/B, BJ/T: Who's willing to work for food?
Phil: One person dig through 117 sand mounds until they find this piece of lamb in a palm leaf (a "shua") which will be their dinner.
CLUE: Use caution, as you are digging into a buried oven.
Barry digs.
Fran: Boy, is it hot!
Joe: Fran/Barry are here? Whatthehell!?
Monica: Why does it say you're digging into a buried oven?
Joe: Because it's HOT!
Fran: Boy, is it hot!
BJ digging ...
Joe: It's gotta be hot.
Monica: You'll get it for making me do this.
Joe: You don't have to put about it.
Camel: MOOOOOOOOOUUUUUHHHHHHHH!
Eric will dig.
(Can anybody actually tell Eric/Jeremy apart?)
Camel: MUUUUHHHHGGGGGHHHH!
To the camel, Joe: I don't need your lip right now.
Barry first to find a buried shua.
It's like, in this metal thingy just ... cooking!
Monica second to find a shua.
Ray/Yo still arguing in the car.
Yo: I'm the girl you cussed out the other day, remember?
Fran: How's it going?
B: It's here. Just can't get it out. Sheesh. God amighty!
Monica has hers OUT!
Fran: Monica got hers right away, Barry!
Joe: Good job, babe!
Jeremy: Eric, she got her clue!
CLUE, MoJo: Drive to the next pitstop.
Jabreen Castle, this ornate fortress. Last team to check in may be eliminated.

Barry finally digs his shua out.
B: Oh, my back!
Tyler: Don't stop, BJ. Keep digging!
BJ: That's what I'm doing.
Tyler: You're doing great.
Jeremy: Come on, Eric.
E: I'm freaking out, dude.
Finally Eric finds one.
Jeremy: If you hurry, we can still come in 2nd.
Off they drive.
Ray: I see shovels.
Reading CLUE, Ray: Who's willing to work for food?
Yo: Me.
Tyler explains that it's hot as hell and BJ is miserable.
BJ: You get to bungee jump and swing and I dig.
Ray: Just take your time. Get a pattern going.
Yo: Mama got a pattern.
Ray: Come on, Yolanda. Dig deeper.
Yo: I'm doing the best I can. I've GOT ONE!
Ray/Yo, CLUE: Drive to the next pitstop.
Ray: We still in it!

BJ, suffering.
Tyler, conf: It's so hard to watch him, laying on the ground, digging, dead.
Falling in the hot sand, BJ: They've all been dug.
Tyler, conf: Should I go there and help him? He's still got so many mounds. We could be here forever.

COMMERCIAL.

Tyler: We've been here an hour and 15 minutes now. It's over 90 degrees. He's covered with dust.
BJ: Thought I found it; just more sand.
Tyler: Check every one of those piles.
BJ: Got it!
Tyler: Yeah! That's dinnertime! We're not far behind!
Tyler: Shukran!
They get the clue and drive off.

Mo: I just saw a sign. Barry and Fran will be right behind us.
Fran: Just follow the sign to Mizwah.
Eric: We'll take a shortcut and try to find it fast.
Ray disputes Yo's directions.
Ray: You sure?
Yo: I'm looking at the map. You acting like a child.
Ray: Like a child finding the way home.
Barry: I dunno if we'll beat MoJo.
Fran: I'll run as fast as my legs will take me.
Barry: Nice if the old couple can win once.
Joe: I don't think this is it. I don't see any signs.
Man gives Joe directions.
Monica bitches that they may not come in first.

Man: Welcome to (something I didn't understand)
Phil: Fran/Barry, YOU are team #1.
Barry: Omigod!
Phil: Good news, you have won a trip to Rome. How good does it feel to be #1 now?
Fran: So good! We never dreamed we'd be #1!

Night falls.
Phil: Joseph/Monica, you're team #2.

Eric/Jeremy having trouble finding it in the dark.

Phil: Ray/Yolanda, you're team #3.
Yo: That's good! A sigh of relief!
Phil: You had a bad day with each other?
Yo conf: Seems the fun just went down the drain.
Ray conf: We have to work on keeping our position in the race.

Driving in the dark, no lights anywhere ...

Eric: Jeremy, just go back to the main road. We're lost.
BJ: Any of the teams could have gotten lost. You never know.

Phil: Eric/Jeremy, you're team #4.
Both: Can't believe that!
Phil: Humbling?
E/J: Maybe we need to rethink some things.

Man: Welcome to (I still don't understand it) ...
BJ/Tyler: Shukran!
Phil: BJ/Tyler, you're the last team to arrive. I'm pleased to tell you, however, this is a non-elimination leg and you're still in the race. I need all your money. You won't receive any at the next leg of the race. Everything except the clothes on your back and your passports.
Conf: The other teams see us as weak now. Our goofy attitudes got us this far. The other teams won't see us coming.

NEXT TIME ON .. THE AMAZING RACE:

Phil voice: Teams travel to the western coast of Australia where they navigate tunnels beneath a 19th century prison ...

Phil voice: ... and Joseph/Monica clash over directions.
On bikes ...
Mo: Pay attention!
Joe: I am paying attention! Don't bitch at me!

thanks to SLD  :hearts:
